Curve 8330 USB connection failure(s)!

Hi.  Just purchased a BB 8339 Curve phone.  I love the phone but get USB Port Failure on both my home and work PC.  Help?  Thanks.

USB port failure? is this an error?
have you tried another cable? have tried pulling the battery for 10seconds?

I have the blackberry Curve 8330v 4.5.0.186 (Platform 3.4.0.59). For hours I have been trying to get my computer to detect. I have downloaded the drivers, which you would need to do for any device. Specifically USB and Modem Drivers 6.0. It shows up in my Device Manager Under Ports : Virtual  Serial Port v2. I also have installed Blackberry desktop software, which excutes just fine. However, my problem appears to be all though all is installed and the phone is connected to my computer, the computer isn't detecting it. When I plug it into the computer the phone lights up indicating activity, but that's the only thing that happens. The computer doesn't give me my typical "new hardware found" alert or anything remotely closeto suggesting that there is connectivity. So, after failed attempts in many areas, even trying to connect via bluetooth. My ASUS model X401U notebook running Windows 7 does not have bluetooth capablities. SO, I know there is nothing wrong with the ports as I can move my plug and play mouse to any of them successfully. My phone does not have the storage card in it , but that should not stop my computer from detecting. The cord I am using MAY be the culprit, but even so it works with another device (specifially ran from a ps3 controller to the ps3). So the cord does work. You would think if it were the cord, that it wouldn't allow the phone to light up when plugged into the computer. At this point the phone wont even try to charge when plugged in. Anyone have any suggestions?

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.

Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Support Forums.
Having a SIM card in won't matter for what you're wanting to do.
    1. Make sure you are connected to a main REAR usb port, not a front USB port or a usb hub.
    2. a. Go to Options >> Media Card
(some themes or BlackBerrys may call this "Settings >> Media Card")
    b. Check the following settings (if they are not listed this way, then change to reflect the following:
    Media Card Support: On
    Mass Storage Mode Support: On
    Auto Enable Mass Storage: Yes
    c. Save the settings and exit

  • X6 USB Connection failure HELP PLEASE :(

Hi all i'm new here, i've just bought a Nokia X6 16GB, and upon plugging it into the pc via usb, the device has no response, I have tried all settings on the device, e.g. pc suite, and mass storage, and ask upon connection, but when plugging the cable into the phone it doesn't respond, e.g it does not show you usb menu, to select which way to connect to the pc.
And the pc doesn't respond either, only recognizing the phone, as an unknown device, I have tried all of nokia's software, inc the pc suite setup, I have tried uninstalling all the software, and reinstalling, with no luck, my pc is one I have built myself running win xp 64bit pro. I have tried 2 other pc's running win vista 32bit, and they won't even show the phone in device manager, like my pc.
So i'm basically wanting to know what is wrong with my phone?? Is it a problem with the handset, or usb cable, or the 3 computers I have tried?
I have only just recived the handset from orange, so I can return it if it is a problem with the handset..
    Many thanks in advance, Ben.

Could be. Bring your X6 in and let them take a look.

  • Curve 8330 usb/charging port issues.

My 8330 just started to have problems with its usb/charge port. I plugged it in last night before bed like I always do, but when I woke up it hadn't charged a bit and wasn't even recognizing that it had been plugged in. I tried my USB data cable as well, and that didn't register either unless I wiggled the cord around and held it still once it did register. I eventually did get the phone to register that I had plugged it in, but I had to wiggle the cord just so and leave the charger half-way plugged in once I found the sweet spot.
It is a few years old and pre-owned, but this problem literally just cropped up. I haven't dropped it recently, and I only plug it in once a day. It has no problem holding a charge, but getting it to register the cord is a battle. Do I need to just replace it or is there a way to fix this? There are no other problems, just the port acting up. Thanks!

You can try contacting Sprint for repair options for your device.

  • USB connection failure

When I plug in the USB I recieve this message:
    "USB Device Not Recognized"
"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it..."
I'm unsure what I need to do to resolve this problem. Can someone help?

I'm not really up on the complexities of the Windows OS but try this tip I picked up a while back, hopefully it might help.
"USB Device not Recognized in Windows"
    1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click the System icon.
    3. Click the Hardware tab.
    4. Click Device Manager.
    5. Scroll down the list of devices to the Universal Serial Bus controllers
    6. Click the plus icon next to the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    7. Double-click one of the indented USB Root Hub entries.
    8. Click the Power Management tab.
    9. Deselect the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option.
    10. Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
    11. Restart the computer.

I am having an issues lately with every time my Curve 8330 is connected to the computer it installs the device drivers.  anyone know why this is happening??  How can I stop it?

Hello cellrev and welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
Do you have the BlackBerry® Desktop Software installed on your computer?
If you connect another USB device to your computer, does the same repetitive driver installation?
Do you have an anti-virus program installed? If so, what program?

  • Need Curve 8330 Back-up Help - USB not functional

I have a Curve 8330 - O/S v4.5.0.186 (Platform 3.4.0.59).  The USB connection is non-functional.  (I have tried several USB cords and different desktops and know that USB port on my phone is where the malfunction is located.)  I have an urgent need to back-up my contacts and other info (my last back-up is 6 months old).  My carrier suggested using Blackberry Protect, however, I keep getting "Notice: Sorry, your device does not meet the system requirements that are needed to support Blackberry App World."  However, when I try to wirelessly update my phone  it tells me "No Updates Available".
    Any suggestions?????  Thanks.

    No it doesn't .
And besides, nowhere in your earlier post do you say you can't use AppWorld, you said you couldn't download Protect because you are given a message that that appworld won't work on your device, which doesn't make sense to me since you were trying to download Protect.
Anyway, download it like I said. Just checked, you don't need AppWorld installed.

  • Curve 8330 won't connect with computer

HELP! I am going crazy trying to figure out this problem. When I plug my Blackberry Curve 8330 into my USB, it is no longer recognized. The home screen shows that it is charging, but when I open My Computer, the Blackberry does not show up as a mounted drive. When I launch Desktop Manager, it says that my phone is disconnected. I need help reconnecting my phone and my computer.
I know the problem is not the cord, because I tested it with a portable external hard drive. That also showed me that it is not a problem with the USB port.
First, I attempted the following minor solutions:
Battery pull and restart computer (duh! of course that was the first thing I tried)
Tried to reconnect via the Connection settings in DM (acts like I haven't plugged in the Blackberry)
Checked to make sure that Mass Storage mode was on in Options -> Media Card
Turned off Mass Storage, restarted both computer and BB, then turned on Mass Storage
Then, I moved on to more substantial attempted solutions:
    Reformatted the mini-SD
Completely uninstalled Desktop Manager and all BB software (followed instructions at http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02206&sliceId=SAL_Pub... for a clean uninstall).
Reinstalled new drivers and DM software
Did a FULL wipe of my BB handheld (losing all my information)
Finally, I tried the following over the top solutions:
Full wipe of my BB handheld and went back to factory settings
Used System Restore to go back two weeks on my computer.
And I still cannot get my BB to connect to my computer.
I have tried everything through page 6 at "HOWTO : use your blackberry as a USB device" (http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Desktop-Software/HOWTO-use-your-blackberry-as-a-US...), so please don't just direct me there unless you have some real insight to something I missed on those pages.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • MacBook Pro Power Failure After USB Connection

I purchased my MacBook Pro not even a few weeks ago. I've used an external hard disk drive with it fine.
Today however, I connected my iPad via USB and instantly the power failed, completely cut off!
Of course I removed the USB connection immediately and attempted to power on the MacBook Pro, but to no avail, I plugged the power cable and the status indicator on the power cable blinks between green and orange in no particular pattern and the battery level indicator on the MacBook Pro does not work (it did previously).
I realise that there is likely no hope with this situation other than to get a replacement, although my partner also has a MacBook Pro (2011) and this happened to his only yesterday, luckily his powered back on fine and seems to be working. Perhaps this is a software issue?
Although I'm doubtful, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I also have a similar problem.  Even with a full battery charge, my 11 month old MBP 15" seems to randomly do an instant and complete power-off. Like your partner,  mine will seem to work fine for a few days then abruptly just fail.  I am still troubleshooting but it seems to happen more frequently when I have something connected to the USB - like my hard drive for backup.  Please share any further info / Resolution.  I am worried I may lose everything before I can get a complete backup.

  • Curve 8330 not being recognized by the Mac Blackberry Desktop Manager . . .

I just downloaded the Mac version of BDM.  It's a long time coming, but I'm glad that it works.  I have a Pearl that was easily recognized by the software and easily synced with all my data.  However, I also have a Curve 8330 that will not sync.  In fact, when plugged into the USB port, the BDM doesn't even see that the 8330 is plugged in, it still sits there asking, "To beging, connect your device to your Mac using the supplied USB cable."
Any suggestions on what to do?
    Thanks.
    UPJ

I would suggest, first off, rebooting the Curve.
With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

  • Can't get Desktop Software to link up with Curve 8330

All the following is from running Win XP in VirtualBox.
When I hook up my Curve 8330 to the computer via USB the computer recognizes it: I'm asked to enter the Cuve's password, the Blackberry Device Manager pops up in the task bar to tell me that the Curve is connected and I can even browse the device via Explorer, but when I open the Blackberry Desktop Software (6.1.0.35) it just endlessly says it's "Connecting" without ever actually connecting.  Also, when I hook it up, the Curve's screen very briefly goes to the white "Connected to Desktop" splash before returning to normal. Mass storage mode is turned on.
Please, if you have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated; I've had some close calls recently and need to backup my numbers and data. I can't find any posts with people having similar problems.

    Hello Atimkelly,
First check your default services on the device under Options, Device, Advanced System Settings, default services.
If the default services are configured correctly I would suggest try creating a new MAPI profile as outlined in this article http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02083 and then reconfigure the Desktop Software as shown here http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB17022
