This happens on MAC OS Lion X on Firefox (not Safari). I never noticed this on PC in any browser. Can anyone help me?

Update: '''It works fine when I selected private browsing in Firefox.'''
'''So, what might be the cause?''' Many people experience this issue because website above is publicly available theme. This is absolutely fresh installation of Firefox on absolutely fresh MAC OS X Lion 10.7.3. No plugins installed.

  • My cursor disappears, and now Photoshop crashes in Mountain Lion

Apple, apple, apple! PLEASE fix the obvious bugs in Mountain Lion. I am a professional using Photoshop on a Mac for the last 20 years, and now your operating system has me and MANY OTHERS in despair becasue we can't work. Lots of professionals in despair on the Adobe site.
Adobe has built to your specs, and now you have bugs. Please fix them as a matter of priority. Apparently buying the newest Photoshop - CS6 - doesn't fix this either.
    1. Cursor disappears when using brushes, and changing the size of the brush. This persistent problem makes it impossible to work with brushes - like a moron is stealing your bursh every minute, rendering it invisible.
    2. Upon deleting my Photoshop preferences, it was briefly fixed, then returned.
    3. I tired uninstalling , then shutting down and restarting, then reinstalling Photoshop - now the whole program crashes - apparently I have discovered ANOTHER known bug in Mountian Lion. Here's a quote from an Adobe employee - at least they will talk to me -
"that's another issue -- and a bug in the OS code It was trying to draw a control, and failed when it tried to get the font size information -- we've seen that OS bug before, but I didn't realize it was still a problem in 10.8."
So now my 1,000 dollar software is rendered useless on the OS I just paid for.
Not good enough Apple. This is your sutuff up, you should fix this as a matter of urgency.

apple, please listen and fix these issues or give us back Snow Leopard.
You can go back to Snow Leopard if you wish. It is still available. Adobe are responsible for their own products and compatability, Apple are responsible for theirs. In saying that, I have had no issues with Adobe CS4 or 5 nor 6 with either Lion nor Mountain Lion. Perhaps you need to uninstall CS and reinstall.

  • Since installing Mac Mavericks all my friends with Macs and I have problems with the cursor disappearing, only in Firefox, Safari is fine...

I have stopped using Firefox as nothing I have done has fixed this problem. I have tried shutting down Firefox and rebooting it, I cleared all my add-ons and then added adblock back (that's the only one) but it still doesn't work. I've deleted large files so that I have more space - I can't think of anything else that will work. I have spoken to four of my friends with Macs and they are all having the same problem with Firefox since Mavericks.

Hi thanks very much for your reply. I did a few things like delete my add-ons and I don't have the problem of the disappearing cursor (sounds like a Sherlock Holmes story) any more but it seems to have been a mac issue as there were many complaints on the Apple forums of the cursor disappearing since the Mavericks OS and not just in Firefox but in multiple programs. Looks like they've fixed it somehow!

  • Word 2011 for Mac Book pro - I have found that my cursor disappears sometimes when I click on a toolbar function. I found out it is a bug, that the Mac loses 'focus'. I can correct it temporarily by clicking on Format - Font - Cancel. Any info?

I have Word 2011 on a Mac Book Pro and have had problems with a dissapearing cursor - it makes editing tricky
After googling it I found out that there is a bug where the Mac loses focus if you click away from the document - it also does this with italics according to other users.
I had a play with it and found out that when I click on the toolbar in a document where this happens, the cursor disappears, e.g. changing font colour etc. And then, when I click on Format - Font - Cancel it returns
I'd be interested if anyone else has a comment to add, please do
    thanks

BTW (speaking as a Dad of 3 daughters in Grad school) if you don't already have and use a DropBox account, or some other similar online "cloud" based backup of your school documents, you should start doing so immediately. By keeping all of your important documents in the Dropbox folder on your computer, you have instant access to them from any other computer (or iPad), should you be w/o your computer while in for repairs (or if, God forbid, it is stolen). It's free for 2 GB of online storage, which is more than enough for a few years worth of Word documents, etc. (If you get other people to sign up via your email "invitation", then Dropbox gives you even more free storage space.) Every time you close a document, it is updated on the Dropbox servers (encrypted), if it is in the Dropbox folder (assuming you give it a few seconds to update before turning off your computer). Do a google search of "Cloud based storage comparisons" to compare the amount of free space each of the competing services give you.

The trash remains empty, yet the pic is gone, and I never even emptied the trash (because it never made it to the trash)! How to recover the album I just accidently made disappear in this way?

Sorry - there have been no updates to that system for a long time
Try to backup your iPhoto library and lanch iPhoto while holding the option and cannoned keys down - repair permissions and if needed rebuild the database

  • Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 briefly recognizes my nano iPod and then it disappears

My Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 briefly recognizes my nano iPod and then it disappears from my desktop and devices list, subsequently iTunes doesn't not recognize or sync with my nano iPod, what should I do?

There were a few suggestions that you did not clarify (if you tried them or not).  At this point (based on what you have stated), the problem could be on the iPod or it could be the USB connection to the Mac.  It could also be the USB docking cable, but since it connects initially, it is probably OK.  You should rule out a problem with the USB port on the Mac.
I suggested shutting down (powering off) the Mac.  Did you do that, and then start it back up?  If the Mac is a MacBook, you may need to do more because it has a battery.
I suggested disconnecting all other USB device (except for standard keyboard and mouse if used), and connecting the iPod to a direct USB port on the Mac (by itself).  Did you do that?
You can also try connecting another device, preferably something similar like a USB flash drive, to the USB port you used with the iPod, to confirm the same thing does not happen and it works properly.  Does it connect and stay connected?
Those steps will help confirm that problem is not the USB connection (on the Mac side).
To do a Restore, it needs to have a stable connection, so that the iPod appears in iTunes.  When you select the iPod in iTunes, the screen that appears is the iPod's Summary screen.  But if the iPod does not stay connected in Disk Mode, doing a Restore will not help.  In Disk Mode, the iPod should act like it is a storage device.
Try this...  Connect the iPod.  Instead of running iTunes (quit iTunes if running), run Disk Utility.  Does the iPod's disk appear in the Disk Utility sidebar?

  • Mouse cursor disappears sometimes on Firefox for Mac

Sometimes, only when Firefox is open, the mouse cursor disappears. I can still click, but the cursor is invisible.

  • Cursor Disappears

Mac Pro running Mountain Lion & Photoshop CS5. Gotta say Mountain Lion seems to have its share of bugs. Here's one: Working away in Photoshop CS5, when I suddenly want to look at a web page, check email, etc. The cursor disappears the instant it leaves Photoshop and is invisible over the Finder, desktop, and all other apps. Only way to get it back is to Command+Tab thru the application switcher. Pathetic.

The tech called seconds after I hit the send button on the website.  Apprerently they haven't heard of the issue and had him Google the problem. Luckily my cursor disappeared as I was speaking with him.  Had me zap Pram (reboot holding Command-Option PR) and then rebooted in safe mode (holding shift) played around for a while but couldn't get the cursor to disappear.  Then booted normal and stayed on the line for a good while to see if it would happen again. We ended up disconnecting and calling back if or when it reoccurs and go from there...

  • Cursor disappears on macbook pro windows 8.1

I have a MacBook Pro running Windows 8.1.  Over the past few weeks, while doing work (email, Word, Powerpoint  - basic office work), the cursor would disappear.  I would need to restart the computer for the cursor to reappear.  Today, the cursor has disappeared and I can't get it back with a restart.  I have read many posts on disappearing cursors but none seem to fix my problem.  All other functions (as far as I can tell) are functioning.  I am using the trackpad.  All features work except for the ability to see the cursor.  I have tried the following:
    1. Restart
    2. Power off / on
    3. Looking for additional microsoft updates and updating.
    4. Removing updates that have installed in the past 5 days
    5. Removing update KB2919355 (It wouldn't let me so it reinstalled it)
    6. Mouse settings - I tried changing scheme, size etc - no change.  I was able to select within Mouse Properties - Press CNTRL to see Mouse - this works.  When I press the control button - it shows me a target of where the cursor is but it doesn't show the cursor - WORKAROUND.
    7. Added a mouse - it connected, made a sound as it connected but same situation as cursor - functional but can't see the cursor
    8. Went to MSconfig and tried booting in Diagnostic set up - CURSOR REAPPEARED - but no idea which app is causing the problem.
    9. I went back to MS Config and did normal mode - cursor disappeared at restart  and disabled all the start up apps and restarted - still no cursor.
    10. I pressed all the FN+F1, f2,f3 etc. - no change
    11. I checked to make sure I was only using 1 screen (and not extending my screen).
I have an appointment at the Genius bar on Monday but there has to be an easy fix to this.  Any ideas?

Additional Info - after working on this problem for 4 hours, I shut my laptop in frustration and took a break.  1 hour later I opened my mac and the cursor had magically returned.  No restart, no power on/off - nothing.  Frustration.  If anyone else has had this happen and has actually fixed the problem let me know. I'm sure it will reoccur.

  • Mac OS X Lion freezes

    Hi,
Since I've upgraded to Lion I have problems with Mac OS X Lion(10.7.2) and same problems occurred with previous versions of Lion.
I was thinking that it was a problem with Microsoft's RDC but it still freezes without this application being started.
So, I have upgraded all of the possible software for my MacBookPRO
    15" - Early 2011, i7 2.2, 8GB ram, AMD Radeon HD 6750M / 1GB, 512Apple SSD
Still it freezes, and I have narrowed the applications to (at least those were running all the time when it is happening)
    Safari, Firefox, Microsoft Office Outlook.
Thing here is that in the beginning I can switch between applications, but as soon as I try to quit them all apps are having status (Not responsive) from the Force Quit menu.
Only thing I can do is moving my cursor.
It never happened that it freezes too.
Any help/suggestions would be more than welcome
    Thanks!

I had a terrible time with Lion freezing on me multiple times per day, until....
Last Saturday (Feb. 11, 2012) I made sure my HD was backed up in Time Capsule on my brand new LaCie 500GB storage device.  For good measure I also cloned the HD using Carbon Copy Cloner                                    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/7032/carbon-copy-cloner
but I did not need to use it.
Then I started up from my old copy of Snow Leopard in order to access Disk Utility from it (Hold "C"; Restart).   I completely erased the HD on my iMac using Disk Utility then reinstalled the latest backup from Time Machine  (I did not install Snow Leopard). Ever since then I have had no problems with freezing.  I guess it could be a fluke but so far, so good.  Websites also seem to load a lot faster now.
I also got rid of Perian.  Wheather that had anything to do with it, i don't know.  I only did it because someone else in these forums suggested it.
    BTW,
I had Sophos for a while but deleted it last fall and replaced it with ClamX-AV.  This was on the advice of my local Mac store.  Apparently Sophos can really gum things up.

  • Mac OS X Lion freezes often in help related activities

Hello, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 freezes often on my 13-inch, Mid 2009 MacBook Pro. It seems it's (almost) always related to some activities with help system - it mostly happens when I use search input field in Help menu of any application or sometimes if system help viewer is opened.
The freeze is little bit strange. Typical symptoms are
mouse doesn't freeze, but cursor changes to spinning wheel when it's placed over application which caused freeze
frozen application doesn't respond to any input
it's possible to switch to another application with mouse or keyboard shortcut
any other application appears to be working correctly (mouse cursor is not spinning wheel at least), but UI interactions (with mouse or keyboard) get it to the same state as described above
applications can't be forced to quit, even with keyboard shortcut
finally, all applications and OS X freezes, mouse cursor still moves (even using Magic mouse), but nothing works anymore. Only solution is to switch MacBook off and on
I tried to delete Caches/* in /Library and ~/Library, but it didn't help. My MacBook is upgraded to 8 GB RAM with Kingston DDR3 modules (choosed via Kingston compatibility tool) and Kingston SSDNow V200 Series 256GB SSD disk (trim enabled with Trim Enabler). Crashes are probably not related to RAM upgrade, but it may relate with SSD installation (but I'm not sure when they appeared first).
Freezes almost don't happen in other situations than described.
Any ideas what could cause these problems? Thank you.

I am having similar problem with my machine, a Mac Pro (1,1) with Kingston V200 256GB SSD installed. It is fairly random when it chooses to freeze up, and you described it exactly-- I can still move the mouse and select programs, but nothing is happening, requiring me to do a hard reboot. I have noticed the past few instances it seems the trigger might have been an unattended alert box from Apple Mail (asking for a password) which I didn't see until getting home from work, so it could have been sitting there for hours. Not addressing the alert box holds up all the other Mail processes and I guess it just snowballs (?)
Anyways, I'm thinking the problem is this particular Kingston SSD (the V200). I have another Kingston SSD (the SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2/128GB) which I was using as the boot drive and it has worked flawlessly since I installed it. Later, I got a good deal on the V200 and decided to use it as a secondary drive to hold my working data, for things such as my huge iPhoto library file. Not long after installing the V200 I noticed the problems starting, and after a lot of troubleshooting I noticed this pattern with iPhoto:
If I had just booted up and was using the computer actively and then launched iPhoto, everything was fine. If the computer went idle for a while and then I launched iPhoto, I would get an error about it not being able to write to the iPhoto library (remember the library was housed on the V200). After many trial and errors I found that the solution to this was to use Disk Utility and unmount the V200 (sometimes having to force eject it), then remount it, and then I could run iPhoto fine.
And then of course there were times when I was just trying to browse the V200 in the Finder and it would cause the system freeze as described above. It seems like the drive somehow goes to sleep and then you just can't get it to wake up and it causes all sorts of problem. Whenever I have to hard reboot I run FSCK in single user mode, and I've been getting this error notice a lot:
    AppleAHCIDiskQueueManager::setPowerState(0x1c7b1600, 1 ->2) timed out after 100892 ms
    SATA WARNING: Enable auto-activate failed.
However, it will finish the disk check and say the disk is OK, with that "File System was Modified" note. Then when I run the check again it goes through with no problems.
I ended up doing a warranty exchange with Kingston and got a new replacement drive (as opposed to them refurbishing the drive I sent in). I am now using the new V200 as the boot drive, which is turning out to be a bad idea, but I kind of wanted to test it out.
I read on this forum that it might have been my Icy Dock adapter case, which is used to fit the SSD into the Mac Pro hard drive sled, perhaps a faulty case causing the problems. But when I installed the replacement drive I nixed the Icy Dock and have it directly connected, and the problems still remain. I had used TRIM enabler at one point but turned it off long ago to troubleshoot, so I don't think that affects this problem.
Incidently, while I was waiting for Kingston to send back the replacement V200, I was using an external firewire drive in its place as a secondary data drive (ie. the drive housing my iPhoto library) and never had any problems or freezes.
So that's my woes. I can't pinpoint it exactly or definitively but the evidence I have points to something screwy with this particular Kingston SSD model. I am going to contact them again and see about returning it for a refund. If anyone has any helpful information or insight I'd appreciate the info.
