Curupt Files in CS2

Just curious if anyone has run into a problem where their indd files become curupt as well as any linked files to that document...
I have many files that have become curupt over the past week, all say that the file type isn't correct and can't be open... All say that they were last modified on the same day at around the same time, always around 10 am...
Can someone please help me?! I have thousands of dollars of client ads in those files that would be irreplaceable.
Thanks in Advance...

Before you begin, you should probably back up you data.
The first thing I would try, is to reset the file association in Explorer. Tools > Folder options > File types and scroll down to.indd. If it isn't in the list, add it.
Select it from the list nad click the advanced button, and from the action list choose open, then click edit.
If InDesign is NOT listed in field for Application Used to Perform This Action, clcik the browse button and find InDesign.exe. The full path should be listed in quotes. If not there after the path to indesign, also type in theis field a space followed by "%1" (include the quotes).
Say OK, apply, etc.
If that doesn't do it, the next step is to replace your preferences. IMMEDIATEY after clicking the icon to launch ID, hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (you have to be very fast) and say yes to the confirmation dialog. If you don't see it, you need to try again, and be faster. This method will remove all customizations from ID, so if you have a lot of presets and such, you might want to do the repalcement manually, and save these things to external files first. See the comments in Adobe InDesign CS4 * Setting preferences. This is for CS4, but the method is essentially the same for CS2. The files you need to rename are the same, but are both located inthe Application Data/InDesign/Version 4.0 folder instead of being split up.
If it still doesn't work, it's time to haul out the disks. You can try a repair from the installer, but most likely you'll need to uninstall and reinstall from scratch.

  • Help with Canon G9 RAW file in CS2

    I have CS2, and I recently purchased a Canon G9. I noticed that there is an update for Camera RAW that listed the G9 in it. But the update for CS2 doesn't. Can someone point me to how I can read G9 RAW file in CS2?
    Thanks.

    Use the most recent DNG Converter (version 4.3.1 part of the Camera Raw 4.3.1 download) and convert the G9 files to DNG. Course, with this nice new camera, it would be a real shame to be stuck on Camera Raw 3.x cause Camera Raw 4.x (and Photoshop CS3) is a powerful and worthwhile update.

  • Cannot Open 'CS3 file in CS2' - programmatically handle this dialog

    I am running a Visual Basic app that cycles through a collection of InDesign documents performing actions. We are using CS2 and the problem occurs when a CS3 document is encountered, which hangs the app. When opening the file manually the following error dialog is encountered:
    Cannot open "xxxx.indd". Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the lastest version of Adobe InDesign.
    InDesign is launched by:
    appInDesign = CreateObject("InDesign.Scripting.CS2")
    User interaction is suppressed:
    appInDesign.ScriptPreferences.UserInteractionLevel = InDesign.idUserInteractionLevels.idNeverInteract
    Documents are opened by:
    docInDesign = appInDesign.Open(<FilePath>, False)
    How do you handle/identify this dialog/error without user interaction (I would like to skip the file)?
    Thanks in advance

    If you opening CS3 file in CS2 you alway get error message.
    I think best solution is check indesign document version before opening it.
    I have code for checking indesign version but it is Javascript code.
    But it will give you idea how you can check indesign version and skip that files.
    Here below is code:
    f = File.openDialog ('Select file', undefined, false);
    alert('Indesign version: '+getFileVersion(f));
    function getFileVersion(f){
    var IDVersion;
    f.open('r')
    f.seek(29, 0)
    IDversion = f.readch().charCodeAt(0);
    f.close();
    return (IDversion);

  • Is it possible to open PageMaker files in CS2? or CS6?  How can I download it while keeping my CC2014?

    Is it possible to open PageMaker files in CS2? or CS6?  How can I download it while keeping my CC2014?
    Can someone give me step by step instructions?

    Asking about InDesign? Up to CS6, I read somewhere. For instructions you might find it better to ask in the InDesign forum, rather waiting for someone to stumble into this forum - look there goes a tumbleweed!

  • Opening CS3 Files With CS2

    I am running iMacs (Leopard). I have CS2 on 1 machine, CS3 on the other.
    When I try to open a CS3 file with CS2, I get a long list of extensions/plug ins that need to be updated.
    Where can I find the updates?
    Thanks.

    I assume you're referring to InDesign (please post application specific
    question in the application forums), you'll need to export as INX and
    open that.
    Don't expect perfection.
    You can search the InDesign forums for INX for more info.

  • Using Olympus Raw files on CS2

    I have Photoshop CS2 and a brand new Olympus E-PL5.  How do I view the RAW files in CS2?  I've tried using DNG converter 7.3, but it still gives me an error when I try to open either the ORF or DNG filetype.  Also, the Camera Raw plugin says 3.7 currently in the Help menu... is this what is screwing me up?  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    What operating system are you using?
    Were you able to convert the olympus E-PL5 files to dng with the 7.3 dng converter?
    Did you try placing a shortcut to the 7.3 dng converter on your desktop and just dragging one of your E-PL5 files onto the shortcut
    to see if it works?
    Photoshop cs2 only goes to camera raw 3.7, but should open converted dng files.
    Although sometimes one has to use the compatibilty settings in the dng converter for the particular camera raw plugin one has.

  • How to open an Adobe CS4 file in CS2?

    Is there a workaround that will allow a friend o open one of my CS4 files in CS2? Exporting it as an inx file apparently doesn't do the trick, because it'll only open it in CS3. Any help would be appreciated!

    Found a solution! It's detailed at http://indesignsecrets.com/double-downsave.php just in case anyone else needed to know.

  • No video, only audio when importing .avi file into CS2

    I recorded 920p footage on a GoPro Hero 3 at 50fps. GoPro recordes MP4 files, I wanted to edit the footage in PP CS2 as it gives me more control than GoPro studio.
    I used GoPro Studio to convert the MP4 files into avi files and amended the white balance and saturation etc, as I recorded using Pro Tune which gives a flatter colour profile.
    The avi files run well in Windows Media Player (although don't seem to have the clarity of video's on the GoPro website!)
    I have then imported the avi files into CS2 to put together the edit and I can only hear the audio and can't see the video in the source stream or the program stream.
    I assume I have a setting wrong in CS2, could any one advise what I need to change to get the problem rectified?
    I was planning on exporting the finished problem at 720p if makes a differance

    Also, CS2 has a different forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/premierepro_previous

  • Issues opening RAW files with CS2...

    I find if a bit complicated to open RAW files with Photoshop CS2 in iPhoto 08 (I'm using OS X 10.5). Currently the only way I've been able to do this is do a search for the file name in the finder, at the bottom of the Finder window, in the path, double click on the folder that the RAW files are in (user/my name/pictures/iphoto library/originals/2007/RAW files), then highlight the NEF files (the cameras a Nikon D200) I want to open, hit command/O then Photoshop CS2 opens the files in the RAW converter. If I try this from CS2 (command/O) the path goes as for as iphoto library (user/my name/pictures/iphoto library), at this point the iphoto library icon is ghosted out and can not be opened. If I drag and drop the image from iPhoto to the CS2 icon in the dock it opens as a jpg not the RAW file I need. If I try clicking my way to the folder from the left side of the finder, my name/pictures/iphoto library this is as far as I can go. There's something strange going on here. How can you go to a folder only one way and not the others? There seems to "hidden" folders now.
    So... My question (finally), how can I simply open RAW files from iPhoto 08 in CS2?

    In iPhoto's Advanced preferences select the checkbox under RAW Photos: "Use RAW when using external editor". That will open the Cr2 file in the raw editor. To get the edit to show in iPhoto you'll need to click on the Open Image button so the jpg version is created with the edits you made to the RAW file. Then when you save you'll need to navigate in the Save window to the Modified folder and save it into the folder representing the event that the original is in. It's not easy. I've not done much with RAW, just a few tests, so there may be an easier way to get iPhoto to recognize the edited version.
    If you don't use the Open File and close iPhoto won't display the edits you made to the RAW file.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Error 1310.Error writing to file for CS2 install on Win7 for Adobe 7 Pro

    I have Adobe 7 Pro that needs to be installed on a Win7 machine that is not supported by Adobe.  They provide a CS2 version with a new serial number for replacement of my product since my product cannot be activated anymore.
    When I try to install it, I get the following error after the install process has started.
    Error 1310.Error writing to file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Active X\AcroPDF.DEU.  Verify that you have access to that directory.
    I am the admin for my machine and I also tried installing their version as the admin as well.
    Any help on getting thru this?

    Hi shooter-1971,
    Acrobat 7 is not supported on windows 7.
    But you might want to refer to the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the KB Doc : http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-1310-error-writing-file.html
    Error 1310 is usually related to insufficient permissions on the folder. Please try enabling the hidden Admin account on Windows 7 and try installing the software and check.

  • Opening CS4 files in CS2?

    Very long story short... I purchased a laptop in Aug last year eligible for a free windows 7 upgrade.  I let it sit for a while, as I knew my cs2 will work with windows 7.  I did install the free trials of CS4 (AI and PSD) and worked with them for the month.  My upgrade disk for Win 7 arrived and I just completed the upgrade.  However...  I think many of my AI files are saved in CS4 format -- I THINK I did the compatibility thing, but I'm not 100% sure.
    Do you think I'll have any problems -- almost all are very simple vector art files?
    If so then I'm thinking of just redoing the whole OS, reinstalling the 30-day trial simply to convert my files for compatibility and then reinstalling my cs2.  I really like cs4, but don't want to spend money on the upgrade right now.  And I'd rather not spend the time redoing the OS if the general concensus is that my files will be functional.
    Thanks for your help.
    -Kristie

    I feel like they'll work.  Worst case, maybe I can pay someone a few bucks to throw them into AI and change to compatibility mode if I have any problems.
    I did work with an artist's CS4 files when I was on CS2 and the only thing it seemed to do was add a couple of weird paths.  So if you selected all the items in a piece of vector art and it set the frame around it to show the selection, it would include an area of white space, normally below the artwork because there was some random point down there -- deleting it solved that problem...  Hopefully it's the worst thing that will happen.
    Thanks for your help!!

  • Linking files In CS2

    I'm a bit confused regarding Linking in CS2 (we will be going to CS4 in August)
    I have created a sticky grid and have imported Ordnance Survey map tiles into Illustrator and have linked them. The map tiles are essentially small referenced bits of map in tif format that can be put together seamlessly to form a base map of any part of the british isles. I have linked them but the files size still seems to be as large as if they were embedded. Illustrator refuses to save a file which contains more than around 20 of these linked tiles (it does let you work on the file though and import the tiles which is pretty frustrating!!). Typically the file size with 20 tiles would be around 100Mb when saved. I need to work with up to 50 tiles in a file. Once the files are in place, I open up a new layer and add some pretty rudimentary symbology which is effectively single or 2 colour linework with some text. Embedding doesn't solve the problem either. If anyone can shed any light on thid problem i'd be grateful or if you fancy a play I've attached a typical tile

    Your tile is still listed as queued, so I can't view it, but my guess is, that you simply hit a performance snag when AI is flattening the preview for saving. What I would do is to select the layers and disable their Preview option. This way, the program should not render anything in the main document and be able to save it. It's still a kludge, though, so the question becomes, on what system you are working.

  • Problem opening up a RAW file with CS2

    I just bought an Olympus E30 camera and shot in RAW. When I uploaded to my computer I was able to open them up with the Olympus editing program but when I try to open in CS2 it gives me an error message that it doesn't recognize the file. File example: _C181661.ORF

    In order for photoshop cs2 to open the E30 files you need to use the 6.6 DNG Converter to convert your files to dng copies and then cs2 should be able to open them.

    Also the newest camera raw plugin for cs2 is 3.7

  • Large tff files in cs2

    I have cs2, old I know, and find I can't open large tff or raw files, only jpeg. I want to use the non-compress files from my camera. Any suggestions? I heard there was a update a few years ago to allow such. Any help will be appreciated. I don't use the program enough to buy the new version.
    thanks, dale

    Which operating system are you using?
    Is photoshop cs2 updated to version 9.0.2 and camera raw 3.7?
    (you can get the photoshop updates from here: Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows)
    What happens when you try to open the files?
    Have you tried restting the photoshop cs2 preferences?
    By Raw files, do you mean camera raw files from a camera and if so, which one?
    How big in terms of pixel dimensions are the tif files your trying to open and are they from your camera or some other source?

  • How do I save a CS3 PSD File as CS2?

    A client with CS2 can't open my CS3 files and I can't figure out how to create a legacy file in CS3. Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    D.

    Or, simplify the psd. If (for instance) the psd has 150 layers or so it is often possible to merge groups. This way you can save transparency but apply things that might have been interpreted incorrectly by cs2.
    Also when you client says they can't open the files, is that a new feature? In the past if one opened a file from a later photoshop (as you are doing) the file would get misinterpreted but it would open. To just not open is something that ID or quark did, but not photoshop.
    I suppose it is safer that way.
