Current emails open up to show old emails from 2008

A couple months ago I opened an email from my son, but it opened up an email that I received from someone else in 2008. This happened maybe twice more until today.
My son sent me an email this morning and when I opened it, it was an email that I received in 2008 (a different one). I asked him to send the same message to my work address and it came in correct. Then later in the day I received and email from a store (that I usually get emails from) and also a friend - both with the same problem. Each time the incorrect email is from 2008.
I did a search using the "subject" of the one of the incorrect emails to see if is stored somewhere on my computer, but the only result was the one that I received today.
I just checked my may on my iPod Touch and the "problem" emails from today are correct!
Yikes.
I have absolutely no idea what could be happening, or what to check next.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

I know that you said you could not find another email on your computer with the same Subject, but do you think the the email had the same subject in the "Subject Line" as the old email message that is appearing in the email?
I had a similar problem with different emails sent from iPhoto that had the same subject in the subject line.   All of the text in all emails with the same subject line changed to the text in the most recently viewed email.

  • Contextual Open With Menu shows old non-existent Applications

Open With Menu: Shows multiple applications. It even shows versions of older applications that are no longer on my hard drive. And if I select these older version, those older applications launch! I've checked the About... menu selection on these older versions, and sure enough it says the older version. Example: I only have the latest version of Opera 9.24 on my drive, but 3 older versions, plus 4 of one of them show. I can click each one and they ALL launch with separate windows for each one.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305627
I followed the instructions to trash <com.apple.LaunchServices.plist> file and Restarted and the menu STILL lists all the applications. I then checked the Prefs folder again, and the <com.apple.LaunchServices.plist> hadn't even recreated itself yet.
    I'm totally stummped

I just realized that in my previous post I neglected to mention, that the problem has quickly returned. Sorry for any confusion.
Now after two tries, I notice that some .gif files have Preview icons others Photoshop. Some .gif files are listed to open with Preview, others with PS.
If I use Cmd + i on a wrong iconed file and scroll down to any other app, select it, let the icon change, then without doing anything else, scrolling back up to the default (Preview), the icon finally changes correctly. Change All is now available, but clicking it has no effect on any other files that have the PS icon. Some don't even change over from PS being the default app to Preview.
Same problem with .txt files. Some TextEdit, others Excel. So.. I am just changing them one by one, whenever I need to open one that is wrong.
At least the multiple apps in the Open With pulldown are gone
    I'd sure like to know:
    1) Why are my Library files corrupting and
    2) Why is Dr. Smoke's fix creating icon problems
    3) Out of the 1,000s of threads, I wonder what the possibility of the good Doctor ever finding this on and helping us/me find a total solution. Help us Dr. Smoke, we need youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...

  • Need help speeding up my old iMac from 2008 - defragment?

I have an old 20 inch iMac from 2008. It is a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of Ram. Its still running Leopard 10.5.8, which is te last version of Leopard (I believe).
I have several questions, but I will start with the biggest one.
How can I speed it up? It runs very sluggishly and I've tried just about everything to try to get it to speed up. I've done all the recommended things, such as removing unnecessary startup programs, repairing disk permissions, freeing up hard drive space, monitoring the task manager for processes that take up a lot of CPU power and I've added more ram. The CPU can be at 90% idle and it will still act slow.
I know its not the software because its as old as the OS, so the system should be able to handle it, for example, I am running Adobe CS3. A friend told me that maybe I need to defragment. I read that after a certain OSX version the system does not need to defrag because the OS prevents the hard drive from fragmenting in the first place. Plus, there is no utility to defrag in the OS. I also read somewhere that if you do happen to fill up your hard drive to the very brim the data will fragment regardless. I did fill the hard drive to the brim -- to about 500 MB of free space. Since then I have freed up about 100 GB, but its slow.
Should I find a way to defragment? If so, is there any 3rd party software that is recomended for an old system like this?
I have tons more questions, such as:
    - How to upgrade the OS to Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion.
    - Should I backup the system via Time Machine before upgrading the OS to Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion?
    - If I do upgrade my OS will my software be incompatible and do I need the original software discs to reinstall them?
    - Why does my Time Machine take so long to backup?
I'd like to start with an answer about defragmenting.

Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
Start with a visit to: OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney.
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot from your Lion Recovery HD. When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Data Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. SyncTwoFolders
      6. Synk Pro
      7. Synk Standard
      8. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

I upgraded to IOS 7.0.2 and now the guide for iCloud update shows my old email address.  How do I change this to my current email address?

Go to Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account.  Then log in using a different ID.

  • Although apple id changed to new email account iCloud still showing old one and cant access everything.  How do I update it?

Changed email address.  Apple id changed but iCloud still showing old one and can't find how to change it.  Cant access everything or download to iCloud because of this.  How do I update my info?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

  • Gmail on IPhone Only Showing Old Emails

I woke up today and when I went to check my gmail on my phone I only have emails from stores, hotels, the philharmonic etc. None of my personal emails are showing up. All of the emails I am seeing are old emails that were never opened (since they are basically junk).  I checked my email on my computer and I have received personal emails this morning but they are not coming through on my phone.
Have I somehow set my gmail on my phone to show certain message types only?
Please provide suggestions for how I can get my email back to a functioning state on my phone.
    Thank you.

Multiple outgoing mail servers is not the problem. It is common to have them; if one fails the iPhone will try the next one.
If you are using a POP3 provider and you are getting old messages on the phone that have already been retrieved by your computer then either the mail server is not properly deleting messages that have been downloaded by the computer or your computer is set to leave the original messages on the server. You can check this setting in the mail.app preferences on your Mac. If it is set to delete after downloading then the problem is in your mail provider.

  • On my phone the iCloud box opens and has an old email ID and wants the password....I have reset the ID and password several times, what am I missing??

iCloud on my phone still shows 'old email ID' and wants the password.  I have reset the ID(new email address) several times, and my phone does not update. Help!  What am I missing?

Did you go through the steps in my earlier post?
If the password for your old ID is not accepted when you try to sign out, and the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you'll have to temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out and choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Spolight showing old deleted emails (and no account set-up in Mail app)

Hi everyone! Here is my current situation:
I had to remove my Yahoo Mail account in my Mail application months ago. So, there's no email account that is currently set-up with my Mail app with Mac right now. I was searching for a document in Spotlight and while in the middle of typing, it showed me old emails from my Yahoo Mail account.
I don't want doing a search in Spotlight and having history and results of my correspondences in my email showing in my Spotlight search. I want it completely gone in my Mac history. Is that possible?
    Thank you in advance!

Launch Terminal (from Applications/Utilities) and type:
    sudo mdutil -E /
It will then ask you for your password, go ahead and type it, (don't worry if it doesn't show up, that's normal) and hit enter. It will say that it is being rebuilt (the Spotlight database) , and just wait until it is done (time varies depending on size of drive, files, etc.). Voila!

  • I want to change my primary email to my most current email but it keeps saying there is already an apple ID for that email, how do I delete that one so I can use all of my old information, just with my most current email address?

I created the apple ID that I currently have about 6 years ago and I want to change my primary email from my childish one to my most current email that I constantly use, but I think I accidentally created an apple ID with that email, I want to delete that apple ID so that I can just plug my new email in with all of my old information (that is still the same).  I am so lost

I don't believe Apple lets you delete old accounts. They also will not let you merge them.

  • My email address has changed on iphone, but the orignal old email address keeps popping up for password and I cannot reset it as my old email address was hijacked and closed.  How can i use my current email address for all iphone functions?

I have iphone4s with the operating system of 8.1.  I changed my email address which was used to register my iphone due to hijacking.  I am able to read all my emails using the new address.  However, I can not download apps as it keep asking me to provide the password for the original registered email address.  I do not have the access to the email address, so I can not retreive the password.  I want to clear this mess by resetting everything, and register my current email address as the only one to communicate on my iphone.  Please teach me how?

settings - app/iTunes store - sign out and sign back in with your new id.
Note - if your older apps needs an update it will use your old apple id and password, as Apps are tied to the apple id that was used to purchase it.
    You can't merge apple id.

  • My old email comes up when I want to update my apps.and I know that email is old and I don't use it.however I don't have a password for it so am unable to update.how can I delete it? And have my current email for that

My old email come up when I want to update my apps.however I don't use that password at all,I've even had a message saying its not in use. I can't update them though which is really annoying! I've tried setting up that email again and change password but doesn't work at all.does anyone know how I can get rid of and use my current email?

Hi there, this problem has probably been resolved now, but I must say that I came across these posts today as I had the same problem, my old e mail kept popping up, but all sorted now!  Old Apps are not tied to the old Apple ID, honestly!
Rudegar is so right, all you do is go the SETTINGS/iTunes & App Store, then select `Apple ID` `Sign Out` then you get the chance to enter your new ID, and it worked a treat!
Good luck with anyone else with this problem, as I spent so long on this, really stupid!
PS you`ll need to again verify bank details

    You cannot merge accounts.

That's what I'd do, since they are all free apps. Be sure & delete in iTunes as well as on your phone. When prompted in iTunes, move all files to trash & empty your trash. You don't want any trace of them left.
