Curser moving randomly macpro 10.6.8 help

Do I have a virus or internal problem?

It is not likely that you have a virus.  Either the trackpad is faulty or the battery underneath it has swelled up.  Open the MBP and see if it is the battery.  In either case the best option is an Apple store genius bar appointment.
Ciao.

  • Comps moving randomly -update

I was very reliable informed that a large amount of programming effort had gone into eradicating the "comps moving randomly" bug for 8.0.1, and that the programmers were somewhat surprised that I'd managed to get it to happen within 1/2 an hour of installing the update - basically they thought they had it licked.
Two things come to mind - first, as i mentioned yesterday, I had recorded the tracks for comping while using 8.0 and then started comping after updating to 8.0.1. This is possibly a scenario that the programmers had not foreseen. I had also done some pretty wild tiny cut edits on the comp, just messing around. this could also have been a trigger. My guess is it's the former.
In any event, i've been comping for a few hours now with new tracks, recorded in 8.0.1. All is good at the moment, as I knock on wood and press save every 30 seconds.
If you are planning to comp tracks recorded with the old rev, it may be a good idea to do a "create new audio files from region" before you start - that might help, i guess.

Thanks letting us know! I only had this problem not during the recording and editing the comps but after I closed the session/song and Logic. After re-opening Logic the comps jumped sometimes 9 bars or so.. Is this still the case? I cannot test it now but I have a recording tommorow so I can test it then..
p.s. Love your tunes! If you don't mind I'll plug it right here and now http://www.malcolmpayne.com/

  • Macbook 13" 2009 shutting down when moved randomly and when finally able to turn back on time and date needs to be reset.. Help?

2 times in the last week when i have picked up my macbook to place beside me it has shut down, and takes a little while to turn back on, when it does turn on again the date and time needs to be reset and wifi password  needs to be re-entered as well..
I have no idea what is going on but i dont like it... any help would be great !!

That battery is relatively healthy, say relatively due to the high cycle count, the number of full charge cycles it has had.  The lower capacity simply reflects the high number of charge cycles and is not an issue, only a measure of how long the MacBook will work when running on battery power.  The voltage is right where it should be for a MacBook, in the range of 11.5 to 12.5 volts...12.3 volts is a strong battery.
Now to the auto-shutdown for lack of a better term - that sounds a lot like something loose inside the MacBook that when jarred shorts/shutsdown the sytem with a loss of basic information.  You could try things like an SMC reseet or PRAM reset but I seriously doubt they would have any affect.  Best option would be a visit to an Apple store genius bar to have the techs run some diagnostics to see if they can identify something going wrong inside.
Hope this helps and you can find resolution...auto shutdowns of this type are not really good for the system.

  • Firefox doesn't load pages without curser moving.

I have tried everything on fixing this problem, and it is still occurring. I have the latest version of Mozilla /Firefox and anytime I try to pull up a new page, it will not load without me moving the curser. It is a constant nuisance. Please help! I have cleaned my computer, I have uninstalled and reinstalled, and everything else I could think of. Many thanks.

hey, just to keep you updated - there is now a fix available for firefox 25, which should address the particular problem of pages not loading unless the mouse is moved.
if you have downgraded to firefox 24 to work around the issue, please go to firefox > options > advanced > update and turn automatic updates back on. then go to firefox > help > about firefox which should trigger the update to firefox 25.0.1.
in case you need to download the setup file for firefox 25.0.1 separately you can do so from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/channel/#firefox

  • ITunes won't open after moving to external HD...HELP please

Needed more room on my Mac HD so I moved iTunes to an external disc. That freed up a lot more space however iTunes won't open! I get error #13014. I downloaded a new version(9.1) onto my Mac and that one won't open.
Can anyone help me with this?
    thanks in advance!
    I'm running 10.6.3, MacPro

I moved the app and Library; I ended up removed all iTunes stuff(except) Library and reinstalled it. It now starts fresh....transferred stuff over however......I can't sync my iPhone...it says there another Library already synced....how do I know which one, I have a few(my fault).
Can I get these cleaned up somehow?
    thanks!

I disagree, hard drives are a mechanical moving device- heating and cooling, facing power surges. I've installed many versions of Mavericks but never had a problem but I am willing to spend an extra 5 minutes cleaning up the hard drive.
How many versions of Mavericks has there been? I have installed one. The only one I have ever seen. Then updated it twice. And never used Crapware like YASU or CleanMyMac or MacKeeper etc etc and have never had an issue. And i certainly would never recommend a program that even the developers say
"In the testing I’ve done using Yasu on Mavericks, it has performed well, so I believe it’s okay to use Yasu on Mac OS 10.9.x. Of course, I have to provide the disclaimer that I can’t guarantee 100% compatibility… If you decide to use Yasu on Mavericks, you’re doing it at your own risk."

  • Freezing iMac G5 with random red and black pixels, HELP!

Hello all, and thanks in advance for helping. Here's my dilemma: I have a 20" iMac G5 that I have been using for 2-3 years or so. I recently started doing less work on it, as I replaced it with a new 24" iMac, so now it is used for one or two programs as well as occasional internet use. The system began to become slower, then finally started freezing between minimal tasks, even something as simple as pressing TAB in Safari, to trying to make a new folder in iPhoto. We restarted a bunch of times, and even tried clearing the PRAM. Now, it freezes during the start-up and there's little red and black boxes (small, maybe 4x4 or 6x6 worth of pixels) appearing randomly on the screen. When we are able to get the system to start, after one or two small tasks (opening the Address Book, or starting Safari) the program freezes, the pinwheel starts spinning, and I lose any chance to do anything more on the computer without powering down. Any advice or suggestions is appreciated! Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi PPRI and Miriam,
Same deal going on here. It's been a while since I last posted - meaning no problems (which is goooood). So here is the issue:
Would stop at blue screen before loading to main screen. Minor repair on HD volume, and now freezes on main screen very quickly, after booting past blue screen. A few wierd pixels are seen, which lets me know that it has frozen.
    Here's what I did:
Hardware check with utility - no problems found, including logic board. From the manual, it seems like it is a software issue.
As before, I repaired a few permissions and minor repair on HD volume. Still not working.
Also opened up my vents and carefully vacuumed the dust - fans were spinning hard. Still, not working.
My next step is to do an archive & install. I'm not sure how to backup my files, so this will have to suffice. This leads me to my questions:
Q1 - How do you burn a backup, without an external HD and without being able to get past my main screen?
Q2 - I noticed a post before this one, concerning the same issue, with Miriam posting on it. Is it overkill to post the same problem/question in another thread in order to maximize the chances for a good response? Any suggestions Miriam?
Thank you for being so helpful. Apple community rocks!
(PS - will let you know how the archive/install goes. If it doesn't work, I may pay to back my files on disc, and then I'll try reformatting HD altogether. Again, will let you know how it goes).
(PS2 - Not sure if this matters, but my imac was one the ones that needed the free extended warranty for the capacitor issues - identified by the serial numbers. Doubt that's the problem since it was working fine after repairs).

  • Confused about Cinema 30" MacPro and Radeon x1900 help?

Hey guys, I'm just about to get the 30" monitor for my Macpro which is about 2 years old. I have the ATI radeon x1900xt card installed. I need help
    1) Will this card work with the monitor in its fullest resolution?
    2) Does the monitor come with that dual link dvi cable, or do I need to spend more money on something else to get the best resolution etc.??
    Thanks
    Mo

On that video card, both of the DVI outputs are dual-link, meaning it can support two 30" displays at full res, so no problem there.
As far as a dual-link DVI cable is concerned, every 30" monitor that I am familiar with ships with one, so you shouldn't need to buy a separate one. Whatever cable comes with the monitor will give the best resolution.

  • Satellite A505D Randomly Shuts off...help please

hi, i recently baught a Toshiba satellite A505D....recently it has started shutting off randomly...the screen will go black and briefly display a blue screen that says that it is shutting off to protect something in the computer...does anyone know why this happens, or how to fix the problem? thank you, any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
It would be very helpful if you can give the exact error message that the computer will give before it will shutdown. Anyways, things like this can also happen if the Operating System is being corrupted or the Hard Drive is not working properly. Try to let the computer run in safe mode for a couple of minutes and observe if the same thing will happen.
Press F2 upon starting up the computer. In the Advanced Boot Options page, use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit Enter key.
    Hope this will help...:-)

Thanks Kappy. I booted into Safe Mode and all seemed fine, no crashes. However, the crashes seem to be random and with varying frequency, some times it is fine for days others it is more regular. So I am unsure wether no crashes in safe mode was luck or not.
Anyway, booted up into my regular account this morning, and recieved another crash:

  • Moving Folders Version 2.  Please Help!

    Hello again,
Once again I need your help with the same script but I just need a little more help.  I'm an (very) amateur scripter and I'm still trying to grasp the fundementals.  This time I need your help, so that I can also move files as well as folders.  Here is my script so far, but it doesn't seem to be working.  Pretty much I want to make it so that if I click on Files it will do the same exact thing it does for folders, but with files.
    repeat
set theChoice to the button returned of (display dialog "Welcome to Cargo.  We make it easier to move multiple folders to a specific destination.  Would you like to move files or folders?" buttons {"Files", "Folders", "Cancel"})
              repeat
                        repeat
if theChoice is {"Folders"} then set srclist to choose folder with prompt "Choose the folder(s) you want to move" with multiple selections allowed
if theChoice is {"Folders"} then set dst to choose folder with prompt "Choose the destination folder"
if theChoice is {"Folders"} then if {dst} is in srclist then
display dialog "The destination cannot be in the source list."
                                  else
                                            exit repeat
                                  end if
                        end repeat
      --return {srclist, dst} -- for test
                        tell application "Finder"
      move srclist to dst
                        end tell
display dialog "Made by Connor Devlin.  If you find any bugs please contact me at [email protected].  If you liked this app share it with your friends.  ©McKeever Software."
              end repeat
    end repeat
Problem 1: Nothing seems to happen when I click run.
Problem 2: I'm not sure how to make it so that ONLY if you click Folders will it do the process to move folders.
Problem 3: I'm not sure how to make it so that ONLY if you click Files will it do the process to move files.
Problem 4: It does not seem to recognize the variable dst or srclist.
    I apprecaite all help

You seem to be stuck on using individual if..then statements instead of arranging your statements into logical groups (and the 'repeat forever' loops can get you into trouble as well).  In this case, if the choice is for files you aren't geting new source and destination choices (if you have already made the source and destination choices those will be used again, most likely resulting in a error).
The solution is to use the result of the first dialog to set whether the source items are files or folders, instead of that extra 'repeat forever' loop.
repeat -- forever (at least until canceled)
set theChoice to the button returned of (display dialog "Welcome to Cargo.  We make it easier to move multiple folders to a specific destination.  Would you like to move files or folders?" buttons {"Files", "Folders", "Cancel"})
         if theChoice is "Folders" then
set srclist to choose folder with prompt "Choose the folders you want to move" with multiple selections allowed
         else -- files
set srclist to choose file with prompt "Choose the files you want to move" with multiple selections allowed
         end if
         repeat -- until valid destination
set dst to choose folder with prompt "Choose the destination folder"
if dst is in srclist then
display dialog "The destination cannot be in the source list."
              else
                   exit repeat
              end if
         end repeat
         log "moving:"
         log srclist
         log "to:  " & dst
         tell application "Finder"
              move srclist to dst
         end tell
display dialog "Made by Connor Devlin.  If you find any bugs please contact me at [email protected].  If you liked this app share it with your friends.  ©McKeever Software." buttons {"Again", "OK"} cancel button "OK" default button 2
    end repeat
