I have a student who created a small animation with an introduction and then in the middle she wants to do a stop action (which works) then add a play button to play the rest of the animation. We are trying to use Action Script 2.0 - we have CS4 and they were taught with the instruction book to use 2.0 in the class. Help?

Based on that message, Esdebon is likely giving you the correct solution. AS3 does not allow objects the have code applied to them, and that message is an AS3 message. If you check your Publish Settings you will probably find that AS3 is selected instead of AS1/2.

There is nothing stopping you from producing files in the old
ways. Go to the publish settings and select to publish as AS2. You
can then use the techniques you are familiar with.
However as dzedward points out, Actionscript has come a long
way. The technique of putting the code directly on instances really
went out with Flash MX in 2001 and for a long time now that wasn't
the best way to do it. See this article by the very excellent David

So even if you aren't ready to take the plunge into AS3, I
would recommend learning this style for all your AS2/1

I have instances of a button and I cant seem to add any
actions to them! I just get the message in the topic title. I have
another flash file that has buttons with actions applied to them,
but this one wont let me!

In Flash CS3 using AS3, yes, you cannot apply actionscript
directly to any instance. You will need to name the instance and
then write your actionscript in a frame actions space.
Alternately, you can open the Publish Settings window and set
your movie to use AS2. Then you can continue to use actionscript as
you like.

SWF settings - compress movie and include hidden layers checked.
Advenced - Permit debugging and password set.
Local playback security: Access Network Only
Script time limit incrased from 15 to 1500 seconds but neither value changes a thing.

My Site Branding - How can we have it applied for dynamically created My Sites? (/personal/username)

I have a SharePoint 2013 environment in which My Sites are enabled.
As you know the My Site of every user gets created in /personal/Username dynamically, when a User goes to his "My Site" from the "About Me" link.
The requirement is for us to apply a custom master page / styles for the all My Sites
How do we do this in a way - where it gets applied for all the existing My Sites and also the My Sites that will get created in the future? What will be the right help?

Can't attach action to a button?

This is a newbie question. I've made an animated button and
it plays back just as I want it to when preview it, but when I
choose it on the stage and try to attach an action to it (goto
frame etc) "I get a message that says Current selection cannot have

I'm stumped. I mean, it's a button, so you have to be able to
attach functionality somewhere, but how?

Chances are your file is set up for AS3, which will not allow
code to be attached to objects (AS2 does). All code for an AS3 file
must be placed on the timeline.

Script to apply a style to currently selected text

I can only find example scripts that work on complete files. What I want, is a script that works on currently selected text.
If I can create a macro that applies a specific paragraph style to all currently selected paragraphs, or a character style to currently selected text, I can put that style under a shortcut key.
That way, "emphasis" or "strong" can be put under ctrl-b, for example.
If there is another way to achieve the same (in RH 9), I would be interested to hear it as well.

I had a quick look at Macro Express, but it seems that it only records key strokes and mouse clicks etc. This means that it only works if I have the style pod constantly open (which I do), always in the exact same position, with the same filter styles selected, and with the same CSS loaded, positioned at the same location in the scroll bar.
Am I correct in assuming this, or is there a better way to program it?
I am not sure this would be possible all the time. What's more, this script should work across multiple computers with different layouts, and with writers who don't really want to hack to get it working.
With character styles there would be the possibility to automatically switch to HTML view, cut, write <span...>, paste, write </span>, go back to design view.
But paragraph styles? That would be harder to do in HTML view, especially for multiple selected lines.

How to edit a PDF created with Acrobat XI Pro after signatures have been applied (like I can in 7, 8.0

I have a major issue that I need to resolve before we can purchase Acrobat XI Pro:
Currently, with Acrobat 8.1 Pro, after all signatories sign a document, we add an Effective Date (we add it after they sign since we don't know when the last signature will be acquired and we can't have an Effective Date that is before the date of the last signatory, otherwise, it would be effective before they signed it, which is not possible). I'm also allowed the latitude (as stated in our Documentation Control procedure) to make spelling corrections, hyperlink updates and minor formatting changes (by using the typewriter tool and also by replacing a page that is NOT the signed page if the change repaginates the document or involves modifying a hyperlink that has changed).
In all of the previous versions of Acrobat that we've used (7 Pro, 8 Pro and 8.1 Pro) , this has been easily possible and all changes would be listed under the Signatures tab, which is exactly what we want, which is traceability.
I'm using the trial version of Acrobat XI Pro now but am getting the message "This document is signed and can not be edited." If I bring the same PDF that was created from Word 2003 & 2013 using Acrobat XI Pro into 8.1 Pro, though, I CAN add the date, use the typewriter tool and replace non-signed pages, save it and exit without clearing or losing any signatures.
My question is this: How can I do this in Acrobat XI Pro, as XI Pro (in the Signature pane) also lists the changes made to the document when it was edited using 8.1 Pro? (It's OK that the changes made to the PDF then mark the signatures as "invalid", as the reason why they were invalidated is also listed in the Signature pane, e.g. "Form Field Added", which is usually the applied Effective Date.)

Acrobat versions prior to 9 had a bug which allowed you to do what you did. In Acrobat 9 this bug was fixed. In order to do what you want you need to certify (apply special certification digital signature with your certificate -- it is "Certify (Visible/Invisible)" choice in the "Work with Certificates") your document first. In the process of certification you can specify which modification permissions you allow the users of your document to make after signing. Certification signature must be the first signature in the document.

How can a classic report be filtered using one select item and dynamic action?

I have a page with 4 reports on it. The top report is an interactive report and the following 3 are classic reports. The users would like to be able to use a select list to filter the 3rd report by PO line number without refreshing the entire page.
After verifying that the report is set to allow partial refreshes, I took the following steps
1. Created a PO Line select item (p_po_line_select) in the same report region
2. Added p_po_line_select to the report query
3. Created a dynamic action on p_po_line_select with 2 true actions
     1. Set value (p_po_line_select)
     2. Refresh report region.
The Set Value dynamic step was not working; I would get an out of memory error at line 2, memory stack error, or the value did not get saved to session state depending on the settings I selected. I was able to get it working with the following set:
1. Action = Set Value
2. Set type = PL/SQL Expression
3. PL/SQL Expression = :p_field_does_not_exist
4.   Page items to submit = blank
5. Selection Type = Item(s)
6. Item(s) = p_field_does_not_exist
p_field_does_not_exist does not exist as a page or application item which leads me to believe that this is a bug and I am just lucky that it worked. I would rather know how to do this properly. Can someone please provide a link to a working example of how this should be done or state which settings are wrong?

Premiere Pro audio slips out of sync, though it does not occur in Sony Vegas or in Lightworks with the same footage. Strangely, this is not only with the audio from within the video (.mts) file, but also from the audio I record separately and sync up in post. The frame rate and everything is, according to the sequence settings, accurately detected.
Running my file through Handbrake is a workaround that I'm not willing to use. I've set my workflow (capture) so that this should be unnecessary, and indeed it is unnecessary . . . except for within Premiere Pro. Using Media Encoder to output an intermediate file doesn't work either; the audio still slips out of sync.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

No CSS properties apply to the current selection

I have a style sheet in my root directory. It is showing as being connected to my html page. It is written in with <link href="_css/main.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css /">.
In my Manage Sites section it is shown in "Advanced Settings" > "Local info" > "Site-wide Media Query file"
Despite all that when I click on any element in the Design view with either my CSS "Current" or "All" selected it keeps showing the error "No CSS properties apply to the current selection"
I have studied other sites of mine line by line where it works and compared it to this one and cannot see anything missing.
So I really would appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

I don't know as I apply all css manually BUT you have a / after css in the link to the stylesheet you provided below (if its not a typo) which may be causing the issue:

I do not know how to reload/reinstall "ADOBE" golive default actions. I'm using golive cs mac version and "ON LOAD" action. I can't select it when creating a golive action.....It converts it or something to a rollover..

I just remembered I have a couple of screen snaps online to explain how
it's done:
1. place your base image and name it in the inspector
2. from the smart objects palette grab the head action item, the one
with a question mark in its upper, green half - the 2nd one from the
left. Drop that into the pages head section.
3. in the inspector set the action to run OnLoad and select the base
image that you named in the first step and set the other parameters.
This was done in the days of GL6, but not much had changed in GL CS.
Anyway you might also refer to GL's online help. It describes how to set
up all the actions that ship with GL.
