Cursor (Pointer) Showing as Hand (Move Tool) Instead of Pointer

How do you change the characteristic of the cursor from Hand (Move Tool) back to just being a pointer? This condition only exists in the Develope Module when my cursor is placed over the top of the photo. When I move it off the photo it returns to a pointer. In the Library Module it is always a pointer like I like it to be.

My first guess would be that you are in Fill View or some other View that makes your image slightly larger than the screen - hence it gives you a hand so that you can expose the hidden parts of your image.
Change your view in the Navigator Panel to Fit and see if your pointer returns.

Ya, okay ! I use a number of PSE programs, one of which is PSE 9. The tools for some reason seem to have frozen. When I use the move tool I don't get just one hand but 3 hand symbols all next to each other. Same thing with the crop tool, I don't get one symbol but 3 all next to each other. There are a couple of tools that just don't work at all. It's like the PSE 9 got hit with some virus or sorts. Oh well, live and learn. Trying to get through to tech service is next to impossible.

Have you seen this other thread you started about this problem?

Problem with Hand move tool in CS2 ...

Hi,
I hope one of you here knows what to do about this as it's less conducive to my normal work-flow...
I have a Photoshop CS2 which I used to use on Windows XP and here it worked as supposed to. When I hit the spacebar the "hand move tool" appeared and I could move the images I was working with by left clicking my mouse and then move the image.
Now I've re-installed Photoshop on a new computer with Windows 7 (SP1) and now the "hand move tool" doesn't work anymore. The cursor shifts from the current cursor symbol to a hand but I can't move anything with it.
Given that it's worked before on Win XP I guess it's a compatibility issue of some kind - one of you knows what can be done?

Tools keep turning into the Hand Move tool

all of a sudden I am having a problem with my tools turning into the hand move tool, no matter which tool I use.
I moved the Wacom pen 5 feet away (this moving away seemed to fix it before but not now).
Any suggestions?

move the wacom pen AND mouse away, unless you're using the mouse.
smack the space bar a couple times. sometimes they stick.

Forcing the cursor to show the hand with useHandCursor

Hi,
I have a button that I disable after a user clicks it, then the button is enabled when the animation is completed.
I set useHandCursor = false
after the user clicks the button.
Then I set useHandCursor = true
after the movie completes.
But the hand cursor doesn't display until the user moves the mouse.
I want the hand cursor to show if the user has left the cursor on the button without them needing to move the mouse. Is there away to force the hand cursor to show if it is hovering above a button when useHandCursor is set to true?

Try using buttonMode instead - works for me without having to move the mouse.

How to show the 'hand' cursor on thumbnail link?

I'm a novice user, today is the 3rd time I've even worked in Dreamweaver ..I used to use Frontpage 2000 so this a quite a change for me. <:)
I'm making a simple picture gallery using image thumbnails and wanted the full view images to load in a custom sized windows. I used the 'onclick' and 'open browser window' behaviour for each thumbnail and previewed it in IE & Safari. The windows were great, but I noticed the standard arrow pointer appears over the thumbnails even though they are links to full images..so nobody would know they are clickable. : /
Is there some way in Dreamweaver CS4 to have the cursor change to the 'hand' form to indicated this is a link? I'm guessing it might be something to do with an 'on mouseover' trigger on the thumbnail, but I didn't see anything about cursors.
Apologies in advance if I did not explain this in the correct terms or if it's a code issue that can't be addressed in Dreamweaver.

Why not use a null link on the thumbnail to attach the behaviour to? and add the return false.

Select the thumbnail and in the property inspectory, in the link box, type in javascript:;
Then apply the Open Browser window to the thumbnail as usual.

You will also need to add the following rule to the stylesheet (or in the head of the document if the style rules are there), to remove the blue border around the images...

Move tool "Show transform controls" with a type layer

I just recently figured this "show transform controls" option with the Move Tool and while trying it out, I noticed it works differently with type layers than others.
On regular bitmap layers it moves, resizes and rotates as supposed, but with type layer it jumps to "free transform" -function when trying to do anything with the transform controls. Causing the tool to drop and the anchor points change place (from text outline to text box?).
Is this normal behaviour or is there something I don't get?

How do I show a hand cursor for a text entry box button

I'm using Captivate 5 and have run into an annoying problem...
For a general click box, there is an option for "Show hand cursor over hit area" which will result in the cursor changing to a hand when rolling over the click box region in the published presentation. I want to do the same for the 'submit' button in the text entry box. Is this even possible? I'm hoping to keep things consistent as a user is clicking through the presentation.
I find it odd that it doesn't have the same property as found on the clickbox considering it has the same purpose. I'm using a background screenshot image to simulate an entry in an application, so I'm actualy hiding the submit button, but the button I want them to press lacks the hand cursor that would indicate it is clickable. I don't want to use a click box to allow the user to move on because I still want a failure in the text entry box to prevent the user from moving on.

Another approach is to use a Rollover Caption. Just remove any text and configure the caption as transparent. Then layer the Rollover area over the part where you want the hand to change to a cursor. The net effect will be that the cursor change will occur. Clicking will then result in triggering the underlying Submit button, which appers to be invisible and layered over an image.

Pointer tool instead of arrow?

Hello all --
I'm not sure if this is either a) possible, or b) answered, but here goes. Is it possible to have pointer tools instead of arrows appear when hovering over a button I created? If not possible in catalyst, is it possible to export into flash builder and do it there?

Are you looking for something like this? That is as fancy as Catalyst can get with the cursor.
Could you describe what the pointer would look like, as opposed to the normal arrow cursor?

Move tool, right click should show exact layer

On mac when you right click with the move tool, it brings up the list of all the layers, plus it starts your mouse over the layer you right clicked on. But in Windows, when I right click, it just starts the mouse on the top left of the list of layers. I want it to auto find the layer, like in mac. How can I make it do that? Thanks.

As Paulo said, just click on the image with the move tool when its Auto Select box is checked in the tool's options and this will select the topmost layer containing the clicked pixel. I use it like that all the time. Holding Ctrl will toggle the state of this option. So, if you use the Move tool with this option off, just hold Ctrl and click to select the topmost layer containing the clicked pixel - alternative to Alt + right click.
When you right click, the popup shows a list of all layers containing pixels under the clicked point in the corresponding stacking order with the topmost layer being first on the list - just select it, your mouse is almost there.
Another handy thing if you are like me working most of the time with gazilions of layers is when you right click and press a key with the first letter of the layer's name it selects it. Sometimes this is much faster when I often need to select certain layer/s down a long list.

It's supposed to show up as a camera because it is a camera. Additionally, you won't be able to sync your music from your iphone back to iTunes... media sync is one way... iTunes to the iPhone.

In Photoshop CS6 how do I turn off the move tool popup showing the mouse coordinates?

I just installed Creative Suite CS6 and in Photoshop, when I use the move tool a small popup window shows the mouse coordinates. I can't see any option to turn this off, either in the Options bar or the Preferences. It's really annoying. Can someone please help?

Hand cursor not showing for smartshape buttons

I have some smart shape buttons for which "Hand cursor" is checked, but the output does not show the hand cursor. What are my troubleshooting steps for this?

I am having this problem too. Here's the situation:
Smart shape used as button. This smart shape button is top item in the timeline (no objects on top). Visible in output is checked. Hand curser box is selected. No drag and drop used in the project. Published to SWF, not publishing as scaleable content. Force republish selected. I've recreated the smart shape button from scratch several times.
The smart shape button works when published but NO hand curser is visible.
I have discovered the following:
When Master Slide Objects On Top is checked, the hand curser is not visible.
When Master Slide Objects On Top is NOT checked, the hand curser is visible.
Because of the graphic design, I need Master Slide Objects On Top to be checked. The Master Slide in the area of the button is transparent.
I believe this used to work in Captivate 6 but... no longer have Captivate 6 license (long story) :-( and cannot verify.
Can we get this fixed so that the Master Slide Objects on Top does not interfere with hand curser visibility?
