Currently operating Intel Core Duo how can I upgrade

Do I have to take the computer to Apple as I am unable to download from the app store... at least with my limited knowledge... or will I need to upgrade the whole computer?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Go to  > About this Mac and copy Version. If the version is 10.6, open  > Software Update and install the most recent version because you can't upgrade to a newer Mac OS X. If it's 10.4 or 10.5, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Then, make a backup, insert the DVD and upgrade

  • I have a mac book pro, 2006 with an 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, can I update to Lion? to use icloud.

Apple keep telling me I need to update to icloud but I'm not sure if Lion will work on my Mac. I've upgraded to snow leopard which seems to have knackered my .me or .mac account (whatever it's called now), so I don't seem to have any option but to upgrade to Lion if I every want to see my emails again.
Apple say I must have a Intel Core 2 processor for Lion to work...... at least I think that's what they say.
I have a mac book pro, 2006 with an 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, can I update to Lion?

    Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
If you have a Core Duo model then you cannot upgrade to Lion. You can upgrade to Snow Leopard, but iCloud is not available for Snow Leopard.
Open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. Look for the Model ID in the displayed information. If you have a MacBookPro 2,1 or later then you have a Core 2 Duo model and can upgrade to Lion.

  • I have a MacBook Pro that has an Intel Core Duo Processor but to upgrade to Lion OS X I need an Intel Core2 Duo. Can I upgrade?

I have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard OS 10.6.8 but want to upgrade to Lion. My Mac that has an Intel Core Duo Processor (I know really outdated huh) but to upgrade to Lion OS X I need an Intel Core2 Duo. Can I upgrade or will it mess it up?

It actually shouldn't allow you to upgrade. Your configuration should be detected and then it should reject your attempt to upgrade.

  • Running OS 10.6.8 on a 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3 Mac can I upgrade from Indesign CS5 to CS6?

Running OS 10.6.8 on a 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3 Mac can I upgrade from Indesign CS5 to CS6?

They do, but what happens when the client(s) move to CC? Of course doing
so opens a new can of worms for you since 10.6.8 is unsupported for
    anything later than CS6.
You should start budgeting for some upgrades sooner rather than later.

  • My Mac has an intel Core Duo. Can I install Lion?

My IMac has a 1.83 GHz intel core duo processor.  Can I install the new Lion software?

I'm afraid not. I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro 17" 2.16 GHz.
The Core Duo is not supported with Lion - you need Core 2 Duo or higher.
See "Step 1 Make sure your Mac can run Lion." in link below.

(sigh) One of the problems of being an early adaptor, I guess.
My MBP is one of the first Intel Macs to come out in Thailand.

  • HT4759 Will iCloud work if have 4th gen. iPod touch (iOS 6) but an iMac running OS X v.10.6.8 (1.83GHz Intel Core Duo processor prevents Lion upgrade-according to Apple)?

Will iCloud work when iMac (1.83 GHz. Intel Core Duo) is running Mac OS X 10.6.8 with 4th gen. iPod touch (iOS 6) because unable to upgrade to Lion due to processor's inablit to meet Apple's specifications for Lion? My family had three iPod touch (iSO 6) devices and currently use iClou, but set it up with a Macbook Air using Lion- but yesterday it died. Is there any way to retain the use of oPod touh devices, iTunes purchases, and iCloud services (and the huge amount of money spent on the) if not able to use the Macbook Air? I know the iMac is "old" but do not have thousands of dollars to purchase new computer at this time.

10.7.2 or later is required to use iCloud on the computer. Your iPod Touch, however, would have full use of iCloud.

  • 2.4Ghz Intel Core Duo 2 MacBook. Upgrade to 4GB Ram???????

Hello all. First Post. Was just curious and wanted to make sure that I could upgrade my computer with 4GB of Ram.
My other question is will I see a noticeable difference in the performance of my computer? I do a lot of music editing, photo editing, and video editing. So will I able to tell??
And just to let you all know. I just bought my MacBook about a month ago. My first mac ever, and I have to say that I will never go back.

Yes - 2 x 2 GB is the max for the latest MacBooks. You might not notice a huge difference depending on your use, but it does give you peace of mind that you aren't missing out with some memory hungry applications.
I have 4 GB, and I've tried all sorts of things (some insane tests with multiple applications open and running) and haven't noticed more than maybe 2.5GB being used. Perhaps your applications are more memory intensive.

  • Window server on intel core duo

is window server installed on intel core duo.how it is installed

Perhaps you are misunderstanding something about Apple computers.
All Apple computers, including those with the Intel Core Duo processors, come with Mac OS X as the preinstalled operating system.
Only recently, Apple has released a beta version of Boot Camp, which is software that will allow you to partition your hard drive for the purpose of installing Windows XP on a seaparate partition, thus creating a dual boot system. Boot Camp includes drivers for Windows XP which allows Windows to run on the Apple hardware.
You can't simply install any version of Windows on Apple hardware.
You need to install Boot Camp first. Boot Camp does not have the drivers for Windows 2003 server, so you will probably not be able to run it successfully.

How can I create a start up disk for a old intel core duo running 10.5.8.. Computer works fine, but can't find install disk. Want to use internal disk drive or USD flash drive.

Try calling 1-800-676-2775.  Give the serial number and thy *may* still burn you new install disks designed just for the hrdware in your system (for a fee, something like $160 per disk).  *May* is only because they may not burn disks for Leopard anymore.
If they do not burn them for you, you can buy Leopard disks off Amazon or eBay for about $200.
Have you considered Snow Leopard?.  Those disks only cost $19 (single user) or $29 (5-user license) through Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE.

You can check to see if yours meets the system requirements for Snow Leopard - that would be the highest; Lion will not run on your machine.
Please note that the minimum 1 GB RAM is a minimum - 2 GB would be better.

You can buy it at the Apple Store, other online resellers, or ebay (but be careful there to only bid on a new retail shrinkwrapped package to you don't get suckered into a used install disk which won't work on other machines).
