Cursor vanishing

Hi, I have a new macbook and I am finding that when I write on my mac, e.g on this, msn, google searches etc, then I go to use my cursor to point at something it isnt there, and it takes maybe 3 to 4 seconds to reappear, its almost as though it is stuck. i have used macs before and i have never had this problem with the cursor before. Does anyone know how I might resolve this or know why this might be happening?
Thanks, J

  • My cursor vanishes when I run a film downloaded from iTunes Store, why?

I have noticed that under some, possibly graphics related, circumstances the cursor vanishes. The latest instance of this has been once a film has been selected from iTunes and it loads then starts to run. If I want to control anything, e.g. sound, access menu, cannot do it.
Is this Lion related, a fault re the Intel HD graphics, the NVIDIA GeForce GT330M card or what?
    Has anyone else experienced this?
It has also happened running iWork apps and some other apps, so it may be graphics or memory related.

    Hello sheeps7879,
On your iPod, head to Videos -> Video Settings and make sure the TV Out option is set to Off.

  • Cursor vanishing in CS3

Sorry if this a repeat but I could not find info on this anywhere i looked-
PROBLEM: My tool cursor vanishes when I move it on the the canvas to work on the art/image/photo. There is nothung, no dot, no crosshairs, nothing. The only tool cursors that show up are - Move, Crop, Slice, Pen, Path, Notes, Eyedropper, Hand and Zoom.
WHAT I HAVE DONE TO TRY TO FIX IT: I reset all the tools, I have tryed changing prefrences, I have checked my key board to see if I have hit a key that may have doe something to hide it but I dont see anything there ether.
MY COMPUTER: I'm not good on the hardware side so bear with me. I know its loaded but thats it. I will just copy paste the info:

Ok, now that I've given you all the info I can think of... Does anyone know how I can get my cursor back? Its like I'm working in the dark with out it on my tools. I dont work with the x/y thing and thats the only way I sorta know where my cursor is... PLEASE HELP!

Ok, sorry about not putting some of the information. It is mac OS 10.0.1, Photoshop 10.5.7 and the mac mouse.
I tried what you said about making a new user and opening photoshop in it to see if it still did it(had missing tool cursors) and photoshop worked fine. I tried the Option+Command+Shift as you start photoshop but nothing happened, as per the FAQs. Then I saw that I had missed the part about trashing the photoshop folder (Open the Preferences folder in the Library folder, and drag the Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder to the Trash.  New Preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop) till you mentioned it. It works fine now! Thanks a Bunch!

  • I have upgraded thunderbird to v28 but now when I 'insert a link' I find that the cursor vanishes off of the screen.

Since the upgrade to Thunderbird v28 I have found that if I insert a link to a web page then the cursor vanishes and I am unable to tell where I am.

    Hi MGB65,
Thunderbird is only on version 24, unless you are asking about Firefox the Browser :-)?
If you copy a link and right click "Paste" in the url bar then the webpage will load. If you need some help please check out [[Use the Awesome Screen to search the web, bookmarks and more]] to find out more about the awesome bar.

  • Since 5.1, cursor vanishes with Flash Applications

    Hello Community,
    I am using OS 10.6.8, Safari 5.1
When using a Flash Application (Gliffy, Fishville), the cursor disappears (only to reappear when you click out of safari and then mouse back in).
Earlier versions of Safari do not show this problem.
Suggestions to reinstall Flash and to use the non-debugger version of Flash were not successful.
Suggestions to delete the plist were not successful either.
Is this related to: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/905/cpsid_90508.html#main_Flash_Player ?
    Thanks,

    Do you have ClickToFlash installed?
    Look here  >  ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Also, try uninstalling then reinstalling the Flash plugin.
Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
If that doesn't help try deleting Flash cookies.

  • Photoshop CC Vanishing cursor and freezing tools.

Any fixes coming for PSCC when the cursor vanishes (Don't say it's an Apple prob, because it only happens in PS and all 6 of my machines.) Also the tools freeze quite often and won't come back until I touch the desktop. Then PS plays catch up doing every click or hit I happen to hit in frustration.  Help so I don't feel bad paying as little as I do per month fo this. Reinstalled it twice from a clean install. This is not a release ready product. BTW I have been using PS since 1994 to color comic books and with photography.

Yep, I remember you.  (but I haven't seen Jeromy in a few years)
The disappearing cursor bug in MacOS can affect any program.  Unfortunately we don't know all the details of the bug, but Apple is well aware of the problem.
For the freezing/event queueing problem: we're trying to get disk images that can reproduce it, so we can set up a duplicate system here to reproduce it.  It's something we're going to have to debug for a while to figure out the cause.  A few users have said that using different versions of the Wacom driver made the problem go away, or at least happen a lot less often.

  • Vanishing cursor problem

new imac 24' with a vanishing cursor problem, once or twice a day my cursor vanishes sometimes I can get it back by hitting the force quit shortcut keys at which point it will appear in the force quit dialog box, sometimes this does not work, at which point I have to reboot by holding down the power button, while in the force quit dialog box without the cursor visible i can use keyboard to quit all open apps and relaunch the Finder this has no effect.
uplugging and replugging has no effect, plugging into a different port has no effect, using two different usb mice has no effect.
I am using a logitech laser mouse that works perfectly on two other macs, the problem occurs with or without the logitech software running and also occured using the steermouse mouse driver.
all software appears to be up to date using software update ect.
cursor does not just become invisible, panning madly around with the mouse produces no effect in terms of opening the dock or whatever.
    Help please!

Try posting in the MacBook Pro forum. We in the old G4 Tower forum are not familiar enough with the new systems to give out any advice!
    Cheers!

  • Flashing text cursor not visible on portion of screen

I've searched all over the internet, and no one has a correct answer for this problem. Apparently the issue has been happening since as far back as CS2. The flashing text cursor is only visible in the upper left hand portion of the screen. If the text your are attempting to edit is on the far right or bottom of the screen, the cursor vanishes. Some people have suggested zooming in and out, but this only appears to solve the problem because the art board may get nudged into the "good" portion of the screen. I did a screen shot and found that the cursor is only visible in about a 930p x 600p area of the window (not including toolbars). Incindentally, the is the same size that the window defaults to when initially opened. On a HD monitor, this amounts to a very small space. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

You're not going to like me for this but it is intended to help you.
The idea that there is "Nothing on my system should have any effect on the Adobe software," is not a good concept, if you or I were engineers we might, and I mean might be able to determine that to be so.
But even a software engineer might not be able to determine this uunoess the did some trouble shooting.
Let me ask you a few question that help pinpoint a problem. Do you do any gaming on your system? Do you hsave any utility software installed? Any free fonts or fonts from small software developers?
Perhaps it is just the preferences which ahve to be refreshed.
    1. Quit Illustrator.
    2. Rename the AIPrefs file (for example, to AIPrefs.old) in the Users/(user)
    /AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings folder.
    3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
But it sounds like a conflict to me.

  • Cursor - Disappering

    Dear all,
Just today, the cursor on my MBP keeps disappearing and it's VERY annoying.
This is not in a certain application!
    Why is this?

    Hi,
One of my laptops at home does that. Suddenly, for no apparent reason the cursor (arrow) vanishes, it reappears once the mouse is moved, but often it takes a bit of a second to see it again.
I narrowed it down to my gf's way of using Safari. She's doing a lot of research and often has 3 or 4 Safari windows open, each with up to 50 tabs. By then the 2GB od RAM is almost gone and so is the cursor. Strangely enough, there is no other indication of being "out of RAM" (maybe 5MB free or so). The computer is not slowing down (visually) just the cursor vanishes...
    Bizarre.
    Hope this helps.

  • IBook G4 cursor disappears after two minutes.

On a early 2004 G4 iBook (1.2 ghz) the cursor disappears two minutes after booting. I have enought time to do one disc utility repair before the cursor vanishes. The reults of the repair were minor permissions repairs to library items. Booted with battery only and with A/C, but get same results.

You have the original installation and restore discs? These would be Mac OS X 10.3.x (most often 10.3.5).
You don't have the installation disc for Mac OS X 10.4? This is what you would need to attempt a repair of the hard drive.
Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode? This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
You will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Repair permissions on it.
It sounds like there could be a problem with the hard drive. See if a little hard drive maintenance alleviates the problem.

  • MacBook Pro mid-2012 : Slow. Sudden kernel panics. Random Restarts.

My mid 2012 MacBook Pro 15" (Running Mavericks) has recently been getting slower, performance-wise. Apps such as Safari, MS Office and OSX Mail are increasingly frequently - not always -  hanging and performing sluggishly.
The sudden kernel panics are now causing me headaches. It's frequently when I am composing email messages in Mail when the system freezes, the cursor vanishes and I have to hold down the power key to force restart.
Usually the system will restart and shortly thereafter, suddenly shut down and restart.
The underside of the laptop is extremely hot to touch. I cannot hear the fan.
I have been in touch with Apple online support who suggested a number of possible fixes, which I tried. These seemed to make little difference. I have not however taken the final suggestion to wipe my machine entirely and reinstall Mavericks. I am now feeling I should do this. If any helpful soul here could provide me with any insight or advice, I would be terribly grateful. Should it be of any help, I am pasting my last crash report below. Many thanks
Edit: It happened again just while I was writing this! Grey startup screen had strips of white text on black bars all the way down the left side. What on earth is the matter with this laptop!

  • No 1080p for HDTV in PrefPane

    Hi,
I try to setup my HDTV (Samsung LE-40M86BDX) on my MacMini and I can't set the native resolution to 1920x1080 progressive.
The TV is connected trough an DVI to HDMI cable on a specific HDMI/DVI port on the TV. The LE-40M is a FullHD 1080p which supports 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p on this port.
In PrefPane on MacMini Intel and my Powerbook G4 10.4.10, the TV is seen as a Samsung TV with some resolution as 1280x720p. But the maximal resolution I can choose is 1920x1080 interleaved... It's not possible to choose 1920x1080p which doesn't appear.
Using DisplayConfigX, I can set a 1080p resolution which works... but the program is awful to use, and after choosing this resolution the cursor vanish on the screen (in fact the cursor becam a lot of small point as signal noise).
If I use other operating system as Windows I have no problem using 1080p through the DVI to HDMI cable...
1080i look bad on FullHD TV...

In fact GMA950 support 2048x1536 at 75 Hz maximum resolution... the bandwith is the maximum a single DVI link could support (~160MHz).
Well, sort of. The subsystem's bandwidth is dependent on the memory bus speed of the system it is attached to, & to a lesser extent by the CPU's performance & the characteristics of the display signal. In the Mac Mini, the maximum supported resolution is 1920 by 1200 pixels, & up to either 135 Mhz or 154 MHz, depending on the 'coherency' (huh?) of the display. (reference: Mac mini (Late 2006) - Technical Specifications)
Plus, from what I can tell from Intel's documentation, 1080p is/isn't supported, apparently depending on the performance of the overall architecture, although this is discussed in a Windows context so I have no idea how it applies to OS X.

  • PhotoShop Liquify Filter Not Working

First of all, sorry if I'm posting in the wrong area! I've recently purchased Photoshop CS6 extended and I was very excited to start using it. I went onto the liquify filter to start editing an image and noticed something incredibly strange. Usually, the liquify tool will have the image on the left hand side pf the screen for editing, right? Well, Not only did it have the image, but also part of the main Photoshop screen surrounding it. Now, at this point I though; "Huh, strange" , and not much else. I carried on and selected a tool to start editing. However, when I hovered over the image, the cursor disappeared! At this point I was confused and thought I had pressed something on the keyboard which had caused this, so I quit and went back on. This time, instead of accessing the liquify page by going Fliter > Liquify... , I pressed Ctrl - Shft - X, only to find the same outcome. Can somebody please help me with this problem?
You may notice that in this image there is no cursor. As metioned earlier, the cursor vanishes when hovering over the image. You may also notice that the image is surrounded by dark grey, this is the main screen where the majority of the work is done in Photoshop. One strange thing I have noticed is that, when using the Hand Tool the cursor appears. I also can not warp the image while the cursor is missing, or resize it for that matter...Please help?

Like I said, sorry if I'm posting in completely the wrong place. First time here and hopefully the last if I don't encounter anymore problems!

  • Bugs in Mountain Lion

    Anyone else having these issues?
    NOTES APP
The cursor vanishes and I need to quit and re-launch the app to get it back. This happens after the app has been open for a period of time.
Loss of Sound in certain apps
After my Mac is open and running for a period of time some apps no longer chime or play sounds. Taking a picture of the screen Command + Shift + 3 is one of them, MS Outlook is another, and Messages, etc. NOTE there is nothing wrong with my hardware as all other apps play sound just fine, and sounds for MS outlook and such are re-stored after a reboot. This has to be a software glitch in Mountain Lion.
No I have no re-installed my OS or done a clean install as it would probably be a waste of time since I doubt it would fix the problem. I have taken these steps and spent many hours in the past only to find out that it did not solve the problem.

Try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • My BB internet browser has no menu

Basically, ever since I got my BB in Oct 2010, the BB browser has been working fine.
But only recently I can't use it properly because its menu has randomly disappeared.
What I mean is, is that there's that button you press to get the menu (the BB logo button) on BlackBerry. I press that on the browser and what that now does is that it makes my cursor vanish from the screen and it shows no menu on the browser.
True, I can use the browser shortcuts (for example, R means refresh) but there are so many I have to remember and I don't want to do that. All I want is to press the menu button and for the menu to appear.
    I've restarted it, nothing happened.
I do have another, faster browser (BOLT) but you can't watch videos on there.
I use the BB browser to watch videos and also other things.
Is there any way to fix this problem or can it be possible to delete and reinstall the BB browser?
    Thanks.

    How did you 'restart'?
Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner:
With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescirbed for most gltiches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.
