Currency translation differences

Dear SDNers,
I have an issue concerning the currency translation differences.
In a step, I have, in the "Specific Translation" Tab selected the following characteristics :
1) 2 Items : A (BDC 1) and B (BDC 2)
2) MT cat : M1 and M2, because A and B have different BDC (BDC 1 allows M1 and BDC 2 allows M2)
3) Movement type : 141 (belongs to M1 and M2)
The Currency translation Diff has to be stored in the Movement type 142. My problem is that I should theorically put in the "Differences tab" :
MT cat : M1 and M2
Movement type : 142
BUT : I can only put one single MT Cat ! No complex selection allowed...
Do you have any hint to avoid that ? Because MT cat and Mtype are compounded => If I only put M1 and 142, the system can not be able to post for the item B....
Do I have to create 2 steps?
Thanks for your help
Regards
Thibaud

Hi,
Thanks for reply,
I had time to do some tests, and I am sorry, you are wrong :
the system displays a warning and adjust automatically according to what is written in the BDC of the account.
Anyway, thanks for your help

  • Currency translation differences with an effect on earnings

    Product Version: SAP R/3 46.C
    Componente: EC-CS-CSF-E Currency Translation
In currency translation program of ECCS (tx CX40) the prior year portion of translation differences that affects earnings is posted in current period in the earnings retain item (ER) which according to SAP documentation "Currency translation differences with subsequent consolidations" is correct, however when we run the currency translation on subsequents periods this amount is posted again generating a multiplying of differences on each period.
In accordance with section u201CBu201D of SAP note 553586, the carryforward item (retain earnings) was assigned to translation key 5, to avoid multiplications of this difference in every execution of currency translation for current period. This correction was applied successfully, however the problem is now generated when we run the currency translation in every subsequent period.
SAP notes 582815 and 553586 was applied succesfully.
We also verified SAP note 1045402 changing the translation key 5 to 1, for balance carryforward item (retained earnings) this avoids the difference effect on subsequents periods, but  generates a translation differential effect undesired on this item, since this is a historical item that not must be altered by currency translation.
Additionally we read SAP note 509509 and we think that this issue corresponds whit symptom 2 of that note.
    Step by Step:
    Transaction: CX40
Setting of Translation SET in translation method:
    1.- MARS-GAP-Monetary:
    1.1.- Items of balance sheet
    1.2.- Translation Key 1
1.3.-  Item for differences: income statement item with an effect on earnings
    2.- MARS-GAP-NonMonetary
    2.1.- Items of balance sheet
    2.2.- Translation Key 6
2.3.-  Item for differences: income statement item with an effect on earnings
    3.-MARS-MOR-Monetary
    3.1.- Items of P&L
    3.2.- Translation Key 5
3.3.-  Item for differences: income statement item without an effect on earnings

    4.1.- Items of P&L
    4.2.- Translation Key 6
4.3.-  Item for differences: income statement item without an effect on earnings
    5.- MARS-HIST
    5.1.- Items of balance sheet
    5.2.- Translation Key 6
5.3.-  Item for differences: Balance sheet item without an effect on earnings
    6.- ANI-BS-FX
6.1.- Items of differences SET MARS-HIST and Carryforward Item for special items in transaction CXD3, the same item for the balance carryforward (retained earnings)
    6.2.- Translation Key 5
6.3.-  Item for differences: Balance sheet item without an effect on earnings (the same item for the SET MARS-HIST)
    7.- ANI-BS
7.1.- The special balance sheet item in Transaction CXD3
    7.2.- Translation Key 5
7.3.-  Item for differences, the same item
    8.- ANI-IS
8.1.- The special income statement item in Transaction CXD3
    8.2.- Translation Key 5
8.3.-  Item for differences, The same item
    Note:
1 .- According to the point A of the note  553586 was included the FS Item 484051011(difference item for SET MARS-HIST)  in the conversion SET ANI-BS-FX
2 .- According to Section B of the note 553586 was included the account for carried forward  481000001 the special accounts set up in the transaction CXD3 in the conversion SET ANI-BS-FX
3 .- According to Section C of  note 553586 are included special accounts set up in the transaction CXD3 390000 and 251200, in the conversion SET ANI-IS and ANI-BS respectively.
When run the currency translation in the new year 1-2011, the prior year portion of translation differences that affects earnings is posted in current period a credit to earnings retain and debit to account difference in SET for this account. This amount is same on special balance sheet item 251200, in tx CXD3, also found on the statistical FS item.
Then in subsequent periods, 2 - 2011 it posting another credit to earnings retain and debit to account difference in SET for this account, generating a multiplying of differences on each period, even though the difference for this account (ER) in the log of the translation currency is equal to the difference posted to the previous period, show this in transaction CX34 for items of translation (1) for this account until 1-2011.

    Hi,
just a information how I did a workaround about this:
The opening (movement type 100) of the balance sheet item "differences of currency translation" is customized with "don't change...".
Every increase  to "differences  of currency translation" works with e.g. movement type 120 and will be carried forward to 100.
Maybe this is a scenario you can use...

  • SEM-BCS  Duplicate posting of currency translations

    Dear BCS Gurus:
During the Testing Run of the Total Records, the following error is noticed:
The system automatically posts the currency differences to the clearing accounts defined under Items> Selected Items> Clearing B/S and I/S accounts.
The posting also occurs in the currency transalation account specified in the translation difference tab in the currency translation --> Method. It is, thus, posted twice. The client does not want the clearing posting which is created by the system. Is there a way to solve this problem? If so, let me know.
    I appreciate your time.
    Thanks.

  • Incorrect cuurency translation difference - Manual journal

    Hi,
Our business users posted number of manual journals and subsequent reversals in local currency and group currency. They did not follow the correct procedure of copying LC to GC and running currency translations. Many steps were performed out of turn.
On our investigation we found that system has posted a currency translation difference in group currency of 200k in translation difference account. The balance in local currency is zero.
As per our configuration we use current rate for reference translation and average rate for specific translation and key figure as period value in LC. There are no historic posting in the cons pc. This is the first period of posting.
We wish to reverse out the translation difference, however, system wan't allow us to manually journal the difference  ?. Is there a way to clear out the difference?.

    Hi,
In the copy method you must add "rounding method" in the method translation.
Do you sure that your method for currency tarnslation is correct, this means: rounding method is added into method currency transflation?
And documents  type with posting level 01-10 must use only local currency (obligatory) and transaction currency (optimal).
When documents type have use group currnecy, these documents are not currency translation by the system, during make task copy document.

    Hi,
It could be that you need a derived depr. area activated as
"Derived depreciation area as real area"
    Documentation:
Treat Derived Depreciation Area As Real Area
Specifies that a depreciation area that was originally defined as a
derived depreciation area is treated as a real depreciation area in
the target company code. This means that not only depreciation
differences can be posted to special depreciation reserve accounts,
but also real differences in acquisition and production costs can be
      posted to balance sheet accounts.
    Use
If you set this indicator, then the system posts the real difference
between two depreciation areas, if the original depreciation area was
defined as the difference between two other areas (for example,
special depreciation area 03 defined as the difference between areas
01 and 02). If the source depreciation area is not a derived
depreciation area, then the system removes the indicator during the
      input check.
Please take into account that after this change on customizing,
the accounts in the account determination for this depreciation
area have to be maintained for APC accounts also.
In another scenario the reason for error AAPO518 was the use of a
non standard schema. May you check if you are using a modificatin to the
schema: for example you can check this in transaction SM43 ->
ie SM34 -> VC_T093H01. Check the transaction and to which schema
    it is linked.

  • Currency Translation

    Hi,
We have different needs for the currency translation depending on the financial statement items an movement type.
So, we have defined 2 methods (and 2 tasks) all different.
They are different also in the exchange rate type for the reference translation.
    That is, for example:
    First method (task):
Exchange rate type for the reference translation (1003 - Historical exchange rate)
    Step:
       Investment items
and type of movement (100 u2013 beginning balance)
    Specific translation:
    u2022     Currency translation key: periodic
u2022     Exchange rate type: EURX (EMU regulation, variable exchange rates)
    Item (Translation Difference):
    Item (58200)
        Subitem (58201)
    Second method (task)
Exchange rate type for the reference translation (1002 - Average exchange rate)
    Step:
        Income statement items
    Specific translation:
    u2022     Currency translation key: periodic
u2022     Exchange rate type: EURX (EMU regulation, variable exchange rates)
    Item (Translation Difference):
        Item (58200)
        Subitem (58202)
    PROBLEM:
When we run the methods at consolidation monitor, the second task affects the result of the first task.
The result from the first task is correct.
When we run the second task, which is for income statement items (not this as the first one u2013 investments), System is creating a new step (a cumulative one), which is changing the Exchange rate type for the reference translation of this item; meaning is changing the previous correct values.
    Why is this happening?

    Thanks for your answer.
So, what you're saying is that I cannot have several Exchange rate type for the reference translation according to financial statement items/movement types?
I always have to have the same Exchange rate type for the reference translation for all the items/movement types?
    Thanks for your help.
    Best regards.

  • Copying of the currency translation methods

    Hello All,
is there a way to copy the currency translation methods inclusive all steps in the workbench?
The problem is that we want to use the same currency translation methods for the currency simulation as for the normal currency translation. The only difference should be the determination of the exchange rate ("Exchange rate type" for the currency simulation vs. "Exchange rate indicator" for the normal currency translation). We have over 40 method steps in each CT method and creating of the new CT methods with the same structure as in existing CT methods would be a pretty extensive job ;(
Could you suggest a way we can solve this problem? (referencing of the existing CT methods with the substitution of the determination of the exchange rate would be an ideal solution, but i am afraid it is not possible ...).
    Many thanks in advance,
    Kirill

    Hello Mani,
i would create the new CT task for the currency simulation and define the copied CT methods in it's definition. Therefore i will have 2 different CT tasks , one for the currency translation, the another for the currency simulation.
I would willingly avoid copying of the CT methods, by reason that i have to change both in the future in order to have the same functionality for the currency translation and currency simulation, but i feel it is not possible to avoid this
    Thank you,
    Kirill

  • Currency Translation not producing any results

    Hello Everyone,
I have ran into a very strange problem with the out of the box currency conversion.  I have a finance app and am using the Fxtrans script logic to execute my currency translation.  The problem I am having is when I run the FX Restatement package I not getting any results.  LC has the correct amount that was input but my other reporting currencies show zero.  My Entity dimension (which is named Company) has the correct currencies in the currency column for each company, and the InputCurrency dimension has all of my currencies listed.  Everything else is the same as the AppShell app set.  One last note is I do have some additional dimensions in the finance application but I don't think that would cause any issue.
My Rate cube is built the exactly the same as the rate cube in appshell app set. The only difference is my category dimension is named scenario.
I have updated all the system constants files and the script logic to reflect the dimension name changes.  Everything works as expected in the Appshell application, but I just can't seem to figure out why it won't work in my appset.
I am sure I have left out some details that are needed so please just ask and I will provide whatever I can.  I really appreciate any help anyone can provide.
    Thanks in advance!
    Nick

So I figured out the issue.  For some reason the data that was in the WriteBack table for any currency other than LC was not showing up in the report.  Once I optimized the application the currency conversion showed up as expected.
Has anyone had this problem before.  Any known solution?
    Thanks,
    Nick

  • Currency Translation question

When the currency translation is executed..it overwrite the reporting currency by new amount.
Q1>>How to find out additive impact by each each account for currency translation changes.?
For example I have 1000 accounts, which for which currency translation is executed. Can I know the currency translation changes per each account seperately for reporting purpose?
Client wants to do the complete audit trail of amount posted by currency translation. is it possible..
How it is possible. Is it possible thru movement type to track the currency translation by each account?
Q2>>DATASRC dimension has a property IS_CONSOLIDATED? has some one used it before? What it is used for?
Please explain a bit..because the documentation from SAP is very brief..
    Apprecaite inputs...

    Hi Doodwala,
I'm not sure I'm following your question 1. Do you mean that you want to track the difference between the new and old reporting currency amount when the LC amount changes? Or do you want to track the change in the translated amount if the rate changes (or more likely using a different rate)?
If your audit requirement is to track every record change then it is going to be very arduous to do this in a custom way. I'd recommend looking into the delivered audit trail functionality to see if that meets your requriements. There is a bit of information about this functionality here: [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_bpc70sp02/helpdata/en/e1/8999faf82c4a61acd65683a8cedafe/frameset.htm]

We have typical issue in currency revaluation in BCS. While running the currency translation in UCMON for some of entities we found abnormal figures in the gain/loss. • FI-SL Currency Translation issue , Tcode - GWUL

    HI
When I use the T-Code GWUL to run the currency translation something is happening in November with some of  the equity accounts.   I will use our Japan company code as an example.  In period 1 through 5 of FY14 when I run the translation the Common stock account stays static (and it should as it is associated with a historic rate).  It is associated with ER IND 5 which has an exchange rate for 100 JPY = .92518 to 1 USD.
The Yen value for this account is 4,039,919 which translates to $37,376.52.   However, when I ran the report for Period 6 ( and there was no change/activity in the Common stock account) it is reflecting a translation difference of $37,376.42 yet it is still showing the rate in the system as .92518.  We are also seeing something similar happen in other equity accounts.
    Period 5
    Period 6

    HI
    Thanks for reply
I mean on translation difference column .
GWUL is ran for updating special purpose ledger
We need to specify ledger to be translated before executiong tcode GWUL
So GWUL will translate ledger on basis of ex rate type configured for its special purpose ledger
In above screen shot CH is ledger and Ex rate indicator are ex rate types which  are different for different set of GL accounts defined .

  • ECCS - Currency Translation CX40: Rounding entry 060: Cannot process item

    Hi Gurus,
we found an error when executing CX40 (currency translation) in ECCS module.
    Message here:
Rounding entry 060: Cannot process item set Z1CSZ1-6000
    Message no. G0454
    Diagnosis
The prerequisite for processing rounding entry 060 (item set 1: Z1CSZ1-6000) has not been met.
A difference of 11,085,205.37 in local currency was found.
    Consider the following cases:
    1. The rounding rule is defined for an item set.
In this case, the sum of the local currency values for the items in this set must equal zero.
    2. The rounding rule is defined for an item set that is restricted to certain subitems and a second item set.
In this case, the sum of the local currency values for the items of the first item set, taking the restriction into account, and the items of the second item set must equal zero.
    3. The rounding rule is defined for an item set (without restrictions to certain subitems) and for a second item set.
In this case, the sum of the local currency values from the first item set must coincide with the sum of the local currency values from the second item set.
The verification of rounding rules is executed per posting level and document type with the following exceptions:
Posting levels Space, 00, 01 and 08 are grouped together. Any differences which might arise in local currency appear as differences in posting level 00.
    System Response
    Rounding cannot take place.
    Currency translation produces errors.
    Procedure
Check the rounding entry and the associated totals records.
I have checked the settings in CXD1. it seems fine.
    In CXD1,
    CSZ1-5000     Income Statement
    CSZ1-1000     Balance Sheet
    CSZ1-6000     Balance Sheet & Income Statement  -
      for rounding entry
    and set CSZ1-6000 contains CSZ1-5000 and CSZ1-1000.
we have no idea how to proceed.
Much appreciated if you could kindly help me with this.
    Many thanks!

In my experience this usually occurs after the data collection is re-executed and the contra-RE task is not. Therefore, my first suggestion is to re-execute the contra-RE task and the try translation again.

  • Reference column in currency translation

    Hi experts,
Anybody knows, What is the reference column on the currency translation for ?
    Regards

The translation occurs first at the reference rate and subsequently at the specific rate. When there are differences between the two the totals records indicate this difference with the translation indicator value, which is typically 1, but may be 2 or 3 in the case of temporal methods.

  • Error in EC-CS - Currency Translation is Irrelevant

Has anyone seen this message?  I have checked and as far as I can see, currency is set correctly.  Please advise....
Task CrcyTrans is irrelevant or is being copied
    Message no. G0256
    Diagnosis
Task CrcyTrans is either irrelevant or is being copied from another version for the current org unit. Therefore, the task cannot be executed in the present version.
There is only one exception for source tasks with the type "Data Collection" which bear the task status "Being copied" (in the target version):
If the local currency of the respective consolidation unit differs from the ledger currency, the system permits supplementary changes to the additional financial data in the target version. In this case, you can also start the source task with the type "Data Collection" in update mode for the respective consolidation unit in the target version. Then the system permits subsequent entry of additional financial data.
Keep in mind that the status is not updated.

    Hello -
The consolidation ledger currency (group currency, I assume) is USD.  The Consol Unit in question is EUR.
I checked the currency translation settings in the consol unit.  There are four other units in the group, all with various currencies, which are working fine.  We have another unit in another group that is EUR and it is working fine.  We just added this one.  I have compared it to the unit in EUR that works but can't find any differences.
