Curve 8330 always freezing

Hi,
I can't take this anymore, my curve is ALWAYS freezing at least 4 times a day, and this happens during any activity. It happens during phone calls and I am unable to hang up, or do anything in a call, this happened while I was on the phone yesterday and lasted for 7 minutes. It also freezes almost EVERY TIME i try to access the app world, so I have given up on using that, and often when it happend with the app world I have to do a battery pull reset. I pretty much cant upgrade any apps due to this.
Also at times when I try to exit applications (even basic ones such as Options), the phone stays frozen on a solid white screen for several minutes.
Device info
Your carrier: Telus
Model info and OS version: 8330, v4.5.0.186
Apps and free space
File free before and after a battery remove/replace: 10273225 bytes free
I have tried virtually ALL suggestions.
1. I have a 1gb SD card in the phone with all media stored on it.
2. I only have the basic background apps running ( home, phone, messages, browser, blackberry messenger, Enhance G-mail plug-in
3. 10273225 bytes free
4. I have removed apps that arent used frequently.
I just bought this phone about 2 months ago and I am so sick of it already with how slow it is.
ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated

Im with Telus also, the freezing when I tried to end a call has happened to me a couple of times, usually I just take the battery out, but if it's doing that often, I would do a back up on you bb desktop, wipe the phone clean, back to default settings (telus technical support can help you with that) then restore the phone. If that doesnt work, take it back to Telus and they will send the phone off for repairs or they will replace the phone.

  • Blackberry curve 8330 keeps freezing during messages

My curve keeps freezing while I'm sending text messages. It takes a little too long for the phone to go through the commands I tell it to once I send a message for instance: I press send but the screen freezes, but while frozen I press back key and then the mute key to lock it. It's still frozen. What do I do? I've reduced the memory and deleted unwanted applications.

Options > SMS > Number of previous items, set that lower to like 2 or 3
Then, With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
Now see if that helps some.

Hi!Have you done a hard reset?
A hard reset is similar to restarting a computer that stops responding. A hard reset closes all running BlackBerry applications, restarts the BlackBerry smartphone operating system, and restarts the hardware components of the BlackBerry smartphone, including the wireless transceiver.
Note: A hard reset does not delete any settings or data on the BlackBerry smartphone.
To perform a hard reset, complete the following steps:
    Turn the BlackBerry smartphone off.
    Remove the battery.
    Reinsert the battery.
Wait for the BlackBerry smartphone to turn on.
    also,
Confirm that all installed third-party applications are approved for the device
Make sure that all third-party applications installed on the BlackBerry smartphone are approved for the device. If the issue persists, remove third-party applications to make sure these are not affecting performance.
    And don't forget,
    Maximize flash memory
You can keep the BlackBerry smartphone operating at peak efficiency by maximizing the available flash memory. Increase the amount of memory available on your BlackBerry smartphones by completing the following tasks:
    Add a media card
    Delete unused languages
    Delete call logs
    Delete sample video
Clear Cache and Cookies in Browser
    Remove rarely used applications
    Delete old data

  • Can't open picture attachments on BlackBerry Curve 8330

I just traded my Pearl 8130 for the Curve 8330 yesterday.  While I think I made the right decision, I'm a little annoyed by the fact that for the most part, I can't open email attachments.  Keep in mind, this is when I actually use the Internet Browser to access my various accounts.  In other words, I'm actually going to www.gmail.com and www.hotmail.com.  When I get into my Hotmail, it'll show the paper clip signifying an attachment but won't give me any sort of option to open it.  It just lists the file name(s) and that's it.  When I go into my gmail, if I've got an email that only contains one or two pictures it'll usually open those.  But any more than that and it's the same deal with Hotmail, except that it'll actually have the "6 Attachments" link that I can actually click, but when I do it just lists the file names in regular type and there's no option whatsoever to open them.  It doesn't open any kind of thumbnail either.
It's kind of a bummer to me because I have a lot of saved pictures in my email accounts that I'd like to save on my phone as well.  If all BlackBerrys are like that, I'll just deal with it and shut up.  When I get email attachments in the accounts I've set up to go directly to my BlackBerry I can always open them, so maybe this is just normal for BlackBerrys.  But if mine is actually having a problem I'd really like to get it fixed.  If that's the case, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do?  I already resent Service Books and took the battery out and put it back in.  That's all I've tried so far.  If all else fails I can just take it in to Alltel to have it looked at but it'd be nice to avoid having to do that.    I know there are other ways to go about this... I can always just manually move them to my phone's memory card from the computer and stuff.  Getting them directly from my email would just be a little quicker.
    Thanks, everyone!

Blackberry browser isnt exactly the same as a browser on your PC. It has limitations, such as sizes. when you added the email to your BIS account its now mail on your device which is the primary function of a blackberry. when using BIS or BES emails, they are designed to truncate if too big, but if you wish to look at more it gives you that option. www.hotmail.com is not designed to accomodate blackberry. Your best option is to stay to the BIS email option.
Not to mention it uses less of your data bandwidth to use BIS email rather than browsing to www.hotmail.com

  • My curve 8330 just stopped synchronizing with my Calendar

I have Vista & 2007 Outlook - my blackberry Curve 8330 synchronized with my Outlook Calender last weekend but when I try to do it this weekend it won't do it. It tries but just stops. I can sync my contacts fine.
I have deleted the intellisync folder and it didn't help.
I am pretty sure I have updated everything.
    Could you plese help?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forums
As always, have you tried a battery pull?
    1. Remove the battery while phone is turned on
    2. Wait a few seconds before inserting it again
    3. Allow the long boot up process to finish (takes a few minutes usually)
Have you checked your synchronization settings in desktop manager and reconfigured them?
Do you have the latest version of Desktop Manager? Should be 5.0
Try a clean uninstall of Desktop Manager and then reinstall the latest version:
    Uninstall instructions here - http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02206
Latest version available here - https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do
Configure the synchronization again and try.
To help you better can you provide your phone's OS version. Go to options>about, 3rd line down is 4.X.X.XXX. What is your Desktop Manager version and are you getting any error messages while synching? The more specific information you can provide the easier it is to get to the right solution
    Cheers,

  • Can I install BBM 5.0.0.57 in a Curve 8330 with OS 4.5.0.77?

I'm from Venezuela. I want to know if I can install with no problems in the future the new BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.0.57 in my BlackBerry Curve 8330. The carrier is Movilnet THANK YOU

I think they are preserved by the update, but I am no longer sure. I don't recall how your version of BBM works, but dig around inside of it to see if it has the feature for backing up the contacts (to your Media Card, for example)...if so, use that as a secondary precaution. No guarantees.

  • Blackberry Curve 8330 and Desktop Manager v5.0

I have a BB curve 8330 running the current device software, BB Desktop manager v5.0 and Outlook 2007 on Windows Vista and have just recently experienced problems syncing.  I continue to get an error message such as below...
Faulting application DesktopMgr.exe, version 5.0.0.11, time stamp 0x4a4bd539, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e03821, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x000afaf8, process id 0x1dc, application start time 0x01ca41d751046e2b.
I've tried everything I can think of from reinstalling DTM, previous versions of DTM...getting rid of the "intellisync" folder that others have discussed...scanning my PST and OST files for errors, reconfiguring the sync settings...all with the same result.  Everything is fine until it goes to read the calendar off of outlook and sync it...then it crashes saying the program has to close and windows will notify me if there is a solution....I've even tried running DTM with Vista's "Administrator" option and no dice...
I'm thinking this is an issue either with DTM or with the latest Vista Update (Windows 7 can't come soon enough!)....anyone else have any other ideas as to what this could be???

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
While you have tried many things, I cannot tell if you have tried this...so apologies if it is redundant in any way.
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Curve 8330 Stereo Headset Issue.

Hello, I purchases a new Curve 8330 a few days ago and the headset which was included with it (the 3.5mm 4 Pole Stereo Headset) does not work when I play music from the Internet or from the Media. It also doesn't work with any calls. The volume always comes out of the speaker in the phone, not the headphones. Is the headset exclusively for Bluetooth use? My iPod headphones work on my Curve and the Curve headphones work with my iPod, so I'm confused.
I read the previous posts related to headset issues and I couldn't find an answer to this. Thank you!

I'm having a similar problem... my blackberry headset does not work properly. I mean.. it was working when I first got it-- and then all of a sudden, it stopped. It was cold outside, and I never really thought about it again. I was frustrated... and about a week ago I called tech support to inquire...
They siad my blacberry headset jack was most likely damaged, as:
My boyfriend also has a blackberry, and I had the same problem with his out-of-box blackberry headset. (It would work, and then not work unless I pulled it out of the jack slightly).
Regular headphones I use with my ipod worked just fine in my blackberry (curve, by the way).
My headset worked in a sales associate phone when I took it into the store. Granted... my store doesn't fix blackberries-- they just have you send them in.
Luckily... I'm under warently. I wish I weren't so in love with this phone... it seems to be really fragile. My last one was coming apart at the seams in the back around the battery come day 2....
... wait until you try to upgrade your phone's software...... whew. It's rough.
--- ps. it's working plugged in right now and i'm indoors...

  • Curve 8330 Voice dialing and sound problems, Please help!

I got this black berry curve 8330 from a friend on the weekend to replace my broken Pearl. He said it worked fine but it sometimes had a voice dialing problem. After wiping all the personal data and activating the phone the voice dialing went nuts. Every 6 to 9 sec the voice dialing would activate with no sound. meaning you don't hear the lady voice say, "say a command". After reading many forums posts I download memmax and removed all VAD files. But I will still left with no sound. I went and did a test on the hardware and the speaker and microphone both worked fine. Puzzled I tried playing a ringtone, , it plays maybe the first second of the file and then the sounds goes away but I am able to get it back by press the Speaker/$ key. I then tried making a phone call and the phone was working just fine. About an hour later I tired calling someone and the issue had raisin again. This time I was unable to get the sound back. (I tried resetting many times with no success.) I could still play media files, but was unable to get sound making or receiving calls (this includes the other party not being able to hear me as well.) I tired changing profiles with no success. I then did some more reading and tried updating the OS. Once that was done and voice dialing had been reinstalled and started acting up again. SO I removed it and basically everything happened all over again. So right now I have a phone that I can’t make calls on but I can still text and use the internet. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Should I try wiping the OS and reinstall or is this phone toast?

  • Curve 8330 SMS/MMS not forwarding..PLEASE HELP!

Hello...I have had my new Curve 8330, software version 4.5.0.77 for about 3 weeks and I am unable to forward any SMS/MMS messages that I receive.  After I read the message, I click on the berry or the center scroll button and click on forward and nothing happens.  It just stays on the message and does not go to my contacts so I can choose who to forward it to.  I've even tried going out of the actual message to my message list and choosing it that way and it still does not forward.  I can forward email messages though?  I thought maybe I needed a software upgrade, but apparently I have the current version?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks! smileyhappy:

What happens if you change the SMS and MMS setting to combine them back into your Messages list. Does it still look the same?
In the extreme case we could always clear the Messages database and see if new ones from that point are behaving the same way.

  • Transfering data using switch device manager from old palm to new curve 8330....please help!!!

Trying for hours to import data using switch device manager from old Palm Treo and Palm Desktop 4.2 to my new Blackberry Curve 8330.  Blackberry seem to connect...but second step of choising Palm or Mircrosort will not allow me to select anything.  I do not believe Palm is connecting...Is my palm to old?  If I cannot tranfer data this way, especially contacts is there any other way besides entering it into Blackberry one by one?

    Hi there!
If the device switch wizard is not working, check this KB to be sure all of your Palm things are compatible and that you are using the correct process:
KB05459 How to use the Switch Device Wizard to switch from another smartphone to a BlackBerry smartphone
And then see this KB for some troubleshooting help
KB10722 BlackBerry Desktop Manager does not detect the Palm software when using the Switch Device Wizard
And if it happens that it will not work, then you will have to find out how to export from your Palm to an ASCII or CSV file...then you can import it with this process:
KB11194 How to import contacts from an CSV file to the BlackBerry device

  • BlackBerry Curve 8330 won't boot, LED blinks and hourglass spins

I bought this pink BlackBerry Curve 8330 in December of 2008. It has worked perfectly since and I've never gotten it wet. It's been dropped 4-5 times, but never from more than 3 feet.
This afternoon, in the middle of writing a text, it suddenly powered off and the red LED light came on like it does when it is turning back on. It went off, the screen stayed black, then a few seconds later the screen turned on with an hourglass spinning for about five seconds, then the light turns off and everything goes black again for a few seconds, then the LED light comes on again and the cycle is repeated. It did this five times before I had to put it away as we drove home. When I got home, it had finally booted the whole way, but the battery was so low the radio was off, so I plugged it into the USB charger on my desktop computer.
When I came back later, the phone had stopped charging and was on a black screen with the LED light on, just like earlier. It went through this cycle a few times.
I pulled the battery and put it back in, same thing happened. Black screen, white screen with hourglass, black screen.
I plugged it back into the USB charger and as I type this, the little psycho has booted completely and it shows that it is charging.

How can I fix this so it doesn't keep happening? Thanks so much in advance.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Emails sent from Curve 8330

Emails that are sent from the Curve 8330 do not show up in Outlook after sync.  The option under Advanced Email Settings is checked so it should happen.  Does anyone know why?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
What method of reconciliation between your BB and your Email are you using?
If you are like 99% of all BB users, you are receiving your email OTA. As such, the reconciliation features between your BB and your email SERVER are governed by this KB. Reconciliation between your Outlook CLIENT and your email SERVER are governed by whatever they can do between each other -- but the BB is then out of the picture. To my understanding, Outlook has zero ability to reconcile anything in this manner against any email SERVERS except for MS Exchange.
