Current DDR Clock

Greetings - My Fellow MSI users!!
This is my first post and I'd like to welcome myself...   Thank you, thank you!!
I must start off with saying that I've built a number of rigs before, but to date I'm having the most fun with this one (see specs in sig).  This forum has provided me with a wealth of info and for that I thank you all for your input - VERY HELPFUL!
OK, now that's off my chest - here's my question -
Under the Cell Menu -
Where it lists  Current CPU Clock and Current DDR Clock -
My Current DDR Clock lists 200 - Is this correct when I'm running Kingston KHX3200AK2/512 (2x256).  I've up the voltages for the ram to 2.60v (as kingston indicated)... I cannot get the timing correct however... everytime I try to adjust, NO boot!  This is true whether the the RAM is in slots 1&2 or 1&3.  Is this a setting that can be/should be changed somewhere?
It seems pretty stable overall, but I keep thinking this thing should by flying right now!
Thanks
The specs incase the sig does not show up...

Rosewill FX5200 256MB
Aspire 500W PSU
Seagate 80GB Sata
Kingston KHX3200AK2/512 (2x256

Currently the settings are all on "Auto"
Kingston recommends 2-3-2-6-1
However when I try to enter those timings, by the time I get to the last entry "Row Precharge" there is no entry for #1 (only 2-6) and the one prior is "Min Ras#) is 5-15.
I've realized I need a better understanding of the timing settings because it seems really blurry right now.
I'll would like to give the your suggested timings a try, but clarify that 8 (in your 3-3-3-8) would be the selection for "Row Precharge" or "Min Ras#".... I'm thinking the latter of the 2 mentioned because "Row Precharge" only offers 2-6.
Thanks in advance!

  • [nForce] Current cpu clock has changed

My cpu was running ok, the bios showing Current CPU Clock 1833MHz, System Performance [Auto] and cPU FSB Clock [100MHz]. Some time ago I had a problem getting the AGP card to work, when I did I took a digitial photo of all the BIOS settings when the PD worked - thats how I know the above setting.  A couple of day ago I noticed that the cpu was running cool and performance wasn't as good as it should be so I checked under "System Properties" and that shows an Athlon 1.09GHz.  I've tried clearing CMOS and setting BIOS defaults (read on this forum somewhere). I've also tried FSB at 133, 166 and 200 but still only seem to report an Athlon 1.09GHz. Any suggestions.

  • 1:1 FSB:DDR clocks

i was just wondering if there was a noticeable performance difference with 1:1 ratio? i am currently running a P7N Diamond with a QX9650 @ 333x12 and 4x2GB G.Skill DDR2 1000(500x2) with a 2:3 ratio, and wondering if i should bother trying to get a 1:1 ratio. system seems stable but i am always looking for more speed

ok, i see where a 1:1 ratio would be good in keepin a low latancy for benchmarks. but in real world application faster speed is the best route my 2:3 rayion is un noticable,, means i xhoud be just fine with my stability. thanks for your help guys check my system out here http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=329680 i have had some good stability afer getting the G.Skill ddr2 1000ram and 1.1b1 bios. all i did was up the multiplyer and cpu volts. keep in mind i dont qit get 24/7 uptime like i used too with my laptop. somrtime my internet explorer gets all f'ed up and requirers a system restart. but my bit torrent client is just fine through this whole mess so i dont know what is the major deal here.

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum 54G BIOS problem

    I recently bought a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum-54G mainboard with W7025NMS v1.3  092204 revision of BIOS.
AMD Athlon64 3000+ 939 is installed on the mainboard, with 2x512 GEIL PC3200 memory modules in dual channel configuration working on default frequency of 200MHz. CPU is recognized correctly as AMD Athlon64 3000+ on startup.
Mainboard’s BIOS seems to be corrupted. In Cell Menu options, in the upper left part of the screen (printed blue) are processor and DDR working timings:
Current CPU Clock 1810MHZ, Current DDR Clock 200MHz.
Aggressive Timings and Dynamic Overclocking values are [Disabled] (processor working on its defaulf settings); Spread Spectrum is [Disabled] while all DRAM Configuration settings are set to [Auto].
While entering HT frequency settings, (locked to [x5])  there are no other values to select – empty, and there is no way to leave it (ESC doesn’t help, the only thing possible to do is to reset the computer by pressing the Reset button on the chassis), but  the HT frequency settings were enabled when I loaded Fail-Safe settings, offering [1x], [1.5x], [2x], [2.5x], [3x], [4x], [5x].
Adjust CPU Ratio settings offer only [StartUp], [x4]~[x9] values, but as I understood by reading the manual there should be [StartUp], [x4]~[x20].
CPU Voltage, Memory Voltage and AGP Voltage are set to default.
CPU-Z, as well as SiSoft Sandra 2004 and SiSoft Sandra 2005 and MSI CORE CELL show that processor works at a core speed ~1005MHz, showing multiplier locked on x5.0 and HTT locked at ~200MHz, while the voltage is ~1.05V!
I downloaded the latest BIOS revision (v1.4), did the BIOS flash, but the problem remains!
    Anybody, help!

    CPU Ratio settings
AMD64 CPOU's have a lock on CPU ratios which varies according to the specification of the chip. therefore the multiplier available in your bios stops at the max multiplier allowed by amd for your cpu.
As an example i'm running a 3200 754 which has a maximum muliplier of 11 so that is the max i see in bios.

  • Need help with k8n neo2 platinum

I've just installed a new k8n neo2 platinum s939 board with a venice core 3200+ cpu the htt is 2000 and multiplier 10x.
I've gone to the core cell menu and set the htt to 4x (seemed to be this at default) and the max mem clock at 166 (more about this in a moment), the fsb will go quite easily up to 250mhz even 255mhz, but when I try 260 Mhz the machine when it reboots shows the initial slash screen but then goes to a blank screen with the cursor flashing in the top left hand corner, I can't even get back into the bios setup without clearing the cmos.
The odd thing is that the adjust cpu vid is showing a voltage of 1.50 and not 1.40 or startup.
Anyway with the fsb at 250mhz the bios screen is showing the Current ddr clock at 208 mhz ( not the max memclock setting of 166) the memory in the motherboard ( a crucial 512meg ddr333 single stick) seems to perform OK according to memtest which shows no errors after 2 cycles.
Any attempt to get to 260mhz fsb appears to fail even by upping the cpu vid to 1.525v unless i adjust the cpu voltage setting which by default is set to (by cpu vid) to +3.3%. Doing this enables me to get to fsb 260mhz but the memtest fails ( even when I set the max memclock to 133, which shows my current ddr speed at 174mhz, well below the 208mhz which appeared stable with the fsb at 250mhz?)
So firstly why are there two cpu voltage settings in the bios when my manual only shows 1 (there is no mention of this cpu vid setting?
How is it that my memory is stable at 208mhz with a fsb of 255mhz but unstable at 174mhz with the fsb set at 260mhz?
Why does the memory clock lock not appear to be working, the memory should be fixed at 166mhz but infact increases with fsb?
    I have bios revision 1.5.
Please help as I am not familiar with the bios settings for this nforce 3 chipset, they seem rather odd to me. I'm sure my venice core 3200+ cpu can get beyond 250mhz fsb, I have another pc with a venice core 3000+ cpu which runs quite happily at 270mhz fsb.
PS I've tried reducing the htt to 3x but the same thing happens.

OK further feed back, I can get to over 260mhz fsb but the system is not stable the memory runs OK with mem test but I have problems with prime95.
I had to up the cpu core voltage to 1.53v to get to 260mhz using the cpu voltage setting in the bios and setting a 5% increase. increasing the cpu vid setting to 1.55v did not seem to do anything at all the core voltage was still at 1.43v.
I upped the mem voltage to 2.6v from 2.5 but still could not get the system to be stable, it may be that the memory is holding the system back but I don't want to pay for better memory at the moment. Unless anyone has got any other ideas it looks like I may be forced to settle with 250mhz, well still a 500mhz increase maybe not that bad. I've now to try 3d benchmarking using my radeon 9600xt and 3dmark 03.

Change your user config mode in dram configuration to manual and change your memory timing to 1T.  The 1T setting will speed up your memory slightly.

  • 7125v1.0 Neo4 Ultra - CPU Frequency wrong

    Config: MB:7125v1.D0, CPU: 3700+, Ram: 2*1GHz Gskill, VGA: Sparkle 6600GT PSU: Corsair VX550W, 2 IDE & 2 Sata Disks (Non-Raid)
    Hello,
MB is non-overclocked (never), but Cell Menu in Bios (v1.D0 - last disponible on MSI Site) shows:
Current CPU Clock 2211MHZ , Current DDR Clock.
I don't know when and how the frequency changed... at the time I flashed the Bios, frequency was 200MHz.
Actually, I can change, after windows has started, the frequency from 201 to 200MHz using the Nvidia Control Panel.
Even if Board is working with 201MHz clock, isn't it better - or am i wrong? - that frequency is not higher than 200MHz?
Is there any way to change this in the Bios, so the frequency is what it has to be?
In Cell Menu, these 2 lines (the first 2 of the screen) are grayed and said non-changeable.
I tried a Cmos-Clear, as indicated otherwhere (power cord unplugged, battery removed, waiting at least 15Mn, etc..) but nothing changed. I also tried to reinstall XP entirely on another clean disk, but CPU Frequency remains at 201MHz.
Is it possible to reflash the 1.D0 Bios on the same Bios and will it change the frequency?
What happens if I reflash the same Bios on that which is in use?
Or is it better consider reflashing an older Bios, and after that reflash the newer?
    Tia for any help
    Regards

Well what's the matter 200.5 or 200.0, you can try to disable CPU Spread spectrum it can affect 0.5 in the freq.
    Hello,
I apologize not to have answered before, but I was traveling for work the last 3 weeks.
I asked about the HTT frequence because it is generally said not to change the Ram Speed over the previous speed.
Even when I let 201Mhz for CPU Clock, i have some bugs (unexpected reboot after various time, unexpected PC freezing) - not always but from time to time. When I change the CPU Speed to 200 MHz with NVidia controlpanel, just after windows has started, these bugs never ! appear.
Changing the CPU Spread Spectrum option in the cellmenu has no effect.
So I'm wondering that i have this default which exists also when i make a new XP Install on a new disk: FSb Clock 201MHz CPU Clock 2211MHz instead of 200/2200. Ok with the multiplier factor it is right but The RAM Frequence is also 402 MHz.
    Tia

Ok, si vos decis q 200Mhz está bien... pero veo mal q el BIOS muestre eso ya q los anteriores mothers (como dije en el post anterior) muestran 400 Mhz... es para marearse.

  • So says MSI:

    Dear Sir
Sorry for bothering you but in the meantime another problem showed up. My K8N neo4-FI motherboard has bios version 1.6. I have obtained new E6 stepping core processor (BW) and, if I have understood well, this stepping is supported only in bios 1.9 version. On MSI forum I've found numerous posts saying that flashing to this bios version leads to problems (boot problems, etc.) so I don't want to rush. My motherboard boots fine with version 1.6 but I would like to get the most out of my CPU so I would like to know what exactly do I get (in practice)with flashing to a newer bios version. I have noticed that even after setting "memclock index value" to 200 MHz (manual mode), my "current DDR clock" in "cell menu" is still 230 MHz (works still in sync with my present FSB which is 230 MHz X 10), so I am wondering if this behaviour has something to do with my present bios version. My RAM is 2 X 512 MB Kingmax double sided DDR 433 SuperRam CL 2.5 so it is strange that it manages to work on 230 MHz and CL 2.5 which is far over the specs (217). So I came to the conclusion that perhaps bios somehow decieves me. I must say that MB is extremly stable and I am very happy with my first MSI motherboard. Best regards
    MSI replies:
Thank you for contacting MSI Technical Support!
As to your issue, if you really want to use E6 version CPU, we should update your BIOS to 1.9 version. we suggest you update it via Live update. You would clear CMOS after updating BIOS, the method of clearing COMS, please refer to manual, then load default in Setup. For your memory issue, we suggest you check it after loading default.
    Best Regards!
So, once again, MSI wasn't specific about my question and that's what do I get (IN PRACTICE) with flashing to v. 1.9 especially having in mind that in v. 1.9 bios description isn't mentioned anything about supporting new E6 stepping. Also, is bios version 1.9 problematic only when flashing K8N-neo2 series or the same thing applies to my motherboard (k8n-neo4 FI)? Maybe someone knows more about this issue? Thanks

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Curious Noob Ram mhz query

My Ram is 3200 or 400 mhz, yet when I look at the cell menu in the bios it says current DDR clock is 167 mhz, should it not be 200?
However, the DRAM Config is set on Auto - does this mean the DDR clock rate varies?
    Thanks for any responses .
    The boards is a K8N Neo2

    Thanks for this
Though I thought the slots were colour coded so you would put the two dimms in the same colours

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum bios problem

ive a 3.7 64bit which reports right at post
but in windows its showing at 3.7+ 2.21ghz
cpu support say its a 2.4ghz chip
i updated bios to the latest 1
in bios i went into cell menu
    in there its reporting at
    current cpu clock 2211mhz
    current ddr clock 201mhz
i can not change these settings
please can some 1 help me in setting my chip up so it reports right
    thanks

The link you provided relates to a amd roadmap from 2004 interpreted by Anandtech. A roadmap is like a what-we-want-to-do list from a processor manufacturer it's not binding for amd and doesn't represent what was indeed released. Indeed amd did not release a 2,4ghz 512kb 3700+ for 939. The first 3700+ for 939 was 1mb san diego core (2,2ghz). The only 2400mhz 3700+ is socket 754 Clawhammer core, try yourself on amd page by entering your processor details: http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/Default.aspx
You can prove me wrong by posting the opn printed on your cpu (looks like this ADA3700AEP5AR). But I'm sure there is no 2400mhz 3700+ for 939.

  • FSB:DDR ratio?

I don't really understand the FSB:DDR ratio? I have a MS-6758 LSR with a P4 2.6HT . I have 1 gb of Crucial TEch DDR Ram. I downclocked my FSB back to normal because of an instable system in windows ( freeze all the time).
Can you help me finding the best settings ( FSB, DDR CLocks, AGP VOLTAGE ect..)
    Thanks very much !!!!

You don't really 'lock' it to 400. You set it to 400 which puts it in 1:1 synch with the FSB at 200. I think what you want to do is set the DRAM clock at 333, so as it steps up with the FSB it won't reach 400 until your CPU is at a higher speed.
If you get this working, please report your current benchmark and your new benchmark when not running 1:1. I'm cursios to see the net effect of increasing your CPU speed while sacrificing memory speed.

  • Ipod nano 2nd gen and dock/alarm clock

i have read through alot of the posts and have not seen anything similar to my question.
i got my daughter an ipod nano for xmas.
we really dont leave the computer on alot and she was wanting a docking station/speaker setup. i found one that charges it/ has speakers and is also an alarm clock.
she likes the idea of having the alarm clock with it.
this is the model she got: curtis iMode ip210 link to where it was bought http://hhgregg.com/ProductDetail.asp?SID=0B568914D18A4CBEB2E80A95E8C46043&Produc tID=17180
we have not hooked it up yet because of a small problem maybe. (hooked up to power that is)
it came with a bunch of different adapters for the different ipod versions. well the nano one is incorrect. i guess due to ours being a 2nd gen version.
the ipod goes right on the dock fine with out it.
the little plastic adapter i got with the ipod kinda works in the slot of the radio but would need a little modification to snap in. the difference is the outside shape and would just needed some sanding. i have called the support number for the radio and all i could get from the was its not compatable. and i am not too sure why.
from what i have found out is all the ipod dock connectors are the same and there is no difference. not sure about this just what i have noticed.
i tried to call my local apple store and ask them but that guy started talking about firewire and problems. i told him how it docked and what it was and he still insisted on talking about firewire and those problems. i hung up as it didnt sound like he knew anything.
so now would i be ok in useing the adapter i got with the ipod and makeing some slight mods(sanding outside edge) to it. or is the something totally different between the 1st gen and 2nd gen that would mess up the ipod if put in this unit.
the reason i want this unit as it will replace her current alarm clock and she has a loft bed and its the only unit that we have seen that will fit and is in our price range.
    thank you for your help
    dawg
ipod nano 2nd gen   Windows XP

The dock adaptor that came with the iPod is meant to fit Apple's universal dock and not a 3rd party accessory.
The reason you are having issues is because although the dock connectors on iPods are all the same (the pins are in the same place), the connector on the second gen nano is in a slightly different place than on the first. If you look at it from the bottom with the iPod face up, it's slightly more to the left. This, and the fact that it has a metal case with rounded edges, has made the new nano incompatible with almost all these type of accessories.
It's been mentioned here several times, and a few people have been able to get the manufacturer of the dock to supply them with an adaptor.
