Current version of Airport software

What is the most recent version number for Airport Admin Utility and for
Airport Setup Assistant.
My mini shows version 4.2 for both.
When I run either they both indicate inability to interact with my AEBS
connected to Verizon DSL.
Yet the AEBS is working normally in terms of supplying an internet connection.
Should I reset it and start again?
Readson I'm even thinking about this matter is the failure of my G3 Wallstreet to communicate with this BS. Wallstreet uses a Lucent wireless card. All seems correct with the Wallstreet, but when it tries to conncet it dials an old ISP phone number and stops when there is no dial tone.
At first I thought the G3 problem was internal to that PB, but now I wonder if it might not be my AEBS acting up.
Thoughts?

  • Current version of airport utility will not connect with older airport express

I was given an older aiport express that I want to add to my network for iTunes sharing.  I have an airport express and aiport extreme currently.  I am running Mac OS x 10.7.5.  My current version of airport utility does not support this express and it tells me to download utility version 5.6. When i try to install version 5.6 i get an error message that tells me to contact software manufacturer.  I'm sure there is a simple fix but I don't know what to do.  Any help would be great!

    Hi
again , at least for getting 5.6 installed, look at my post earlier, or better to JEFFY's and download an much better alternative "unpkg", to get it ( 5.6) on to  your  mac.
Then, though, getting to use it to configure your older AP as I attempted is anothe matter. I didn't succed so far..
Good luck to you. If it works pse tell .
    Thanks.

  • Current version of Airport Utility 6.3.1 will not allow me to configure my Airport Extreme

I am trying to extend my Airport network.  I bought a couple of years' ago an Airport Express and have been using that but the signal is weak at the back of the house so I thought I would bring back into action my Airport Extreme which I have had for at least 10 years.  I can still use it as my primary wi-fi source directly of the modem but I am unable to configure it in the current version of Airport Utility as a base station to extend the network.  I think that the Airport Utility is incompatible with it.  Is this likely?  Is there a soution?  Many thanks.

Unfortunately, even if it were possible to find a version of AirPort Utility that would work with the old AirPort Extreme, the old Extreme does not have the capability to "extend a wireless network" since this feature was introduced in the 2007-2008 versions of the AirPorts.
I'm afraid that you will need to add a new AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme if you need to "extend" the current wireless network that the AirPort Express now provides.

  • Can I connect an A1084 model Airport Express using current version of Airport Utility

Can I connect an A1084 model Airport Express using current version of Airport Utility?

You will need an older 5.x version of AirPort Utility to be able to administer the older AirPort Express.  That would mean that you need to have....or be able to borrow for 10-15 minutes......a Mac running Leopard (10.5.x), Snow Leopard (10.6.x), or a PC with AirPort Utility installed on the device.

  • Is the current version of AirPort Extreme better that the version I purchased two years ago?

Does the current Airport Extreme have better
range than the one I purchased 2 years ago?

    Not in regards to range.
If you have a new Mac purchased in the last year or two, you may get a bit faster connection on the 5 GHz band if the computer is in close proximity to the router.
If you need more range, you will do better by adding an AirPort Express or another AirPort Extreme to "extend" the wireless signal of your current AirPort.

  • Airport software version 3.3

According to apple article 107795 I need AirPort software version 3.3 to support my newly acquired AirPort (but second hand original) Card in my ibook running OS 10.3. Fine!
But, I cannot find this version of Airport software anywhere on the downloads web site. Not so fine.
Surely, this should be available somewhere. Does anyone know where it might be?

I just did a Google search on Airport 3.3 and the top result was the correct Apple page.
Google is often easier to use than the support search for some topics.

  • No Airport software available for OS 8.6?!?

I have an original G3 clamshell ibook (blueberry, single USB, no firewire), running Mac OS 8.6. I recently acquired an airport card for it (just the card, no install software), which I have installed. I attempted to locate Airport software for it and found the relevant Apple support document at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75422
This doc clearly indicates in note 1 that "AirPort 1.3.1 installs on Mac OS 8.6. Only the original iBook is compatible with Mac OS 8.6 and AirPort 1.3.1."
Accordingly, I downloaded the software and the installation fails with the message: "Airport 1.2 requires Mac OS 9.0.4 or later. Please choose a different destination disk, or perform a clean installation of Mac OS 9.0.4"
Huh? I have an original iBook, and I'm running OS 8.6, so why do I get this message?
I searched for other docs or downloads (or older versions of Airport software), but no dice. Am I therefore officially hooped?
I don't want to either shell out for, nor go through the hassle of, upgrading system software to 9.x. (If you can't tell, I'm not a techie, and it's for this precise reason that I'm a Mac user in the first place.)
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Further thought: Given when Airport came on the market, OS 9.x was probably the current operating system, and Apple may not have tested Airport for use on OS 8.6, hence a 9.x OS requirement (whether truly needed or not). Thus, there may not even be any OS 8.6 version of Airport software; I haven't checked. However, unless Airport needs a specific system code which is not is 8.6 but in 9.x, then some to all of Airport might function on 8.6. I just read in another thread that there is a TCP/IP difference between 8.6 and 9.x, needed in networking, so that might be a stumbling block as Airport involves TCP/IP. Bottom line, unless someone posts with specific information based on experience about this, or you can google something, you may just have to do a trial and error test! Good luck! Airport is a learning experience and not a little "Airport voodoo" can be involved!!

  • HT4260 This article seems to refer to an older version of Airport Utility that no longer Exists.

The current version of Airport Utility on Lion does not look like this nor offer all the same setting options.  I am having similar problems to others.  Is there an updated set of instructions?  I am using a Time Capsule as my primary base station and have been able to only connect one airport express via an Internet cable successfully.  When I attempt a second airport express connection via Ethernet, I get error messages and sometimes disconnects from the Internet signals.  I have a two story house with in the floor radiant heating, which means the floors are separated by concrete with copper piping for the hot water, so the need to use Ethernet cables and airport express units to get wifi signal to the entire house.

When I attempt a second airport express connection via Ethernet, I get error messages and sometimes disconnects from the Internet signals.
AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion will track with the instructions that you have there although it is much faster and easier to use AirPort Utilty 6.1 in Lion.
Here I am assuming that your AirPort Express is an 802.11n version and you are setting up the Express by using a short spare Ethernet cable connected to the Time Capsule first....and then moving it to the desired location after it has been configured.
I also assume that you have previously tested the Ethernet cable to the remote location by temporarily connecting a laptop, turning off the wireless on the laptop and checking to make sure that you can get a good Internet connection that way.
Please confirm and add any additional information that you think might be helpful.

  • My ipod touch says I need to update the software in order to access iTunes for apps, but iTunes says I have the most current version.  What do i do?

I have an iPod touch.  When I try to download an app, it says I need to update the device's software to access the iTunes store.  But, when i connect to iTunes, it says I have the most current version.  I'm stuck.  My mother got this iPod as free-with-purchase when she bought her desktop.  She used it, then gave it to me.  Could this be the problem? because she connected it to her iTunes and now it won't work on mine?  When I first plugged it into my iTunes, it said the iPod was registered to another account and did I want to sync it with my account, to which I said yes.  So far, this iPod has been useless to me because I can't download any apps to it.  Help, please.

because you do not have a 3rd generation device. The OS Version says so , otherwise you would be at 4.3.5 minimum and also Itunes is also always correct in determining if you have the latest OS ( if not it fetches the newest from Apple's Servers ) . And because a 2nd generation iPod stops at 4.2.1 you can't get the newest OS, because your device is old. Buy a new iPod , they have iOS5 preinstalled.

  • HT4623 I have IPAD 2.  i want to update to a more current version of IOS, but I don't have a "software update" option.  Does anyone know how I should go about updating my ipad.  I bought it in April, 2011.

I have an IPAD 2 that I purchased two years ago.  I would like to get a more current version of the IOS so that I can download games, etc.  The instructions say to go to General and select Software Download.  I do not have that option listed in my General area.  Does anyone know how I should go about getting the more current IOS?  Also, will the download hurt my IPAD.  I was told it might damage my operating system.  Thank you, Marilyn

No. The Download is the operating system. It won't damage it because its released by Apple and signed to work on it.
It will update the Operating system to the newer version.
