Cursor-Up invokes gnome-screenhot, taking a screenshot

Hello.
Yesterday I did a "pacman -Syu", which updated a lot of packages; among those were quite some Gnome updates to 2.24.1. On http://paste.archlinux-br.org/587 you can see an excerpt of the pacman.log file.
When I now press <Cursor-Up>, the gnome-screenshot program is run.
This also happens with a new test user, who does not have any user specific settings. So it's NOT because of something that I have configured in my normal user account. It also happens, when I use a default Xorg configuration (ie. when I run Xorg, after having deleted my /etc/X11/xorg.conf). This shows, that it's also not because of something that I might have (mis-)configured in xorg.conf.
I'm using a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V2010 notebook with a German keyboard layout. I also tried using an external USB connected Logitecht keyboard - same problem.
What's going on there? How to make Gnome useable again (assuming that it was useable before )?
Cheers,
Michael

Absolutely correct I can now push cursor-up all day long, and have no problems at all
Having had a look at a Xorg.log from a broken X session, I saw that another keyboard with a us layout got added, because of hal.
How would I need to configure hal, so that it works correctly?
Thanks,
Michael

  • Any way of taking a screenshot to show the mouse cursor?

    I often take screenshots to explain things on the FCP X forum etc.
    In FCP X, like most video editing apps, the cursor can change its appearance dramatically according to what tool you are currently using.
    Unfortunately taking a screenshot does not display the cursor or its appearance at that moment.
    I have a workaround involving making a video of the screen and cursor using Screenflow but this is ridiculously complicated.
    Is there a simple way of recording the cursor's icon on a screenshot?

    Your mention of third party app got me Googling and lo and behold there is a free Dashboard widget which captures the cursor in whichever incarnation it happens to be!

    Just to prove its efficacy, here is the result with the cursor (or Trim Tool) arrowed.

  • Mouse cursor disappears in GNOME 3.2

    Hi all,
    I have been having this issue recently with GNOME.  I never had this problem in Gnome 3.0 before i upgraded, but now I'm having it almost every day.  After the screen turns off, i can't get a mouse cursor anymore. I can see things react when i mouseover them, but i can't see the cursor.  I've tried taking the system all the way down to init 1 and back up to init 5 and it's still gone.
    I saw a similar post here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=110023 where a solution was to install the nVidia driver, but 3.2 isn't ready for that yet.
    Is anyone else having this problem?
    If so, what has worked?

    I installed Arch x86_64 yesterday and am running Gnome3 (updated) with the xf86-video-ati driver (HD 5830 video card).  I am having a similar mouse problem.  I cannot see my mouse cursor when it is within a window, such a firefox or terminal.  But when the cursor is outside the client area, such is the window border or on the desktop, I can see the mouse cursor just fine.
    Anyone else having similar issues?

  • [SOLVED] dbus error when taking a screenshot

    I can't take screenshots with the Gnome3 screenshot program. When I try to save a screenshot, I get this error message:
    Error while saving screenshot.
    Impossible to save the screenshot to file:///home/some/directory.
    Error was GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Process /usr/bin/nautilus exited with status 1.
    Please choose another location and retry.
    I found a thread with a similar problem (dbus error when taking a screenshot; the error message is different though) providing a solution, but I can't try that solution because I don't have a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf file.
    How can I fix this?

    Damn, I found the solution (or better: source) of the problem... The error messages states that /usr/bin/nautilus exits with error something-something, and after thinking about that for some seconds it came to my mind that I replaced /usr/bin/nautilus with a softlink (ln -s) to /usr/bin/thunar because I didn't find a better way to totally replace Nautilus with Thunar...
    Thanks for trying to help anyway!

  • HT201361 After taking the screenshot clicking on my trackpad just acting like right mouse click or 2 finger click. Could you help!

    After taking a screenshot command + Shift + 4, clicking on my trackpad is like right mouse click or 2 finger click. Please help!

    Maybe your trackpad battery is running low? If not I would suggest just restarting your Mac. Post again if those things don't fix your problem and some more involved problem-solving can be attempted.

  • My power button has stopped working is there any other way of taking a screenshot

    My power button has stopped working is there any other way of taking a screenshot

    If the power adapter is already plugged into your computer, the AC power cord is likely to spark as you attempt to plug it in.  The power adapter is designed to shut down when a potentially damaging situation occurs.  The "sparking" can cause over-current and over-voltage protection circuits to turn the power adater off.  When this occurs, you should unplug the power adapter from the wall, unplug the power adapter from the computer, wait 15 seconds, plug the power adapter into a properly-grounded AC wall outlet, and then plug the DC output cable into the Mag-safe connector.

  • Can someone please provide *complete* instructions for taking fullpage screenshots using Developer Toolbar?

    Two additional notes:
    1. I've found and typed in numerous other examples and absolutely NOTHING has worked. I keep getting "too many arguments" and am thisclose to lighting a torch to Firefox (and also for not providing this information - easily findable - by themselves!). :(
    2. Therefore, please make whatever you provide:
    a. valid for Firefox 28.0 and (few) previous version(s), and
    b. literally broken down into single steps (consisting of ONE action each) so that literally ANYone can follow and EXACTLY duplicate what you are doing. If Grandma can't follow your directions to a perfect result, you're not done! ;)
    Many thanks from myself and other frustrated users! :D

    UNFORTUNATELY, WHAT YOU'VE SUPPLIED IS MORE OF THE EXACT SAME THING THAT I'VE BEEN SEEING ALL AFTERNOON AND EXACTLY NOTHING LIKE I ASKED FOR, WHICH WAS:
    1. TYPE IN FIRST ITEM OF TOTAL COMMAND; YOU WILL THEN SEE X
    2. TYPE IN SECOND ITEM OF TOTAL COMMAND; YOU WILL THEN SEE X, ETC.
    WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT WILL BECOME SELF-EVIDENT IN FURTHER COMMENTS BELOW....
    You can invoke the screenshot command by typing the first letters of the command and press the Tab key to accept the proposed suggestion.
    THAT RARELY IF EVER WORKS; I MUST TYPE OUT THE ENTIRE WORD.
    https://developer.mozilla.org/Tools
    https://developer.mozilla.org/Tools/GCLI
    I HAVEN'T YET EXAMINED THESE, BUT MY FEELING IS THAT IT WILL BE MORE OF THE SAME.
    Type a space and two hyphens (--) to see the options list and use the Tab key to copy the highlighted entry (fullpage) to the command line.
    TAB REALLY DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR ME IN THIS CONTEXT.
    Note that the fullpage command also has its own options, so you can type the two hyphens another time to see those options.
    The default file name is "Screen Shot yyyy-mm-dd at HH.MM.SS.png" in the default Download directory.
    See also help screenshot
    screenshot --fullpage fullpage_screenshot.png
    THE LINE ABOVE IS EXACTLY WHAT DOES NOT WORK.
    IF I COPY-PASTE IT IN, A SPACE GETS ADDED. HITTING ENTER RESULTS IN IMAGE 1 (ATTACHED), FOLLOWED BY IMAGE 2 (ATTACHED) WITH ENTER AFTER BACKSPACE TO GET RID OF THE SPACE.
    IF I ACTUALLY TYPE IT IN, HITTING ENTER RESULTS IN IMAGE 2.
    THE "TRUE" OPTION ALWAYS COMES UP WITH ME UNABLE TO SELECT IT AS SHOWN IN IMAGE 3, LEADING AGAIN TO THE OBSERVED FAILURE MESSAGE IN IMAGE 2.
    NOW YOU UNDERSTAND WHY I'M FURIOUS BY NOW! :(
    screenshot --fullpage --clipboard true

  • Long "lag" after taking a screenshot.

    I press CommandShift3 to take a screenshot of the entire screen. By default, it goes to my desktop, as it should. The problem though.. Right after pressing the three keys, I hear the camera-shutter sound effect for the screenshot, but after that for about ten or so seconds, everything is completely locked up.
    I can still move the cursor around, but trying to do anything with it results in nothing, sorta. After the "lag" ends, whatever I had done with the cursor during that time suddenly happens, such as moving windows around, or clicking on things.
    I don't get a spinny wheel during that time either.
    Any ideas as to what could be going on?
    I'm running a clean install of Leopard that is two days old.

    You need to have Quartz Debug restore the interface scale for you.
    Open your Developer folder on your hard drive (install the Developer Tools if you haven't), go to Applications, Graphics Tools, and launch Quartz Debug.
    Go to Tools > User Interface Resolution (or hit command-U) and set it to something other than 1.00, and then change it back. Quit Quartz Debug and the screenshot shortcut should work again.

  • Taking a Screenshot?

    I cant for the life of me figure out how to take a screenshot on my macbook.
    i found something online that said commandshift3 but that didnt work.
    and after i d it what do i do?
    im used to just hitting print screen on my pc.
    thanks!
    :::edited:::
    nevermind. it did take the screen shots...but my computer was acting funny and didnt show them on the desktop like they should....and now they are there. my computer is moody.

    Just FYI ...if you hold 'Shift + Apple + 4' you can bring up a crosshair that allows you to move your cursor then click and hold your trackpad and line up precisely what you want to take a snapshot of.

  • Taking a screenshot of StageWebView for websites running a plugin?

    I've been trying to take a screenshot of an instance of StageWebView for websites with embedded SWF and PDF content on the Android. The method drawViewPortToBitmapData works fine for regular websites after enabling hardware acceleration in the manifest.
    //create a bitmap from the webview and display it
    var bitmap_data:BitmapData = new BitmapData(stage.stageWidth - 2*WEBVIEWOFFSET, stage.stageHeight - 40 - WEBVIEWOFFSET);
    webView.drawViewPortToBitmapData(bitmap_data);
    //remove webview and display snapshot
    webView.stage = null;
    var webViewBitmap:Bitmap = new Bitmap(bitmap_data);
    addChild(webViewBitmap);
    The previous code works for embedded content only on the emulator in the Flash IDE. The image is generated  in the folder I specified in Windows but on the Android a blank image is created instead.
    The API states "The behavior of this method is not guaranteed for pages that contain plugin content (such as embedded PDF and SWF files)."
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/media/StageWebVie w.html#drawViewPortToBitmapData%28%29
    I tried using Context3D instead:
    var stage3D:Stage3D = webView.stage.stage3Ds[0];
    stage3D.addEventListener(Event.CONTEXT3D_CREATE, context3dCreated);
    stage3D.requestContext3D(Context3DRenderMode.AUTO);
    function context3dCreated(evt:Event ):void {
        //context 3d creation handler
        var bitmap_data:BitmapData = new BitmapData(stage.stageWidth - 2*WEBVIEWOFFSET, stage.stageHeight - 40 - WEBVIEWOFFSET);
        var renderContext:Context3D = Stage3D(evt.target).context3D;
        trace("3D driver: " + renderContext.driverInfo);
        renderContext.drawToBitmapData(bitmap_data);
        renderContext.present();
        //remove webview and display snapshot
        webView.stage = null;
        var webViewBitmap:Bitmap = new Bitmap(bitmap_data);
        addChild(webViewBitmap);
    but this approach only generates blank images on both the emulator and the device.
    Does anybody know of a way to take a screenshot from a StageWebView displaying embedded SWF or PDF content? or is there a free native extension that can trigger the screenshot in Android (power + home)?

    When I press shift + command + 4, I always go into this highlight-for-screenshot mode (good). However, if I'm attempting to screenshot something in a VMWare session, when I press my left mouse button to start highlighting, I can still manipulate the applications running in it. Ex: I press shift + command + 4, my mouse pointer changes, I then start my screen highlight by beginning over the top of the close button on an application. That application will close because I've clicked the close button.
    This may not help, but what if you start creating the screenshot rectangle in a different corner than the upper left?

  • Taking a screenshot while touching the screen with iOS6

    Hello,
    Ever since I updated my iPhone 4S to the new iOS6 I noticed I can't take screenshots while touching the screen, for example - if I want to take a screenshot of a text message while rolling up the screen (so that only a certain part of the screen will be in the picture) I can't do it - the screenshot saved would be of the whole screen. Same goes with every application (Whatsapp, Snapchat etc.).
    Does anyone know what can I do? Is it a problem with my device, or is it some kind of a bug in the iOS6?
    Thanks ahead.

    Your cellular or wireless may have dropped when the call came in.  Especially when driving.
    Cheers

  • Taking a screenShot/Snapshot programmatically for iOS7 gives me an error

    I am writing the code for capturing the screenShot of what I see on my screen when I press a button in Unity.
    I am writing the following code :
    ScreenCapture.h
    #import <Foundation/Foundation.h>
    #import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
    #import "QuartzCore/QuartzCore.h"
    @interface ScreenCaptureDelegate : UIViewController {
    - (IBAction)ScreenShot;
    @end
    AND
    ScreenCapture.mm
    #import "ScreenCapture.h"
    #import "QuartzCore/QuartzCore.h"
    @implementation ScreenCaptureDelegate
    - (IBAction)ScreenShot {
        UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(self.view.bounds.size);
        [self.view drawViewHierarchyInRect:self.view.frame afterScreenUpdates:NO];
        UIImage *screenshotimage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext();
        UIGraphicsEndImageContext();
        UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum(screenshotimage, nil, nil, nil);
    @end
    static ScreenCaptureDelegate *delegateObject = nil;
    // When native code plugin is implemented in .mm / .cpp file, then functions
    // should be surrounded with extern "C" block to conform C function naming rules
    extern "C" {
        void _showPopUp(const char* Picture)
            [delegateObject ScreenShot];
    When I run this on the ipad I only get blank images.I have updated my ipad to use ios7.
    I even tried with the renderInContext command, even there I get blank images. So i tried with the drawViewHierarchyInRect   .
    I even used the snapshotViewAfterScreenUpdates but here I dont even get a blank image.
    Am i going wrong somewhere?

    Hi
    You should replace [self.view drawViewHierarchyInRect:self.view.frame afterScreenUpdates:NO]; to [self.view drawViewHierarchyInRect:self.bounds afterScreenUpdates:NO];

  • Mac Freezes when taking snapshot/screenshot via CMD+SHIFT+3

    my computer freezes for about a minute whenever i take a snapshot/screenshot. is anyone else experiencing this? i've tried repairing using first aid in disk utility with no luck. anyone have any idea?

    no i have not. i just found someone else who has the same problem:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9216400&#9216400
    this issue only occurs for him when he's using the "Better Performance" option in Energy Saver and only when it's not plugged into an adapter. i tested it and realized that it was the same for me. perhaps it's punishment for not being energy efficient :P. I'll keep my settings on "better battery life" until this bug (if it is a bug) is fixed.

    Greetings,
    Anyone know a way to capture the cursor when taking a screenshot?
    Any programs that do it?

    Snapz Pro X (from http://www.ambrosiasw.com/) will let you choose whether you want the mouse pointer included in the screen shot or not.

  • Prevent user from taking screenshot?

    Hey everybody.
    I have a small problem here with a game/program I am developing.
    The whole game is supposed to work like this:
    "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concentration_(game)"
    I have an Image in the background that the user can see after clearing all cards on the screen. The picture was made by our in-house artists, thats why we dont want them floating around everywhere.
    A google and forum searcg turned up without results
    Now is there any way to prevent the user from just taking a screenshot from the backgroundpicture and share the pictures everywhere?
    Is there a flag or property that I can set to prevent screenhots beeing taken from my application?
    Anything?
    I hope somebody can help.

    I have a thought regarding this, seems like a long shot but it just might lead to something.
    When programming in Cocoa on the Mac, I noticed that when you try to get the contents of an NSView object as a PDF (there's a method that does this, forget the name), the view's drawRect method gets called to render the contents. So theoretically you can design a view to sense that its contents are being captured and render itself differently (with higher resolution for example might make sense in some applications; or not render at all as in your case).
    It may be that something like this could work for you. The difficult part is having the view that draws your sensitive image sense whether the drawRect is called for legitimate screen drawing or for drawing into a bitmap as may happen when trying to take a screenshot. Perhaps you could examine the innards of the graphics context in some way to achieve this? Or you could set a flag somewhere in your code whenever you call the view's setNeedsDisplay method, and in drawRect only render the image if that flag is set.
    Of course, we don't know the mechanism the iPhone uses for taking screenshots, it's possible that it all happens on a lower level of the operating system and the screen image is simply directly copied to a bitmap in which my suggestion will not work.
    Anyway it's an interesting question, let us know if you figure it out.
