Cursor freezes after site change Mavericks

My cursor freezes for various amounts of time since downloading Mavericks. Any body else as I'm going to talk to Apple support under Apple care and they tell me no one else has this problem.

I had the same problem. I have found a work around - sort of. I have unchecked the option to "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" (System Preferences / Bluetooth / Advanced). I no longer have the problem. Having to wake the computer another way (I have a USB wireless mouse so no problem for me) and waiting a second or two for the bluetooth devices to connect is less annoying than continually losing trackpad connection. I hope that helps you too.

  • I am also having trouble with my cursor freezing after installing Mavericks. Never did it before. I called tech support at Apple and they had me restart computer and mouse together from a complete shut down. So far has seemed to work.

I am having trouble with my cursor freezing between applications after installing Mavericks. Called Apple on my 3 year warranty and opened a case. They suggested a complete shut down of computer and turning off mouse. Then a reboot and turn on mouse. So far iit has seemed to work. Hope this continues??
    Hope it helps others.

I think you can solve your problems by removing your AppleID email address from BOTH the Messages setting on your iPhone and the iMessages settings on your Mac.
    On iPhone:
    Settings > Messages > iMessage > Dissabled
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > touch the "(i)" < touch "Remove This Email"
    On Mac:
    Open "Messages" application
    Click "Messages menu > Preferences
    Click "Accounts"
    Select your AppleID account
Under the "You can be reached for messages at" settings, uncheck your AppleID email address and your phone number
Then uncheck the "Enable this account" setting
And lastly, ask all of your friends with iPhones to delete all iMessage conversations (blue bubbles) in their entirety.
To test, send a friend a new text using their phone number (not their email address) and watch the color of the bubble.  If it's green then you are using SMS.

  • My iMac freezes after installation of Mavericks

My iMac set. with the new Mavericks has started freezing, or going into sleep mode, and will not wake up.  I have to hold the power button in for about ten seconds to force it to close down, wait a few seconds, the press power button again and it will boot normally.
It will sometimes just freeze the screen, and other times go to a blank screen.  Nothing will wake it up.
    <Personal Information Edited by Host>

I have had consistent freezes after my MBP (15 in 2.4/2.2 GHz) goes to sleep since I installed Mavericks.  When it's frozen, the fan is going hard, but nothing will wake it up -- not mouse motion, key presses (including "force quit" chord), closing and opening lid, etc.  I have to force a shutdown with the power button, and restart it.
The only thing I've found to prevent the freeze is to prevent going to sleep.  There's nothing that I recognize as suspicious in the console log.  I've reinstalled Mavericks, I've fixed permissions, I've repaired the hard drive, I've removed plugins.  I don't know what else to try.  So I'm looking for suggestions, please!

  • MacBook Pro (mid 2007) freezes after upgrade to Mavericks

    Hello,
After the upgrade to Mavericks my MacBook Pro (mid 2007) freezes after a couple of minutes of usage - after successful install and the use of some apps. Not bad enough the system is now always crashing if I try to boot. PM reset didn't help. Booting from the restore partition was possible, but I decided to go back to a working backup of 10.8.4 made a minute before I tried to upgrade. Why 10.8.4? Because 10.8.5 causes the strange problem that the Mac freezes after wake up from sleep.
    Any suggestions?
    Anyone else having this problem?
    Kind regards

I did a clean install of mavericks on my MBP (mid 2007) and still it freezes at arbitary points. The very first time when it booted up it worked for longer and when I started to apply updates from app store, it froze. Successive boots froze much early, like within few seconds of booting.
I am going to check this by booting in safe mode.  I am losing hope with mavericks on my MBP (mid 2007) and will switch back to snow leopard (10.6.8) which was working seemless.
I checked so many things, based on other posts to make sure if my MBP is really Mid 2007. IT IS.
    Rgds,
    Raj.

my 1 year old macbook pro keeps freezing after i updated from mountain lion to maverick.
all the time i had mountain lion i can remember maybe once where my mac froze. now, it froze probably 5 times in the last 5 days.

  • ITunes freezes after any change in Preferences

After any change in Preferences, I get a message saying "WindowsMobileDeviceApp has stopped working", and then iTunes freezes. I have tried reinstalling iTunes as a repair, but it didn't work. Any ideas?

I don't have an answer to this, but a couple of things you might try.
If you don't have an iPhone it is OK to uninstall the Mobile Divices Support program. I've uninstalled mine with out problems. You can put it back any time by doing a repair install of iTunes.
The other thing you might try is to delete your preference files in case they have got corrupted. This takes you back to how you were when you first installed iTunes. If you have any special prefernces they will be lost, so make note of them.
You may need to make hidden files visible
    My Documents>Tools>Folder Options>View
Check Show hidden files and folders
    -- Quit iTunes
    -- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml
    -- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml
For Vista the files are in:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes

  • Problems freezing after update to Mavericks 10.9.5

I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro. all was fine until i clicked the button to update to Mavericks 10.9.5 (and I think there was another update too). Everything froze, the touchpad didn't work,.. nothing. Force quit did nothing. I closed lid - but later when I lifted it, it was all still frozen and I resorted to pressing and holding the on/off button.
I've spent the last 24 hours trying different things - sometimes when it freezes, the laptop seems to think the edge of the screen is in the middle (i.e. keep taking the mouse left and it appears on the right of the screen), and also I am getting funny lines and dots on the screen (is it possible it's my graphics??) and the cursor changes to a funny vertical dotted line.
I tried starting it in safe mode - it got to the log in screen with loads of lines etc. on the screen, but I persevered as I had heard it would produce diagnostics.... anyway I ended up with a blue screen with black lines down it. Eventually I pressed the on/off button again.... so safe mode is not working... (I think.. unless I didn't wait long enough?)
As suggested on here, I went into the library and have now dragged the caches folder onto the desktop, and I am waiting to see if my laptop freezes again. This appears to have copied the folder onto my desktop, rather than moved it - is that right?
Today I have also removed 300GB of photos, as I was down to my last 19GB - just in case that was the problem, but it has frozen since, so I'm guessing not. I have 16GB RAM so that shouldn't be a problem.
I'm fairly new to Mac. I haven't encountered any error codes, just screen freezes and odd graphics. I haven't been able to find where the diagnostics are to run. When it freezes, it gets very hot, so I have been pressing the on/off button and letting it cool off.
I'm still awaiting to see if it happens again, but I wondered has anyone else experienced anything similar or does anyone have any advice. Any advice gratefully received!

Boot into the Recovery Drive by holding down Command R when restarting.
Run Repair Drive and Repair Permissions using Disk Utility in Recovery.
Restart and run the combo updater.
OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 Update (Combo)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1760
However, you might need to reinstall OS X in the Recovery Drive. This process should not damage your data but it's always advised that you backup first.
If you don't have a clone backup it's time to start. Just like a seat belt and an air bag protect you in different ways when driving, you need both Time Machine and a clone for full protection.
Both of these applications can be used to create a clone. You will need an external drive to backup your data.

    CCC http://www.bombich.com/download.html
Free space: It suggested you have a minimum of 10% free but this can vary depending on the size of the drive. When you get below 10GB free you need to start moving files off the drive.
You can keep your iPhoto and iTunes Libraries on an external drive. Hold down the option key when launching the app to point to the new library location.

I run GPUSniffer, and Adobe Premiere Recognize my new VideoCard
    I need some help

Did you remove your old driver and install a new driver?
•For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information

  • Does your cursor freeze after pressing any key?

After using my MBP for an hour or so the mouse freezes (and or disappears) when I try to move it.
This can be duplicated by pressing any key while in Safari or the desktop.
It is not happening now while I type.
But it will occur if I leave this text box.
I tried to disabling LazyMouse and the issue remains.
This began after disabling Caps Lock in the Keyboard and Mouse Preference Pane. But re-activating it has not solved the issue.
I am not running any other suspicious SW.
It will work again after a few attempts (7-10 sec) on the trackpad.
    Thanks ... Ken

Maybe unselecting "ignore accidental trackpad input" (or something similar, my mac os is not english) in the keyboard-preferences helps. When you have that turned on, the cursor will not react while you are typing. Maybe your mouse is incompatible with that function or something. What kind of mouse do you use?

  • FCP Freezes after sitting idle then coming back to it

About a month ago, I reformatted my hard drive on my macbook pro and did a clean install of my FCP software (v6). I also got a new external hard drive (Seagate Freeagent Desk for Mac 2 TB, FW800) where I keep all my footage I'm working with. Since then, I've started experiencing a problem I've never had before... often I'll have FCP open, then open up a browser window to write emails or whatever. But then when I try to go back to FCP, it freezes and I get the spinning beachball. From that point, I have to force restart the computer to re-open FCP, because FCP won't fully quit once that's happened. If I just force quit, it goes away from the screen, but the dot on the dock is still there, and it won't reopen.
This definitely only started happening after I reformatted my HD, but I also got the the new hard drive at the same time... I thought at first it was the Hard Drive not waking up, but I returned the HD for a new one, and it's still doing it. So based on that, it seems like it must be an issue with the macbook. Weird thing is though... it doesn't seem to happen when older hard drives are plugged in, ones that I had before I reformatted my hard drive.
No idea what to do at this point...

I agree, sounds like disc sleeping problems with that drive, found this in a quick search

  • Magic Trackpad freezes after batteries changed

The past few times my Magic Trackpad batteries have needed replacing, it loses its bluetooth connection and cannot be found.  The only way I can get things going again is to shut down my iMac with the power button and restart.  I believe this has only been an issue since I installed Lion.  Any ideas on how to fix this annoying behavior?  I'm using Apple's rechargeable batteries.

Yes!  I did that and then removed and replaced my Trackpad batteries and here I am again, with everything working.  I may even notice a few other positive changes.

  • Live stream freezes after bitrate change : Audio remains

I've setup a very simple OSMF test player but there appears to be an issue when certain bitrate switches occur with no errors. The video just feezes, but you can still hear audio in the background.
    Some details:
    - We're currently using OSMF 2.0, and the Flex 4.9.1 sdk and streaming an rtmpt stream.
    - For the encoding, the keyframes are 3 seconds apart
    - It appears that setting the buffertime above 4 seconds will sometimes make the issue even worse
    Encode settings:
    Stream 1 640x360    1000 kbps 30fps 3s kf  96 kbps audio
    Stream 2 640x360    700 kbps 30fps  3s kf  64 kbps audio
    Stream 3 640x360    440 kbps 15fps  3s kf  64 kbps audio
    Stream 4 320x180    240 kbps 15fps  3s kf  32 kbps audio
It appears that when we play the stream through an ooyala player (which does not seem to use OSMF), these issues go away.
Here is a very bare bones implimentation we're using to isolate the issue:
    http://pastebin.com/esWNCEfr
I was able to replicate the issue only once using the player at OSMF.org:
    http://osmf.org/dev/2.0gm/debug.html?src=
Here are the sequence of onNetStatus events when it freezes:
    ***** onNetStatus ****** :NetStream.Play.Reset
    ***** onNetStatus ****** :NetStream.Play.Start
    ***** onNetStatus ****** :NetStream.Buffer.Full
    ***** onNetStatus ****** :NetStream.Buffer.Empty
    ***** onNetStatus ****** :NetStream.Play.Transition
    ***** onNetStatus ****** :NetStream.Buffer.Full
    ***** onNetStatus ****** :NetStream.Buffer.Empty
    ***** onNetStatus ****** :NetStream.Buffer.Full
    ***** onNetStatus ****** :NetStream.Play.Transition -- Frozen - still hear audio
    ***** onNetStatus ****** :NetStream.Play.Transition -- Still Frozen.

I working a little bit on my problem.
I put an text area in my script to see which stream is taken.
I slow down the bandwith to 100, 200 and 350 kbps and - surprise surprise only the 100 kbps stream was taken by my app.
Nobody any idea what the problem can be?
    Regards,
    Daniel

  • Why is safari freezing after the mavericks upgrade?

My safari keeps freezing after upgrading to Mavericks yesterday. Everytime I try to go back using 'two-finger swipe', the page freezes and I can't use the cursor to go up or down, select any links on the page etc. Anyone else experiencing any issues like this? If so, what did you do to fix it?

UPDATE to my Oct 31 post:
Within hours of my original post, I walked out of my office and dropped my macbook pro onto the parking lot asphalt.  When I checked it, the screen wouldn't come on.  (Maybe I shouldn't have complained about Mavericks!)
I ended up traveling 120 miles to an Apple store, where they not only repaired my screen for free, but looked at why it was running slow under Mavericks. They pointed out that I was running Sophos anti-virus for Mac and that it was no longer compatible with Mavericks.  With my consent, they took it off and assured me there is no need for anti-virus software at all.  I now have all my original speed and response back.
My MBP was a few months out of warranty, so I am very impressed that Apple fixed it without charging me anything, and then went on to make suggestions about how to improve its performance.

  • The cursor freezes when I pinch zoom using the Lenovo Thinkpad T410 trackpad while Firefox is open.

This happens only on Firefox, not other browsers. In Firefox, when the cursor freezes after a pinch zoom, the track point still works.

    Hi jaideepdesai,
Do you have the accessibility type in page option turned on?
    I think it is [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Inline_autocomplete]
I it is definitely one of these: browser. urlbar.
    See [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_:_FAQs_:_About:config_Entries About:config entries]
By default a new window should open the cursor in the search field on the page. Resetting Firefox will get you back to the default on about:support page.
