Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions....
Try cleaning your trackpad. Shut down the Mac. Get a clean lint free rag, dampen it with water and just gently wipe the trackpad. Are you using a mouse by chance? Same thing... clean the mouse.
Also, go to System Preferences/Keyboard&Mouse/Trackpad and make sure your settings are to your liking.

  • My cursor jumps around while typing and scrolling. i've tried different mice, different usb ports

I have a new HP pavillon HPE windows 7. My cursor jumps around while typing and scrolling. I've tried different mice and usb ports.I contacted HP support and was instructed to do several things to the mouse and pointer, nothing helps. I installed in usb port in the rear of the computer that helped for a short time, then it went back to jumping around. So what else can I try. Thanks

I have to admit I am baffled. I understand and have seen the issue happen on laptops before, but for the issue to be happening on a desktop strange. I can even understand a wireless mouse, however yours is wired.
Microsoft has a tool called Mr Fix it. It scans the problem area and attempts to fix whatever is wrong. It's worth the shot in this case to see if it helps resolve the mouse issue.

  • Email cursor jumping around while typing????

My cursor jumps around while I am typing and is just erratic.

I have this issue as well.  I am using a early 2008 macbook, 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo.  I usually am only typing on this computer for email.  I have tried both firefox and safari with the same issue.  I was initially hoping it was just a bug in the application, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

  • I am frustrated with how my cursor jumps around while typing.  How can I make the arrow follow the cursor so this doesn't happen?

Macbook Pro with OSX Yosemite:  I am frustrated that when using Word for Mac, the cursor keeps jumping around all over the page.  How can I make the pointer follow the cursor so this stops?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • G530 Keyboard problem, cursor jumps back while typing

This has been going on for a while. I will be typing and the cursor will jump back a bit and it will mess up what im typing. Also my touchpad sort of spazzes out now and then. Any help for this?  Im running Windows 7.

Hi, I have the same issue with my Y430 Laptop. Can you tell me what helped you to fix this issue?

  • Pavillion Dv7 7047-cl Laptop Touchpad jumping around after typing

The touchpad of my laptop has been messing up pretty badly recently. My laptop's touchpad will spontaneously jump around and randomly right/left click when I try to use it. This mainly happens after I finished typing something. The longer I use my Keyboard without using my touchpad, the longer my touchpad will go out of control. This does not affect usb mice, but if I continue to type with out using my touchpad, i can only type a few letters before my keyboard refuses to type. This is fixed after i move my touchpad, and next few letters of what I just typed will appear, sometimes stopping and repeating a letter, like thisssss. This works even I toggle the touchpad off with the button in the top left of the touchpad, so the pointer won't jump around but text will appear. I've searched my laptop for viruses, but didn't find any. Even typing this post has taken me over 10 minutes because of the on and off mouse -> type -> mouse -> type pattern. My driver is updated, and i've tried restarting my computer, but nothing works. Help!

    Try two things:
    1. Hard reset (remove battery and AC plug, hold down power button 30 seconds, wait 30 seconds, plug in power and restart) + go into BIOS (F10 as you power up) and restore default settings.
    2.  Try Touchfreeze or Touchpad Pal software. It disables the touchpad while you are typing:

  • Jumping cursor while typing, how can I stop it?

My cursor keeps jumping around when I type message. Whats wrong with my mac and how can I fix it? Please help!
All the keys are fine and everything else runing good, but whenever I type messages or a long message it just keeps jumping back like one word or two and I keep having to click back where I left off. It usually happens when I push the space bar. I'm not sure what the problem is. Should I just take it to the mac store?

Your keys could be dirty especially if you make it a habit of eating & drinking while using your computer.  A can of compressed air or a brushed vacuum hose will get the dirt out from under the keys.

    Matt,
    Thank you,
I have not seen the text jump while in the Safe Mode.
I believe you may have hit on the solution.
I'll do more typing of text, tomorrow.
Then, I will know for sure.
    Does look promising, though.
    I am pleased, so far.
    Thanks

  • Cursor jumps everywhere while typing causing text in random places

This never happened with my previous laptop so I wondered if I was leaning on the touchpad too much, I kept reducing the sensitiviy but this was making it useless.
I think though even thought I have made this post I might have fixed the problem as it hasn't happened once since I've written this post so just incase it helps anyone else:
Double click on the icon in the tray > Advanced tab > Advanced features settings > Settings on the bottom right > Tapping settings > Operations during key input. I checked this and left the slider in the middle for now. Then Applied and Okayed out of a million windowns. This SEEMS to have stopped it for now.
Hope it helps anyone else having the same problem, it's certainly stopped my cursor floating about the place while I'm typing. If anyone has any other ideas I'm happy to hear them too.

It's not as accurate as I'd like it to be, actually I tried the synaptics driver and it worked much nicer but didn't have a scroll function so I came back to Alps. There's a setting tucked away to stop the cursor from tapping while you're typing and that has done it for me.
Not as nice a touch pad as when I had my Equium, that scrolled perfectly, this seems to jump all over the place sometimes. Unfortunately some junkie's kid will have that laptop by now.

  • Why is artboard in AI CS5.1 jumping around while I draw?

I am on a Mac Pro, OSX 10.6.8, using Illustrator CS 5.1 (with latest updates).
    1) When I am drawing with the pen tool (just ordinary click, click, click-extend for a curve, etc.), each time I click, the artboard not only jumps to a new place, it zooms in or out. It also happens while I am moving a copy (holding the optiion key) of an object.
    2) Then sometimes when I Click, I get the flyout menu to undo point, so I lose that point. Sometimes two.
    3) Also, when I am zoomed in and moving an object to an exact point, the object jumps away from that point, like a magnet repelling the same pole. If I copy an object and paste Front or Back, that is fine, but when I move an object close to another object, it jumps away. I have reset the snapping tolerance several times, but I don't see any difference.
I have deleted ai prefs many times. I thought it might be my mouse prefs, but I changed those and see no difference. Fortunately, I usually work in CMYK, because the web presets are even more wacked out.
When the last update installed (automatically), there was a message that not everything was installed (or some variation of that).
Does this mean I am forced to upgrade to Lion?
Thank you to all the Gurus on Adobe. Your time is much appreciated.

I don't think that this has anything to do with AI per se. Sounds more like Spaces/ Exposé or whatever Apple choose to call it these days is trying tio interpret overlapping workspaces/ screen areas. I'd definitely chack those things and the monitor settings. Could even be that you have defined a secondfary monitor/ desktop there that causes this. As for updates we would need the pertinet logs, but generalyl this has nothing to do with what version of OSX you use but is caused by corruptions in Adobes own installer database and such...

  • Curser jumping around in Microsoft Word ONLY!!!

Ok I am using a desktop pc NOT a laptop. Every time I open Word to edit or create a document, my curser goes crazy!! I've read some of the solutions for this subject, but all of them were
for laptops! I did make some changes to the mouse with no luck! This is driving me completely nuts! Can some one pls help me?

You can also try opening it in safe mode to see if any addons are causing the problem. To do this, click
start and type winword /safe into the search bar. If everything operates perfectly in safe mode then follow these instructions:
    Click File menu, click
Options > Add-in, click Go button in the Manage: Com-in Add.Check if there is any addons, clear the checkbox to
    disable it.

  • Is anyone having trouble with the cursor jumping around since Lion was installed on your computer? Never happened until Lion.

Is anyone having trouble with the cursor jumping around while typing since you installed Lion? Never had any problems of that sort prior to Lion. I have an older machine. I believe it is a 2008 MacBook Pro. Especially happens with Yahoo. I am baffled.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.
