Current OS is 10.4.11 - Easy way to Upgrade to Lion?

Can I upgrade to Lion? I have a mini mac, 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo;
If not, what is the newest OS that I can download and how do I do that?
Thanks for your help and quick response.

As said, your Mac cannot run Lion/10.7.x
Lion/101.7 System requirements
    •    x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
    •    At least 2GB of memory, (I say 4GB)
    •    Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
    •    At least 4GB of disk space for downloading, (I say 40GB at least)
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
To upgrade, first buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
It's recommended to make a backup of your files. If the upgrade fails, you will lose data. After making the backup, insert the DVD and follow on-screen steps to upgrade.
That disc will install 10.6.3, so open  > Software Update, and install OS X 10.6.8

The Mid-2007 model didn't come out until June 2007, so you must have bought an earlier model. It won't run Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.x), but it might run Lion (10.7.x) if you can get hold of a copy, depending on which earlier model it is.
Lion requires at least a Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The first MacBook Pros came out in January 2006, but they had "Core Duo" processors (no "2"). The Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros came out in October 2006. You could have bought either in March 2007.

  • Is there any easy way to upgrade from Logic Express?

I bought it last year because I couldn't afford the full version - then the full version was dropped to the same price and LE was discontinued. I'd love the security of having it attached to my Apple ID, and to upgrade now, but paying the same price again seems a bit much. Is there any way to upgrade?

You are not alone in your predicament since Apple broke up Logic Studio and discontinued LE.
If you want to make your next purchase via the App Store (which would be wise for future upgrades) I think you basically have two options:
    1) Even though it would seem like you're buying Logic again for the same price that you paid for LE, you would be getting a lot more in the way of instruments, plug-ins, and loops.  Sculpture, Space Designer, and all 6 Jam Packs for starters.  Not to mention that you would then be set up for updates and upgrades.  You may find this helpful in determining what you would be immediately gaining by buying Logic Pro 9:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4229
Even though the document shows Logic Studio, if you just eliminate Compressor, Mainstage, Soundtrack Pro, and Waveburner you can still clearly see what you'll be getting.  If all this makes you drool  you can get LP9 now or . . .
    2) You could wait a bit longer and buy Logic Pro X, whenever that is released.

  • Is this a "safe" way to upgrade to lion and transfer apps/data to new imac?

I have an older imac running 10.6.8 and I am considering buying a new one.
I read a link with guidleines to upgrade to lion. My question is:
After upgrading to lion, I am going to buy a new imac and want to move to the new imac with the least inconvenience. I have a lot of music app/usb interfaces so the time to reconfigure everything would be very time consuming.
So is the "safe" way to do it?
Do a time machine backup of current configuration.
Follow the link I saw outlining upgrading from 10.6.8 to lion on my current imac.
Get everything working again on the current imac with mountain lion.
Do a time machine backup of the lion configuration.
Get the new imac and on first boot, elect to restore from the time machine backup wiping out what came installed on the new imac.
Another time machine backup on the new imac.
    I should be done?
or is there a better /safer way?
I have been putting this off for almost year because of the number of apps I am running and devices I have connected. a short list.
file servers off firewire 800 and 400 ( I know I will need the thunderbolt to firewire adapters).
approx 12-18 usb devices all connected either directly or daisy chained through usb controllers connected to usb controllers.
    about 10 external USB drives.
    vmware
    midi interfaces for piano/guitar.
    m-audio fast track ultra
    multiple DVD/blu-ray reader/writers
Hence my concern for a smooth transition
    thanks in advance.

There is really no need to update the older iMac running 10.6 to Lion, especially if you have multiple backups of your User Data. You can easliy move or migrate data from any one of your External HDs or Server to the new iMac.
    As for your current iMac:
If you plan on selling the older iMac, Lion is not transferable and you will want to sell it with a clean install of 10.6 and let the new owner upgrade.
If you plan on keeping the older iMac around for others to use and it supports Mountain Lion, then in my humble opinion Mountain Lion is the better upgrade.
    As for your other devices:
    • Yes, Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter
    • Yes, external USB 2.0 and 3.0 devices are backwards compatible
    • Sorry, I don't use vmware
    • Sorry, I don't use midi interfaces
    • Sorry, I don't use m-audio
    • Yes, my external DVD drives work with various Mac's running 10.6 thru 10.8
Sorry I can't better answer your Audio questions. If no one else comes along with the answers here, then you might try starting another ASC question focused on those transitions.

  • Easy way to upgrade a one-node cluster?

    Hi all...
I have a one-node cluster running SQL Server.  I would like to upgrade the O/S from W2008R2 to W2012R2.  Unfortunately, the Compatibility report tells me that it won't upgrade because it is a member of a cluster.
I understand that if it is a member of a two+ node cluster that it won't upgrade, but I don't understand why I can't do it on a single-node cluster.
Is there a work-around for this?  I don't want to start redirecting clients to a different cluster name / ip address.
    Thanks!

Why even have a one-node cluster for anything but testing purposes?
Why not create another server with the name of your cluster and set it up to serve out the SQL database.  Or, if you want to do it properly, get two nodes and make the cluster and keep the cluster name the same.  Those are two work arounds.
There is no upgrade in place for what you want to do.

  • Best way to upgrade to Lion?

I've spent the last 2 hours upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my Macbook. What's the best way to upload Lion from here? Is the OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive better than a download? I think the latter one is $69. Not sure of the download price. I am trying to prep for iCloud. Talk about watching paint dry-this is killing me.

Several applications were written when PowerPC-type CPUs were used.  When Intel replaced PowerPC they included Rosetta ro run the programs that were compiled around the PowerPC chip-instructions.
But finally Rosetta has no upgrades and no one else has emerged to update it.
roaring apps is one of the more complete guides of what is PPC.  Also, on your system go to "About this Mac > More Info > Applications" ... this is mine:
Under "Kind" it will indicate PowerPC.
    BUT
The fact that at least one of your applications is not compatible with SL means probably bigger problems when going to Lion.  You NEED to investigate the impact to your productivity due to lack of compatible applications, in my opinion.
I have not been around "OSX transitions" long enough to provide more than these few instructions.  Others have been around Apple products for decades and have more first-hand experience with which applications do not translate well.

  • What is the easiest way to upgrade 100  Ipads to IOS5.

Got 100 brand new Ipads, want to upgrade them all to IOS 5.  Right now I'm having to register every one, naming them all like they should be, and then manually upgrading each one.  Please tell me there is an easier way.  I see Lion Server lets you manage them, but I'm not sure if that would include upgrading.  Probably in the next 6 months, we're going to be responsible for another 100-200, so I'd like to have something in place.  I've used the Iphone Config Utility to setup the wireless and make a few changes, but nothing really big.  Would a MDM be able to upgrade them?  Is Lion Server an actual MDM?
    Thanks for any help.

This says that you can update IOS.  Gonna play with it later.

  • The best way to upgrade from SL to Lion

    Hi,
I’m currently running SL and its actually running verysmooth and I was wondering if I could just upgrade to Lion without actuallywiping my entire local HD, is this a good choice or its always better to do afresh reinstall?
What would be the best way to upgrade to Lion?
Any idea when is the release date?
    Thanks

No details have been released, and anyone who knows is not allowed to say any more.
Upgrading has never required erasing.  A few people (perhaps out of habit from using Windoze) do it, but many long-time, experienced users, don't.
Let Apple tell you about the release:  http://www.apple.com/macosx/notify-me/

  • Is there an easy way (or is it even possible) to rollback a project currently in RH 10 to RH 8?

I am experiencing an issue with Robohelp 10 and need to rollback to Robohelp 8.  Is there an easy way to rollback to 8?

There is information about opening Rh10 projects in Rh9 on my site at http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/rh10/using_rh10.htm.
You may need to change the version number. Note that this is not recommended.
What is the issue? It might be better to start a new thread on that.

  • Is there an easy way to reimport all songs in my itunes folder?

This may sound like a weird question but here goes... When I bring up my iTunes I have 8731 files (mostly music) that come to about 41.33G's but when I right click on my iTunes Music folder and select properties there are 8809 files and a total of 48.5G's. I am trying to free up some disk space and can't figure out why there is such a difference. I had issues with Norton 360 and removed it but I had to restore my music files from an external drive and when I did so I lost the links for music that I added after my last back-up. I noticed that TV shows I bought from Apple were not in my iTunes but I was able to locate them in the folder, and import them back into iTunes. I have a feeling there are music files in my folders that are not linked to iTunes but can't figure out how to import them without going through all 8800+ files. Is there an easy way to import all the files without losing the current playcounts or a way to figure out which files may be duplicated in my iTunes Music folder. Seems like I am wasting 7G somewhere that I would like to recover. I already went through the duplicate songs and that didn't help. Any suggestions would be great...

AFIK there isn't an easy way of linking up to a lot of dead tracks and retaining play counts etc, except by finding the dead tracks and repairing each link individually. The only exception to this is if there is a simple error in the path that can be fixed by a search and replace on the xml library file, then rebuilding the library. However it doesn't sound as though that would be a solution for you.
This MacMuse tip has a way of finding dead tracks if that helps.

It is much simpler to sacrifice the playcount information and just reimport your iTunes Music folder. Then you can eliminate the dead tracks with a script. One of the forum members has written one that you can find here:

  • I am looking to "move out" of my computer and into my wife's, is there an easy way to accomplish this task, keeping all my files and setting up a second user?

I just bought a new external 3TB hard drive for this task and want to keep my items seperate from hers for both our sanity.
I figured that I would do a time machine back up and use that to do the move part of things.
But as to setting up the new user on her computer I am just not sure if I can "tell" the computer to only use the new drive for my stuff and only acces the new drive for all things related to that new profile.
More then anything else I want to be able to say that all things that are hers have not been touched/acccesed/deleted by any of my actions. And that I am "confined" to the new drive.
    I hope this makes sence.
