Starting about a week ago, my cursor changes from an arrow to a 4-pointed star shape and moves erradically and won't scroll up or down.

Starting about a week ago, my cursor changes from a plain arrow to a 4-pointed star. It also moves by itself and I cannot control it. It makes it VERY hard to scroll up or down, and it stops scrolling every so often.

It is a while mow since I used XP, I do not remember a 4 pointed star option for the cursor.
*Is this only on Firefox?
If other programs are affected it is something to do with Windows XP or software installed on that.
If it is only on Firefox then as an initial step try in Firefox's safe mode with all plugins disabled. You may start safemode by using
* Help -> Restart with addons disabled

Drag and Drop Cursor changes - not working

I have fully implemented a working drag and drop Swing application, but I am running into problems with the cursor.
My application has some drop targets that set the cursor to DragSource.DefaultCopyNoDrop, and some that set it to DragSource.DefaultCopyDrop. The problem is once I change the cursor DefaultCopyDrop, I can never change it to NoDrop. I can however change it from NoDrop to Drop. I have tried it with jdk1.4 beta3 and rc.

I have tried using a null cursor in the startDrag method.

Hi, I also want to implement DND. I am using JRE1.3.1
I am also facing the cursor change problem. i have passed null in the startDrag method. This problem get solved to some extent, but still many times cursor is not changing. I have created my dragSource and drag Target
in the Constructor of my tree in a separate thread like

I am also facing 1 more proble, sometiems DND events are getting fired on navigating through the nodes, even though i am not dragging the node. And getting the Below exception some times

CS2 - why does my cursor change??

For some reason, sometimes when working in Photoshop CS2 (PC platform) my paintbrush cursor changes. I have it set in preferences to show the brush size and it usually stays that way, but occassionally, it reverts to precise mode so I cannot see the brush size on the screen. The only thing that seems to work is closing PS and restarting it. What a pain.
Has anybody had this problem, and if so, do you have an easy solution?

RollOver/MouseOver cursor change bug in external loaded swf

I have a master movie with navigation that loads a external swfs. The external swfs serve different purposes and typically have a series of buttons that navigate the timeline. The external movies with their buttons work fine running individually. When the movies are loaded through the master movie, the buttons in the external movies looses the cursor change on rollOver. These are basic invisible hotspot - button symbols. The buttons typically navigated to different frames. I am curious why the cursor change fails when loaded through the main movie, but works when run on its own.
I have done some searching in Google, but didn't find a similar issue. Any ideas? Throughout all the movies, I probably have over 200 buttons, I don't want to create rollOver and rollOut cursor changes for each. Again, these are basic button symbols.
Any clues?

Actually, the some of the external movies were created with InDesign - which is the worst application for developing Flash content with.

[Gnome] Cursor changes when it overrides qt applications

I use gnome desktop on Archlinux x86_64.
I noticed that sometimes when I pass my mouse over qt applications (like skype, smplayer, qtiplot,...) the cursor changes and it becomes the gnome default cursor. When I move my cursor over the desktop it returns what I have chosen.
I tried changing to other cursors but the result doesn't change.

maybe edit:
/usr/share/icons/default/index.theme
have it read:
[Icon Theme]
Inherits=ATER-yellow
Same to local icons as well:
~/.icons/defaults/index.theme
I think what is happening is that the system reverts to default and doesn't know what the default is... if you specify maybe it will work.

Cursor changes to a coloured revolving circle

Sometimes when I change to different web sites or If I am on a page the cursor changes to a revolving circle with rainbow colouring and I can not do anything till it changes back to a normal cursor. This varies in seconds. Hi can here the hard disk working at this time.
What causes this and how can I stop it happening

That usually happens when you are running low on memory. Restart the computer and Monitor your memory usage in your Activity Monitor. If you start to get a lot of "page outs," that's a clue you are running low. Also, how full is your hard drive? You need to have at least 10% of it free for virtual memory to work efficiently.

My cursor changed to a crosshead

I run an apache server (for website develpment) on my MacBook Pro late 2008 runnning mountain lion and I tried to change the permission to be able to run a PHP mkdir() function. I read a lot of posts on internet saying that I needed to go in the terminal to change something... So I entered the command line : sudo chmod 775 /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs...
Now, I still cannot run the mkdir() function and my cursor changed for a crosshair, but sometimes the real cursor flashes 1 second and than the crosshair comes back...

Changing the permissions on that file will not cause any obvious changes to your Mac. Only when you go to execute that file, it may actually open instead of whatever it was doing before.
That would have no impact on the mkdir() function, unless you were making directories in the directory whose permissions you changed.
Having the cursor change to a crosshair is pretty bizarre.
It sounds like you are having to do a lot of heavy lifting just to get the tools to go. Have you considered running Mac OS X Server? I run 10.6. Server, and it includes Apache.

Spry menu bar submenu disappears when cursor changes

Hello.
I've been working with a spry menu bar for some time, but when I expand the submenu and then move the cursor over some text on the page (where the sub-menu is on top of), the submenu disappears. In other words, it seems that when the cursor changes from a pointer to a text cursor, the submenu disappears.
Can anyone tell me how to prevent that from happening?

If you put your test page and all dependent files online, and post a link here, we will gladly check that:
    Your server is working
    That all required HTML code is correct
    That your folder hierarchy is correct
    That all required dependent files (HTML, CSS, JS, Images etc.) are uploaded to proper folders
    That Javascript Versions are correct
    That link paths are all correct and case sensitive
Sounds like your submenus may be positioned with a small gap from your top-level links

Creating Link to New Window with Defined Size and Cursor Change

I seem to be having a problem having a hot-spot link open a new window and perform the way I want it to. I have tried a few different ways of going about this, as described below:
The first method when defining the hot spot was to use the properties menu provided at the bottom of Dreamweaver when I click on the hot spot. When I test the page, the cursor changes to a hand and I can open the link in a new window BUT I cannot define the width and height of the new window.
The second method was after defining the hot spot, using the behaviors menu from the tag inspector. From here, I would add an Open Browser Window behavior using the onClick event. Here, I can open the new window in a pre-defined width and height BUT when I test the page, the cursor does not change to a hand. It just remains the standard arrow.
The question is, how I can define the hot spot to where the mouse will change to a hand when I scroll over it AND when the window opens, it is set to the width and height I want to define?

I tried placing the cursor script into the code without success. Either I'm not applying it correctly or it could be that the code in use is a combination of html and Java scripting.
Right now, I converted all of the image maps to the behaviors technique because I need the specific window sizes for the application that is being created. Steve, I am using DW CS4, and a sample of the code is provided below:

Why the cursor changes only after moving the mouse?

I have used the setCursor() on a JInternalFrame to change the image of the cursor. I change the cursor to Cursor.WAIT_CURSOR and back to Cursor.DEFAULT_CURSOR in a new thread. Then the only way for the cursor to change from WAIT to DEFAULT is to move the mouse, otherwise it will remain in WAIT status. What's going wrong?

I am using version 1.1.2 in JBuilder1. I have an extended Dialog as an interface to change the Oracle Password. When the OK button is selected to complete the process of accessing the DB to make the change, I change cursor to the wait cursor before the DB is accessed. I have to move the mouse to trigger the cursor change to wait. I would think there would be an efficient way to do this. I would also appreciat some help. I'm not sure if this is a problem in later versions.

IDVD - cursor change on button mouseover?

I'm creating a dvd with hidden "easter eggs" - buttons with no text and no image that you have to click on to access. It would make them easier to find if I could make the cursor change when they are hovered over - does anyone know if this is possible or if there's a plug in I need?

There is one way to do it - create a button with either a symbol or text, and make it the same colour as the background. Obviously this works only if you have a background with solid colours on it.
The button (text or symbol) will still be highlighted with your selected highlight colour when you "mouseover".
I don't think you can create a button containing an invisible character (such as a non-breaking space) but I've never tried it. If this worked, the button would never be visible, selected or unselected, but would still navigate.

[SOLVED]Mouse cursor changes between applications

Hi, everyone this thing is driving me crazy. I'm still searching for some good solution for this.
When i move the mouse cursor over a kde or java application (using gnome) the cursor changes to the system default, that black ugly thing. I know there is a way to do it by changing the default cursor theme, but when i do it kde and java applications don't launch. Someone please explain this on easy words, or some other solution please!

Try to set Xcursor theme in ~/.Xdefaults
$ grep Xcursor ~/.Xdefaults
Xcursor.theme: Neutral_Plus
Works for me in DWM
