Cursor shows as busy Firefox 3.5 / Gnome

Ello
I'm using Firefox 3.5 on Gnome and when I launch Firefox the cursor shows as busy for upto 30 seconds even though Firefox is fully loaded and I'm browsing about.  Firefox 3.11 was fine and I upgraded through Pacman to 3.5 when it became available.
Out of curiosity I tried opening Firefor 3.5 in an Openbox session and all was fine, so it's something to do with Gnome.
Anyone have any ideas?

I also noticed this when I upgraded my system, under a week ago. I had not upgraded for probably a month before that.
I first noticed this when opening shiretoko, but it also happens when I open an mp3 with vlc.
I have also just been ignoring it. @_@

  • Disable object, during busy cursor showing

    Hi guys,
I've a complex text field which I can embed types of font within it. When I try to choose a specific font through the Dropdownlist, I'll show the busy cursor till font embeds inside the text field completely.
I want to disable my text field based on showing busy cursor... I mean when the busy cursor is showing disable the text filed and after disappearing that, just enabled text field again.
    How can I do that?
Is there any specific listener for that or what?
    Thanks in advance

Ah, that makes more sense - and would allow not having to poll the CPU usage (and I guess there aren't many people launching things from a command line in a DE).
... been too long since I've used a DE.
    EDIT
So if you were to patch dwm, you'd need to add data structures for keeping track of processes that are forked from dwm, and associate each appearing window to the corresponding process in order to determine whether to show a "busy" cursor or a normal one.
May I say that this goes pretty much against the pricincple of dwm of keeping out superfluous features?
... but then again, "superfluous" is subjective, and dwm is made for people patching it to fit their needs, and while having a "busy cursor" in dwm may not seem useful for the big part of dwm users, you are free to patch it whatever way you like, and that's the beauty of a hackable WM

I managed to boot the computer and get the desktop to show. I now have a "repaired" computer. There are several problems that have cropped up. One is that I can only start up now in Safe Boot mode. Is there a way to turn it off? Also, I do not have a sound list, so I can't access anything requiring audio. Google Chrome only shows up as a white screen. Pictures that loaded before don't load in browsers, etc. Any suggestions? I figure I should reinstall Mac OS Lion for starts, maybe even do a mirror backup and reformat the drive. I think this drive has turned into scrambled eggs...what a headache!

I don't have a public version as I'm just staring development.
For an example I have completed the walk-thru at [http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/getting-started-with-ef-using-mvc/updating-related-data-with-the-entity-framework-in-an-asp-net-mvc-application]. Then I tried changing minor items in site.css (such as font size) and the changes did not show up on FireFox, but do show up on Chrome and Internet Explorer.
Example of change below: I changed the background from #e8eef4 to #ff0000. The table header background shows up in red for chrome & IE, but stay in light blue for FireFox.

    Hi Andis.
First of all, this is completely normal behavior, although it's a bit irritating, I know. What happens is that when you close Firefox, despite the window disappearing right there and then, Firefox keeps running for a little bit until the whole closing procedure is completed. This can take a fraction of a second on fast computers, or can take a few seconds on slow computers or when Firefox is storing a large session (if you save your tabs). All you have to do is wait a bit until Firefox closes, and then open it again.
To see if it's still running, you can press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and then, under the Processes tab, you can see if firefox.exe is still there. If it's taking an unusual amount of time to close (which happens very rarely, and only if the browser freezes on exit), you can force the application to terminate from this application (task manager).
Firefox 4.0 will reduce by 97% the time it takes firefox.exe to close, so this problem will be basically erased for Firefox's next version.
Until then, I can recommend you this extension, which helps you restart your browser more easily and without bothering about closing times:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3559/
    Hopefully this will help.

  • All day events show as busy

Calendar events that are all day events, are show as busy in our system even if we have unchecked 'Include this event in calculating availability in calendar express, or 'Show as busy' in the UWC. <snip http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2568/aceas?a=view>
Front-End and Back-End Machines and Operating Systems
For Calendar Server installations that separate functionality across front-end and back-end machines, the hardware platforms must be the same on each end.
More specifically, due to big-endian versus small-endian incompatibility, you cant use both an x86 platform machine and a SPARC platform machine in the same Calendar Server deployment containing front-end and back-end machines.
Moreover, mixing Solaris x86 and Linux operating systems for front-end and back-end machines has not been tested and is not currently supported.
    </snip>
In Calendar Server 6.3 this limitation has been removed:
    <snip http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4432/aceas?a=view>
    Installing on Mixed Hardware Platforms
In the past, for distributed database environments (DWP with CLD Plug-in), front-end and back-end processes had to be installed on the same hardware platform due to big endian-little endian problems. That is no longer true. Front-end and back-end processes can now be installed on different hardware platforms.
For example, a front-end machine could be an X-86 platform machine, while the back-end is a SPARC platform machine.
    </snip>
This may have something to do with the issue at hand (or could be completely irrelevant). I don't have your configuration available to attempt to reproduce the problem myself -- I attempted on a 2005Q4 SPARC single-host install but it worked fine.

    Shane.

  • Double value change event if cursor is set busy (LV2009)

    Hello everybody,
I just migrated from LV 8.0 to LV 2009 (on linux) and now got problems with a value change event. I want to send a command if a button is pressed and send another one if the button is released. After sending the command I need to wait for an acknowledge from the receiver and to avoid user interaction in between I lock the cursor with "set busy" VI until the acknowledge is received. To see, when the button is pressed or released, I use a value change event. Inside the event structure the cursor is set busy.
This worked reliable in LV 8.0 but not any more in LV 2009. The button's mechanical action is set to "switch until released" and if I press the button and keep it pressed it is reset to false automatically. The value change event is fired twice instead of only once (see attached vi) and "new value" is one time true and one time false. This doesn't happen if the mechanical action is set to "switch when pressed".
Does anybody have an explanation or a workaround for this behaviour? Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug in LV? For now I'll just keep the cursor unlocked.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Flash not showing up in Firefox 2.0

I have a page and have used Dreamweaver CS3 to install a
Flash file. It is an MP3 file that has been converted into Flash. I
used the insert menu and chose Flash, actually I have tried most of
the inserts. When I open the page in IE it works fine. When I open
it in Firefox you can't even see the player controls or hear the
file play. I have uninstalled and re-installed Flash already, but
that hasn't done anything. Anybody have any ideas of what to do to
get this to show up in Firefox. I would like this to be compatible
    across more than just IE.

can we get a link to see for ourselves? Or paste the HTML
code up here (specifically that which embeds the flash in the
    page)
