Cursor macbook pro retina

Hello, i am the owner of a Macbook Pro Retina Yosemite (late 2014) with 8 gb of ram.
I have a problem: after a period of inactivity of the cursor about 10-15 seconds, if you drag your finger on the trackpad, the cursor DOES NOT makes his "natural" movement but is positioned at the end of the movement itself.
The problem DOES NOT occur while i am using an USB key or an external mouse connected to the computer.
I went to the apple store (genius bar) and they have found this problem, saying that is a desired and sought thing by Apple, is a "characteristic" of the Macbook Pro Retina;  according to me, it sounds very weird...
This is a video of a guy that has the same problem:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWAjx3OrQ6w
What do you think about that?
What do you think can this be?
Thanks very much

Hi ..
I've never heard of this particular characteristic on a MacBook Pro before.
First, check all your settings System Preferences > Trackpad
All tabs:  Point & Click / Scroll & Zoom / More Gestures
If nothing there helps, reset the PRAM > OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM

  • Bizarre cursor and trackpad on MacBook Pro Retina

On my new MacBook Pro Retina the cursor has started jumping all over the place without my doing anything, and the trackpad responds erratically, if at all.  I've done all the easy stuff - this occurred suddenly.  Others?  Fixes?

For hardware related issues reset PRAM and SMC
    Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, contact Apple.
    Best.

It's a new machine - and the Thunderbolt Display is meant to work with it. You need to just make an appointment at your local Apple Store and have them fix whatever is wrong.
If you like, you could always try a SMC reset and a PRAM/NVRAM reset to see if either of those will get your keyboard back in working order...

  • MST Support for MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 - DisplayPort 1.2 - Will it ever happen? (with sources)

So back in October, I purchased a brand new Macbook Pro Retina (MBPr), fully loaded with top of the line specs.  I was soooo excited to have Thunderbolt 2 tech which Intel AND Apple describes as having DisplayPort 1.2a compatibility - which up to this point is unfortunately NOT the case.  The point of the information/questions and requests in this article is to engage a conversation about the issues of not having MST support after Apple falsely mislead their consumers to think otherwise - especially when it is clear the MBPr is capable.  Please read on...
Apple advertises that the Thunderbolt 2 ports on BOTH the MBPr and the new Mac Pro (NMP) will have 4K Display support with the famed 20gb/sec Ports (DisplayPort 1.2 only requires a little above 17gb/sec).  Now that the 10.9.1 update has been released, we have failed to see MST or Multi-Stream Transport enabled on the MBPr Late 2013.  Now, as for the New Mac Pro- it DOES have MST enabled in 10.9.1 with the AMD GPUs.  For all of you out there that's questioning what this means, short answer is basically the Mac Pro will be able to power a 4K Monitor at 60Hz through the Thunderbolt 2 Port but the New MBPr is stuck with only HDMI 1.4 support which tops out at 4K 30Hz. 30Hz is unacceptable for anything but movies or a photo slideshow.  At 30Hz the cursor will jump across the screen, eliminating any of the benefits of 4K.
    BUT it gets worse...
Apple can be seen advertising that the new MBPr 15" model can power a 4K monitor THROUGH the Thunderbolt 2 Port here: http://www.apple.com/thunderbolt - This article quotes the following:
"Now with Thunderbolt 2 built into the new Mac Pro and MacBook Pro with Retina display, you can connect the latest 4K desktop displays and get double the bandwidth for your peripherals. And the two generations of Thunderbolt technology are compatible with each other."
Does this not let the consumer assume that the newest MBPr will be able to drive a 4K display through the Thunderbolt 2 Port?  I would say yes it does, but at the time I wrote this, the TB2 Ports can't power a 4K display because, as previously stated, MST is disabled in Mavericks for the 15" MBPr Late 2013.
NOW, later on Apple posted the following article on 4K support here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6008
4K support on the MacBook Pro (Retina, Late 2013)
MacBook Pro supports 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs at the following resolutions and refresh rates with the built-in HDMI port:
    3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz refresh rate
4096 x 2160 at 24 Hz refresh rate (mirroring is not supported at this resolution)
In the article above the New Mac Pro is listed as having support for a 4K Display with the Thunderbolt 2 Port (or MST DisplayPort 1.2a Technology) at 60Hz with no problem.  This leads myself and many others to believe that MST will NEVER be enabled on the newest MacBook Pro Retina with Nvidia GPUs. Yes, 4K IS supported but ONLY through the HDMI 1.4 port, which has the limitation of only 30hz.  This two-faced advertising is extremely upsetting to a LOT of people, including myself.
Interestingly enough, THIS IS NOT a hardware issue.  If one ventures into Windows 8.1 via Bootcamp and connects a 4K Display via the Thunderbolt 2 (or through DP1.2) Port, the Display registers at 60Hz, thus proving that the Thundberbolt 2 Hub Controller is completely capable of MST DisplayPort functionality.  Clearly this a driver issue with Apple, Nvidia or Intel or any combination.  What Apple has done here is forcing any professional that desires stable and clear 4K technology through their MacBook Pro Retina to do so only using Windows 8.1 on their own machines!  Definitely an oxymoron if you ask me...
Later on when the Mac Pro was ready for ordering, Apple placed the Sharp PN-K321 as a compatible option for a 4K Display.  On the Store page featuring the (over three thousand dollar) Sharp 4K display, located here http://store.apple.com/us/product/HD971LL/A/sharp-32-pn-k321-4k-ultra-hd-led-mon itor?fnode=53 Apple states the following:
"Note that 4K DisplayPort operation is only compatible with the new Mac Pro (Late 2013)."
All of that being said, and I'm terribly sorry for my wordy ranting...
This brings me to a final two requests to ANYONE reading this post:
    a) Has anyone working with the new 10.9.2 Beta Update seen evidence that DisplayPort 1.2 capabilities will be enabled for the new MacBook Pro Retina (Nvidia 750M) with the promised "Graphics Driver Updates" within the next Mavericks update?
    and
    b) To others that purchased or were/are thinking of purchasing a new MacBook Pro Retina with TB2 Ports: If you are just as upset as me about this crushing blow to consumers that just purchased a $3,000 laptop that were promised something that wasn't delivered - I urge you please, write to Apple and let them know they are making a mistake.  You can do this though the support page or through http://www.apple.com/feedback
Thank you for your precious time, and if anyone has anything to contribute to this issue, please jump in....

    GOOD NEWS!
The Mavericks 10.9.3 update adds official support for Thunderbolt 2, 4K!
I'm not sure if you will be able to daisy chain anything to the 4K display.  I've read that the design of Thunderbolt 2 includes support for DisplayPort 1.2 multi-stream (MST), which allows this type of daisy chaining with 4K, but we don't know if Apple has this supported on it's machines.  Apparently it's been buggy in development because the graphics driver needs to work correctly with the Thunderbolt 2 host controller.  I'm sure they will work it out if they haven't already.
The above is all via found information on this topic, but you can follow some more discussion here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1713876
One more note on Thunderbolt worth sharing: always keep your fastest peripherals closer to the computer in the chain. If you have a TB1 device directly connected to the computer, anything further down the chain will be limited to TB1 speed/capability regardless of it's native speed.  Always connect TB2 devices first, and save anything TB1 for the end of the chain.

  • Is my Apple MacBook Pro Retina a Lemon?

Brand new(7 days old) MacBook Pro Retina 2.4GHz 16GB SSD 15" with latest OS updates. I treat this MacBook like it is my newborn child. I am extremely careful with the hardware AND software configuration, almost to the extent that it's a compulsion. I have used multiple computers with Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems. I take extra time to find out the best way to treat computers as to avoid troubles like these, so I feel especially upset about losing two hours of work on my clients project. Luckily everything is backed up on GitHub and Dropbox.
I used a great tutorial from mactuts on setting up a new mac the way that developers do, and I have set up Windows and Linux just fine. I doubt there is a system or program configuration issue on my part. I was running a few programs that are not processor or RAM intensive.
    - Sublime Text 2
    - Google Chrome
    - CodeKit (Sass compiler)
    - iTerm2 (terminal)
    - Dropbox (was not syncing)
    - Moom (window arranging utility)
    - Alfred (app and file finder utility)
There were absolutely no peripherals connected to the MacBook, no mice, USB devices, or even headphones. Only apps running.
I was typing code into Sublime Text 2 and I saved the file, watched the browser for live changes on the web site I was working on (thanks to CodeKit) and the page refreshed fine, when I moved the cursor via the touchpad back to Sublime Text 2 from the Google Chrome window, I was greeting with a 100% frozen MacBook Pro. The entire GUI was stuck, no keys would function at all, and I didn't know what to do. I searched for answers, couldn't find anything, and I held down the power button until the MacBook turned off. The computer was not hot at all during this time.
I restarted the computer after some more searching and found instructions on verifyng the disk. All is fine according to the system Disk Utilities. I just got done with a 1 hour and 6 minute Apple Hardware test with the extended testing option checked. No errors were found. The aluminum north of the function keys got SUPER hot.
The MacBook has done something similar twice before but I shrugged it off. I was doing similar tasks as may have triggered the recent problem, but the freeze only lasted seconds instead of forever. How could a 2600 dollar computer freeze during text editing and web browsing? Have I been sold a lemon? Is this a common problem? Can this problem be corrected? Can the cause of this problem be eliminated?
I have another laptop that is over 4 years old (Toshiba Sattelite) running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. It has never had a problem running simple text editors, code watchers/compilers(Sass/Compass/Guard), or browsers, even all at the same time. From the reputation that Apple has, I was expecting more. I figured the computer might have a few hiccups if rendering a huge video file, or running 3 external monitors with Photoshop and Illustrator open and working, but definitely not with the programs I had open.
I switched to Apple to learn iOS and OSX development, to make awesome apps. I am 90% sold on taking this back to Apple and getting a full refund, never to go back. I hope someone can help change my mind and fix my computer.
    Thank you so much.

Ah! A Linux user. That explains things. I wondered why you were installing a bunch of stuff I had never heard of on a week-old computer.
The bottom line is that OS X is not Linux. It may look like it sometimes, it shares a few libraries and some command-line tools, but it is completely different. Your old Linux habits will only cause you trouble.
The big question is what 3rd party software have you installed? You listed a few, but there have got to be others. It is a sad fact that OS X has zero credibility among most most corporate and open-source software developers. There is a vast amount of software that hasn't been updated in almost 10 years. How far would you get installing the latest and greatest Linux tools on a Linux box circa 2007?
As a new Mac user, you are unfamiliar with what software is good and what isn't. Some of the software you listed above is fine, but why install it if the operating system already comes with equivalent functionality? There is nothing wrong with doing that if the Apple software doesn't do what you need. But just doing it out of habit or because it is some open source project is likely to have poor results. For example, OS X version 10.8.4 was recently released. Well-written software from 2006 will run fine. Poorly written software from last week will crash, cause slowdowns, and all kinds of other problems.
If you don't have a good reason for using Chrome instead of Safari or iTerm instead of Terminal, then you are likely going to be at the mercy of 3rd party developers who have more control over your system than you do. Make yourself at home and learn your way around before you invite a bunch of rowdy kids over for a party. Later on, you can throw some parties and have fun, but you will be the one in charge. Right now, they are probably running wild in your basement reconfiguring your plumbing.
This is so common that I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be causing these problems. Download EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck, run it, and paste the results here.

  • Macbook Pro Retina unable to boot windows 7 from USB

    I have an unusual problem
i cannot install windows 7 on my macbook pro retina. Thats not the weird part. This is what happens.
    - I use bootcamp.
    - I make bootable USB.
    - Download drivers.
    - Install windows 7
    - Select partition size as 50 or 60 or 70 GB
    - mac restarts, then a black screen appears, a cursor on top left appears just for a second and then dissappears and i am left with a black screen with nothing on it. (No text or cursors)
I have tried installing 32 bit, 64 bit windows 7.
Weird thing is i had encountered this problem before and did a bit of searching n found out that you cannot upgrade to 64bit from 32bit. But thats not the issue here. A fix given to that problem worked for me as well. Make a bootable usb with 32bit windows and manually remove all non-hidden files on it and replace with non-hidden files of a 64bit win7. It worked for me then. Win7 installed. But recently i got battlefield 3 and needed additional space to install so i had to remove win7 and repartition. Now no solution is working. Not even the replacing 32bit files with 64bit files.
I really wanna game!! Please help!!

    SOLVED:
    64bit still acts cocky.
But i tried that work around with another USB and it worked. Just Like that
    Cocky Mac.
Create USB with 32bit OS, replace non-hidden files with non-hidden files of 64bit OS of windows 7.

  • Macbook Pro Retina 2014 HDMI problems

    Hi,
I'm new to the Mac world, so please forgive me if I'm overlooking the obvious.  I'm trying to connect my new 2014 Macbook Pro Retina to my VGA monitor via a HDMI adaptor.  I've used this adaptor without problems on my Lenovo laptop running Ubuntu.  However, when I connect it to the Mac, the Macbook display flashes, sometimes I see the display preferences and it correctly identifies the monitor, an old Acer wide-screen, flash up and it flicks between various resolutions and preference options; other times it just flashes and then goes blank (the only way I know to get back from the blank screen is to turn it off and on again).  Other times it just flashes and then does nothing, certainly in display preferences I don't see the other monitor and the other monitor is blank.
I know the cable and monitor work, I can understand their being a resolution problem, the monitor is way less capable than the retina screen.  So, is there any way to tell the Mac to use extended mode instead of mirror mode from the start?
Can I basically set-up the monitor and then plug it in, so it doesn't have to try and auto detect everything and have a heart attack?
Also, it seems like all the failed attempts have stopped the Mac even trying to figure out what to do.  I have deleted the plist files, which I assume are the configuration files so it will try and figure out what to do again, but it just seems to have now succumbed to the fact it doesn't want to work with it.
    Any suggestions, very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Paul

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately the monitor is not available to be selected under Display > Colour.  When I have the display properties open, it does flash up a new window with the correct monitor and various resolution settings, but it is not possible to select one or do anything as the display keeps flashing and the cursor keeps jumping to the top left of the screen, then everything goes blank.
The HDMI to VGA adaptor that I use is a CAMAC (not the best in the world I'm sure but has worked solidly with my Lenovo laptop and Unbuntu).
The monitor I'm trying to connect to is a Acer AL1916W (again not a great monitor but has worked flawlessly with every over computer connected to it including the Lenovo with the HDMI adaptor).
The Mac is defiantly recognising the monitor, it just can't seem to decide what to do with it, flashing up display property windows and swapping between settings before giving up and everything goes blank.
Any other suggestions very much appreciated.

  • Cleaning heat sink on Macbook Pro Retina after liquid spill... HELP!

    Hello all...
My wonderful boyfriend spilled about 3-4 tablespoons of orange juice on my Macbook Pro Retina (15in) on Thursday. Right over the left speaker and onto the ESC, ~, brightness up and down, 1, 2, 3, TAB, Q, W, Caps Lock, and A key. It also dripped down and got into the vent. I immediately (like within 1 second) grabbed it and turned it upside down, and wiped it up while holding it upside down. I then turned it off and held it upside down for some time, and let it sit open and off after that. I turned it back on the next day and had no apparent issues. (However today some of the keys have been "crunchy", so I think I better clean them...)
I couldn't get it to the Apple store until yesterday because of Hurricane Sandy and not having power or anything. I had the genius check it out. He could only take off the back without having to charge me anything and he said that none of the liquid sensors were tripped in the back of the computer but that there was some dried up orange juice in the heat sink (but apparently not really anywhere else which he said makes me the luckiest person in the world). He took a photo on his phone and showed me... just some residue and orange juice that looked "dried up" in like 5 or 6 of the vents. He said that I could try to clean it myslf with alchohol wipes and a toothpick at my own risk. But I am very nervous as I am not exactly tech savvy... I watched videos on how to take the back off, but the part about disconnecting the battery and all gets me nervous. My question is, do I have to disconnect the battery to just gently clean up the heat sink with a little toothpick and alchohol wipes? Do I have to ground myself? What do I do?
Also, how necessary do you think it is to even clean it up? Could the heat sink need to be replaced in the future from this? Is it really a big deal? I'm looking for honest answers, since I felt like the genuis guy had too much liabality to say anything to me about anything.
Unrelated, what are the chances that liquid got through the keyboard to anything more sensitive to liquid? The genius couldnt really give me an answer. I have noticed just as I am typing now that sometimes it seems that the cursor of where I am typing will just jump back to the end of the previous line when I hit the Caps Lock key... it's very strange and I'm getting agita just thinking about it. Could that be a problem with just my keys getting stuck somewhere or a bigger problem with hardware being damaged... help and THANK YOU!

When i start any game the CPU goes up to 90° in 2 minutes and the computer shutdown after at least 5 min.
I found a solution. after a lot of research i checked that my fans are working on the minimum means at 2000 rpm even when the games are on. so i install it a software called smcFancontrol that u can control ur fan speed and i make it up to 4000 pm (you can do it with iStat menu too) and i tested my computer. I Have been playing on my macbook pro since this morning and there is no problem of overheat or shutdown.
Is it normal that we need to change the fan configuration or control to play a game that was working fine before.?
for cooling my machine i have a mStand Rain design http://www.raindesigninc.com/pic_high%20res/mstand_macbookpro_keyboard_perspecti ve_unibody.jpg

  • Macbook pro retina external monitor mouse skipping, lag problem

When I plug my macbook pro retina (Lion) into a 24" monitor through the DVI adaptor, the cursor jumps erratically every ~10 seconds when being moved. Feels like a lag and is worse with more programs running. Does not depend on mouse or mouse surface. Trackpad does it too. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Hi AO1 James,
If I understand correctly, the external monitor was blurry from the moment you plugged it into your MacBook Pro with Retina display. I would first check the resolution settings for the monitor with the "How do I select additional resolutions on my display?" section of the following article:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
If it remains blurry after selecting your monitors optimal resolution, I would use the steps under the "Reset the system" section of the article to help troubleshoot the issue.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Macbook pro Retina Photoshop ONLY graphic artifacts

I have a macbook pro Retina Mid 2012 for work.  And every time I use photoshop, and move the cursor around I see very annoying graphical artifacts on the left and top of the screen.  This looks like a driver issue one might expect on a PC.  I can't take a screen shot of it, since it goes away when I try to do that..  of course.  but attached below is a mockup of what it basically looks like.  (I cannot upgrade to maverick due to not workig with software we need at the office)
This ONLY happens in Photoshop.  and has been happeneing ever since the laptop was first purchased.  Has anyone else seen something like this?  Is there a driver update to fix it? etc...

There are so many apps that use the NVIDIA GPU... download gfxCardStatus and install it so that you can get a handle on apps that use the GPU processor (Chrome, any Creative Suite app, etc.).
If the problem only occurs when using the discrete GPU in PS then it's either a hardware fault or a PS fault - you'll know if other apps that use the NVIDIA chip display the same anomalies.

It's not just Chrome. Something is seriously wrong with these new Macbooks. It's all over the web.
    My story:
Tons of apps were crashing left and right: Evernote, Reminders, Pages, etc. What's worse, the computer had multiple kernel panics in the first week of purchase, none of which could be attributed to Chrome, Skype, or any of that nonsense. When I ran the Apple hardware test, everything came up fine. Took the computer to the Genius Bar, who recommended that I erase and reinstall. I did that, and I just experienced another crash today. I was in Pages, and the entire computer froze, although I could move my cursor.
Put simply, I dropped almost four thosuand dollars on what should be the best computer on the planet, but is actually a piece of crap.
I only wish I knew whether it was hardware or software, so that I could actually fix the problem.
Either way, I severely doubt I will purchase another Apple computer.

  • Macbook Pro Retina display laptop to Dell 1409X projector doesn't work

Macbook Pro Retina display laptop to Dell 1409X projector – I use OSX 10.9 & I've cabled from my thunder port (mini display port) via apple's adapter to a vga cable to a Dell 1409X projector.  But the projected display is different from the computer display. The cursor is controlled from my trackpad, but is only seen in the projection display. Also the dock items are only seen in the projection display. But when I select any application (ex, Word file or a jpeg image) it is only seen on the laptop. Meanwhile the projected display shows items from my screensaver, always different from what is shown on the laptop.
    Thanks for any help.

  • 13" macbook pro retina 2013 problem: blank screen when waking up from standby

I bought a 13" macbook pro retina 2013 about 3 months ago and it is for about a week or two that I encountered a problem: when I close the lid and open it after a while(or it goes to standby by not using it for some time and then I wake it up by pressing a button), sometimes it shows a blank dark screen(with mouse cursor) for about 15 seconds and then either the screen is turned off(and by pressing a key it shows the login screen) or it shows the normal login screen.

I also have this problem, and now the
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M is not working at all
I use gfxCardStatus for work on integrated card and i can't use other displays obviously, because all video outputs (HDMI & Thunderbolt) are taking their ways from discrete card (but working on other displays is my profession of audiovisual artist). My world guarranty is over now, new motherboard costs near 1500 $ and now i don't want what to do.Maybe reballing of videochip will help me, but i'm afraid that not autorised service in my country will kill my motherboard at all. This is my first mac & i have lost many time for take the money for buyng it. I have so much frustration.

  • New macbook pro retina ruined by kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0x1f = Fifo: MMU Error

hi everyone, i've been owning a macbook pro retina for 3 months. it never gave me any problem till 3 days ago, when i noticed it began to stuck randomly when the system performed an animation action (for example: click on the minus button on whatever app sometimes blocks my computer when the animation starts; opening an app from the dock; clicking on the "expand window" button of an app; dragging a usb device to the trash to eject it and more) this leads my computer to complete block, without possibility of recovery: only the cursor moves around, the screen freezes and after a while becomes dark, the combination cmd+alt+esc doesn't work, if i close the screen nothing changes and the apple on the back stays lit, the only thing i can do is forcing the shutdown through power button. now, after 3 days of searching in my console reports i've found this error:
    kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0x1f = Fifo: MMU Error
which i really think is the cause of my problem. however, searching on the internet for this error, i've learnt that a lot of people has had this kind of problem when changing their graphics cards with others, but obviously i haven't touched anything in my macbook pro! plus, i've performed onyx scripts, and also apple hardware test which initially (mac without electricity plug) gave me this error 4SNS/1/40000001 : IDOR-0.002 but then, when i performed the complete test (after plugging the electricity) disappeared. today i tried again the fast hardware test with electricity too and it didn't give me anything, so the first error may have depended on the fact that i was using batteries?
is there a way to update graphics drivers on mac? can it be a solution?
please help me decide if it's the case to bring it to the genius bar or if a solution exists for my macbook!
    thank you in advice,
    a desperate mac addicted

NEVER EVER upgrade a version of OS X unless the computer is working perfectly to begin with, upgrading to attempt to solve a problem will only make your problem MUCH more difficult to troubleshoot.
    Good luck.
