Cursor ceases to respond when Photoshop is open.

Hi,
So, I've looked around for a while now online, hoping someone else has had this problem, but I've seen nothing that addresses it.
Problem:  When I open up Photoshop, my cursor stops responding to my stylus and just sits there like it wants a treat.  The cursor responds when Photoshop is closed, minimized, or not the selected window, but as soon as Photoshop is the selected window the cursor ceases to respond again.  It does, however, respond to the laptop mouse pad.  It also has this issue with Zbrush, but works fine with everything else on my computer.  This issue just randomly started one day (hadn't turned off the computer, only brought it back from sleep mode).
System specs:
Tablet Laptop: HP Elitebook 2760p
Driver: Wacom Tablet PC - Enhanced Graphics Driver 7.0.9-5
OS:  Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Service Pack 1, Fully up to date with Windows Update
Photoshop: CS5
Attempted solutions:
- First attempted a system restore, no luck.
- Next attempted to reinstall tablet driver, no change.
- Next attempted to install other versions of that driver and tried a few other drivers I had run across when trying to fix past problems.
- Reinstalled original driver.
- Uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop CS5
None of these attempts has born any fruit.  I checked to see if it was just Photoshop, but the issue also occurs in Zbrush.  However, it works fine with every other program.  I know that the driver I am using can be considered out of date, which is why I tried others.  I am using that driver because it was the only one that solved a problem I had previously which was photoshop not responding to pressure changes with the tablet.  Laptop came installed with a generic Wacom driver.
Hope somebody can help me out here.  Thanks for taking a look.

Photoshop can eat up a lot of free disk space on you disk you set as scratch disk in your photoshop preferences.  No Photoshop scratch files exist when Photoshop is not running. When Photoshop is up and running there will be scratch files written to temp space.  I have seen Photoshop use over 120GB of scratch space while only using 10GB of RAM leaving 20 to 30 GB of RAM free. When Photoshop is closed down all used RAM and Scratch space is returned to the system.  If you see Photoshop temp files in your system temp space when Photoshop is not up and running you should delete the temp files so the space is returned to you system.

Help. Photoshop CC14 on Mac 5k (2014) running Yosemite 10.10.1. Photoshop stops responding when I'm opening files, saving files or creating new ones. Is anyone suffering the same problem? Does anyone have an answer?

First, go install the MacOS 10.10 updates - you should be on 10.10.2.
I haven't heard of Photoshop not responding during opens and saves.  Does it stop responding while the open/save dialogs are visible, or while Photoshop is actually reading or writing files?
10.10.1 did fix a crash in the open/save dialogs, but 10.10.2 still has some odd issues (mostly program errors coming from the OS code) in the open/save dialogs.

  • Illustrator CS4 crashes when Photoshop is open

Hi, I have a problem with Illustrator CS4. Whenever I have Photoshop CS4 open at the same time as it, the program crashes completely, giving no error message to indicate why.
It runs totally fine as long as Photoshop isn't already open, or as long as you don't open Photoshop while it is still running. This is a nightmare when I want to draw certain things in Illustrator and then copy them over to Photoshop.
Anyone else experienced this or have any idea how to fix it?
    My system specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU [email protected]
    3.5gb Ram
    XP service pack 3

Opened up task manager as suggested before opening the programs, and noticed there were more processes running than expected. I ran Spybot Search & Destroy which seems to have picked up a few things ad-aware hadn't, and following a reset, the problem now seems to have disappeared.
Hopefully this is what was causing the problem and it isn't just pure chance that it is working ok for now...
    Cheers for the suggestions

  • Position cursor in text field when form is opened

    Another newbee question I'm afraid!
I want to position the cursor in a text field when a user opens the form. I can't find a way to do it but I'm pretty sure it's straightforward!
Also, can I remove fields from the tab order?
Thanks (for your help and patience!)

    Hi,
You would select the object that you want to receive focus and put the following in the docReady event.
    xfa.host.setFocus("this");
The docReady event is a good one to use, because it only fires once.
The tab order can be set in the Tab Order tab. Depending on the version of LC Designer that you have, the flexibility will vary. However I would do this as a last step, as any changes can throw the tab order out of sequence.
Note that tab order is greatly affected by the relevant x/y coordinates of objects and where objects are in separate subforms.
    Hope this helps,
    Niall

Try resetting your device. Hold down the sleep and home keys, past when you see the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.

  • Why does my computer crash to blue screen with message when Photoshop is open?

This happened 3-4 times when I was using the trial version and I wasn't sure which program from the trials that was doing it, but it started after I downloaded and used the Adobe Clound trials so I stopped using them. Eventually I went ahead and upgraded to the subcription and have been using Illustrator and Muse for a few days now and have not had a problem until today. I had Photoshop open and minimized, as well as Illustrator, and walked away from my desk. When I returned, the screen was blue with the Windows "shut down to prevent further damage" screen. I have a photo of the message. I realized that I had been using Photoshop the last few times this happened also. It never happened before I tried this software and stopped when I stopped using the trial.
I contacted support and chose to have someone call me back due to the wait. 15 minutes later, I got a call back from India and exlplained this. He got my phone number and asked me to hold while he got someone to help me. ONE HOUR AND 20 MINUTES later someone from India came on and I explained it all over again. He said he was going to check into it and 5 minutes later I was DISCONNECTED. No one called back and there is no option for Adobe, but to call back and start the process ALL OVER AGAIN. From what I see in these forums, it happens all the time and is serious problem with Adobe.I would never do business with a company with this type of horrible support and don't think I will continue my subscription with them. I am a graphic designer and do not have the time for computer crashes and support that does not care.

Thanks, Bill. Your response has been the most helpful. I have not yet tried the steps in your articles, but have a little more info that may help narrow it down. However, it has not happened for a couple weeks. I run a large CAD progam that also has never caused this issue.
The blue death screen occurs only when PS is open and when the computer goes to the screen saver. When I wake my screen this message is there:
"A problem has been detected an windows has been shut down to prevent further damage to your computer.
The problem seems to be caused by the following file: win32k.sys
    PAGE-FAULT-IN-NONPAGED-AREA
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. I this is a new installation, ask you hardware of software manufacturer fo any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable such components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

    ***  win32k.sys - Addre4ss BF8892C3 base at BF800000, DateStamp 4ff2f633"
    Beginning dump, blah blah blah.
After this happenend 2-3 time after installing the PS trial, it was obvious that it was the only software change I had made. I stopped using it and went back to using my PS4 and the blue screen never happened again...until I purchase my subscription and used it again. I don't know if any of this helps narrow down what I can test, but you have given me the most knowledgeable feedback. Thanks again.

  • Keynote not responding when trying to open Power Point downloads

I'm downloading power point presentations from my university website and trying to open them with Keynote. It starts to open it up then just stops about a third of the way through the progress bar. The activity monitor says that keynote is not responding. I tried restarting my MBP, but did not work, keynote seems to be working fine when I start it on its own, any help appreciated.

Come on, I'll try to help.
At first I confess that I also had trouble opening the files I had in Power Point. One of them even have 1500 slides. But in Power Point opens quickly, because most are text.
My solution: I opened the file in PowerPoint 2008 and saved it as "pptx". This is the latest version of pp. After I opened the keynote. The first time it takes to open and then gives some errors. It's just you solve, the error sources and images and save to "key" (keynote).
I think it is. At least for me it worked.
Sorry for English. I used a translator.

  • Droplet not running when Photoshop is open

    Hello all,
I created droplets for my photos but I have a problem with them. When I move files to the shortcuts while Photoshop is already open, nothing seems to happen. I have to close and re-open the program everytime I use the droplet shortcut for the action to take place. Why is it? How can I fix it?
    Thanks,
    A.

  • Garageband freezes (app not responding) when trying to open iTunes library

This is a new thing for me. When I open a new podcast episode, as soon as I try to access my iTunes library Garage band gives me the spinning ball and the media browser gives a Loading iTunes music sign and that is it.
I'm really stuck. Have tried repairing file permissions and deleting Garageband preferences but I'm stuck and I really really need to put a show together!

[In case this helps anyone else] The culprit was an avi of a DivX of an episode of Desperate Housewives (the wife.....) that I had tried to change the aspect ratio on to get to work with my new DivX dvd player using MPEG Streamclip. Who knew? Just removing that dumb file from My Movies causes everything to start working again.
    Thanks again

  • Logic Pro keeps (Not Responding) when launched or opening tracks...

Running logic Pro 7.2.1 on Power Mac G5 and using a Tascam FW-1884 control surface. During startup logic Pro hangs. Sometime if a song is opened via "Finder" it opens fine, but most times it just hangs. Also, not sure if this is related, but all logic pop-up window have this funky maroon color and its hard to read the text and button can't be seen at all.
    PLEASE help!!!!!! Production DOWN!
    -Chico

I had many problems with my Mac G5 2.7 refurb/Logic 7.2.1 when I first got it back in March. Although my problems were different than yours some things I remember doing that helped:
Trashing Logic's preferences fixed a situaution where my Logic windows were flashing randomly and Midi info was corrupted causing my Mackie Control Universal and my Korg Triton to freak out Logic.
Repairing disk permissions because 2 times Logic did not totally install correctly. Yes I reinstalled Logic at least 4 times to figure out why I was having freezeups system wide.
Working closely with Apple Care documenting my problems and finally getting my local Apple store in our local Mall to change out the motherboard, dual processors and optical drive. Yes essentially a new computer. Since that time I have not had one system wide freezeup (any wood around here)
    or major problem.
AT one point running the "Quick Test" from Apple's startup disc showed a Bad RAM chip. Again not related to you but running the test could show something.
I have 2 issues left to fix - Logic 7.2.1 for me has a transposition problem. Midi tracks will show up after I open a song file transposed down a step. The fix is to reboot Logic which is a pain. 2nd - Annoying beep coming from my power supply. Beep is audible in studio near the tower and is also in the audio chain coming out of speakers. No fix yet but again I'm working with Apple Care.

  • Attach to email function does not respond when Outlook is open.

We use Outlook 2010 and Adobe Reader 11.0.2. Our users export a report from our ERP system which converts it to PDF and opens in Adobe Reader. Our users then need to use the "Send file as email" function.
If Outlook is open whilst doing this the envelope button simply greys out for a couple of minutes and then become available again. If Outlook is closed it opens a new Outlook email and attaches the file as expected.
I've tested this on various PC's and various versions, down to 9.5, of Adobe Reader with the same result.
If you first save the file the function works fine.

You may just want to say Remove Email after X days. By not removing your email most carries restrict mailbox size and you will allow it to fill up and then stop newemails from arriving. so You may want to choose Remove emails after say 3 days this way you get it on the phone and on the PC. I run mine at 1 day but thats just me....
    Thanks

  • 'not responding' when another app opens

    iDVD 7.1.2
    OS 10.9.4
iDVD runs fine until another app is launched. Then it's 'not responding' and I've given it up to a half hour to recover.
Activity monitor says it's regularly over 100%.
    MacBook (Fall 2010).
    Tossed cache.db and plist.
    Other ideas please?

    Try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
    User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
    User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
It the above doesn't help Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try iDVD there.  Then reboot normally and try again.

  • Lots of programs does not respond, when opened

Lots of programs does not respond, when they are opened, Apple store, Mail, Photo Booth and VideoConverterPro and some moor.
To close, I have to click on finder first. What to do ?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
