Cursor/Trackpad: short freezes

My new MBP often suffers from short cursor freezes, wherein the cursor will simply freeze for a short time, or zoom off to one of the screen's four corners, and then resume interactivity. No third party trackpad software is installed.
I never had this problem on either of my G4 PowerBooks. Otherwise, I'm loving my first Mactel machine.

I believe you'll actually have to UNcheck the box that says to ignore accidental trackpad input. What I've managed to deduce from this is that it's not only ignoring accidental input from your palm touching it (for example), but it's actually ignoring intended trackpad input for a short period before it realizes that you're actually trying to get it to do something.

  • Mac Mini 2014 short freezes

    Hello
Recently I purchased a brand new Mac Mini 2014 and sometimes I have this weird issue. Sometimes my mac has short freezes, i can't move cursor or type anything.
when I reboot my issue is solved but I find it quite annoying that this is happening.
I googled this issue but didn't really find anything simular to my issue.
It's like it running something very huge to process because if i move my mouse during the freeze it does move my mouse after the freeze.
I monitored my memory but I haven't noticed anything strange (is it normal I only have 5-10% of my 8GB RAM left?)
Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue?
    Kind regards
    Mathias

  • Macbook keyboard and trackpad randomly freezes

    Hi!
I have an early 2008 macbook, model MB403LL/A, running 10.6.7.
From time to time, the keyboard and the trackpad will simply stop working, but if I plug in a usb keyboard and mouse, I can still move the cursor and type on the computer. The internal keyboard and trackpad only come back after a restart.
    Help please!

    'ello lads ;o)
You may want to try this solution and see if it works:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
Until recently my 'BlackBook' would have intermittent cursor and keyboard freezes, although I only use the internal keyboard and trackpad. After updating to Snow Leopard yesterday, these freezes were worse, as the macbook never 'came out' of the freezes again and I had to do a hard reset by holding down the powe rbutton and restart.. Not nice if you've just wrote a long email and have no option of saving :o( For the last few months the freezes got worse and I also noticed that the 'screen-dimming' feature would cause the screen brightness to flicker. So when I saw the above document from Apple, I realised that it probably is a power management issue (SMC) and resetting this as per the instructions above appears to have solved these issues completely ;o)
Hope it'll help yer too ;o)
    All the best o' luck!

  • Macbook Pro 10.5.8- cursor disappears and freezes, iphoto editing goes beachball every time

Hi. I have looked for hours  but cannot find exact solutions for these issues (or ones that I can understand), so I am sorry to be repeating what are apparently common problems.  I have a  2009 MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.8 with 4 GB of memory.  The first problem is intermittent in that occasionally, the cursor disappears then freezes up, and I have to use the keyboard to navigate. If I run my finger around the mouse pad for what seems like forever, it will move a little but is very uncoordinated. I can push the cursor in a general direction, but it overshoots the area I'm trying to move to. Sometimes, a restart will fix it. Other times, it eventually starts working again; how, I don't know. I've read lots of theories and solutions, but honestly they're all "reconfigure this,"  "reinstall the pram," "replace the logic  board," "backup, delete, and install such and such," and I have no idea what half of it means. I run the basic software updates regularly, have deleted some unused apps and emptied the trash. No idea what a cache is or how to empty one...
The second problem is with iphoto ('09 version 8.1.2.  424), and it happens consistantly. When the editing features are used, it goes beach ball for several seconds, especially when using "retouch."  I don't use cloud or iLife11 or anything that didn't come with the computer.
Any advice to a girl who understands very little about computers would be  greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have someone look at your machine, discuss upgrading the operating system to 10.6.8 as it will run all your currently installed software (10.7 may not and require more memory, new software purchases)
Also to set up a TimeMachine backup system too.
We can only help those who can help themselves, some need someone to assist them in person.
It's no problem, I don't do my own dental or car work, I turn to those who can assist me with that.
    Good Luck

How do I stop trackpad pointer freezing?

I have this same problem. I press the sleep button twice (once to sleep, once to awaken), and I can work again. Freezes on multi-finger scroll/swipes (somtimes on two fingers, always on three). I have tried changing multi-finger option in the trackpad config, to no avail.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi there cherylakashortee,
Out of curiosity, have you tried a battery pull yet? While the phone is on, simply remove the battery, for good measure, wait a full minute, then reinsert the battery and wait for the device to reboot.
Does that help? If not, let us know what operating system you're running on your phone. You can get this info under Options > Device > About Device Versions, or by typing "myver" in a text box (e.g. email or BBM).
If you want to thank someone for their comment, do so by clicking the Thumbs Up icon.
If your issue is resolved, don't forget to click the Solution button on the resolution!

  • Trackpad and freezing screen

My blackberry curves trackpad has been on the fritz since I bought it last year, it was constantly making my screen scroll quickly up and down making me not be able to type messages or just use my phone normally. Finally my trackpad started freezing on me and completely quit!
I havent had this phone for a year yet, should I send it to blackberry? If so, how?

take it to the shop you purchased the phone from and tell them what has happened if you have not had the phone a year you will have manufactures guarantee so they will send your phone away for repair. make sure you ask for a LOAN PHONE this is a tempmporary phone until yours is fixed

  • Trackpad problem in Windows 7 (short freezes on every click)

Im running windows 7 64-bit in a late 2010 macbook air.
If i activate both tap to click and draging, every single time i click anywhere the cursor freezes for 1 or 1,5 second. It renders the trackpad unusable and the only way to "fix" it is by disabling draging, wich of course is not an option.
Is it the default behavior? Any way to fix it?

Can someone please at least say me if this is the normal behavior of the trackpad, so I dont waste my time trying to fix it?

  • Cursor/trackball brief freezes

I am noticing that my cursor freezes or should I say it stalls for 1 - 4 seconds after various operations like opening, closing, reloading windows, or switching tools in Finale, Photoshop, etc. I'm using the Kensington expert mouse (trackball) with their latest drivers. I used it on my old G5 before I upgraded to this Mac Pro, and it's worked fine for many years.
So, is anyone else experiencing this with their mouse, trackpads, or trackballs?
Is there a fix, or is it a bug we must wait for Apple to address?
It's not a major issue, but it is annoying.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on some Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Cursor jumping and freezing

Recently updated my IMAC to Tiger and upped my RAM to 768.
I'm getting ever increasing cursor freezes and jumps. Sometimes if I unplug and replug the mouse I get the cursor back. Sometimes I just have to restart. I bought TechTools and ran it several times. No luck. Zapped the PRAM. Still no improvement. This issue is getting so frequent my computer is pretty much unusable. I have plenty of drive space. Should I reformat the whole drive and start over? Go back to Panther?

The original Apple Pro mouse cable frays in the chord just as it exits the mouse, over time, and shorts out causing symtoms similar to yours. You can't see the fray by looking at it thru the exterior covering. This can happen to third party mice over time too.
Mine does it. I plugged it into a different port, so the chord exits the mouse in a different direction, and have had very few freezes since. Once I get over my frugalness (cheapness!) I'll buy a new one.
So, try a known good mouse to see if that's the problem. If you still have trouble post back!
    Cheers!
    DALE
Update: since I wrote this I had to replace that mouse as my Mac became totally unusable.

  • T540p Trackpad Intermittent Freezing

My one-week old T540p has a problem with its trackpad freezing. It happens sometimes after I click the trackpad down by pressing in the upper-middle region. It doesn't happen for tap clicks, only real push clicks. It will happen within the first ten minutes of use, so it is not a rare problem, but it doesn't happen everytime I click this region. When it freezes I cannot move the Trackpad or Trackpoint and cannot click or tap either. It all goes completely dead. It is not an issue of my computer being busy and slowing down, as it can happen on the first login screen or when no programs are running. I can still navigate menus with the keyboard. If I plug in a USB mouse it works fine but doesn't restore functionality to the Trackpad/point. The Trackpad/point will only work again after a magic Trackpad click unfreezes it, which takes a while of randomly trying, but often I have given up clicking and rebooted to regain functionality.
I am running Windows 8. My drivers are up-to-date (17.0.12.60). BIOS settings look normal (both 'enabled').
    Thanks for your help!

I just took delivery of a new MacBook a couple of days ago. When I started it up I let it restore all of my user files, applications, and everything from a Time Machine backup. That worked fine, but now Time Machine wants to perform the initial, lengthy backup on a new machine. I find that when that is running, the trackpad and keyboard both freeze and I can't do anything. Strangely, if I plug a Logitech travel mouse into one of the USB ports, that is able to drive the mouse cursor. The keyboard is still frozen until I turn the backup off though.
I'm going to plug the MacBook directly into the Time Capsule to get the backup to go faster, but I still wonder: is there a way to reduce the priority of the Time Machine process so I can use the MacBook while the backup is running?

  • Trackpad occasionally freezes

    Type: 7661-BF3
Thackpad and left, right button below the pad occasionally freeze. I have to wait for more than one minute to move the cursor. However, the trackpoint and the buttons below the trackpoint work. Is it a hardware error?
    Thanks!

I have the same issue with the trackpad. Curiously, it started right after I "upgraded" to the 6/11 BIOS update. I downloaded the trackpad drivers and nothing happened, still the same issue. I also talked to Lenovo support to see if there was a way to go back to the previous BIOS version and apparently there is no way to do that.
Have you guys resolved this issue or do you know of a way to go back to the previous BIOS version?
    Please let me know,
    Thanks!

  • Magic Trackpad Update Freezes my Macbook Pro

I have a 2007 MacBook Pro and purchased a Magic Trackpad for it yesterday. It worked (minus scrolling, etc) without doing the 1.0 update. I ran the Update Programs function and it suggested the update - which I ran. Now my MacBook freezes with a spinning wheel at the Apple icon. I've tried all the standard way to fix it - boot with shift, command-v, command-s and nothing helps. Any ideas of how to manually (via Unix console) delete the last update so I can have my MacBook back? Thanks

Then again even with fully recharged batteries it is sometimes not as precise as the built in trackpad on the MacBook.
