Current address in address bar clears for no reason

My address bar keeps clearing itself and I don't know why. I'll open up a page and once on that page the address at the top will just clear. I'm not sure exactly how to explain it clearly. But this prevents me from copying a url from the address bar if I want to send someone a link and when I use the arrow keys on my keyboard to scroll it ends up scrolling through my address bar history (even after I click on the page itself to make sure it'll scroll through the page). It's as if the second I open a page the address bar is automatically selected and cleared and I don't know why/how this would happen. Just to clarify, I can go on different pages, just once I am on them the url at the top disappears.

This issue is most likely caused by an add-on or plugin.<br>

Sometimes when I open a link in a new tab and then switch to the tab, the address bar clears and I'll have to re open the tab and hope that doesn't happen again. Sometimes this happens again and again. Most of the times if I just open the link in a new tab and don't switch to it, this won't happen. But as I switch too the tab, the text would disappear and the link wouldn't open.

  • Address Bar searches for Applications instead of websites?

When I type in "Google" or any other website in the address bar without the extensions (ie. .com, .edu, etc), I get an error that says: File not found! Firefox can't find the file at jar:file:///Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/omni.jar!/chrome/en-US/locale/browser-region/region.propertiesgoogle.
On my sister's computer, when I type in "Google" in the address bar (without the '.com') it takes me to the google search for 'Google'...
    How can I change this?

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click History, clear History.
I uninstalled Google Chrome and tried Safari, with Chrome the search function is built in and never turns off. Is this a design flaw in Safari too?
    All browsers support History browsing.

  • My address bar clears everytime i load a page

Basically any page i load like google for example the address bar will show for a second then clear itself and say 'Search or enter address' its really annoying when you're trying to type and it switches from the google search bar to the address bar. Not really sure if its my fault messing around with the options or anything...

  • I poofed away my address bar and can't get it back

I was trying to get a URL for an image this morning, but for some reason couldn't drag the picture up to my address bar. Everything just kept highlighting instead. This was frustrating, so I tried "right" clicking and saving the image address, which I then tried to paste into my address bar. For some reason, it wouldn't let me paste anything. I tried doing it from the "Edit" tab, and I tried doing it through "apple+v"
None of it worked. I tried this at least three times. Somehow, the third or fouth time I clicked on the address bar and hit "apple+v" my address bar literally poofed away. Like I was taking something out of my dock. The back, forward, reload, and stop buttons are all still visible and functioning, it's just the specific "Address" and "Search" bars that I'm missing.
I didn't know this was possible! I tried to get it back through the "View" tab: I tried going through "Customize Address Bar" and "Hide/Show Address Bar" and I restarted everything at least five times. Apparently, my roommate tried the same thing and managed to poof his address bar away too (who knew!) but was able to get it back through the "Customize Address Bar" tab. For some reason, it's not letting me drag anything anywhere. (Or cut and paste anything! I tried copying something from Safari and pasting it into another application, and that didn't work either.)
Does anyone have any suggestions? I was going to google it, but I can't figure out how to get there :/

  • Displaying name of specific file name in browser address bar

    Hi,
I am using RoboHelp8 and generating my file using Single Source Layouts - WebHelp (Primary Layout).
When selecting a specific page via the Contents toolbar, I would like to have the address of that specific file displayed in the address bar but for some reason, the page displayed is always only my default topic page.
I'd appreciate your help with this.
    Thanks,
    DGR2

    Hi there
Are all you wanting is just the file name? Or do you also want the path leading to it?
Take a look at the link below and scroll to the bottom of the page. Note that I've accomplished this by inserting a form field and populating it using JavaScript. So if this is what you want or will work, you could then pick apart my page (or have me post the code).

  • The Url History in the address bar is not working anymore. Reinstalling/Updating does not fix this. How to I get this working again?

I'm talking about the Address Bar.
For example: You type in Google and it shows www.google.com etc. Because this is in your history.
But this has stopped working since I emptied my cookies. But not my history. I also checked if my history is still there. Which it is.
And I cant find out why at all.
I'm sorry if I really can't give much info. But this is what I concluded. Seeing English ain't my native language. My google searches for this question seem to be either in the wrong direction or this is something that never happened before.

Tools>Options>Privacy - Click the drop down menu under Location Bar and set when using the location bar, suggest to - History and Bookmarks.

  • I want name on address bar goes to home page, not search engine

Just today I hooked up a new modem/router that I purchased at a WIndstream store. I have been browsing the internet for years with Firefox. I have changed the keyword.url setting in my Firefox configuration (see https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/833252#answer-197476) so that the new version would act like the old version and go directly to the webpage when the name was typed in the address bar. For example: when I type in "windstream" (no ".net" or".com") I would go directly to windstream' home page.
However, when I hooked up my new modem/router I my browser is hijacked and goes to a Windstream search page. I have tried everything from re-installing Firefox, re-changing the "keyword.url" setting, I even tried the Firefox ad-on here (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/browse-by-name/).
All to no avail......there is something that has changed by adding Windstream's hardware and connecting to their network that will not allow me to use this function of Firefox.
Nothing else changed, but a new piece of hardware.....
    Changed keyword.url to : http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=
Re-installed Firefox after cleaning all history and cookies.
Tried the add-on "Browse by name"
Wasted my time calling Windstream tech support.
    Changed to openDNS
Tried to disable the feature through Windstream's web page, but then it just happens with the new search engine.

Opt-out of Windstream's search service: Type in something to get their sneaky web search page to come up, then click the tiny link at the bottom right "about this page". That sends you to a page where you can opt-out of their service.
To opt-out from their "valuable" sneaky service, you have to choose to opt-in to another search service.
You have to do this with each browser. And it still sends you to your search engine's results page, not to your URL the way you might want it to.
I would rather the default be to allow me to opt-in if I choose to, not have to jump through hoops to find out how to opt-out. It's taken me weeks to discover this. Annoying!

  • Can't load any websites. I do not get any "error messages", the "enter" button has no effect in the address bar. Works fine in the FF search box and in IE.

Entering a URL in the address bar and hitting enter does nothing. Neither the "enter" button or "address bar arrow", for going to the website, function. Website does not load and no error messages appear. "Enter" button works fine in the FF search box and in IE, so it's not my keyboard.
Tried most of the recommended fixes under the "Error loading websites" article with the exception of "DNS refetching", as typing "about:config" in the location bar does no good as the "enter button" won't function. I've removed and re-added FF back into the windows firewall, removed ZoneAlarm from my system, edited proxy settings, deleted and reinstalled FF several times. NOTHING WORKS!!! I'm a die hard FF fan and this is KILLING me. Please HELP!!!

You have a lot of information in packed in the "More system details..." (in the right-hand column), where it looks like you found a solution. If not take a look at "Problematic Extensions" the AVG Free installation of their "'''AVG Free Search'''" can cause such problems. Directions to fix that are specific and involve reinstalling AVG Free without the Link Scanner component.

  • How do I disable the simplify awesome toolbar? (when i start typing it goes to the address bar instead of where I put the cursor)

When I am in Gmail or most other sites, when I type it automatically goes to the address bar. For example, in Gmail, I will click reply, and the cursor starts flashing in the message box. However, when I start typing, it goes into the address bar instead. When I am on another website (for example I am on my library website), i place my cursor in a field, start typing, and again it goes in the address bar. I have tried disabling the add-on, but it doesn't appear in the list of add-ons. When I search, I have the option of installing, as if I don't already have it. Any suggestions would be helpful!

    Hi,
There are a few keyboard shortcuts that jumps to the awesome (location) bar. Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keyboard-shortcuts-perform-firefox-tasks-quickly?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Keyboard+shortcuts#w_miscellaneous this]. You can try to check if any keys are stuck.
If keyboard problems can be ruled out, you can also Reset Firefox.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • Why do I see a yellow exclamation symbol in address bar?

When visiting some site using Android Firefox I get a yellow exclamation symbol in the left side of the address bar. For example at http://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_geolocation.asp
There is no indication anywhere why this is happening. Clicking on it does nothing.
    1. What does this symbol mean.
    2. The fact that I was unable to get info about it (in the browser) makes this extremely user unfriendly and should be fixed.
    See screenshot at https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-LJAuws1PnH4/UeJmfCwA5FI/AAAAAAAAAUM/VyTqkOySsg0/w491-h872-no/13+-+1

None of these answers are correct. The error favicon happens in Firefox for Android occasionally. When the browser is offline or on a poor network connection you will get a timeout error page.
We have a bug where the icon persists on reload. With a little time the favicon cache will expire and the favicon will be updated to the correct one.

  • When clicking on privious sites in the address bar drop down Firefox has started to just reload the current page, is there a fix?

Until recently I could click on resent sites in the address bar drop down, but now it just reloads the current page (still shows icons and addresses for the sites I'm clicking on). I've tired clearing history and cache, is this a known bug?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Cannot remove autocomplete entry from address bar; have already cleared history, and entry is not in the drop-down menu of the address bar either.

I am having problems removing an autocomplete entry from my address bar; I have tried clearing my history, so it's no longer in that, and I do not have it bookmarked either, so it's not getting the URL from that location either. The autocomplete entry isn't even showing up in the drop down menu, so I can't even scroll through that to delete it.
Basically, I want to be able to type "st" and go to "store.steampowered.com"; however, despite numerous times of typing in "st" and then going down into the drop-down menu to choose "store.steampowered.com", the bar continues to autocomplete "steamtrades.com", which is exceptionally annoying because I do not have that website bookmarked, or in my history, yet it continues to autocomplete to that address, which I do not want it to autocomplete to, and cannot figure out how to remove because I've already cleared my history multiple times, do not have it bookmarked, and it is not showing up in the drop down of the address bar for me to go down and force delete it.

Did you try to remove some letters from steamtrades.com to see if that bring this entry up in the drop-down list?
If it is not in the history then it might be present with a typed=1 flag indicating that you have typed or pasted it in the location bar.
You can use the SQLite Manager extension in Firefox to inspect the places.sqlite file to see if this entry comes up in the moz_places table.
    *SQLite Manager: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/sqlite-manager/
    <pre><nowiki>SELECT datetime(visit_date/1000000,'unixepoch') AS visit_date, url, title, visit_count, frecency
    FROM moz_places, moz_historyvisits
    WHERE moz_places.id = moz_historyvisits.place_id AND url LIKE '%steamtrades.com%'</nowiki></pre>

  • Address bar google search does not open in the current tab

When I do a address bar google search, the search window does not open in my current tab (which is usually a newly blank tab window), instead it opens in a previously opened tab window (or sometimes even a new tab), but never does the search appear in the current tab. When it does this, it ofteb replaces a web page which I can no longer view it without going backwards.
The only fix I have found is to open a new tab and go to Google's web page and search from there. But, this takes extra time and I have to remember to do this. Otherwise, I might lose web pages I wish to view.
This never used to happen until recently. I have a Mac using Lion for the past year.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Anna

I appreciate your input, but I don't want the google web page to open in a new window.
Instead, I want to search using the address bar in using google to open the search in the tabbed webpage I am viewing, rather than open another tabbed webpage. When it opens in a different tab from the one I am in, it either creates a brand new tab, or more problematically, opens the search in an tabbed window which has an existing webpage I still want to access for viewing.
This is a Firefox issue. Address bar searching works as it should in Safari.
