I recently  inherited a curve 8520 (v4.6.1.286 [Platform 4.2.0.122]and deleted only the facebook and yahoo messenger apps. Now,when using wi-fi, I cannot browse the internet. it says "Invalid address" all the time whatever website i browse.  Pls help?

Hello Ikko909,
Try navigating to options-advanced options-browser and make sure you select hotspot browser. Back out and save the settings, then remove the battery to restart your BlackBerry smartphone and try again.

  • Curve 8520 browser problems - please help!

    I've had my Curve 8520 for three weeks and it was working like a dream. However, yesterday evening, the browser application suddenly stopped working. I know it's not an issue with my wi-fi, as my laptop is still working fine. When I try to load the browser and visit a website, it flashes up "requesting..." as normal, and then goes to "loading" with a white screen, but refuses to load the web page. What's wrong with it? I've tried changing options in the browser configuration, but nothing works. Please help me!

    With any glitch on a BlackBerry, first off do a battery pull reboot,
    With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

  • What is wrong with my Curve 8520? Please help!

    I am having problems with my BB Curve 8520. v5.0.0.592
    First the phone started freezing all the time and I had to do a battery pull to unfreeze it, and everytime after it restarted it got the Uncaught Exception: java.lang.error.
    I uninstalled my BBM V6.1beta and my appworld 3 beta and installed the lastest official releases for them but it didn't fix the problem.
    I then deleted all the apps that I installed recently and after installing Photo Editor Ultimate the java error stopped.
    Right now the freezing is gone but now when I download pictures or songs, they don't show up anywhere on the phone. Not in the gallery and not in the file explorer. They only show up after I reboot my phone. Also when right now when I press the menue button, the menu at the left doesn't show, it only appears after I scrolled over every item in the menu, so basically it was invisible until I went up and down on the trackpad.
    What can be the problem?

    Hi MarcC8520,
    Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community.
    Try backing up your device via the BlackBerry Desktop Software and performing a clean reload of your device software. http://bbry.lv/bpv7DT Make sure to test for the issue before restoring any data from your backup file.
    Hope this helps.

  • App World doesn't appear in my Curve 8520! Please Help

    Hello. So I bought my BB curve 8520 and I've tried to install App World. It says that it is installed but when I go to my phone it's not there. I've looked everywhere and even used "show all". I've uninstalled and installed again, I tried to install from my blackberry instead of installing it from my computer and it doesn't appear. However, when I go to Options>advanced>applications it's there. What's wrong? I've been looking all around and I just don't get it.
    Help please, thank you!

  • Blackberry Curve 8520 - White Screen help!?

    Hi,
    I have started having problems with my Curve over the last couple of days.  I'm sure you have heard of the problem before, battery gets to about 20/30% life & then a white screen appears.  The only way to stop this is to plug the phone into the mains charger.
    I have read other topics suggesting I backup all data then re-install the OS..  The problem is, my Blackberry Desktop Manager won't recognise my Blackberry.  Windows makes the noise to suggest the phone has been found & the blackberry battery indicates its charging.
    All help & suggestions would be excellent, thanks in advance.

  • Correct display of characters in the Browser - Pls Help - Urgent

    Hi,
    We have a java application running on solaris 8 connected to oracle 8.1.6 database. The database characterset has been changed to WE8ISO8859P15 to support Western European Characters and the Euro symbol.
    The problem we are facing is, when the euro symbol (Alt + 0128) is entered thru the HTML form and then retrieved from the database and again displayed on the HTML form, it shows as inverted question mark or some other character.
    If any one can tell us exactly the steps to follow overcome this problem, it would be of great help. What settings have to be changed in the webserver, database and the client side so that there is proper data conversion.
    Immediate response is apprecited.
    Thanks

    Couple of samples to try:
    1)
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=ISO-8859-15" %>
    <HTML>

    <TITLE>Hello</TITLE></HEAD>

    <%
    String nameValue = request.getParameter("euro");
    String euroVal = "\u20ac";
    if (nameValue == null || nameValue.length() == 0) { %>

    <INPUT TYPE="SUBMIT">
    </FORM>
    <% }
    else
    nameValue= new String(nameValue.getBytes("ISO8859_1"), charset); %>
    <H1> Hello, <%= nameValue %> </H1>
    <%
    //insert nameValue into database

    2)

    else
    %>
    <H1> Hello, <%= nameValue %> </H1>
    <%
    //insert nameValue into database
    %>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>We have tired your code and here are the answers to your questions:
    1. Does the euro example work in your environment?No it is not working.we could not run the second example because'
    we don't have a "request.setCharacterEncoding(charset)" method.
    we are using servlet 2.2 api
    2. Is the HTML form a JSP/Servlet or a HTML calling CGI?we are having HTML/JSP form calling a servlet.
    the results and forms are always JSP.
    3. Try using a HTTP GET in the form and observe the URL on
    the browser. Does it show the parameter as:
    http://host:port/euro01.jsp?euro=%A4
    Euro symbol's code point is A4 in ISO-8859-15. We'd like to make
    sure it is not corrupted when it is sent to the server.your previous example shows it as %A4 but it is not inserting correctly
    in the database.The ascii value of the inserted value is 191 but we guess the correct
    ascii value is 164.
    4. After insertion, check the value on the database server.
    Assume you insert the data in the following table:
    create table tab01 (col01 varchar2(100));
    You can query the euro code point:
    select dump(col01, 16) from tab01;
    Check to see if the value shows A4.the result we have is Typ=1 Len=1: bf
    5. Please be aware that the example above is for varchar/char
    column. You mentioned uploading blob content into database. Is
    it a separate issue? Or do you just request a blob example?Actually blobs are not a problem. What we actually meant is that we are uploading some blob content into the database for which we have to use com.oreilly.servlet.MultipartRequest. But inserting euro symbol becomes a problem when we use this. If we use without multipart request we are able to insert euro but will not be able to upload blob. Blob content is not related to euro.
    6. If problem still persists, I suggest that you send us a simple
    program of yours that include the HTML/JSP and your schema
    (SQL). Here is the program we are using to test.
    <html>
    <HEAD>
    <title>Charset Test</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-15">
    </head>
    <body>
    <form name='f' action="CharsetTestJSP.jsp" method=post enctype="multipart/form-data">
    <input type=text name="TestValueMpr">
    <input type=submit value="Submit for MultipartRequest">
    </form>
    <form name='forn' action="CharsetTestReqJSP.jsp" method=post >
    <input type=text name="TestValueReq">
    <input type=submit value="Submit for OrdinaryRequest">
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>
    this is the html file with two forms , one with multipart request and the other without it. When used the form without multipart request, inserting euro into the db, stores it correctly and displays it correctly when retrieved. The html form calls 2 jsp files which are as follows:
    CharsetTestReqJSP.jsp
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-15" %>
    <%@ page import="com.interactive1.kf.Config,java.sql.*"%>

  • Dead bb curve 8520 SOS need help urgently

    hi guys
    I am experiencing several major issues
    1) my phone had been resetting itself a lot lately without reason and randomly. I then downgraded the OS from 5 to 4 then it continued to do the same so I did the removal of the vendor.xml file in the folder of my win 64 bit computer then the blackberry desktop manager, the BBSAK and the computer cannot find my phone. All it does is flash the LED several times in red and wont even restart or show some evidence of life. I have tried everything please help urgently!!!!!

    Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
    With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
    Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
    Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
    It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
    Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
    Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
    The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
    Otherwise, please try this drastic method:

  • I can't browse using my blackberry browser (wifi connection w/ BB curve 8520)

    good day!
    i purchased a blackberry curve 8520 (w/contract) from one of the telecommunication companies in my country - philippines. everything started all good until one day i can no longer open/use my pre-installed blackberry browser.
    everytime i click on the bb browser logo, the screen just does nothing... nothing loads up on my phone.
    then i tried opening the bb browser throgh the task manager panel a message appears stating: "your device does not currently have any browser configuration service book entries. please contact yor service provider to enable the browser on your device"
    i have tried rebooting the phone several times, both soft and hard.
    can you give me any solution for my problem? TIA.
    P.S. i have unlocked my phone so i can use it on other carriers. but the problem started a month before i did so. my two friends also have the same phone (bought the same day as mine) and they are not experiencing the same problem.

    Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    Here are updated instructions, including notations of the required response from each step. If the response arrives correctly, you move onto the next step. If the response does not arrive correctly, you drop out of the process and contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
    I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
    KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
    Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books (pre-BB10 devices only)
    KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
    If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
    KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Reboot
    Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
    BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
    See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
    Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your configurations for the affected email accounts. Otherwise, you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
    Good luck!

  • Annoying problem with CURVE 8520, please help !!!

    My blackberry Curve 8520 connect to the mobile internet (not the BB service ) automatically everyday without me logging on any application or browser or making any updates.
    I tried installing a new software, formating the phone, removing all the aplication and restoring the factory settings and all of them did not work and the same problem PRESISTS.
    I contacted my provider customer service and they said that they can not know what exactly connects to the internet
    Does anyone have a clue what may be this annoying OPTION that makes the connect to the internet without any notification?
    I appreciate you help !
    Thanks

    Hi gom3a and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums!
    The BlackBerry® smartphone will always make a connection with the data network in order to ensure you are always receiving email and messages when then are sent to you.
    The BlackBerry® data services do not require you to login and most applications only require you to provide your login information once, then its saved so you don't have to login over and over again.
    Thanks.

  • Using Browser on Curve 8520

    Hi, Can anyone help me???
    I bought a Blackberry Curve 8520 few months ago now and it was originally on Orange before I purchased it but has been opened to all networks.  I am an o2 customer and have had no trouble using the phone except I have never been able to get the Browser to work.  It starts to load then comes up with "Unable to connect to the internet, please try again. If persists contact service provider".
    There is no problem with the internet connection as when I check this on the phone it says I am connected, I am also able to access Facebook on my phone which I guess I wouldn't be able to do with a connection.
    Any advice?  (Sorry was a bit long winded!!)

    Please look at your Manage Connections screen or Options > Mobile Network > Services Status.

  • Problems with BB Curve 8520 - Need Help!

    Hey you,
    I have a BB Curve 8520 and I love it so much.
    But in the last week there came up a few prblems I cannot solve without help.
    I love my Blacky and don't want to buy a new because Blacky and I, we are a great team since 16 months.
    The first problem is that whenever I try to do something with my BlackBerry World I get the message that the informations (probably of my BlackBerry ID) could not get updated. For that reason I am not able to download any new apps, which brings my to my next problem: I tried to dowmload WhatsApp from several sites like whatsapp.com or whatever and I tried for hours and days, but there is always the message that the download failed because of "970 Invalid COD" and that is so exhausting as well as being without WhatsApp. I might have to add the all the other applications are working. But the WhatsApp had to be updated and then it disappeared, since that I work on downloading it again and again and again ...
    The third thing is that I tried to get in some Wifi-network , I am asked to type the password that is shown on my screen into the Wireless-Router, a thing, that never happened before.
    Can you help me please?
    What is wrong with my Blacky?

Can you perhaps provide a specific sequence of steps (step-by-step, please) that you conduct that leads to this point. Also, the exact and complete content of the error message presented will help greatly in understanding what is going on.

    Everytime I try to download an application from the App World, the message "Error cannot get new token due to device offline state. (Error ID: 40760)" is shown on screen.

    Here is a KB that discusses that error:
    KB21694 907 invalid COD error appears when third-party applications are downloaded
    From that, it sounds like your BB is likely associated with (or once was) a BES server...and that the IT Policy is blocking the ability to install this app. If you are on BES now, then talk to your BES admins as they are in control. If you are not on BES, then please check this:
    KB30076 How to check for an IT Policy on a BlackBerry smartphone
    If you have an IT Policy and are not on BES, then you need to remove the IT Policy. But, that's going to be a big job...it will totally wipe your BB clean of everything. So, to prepare, please review and conduct the Backup steps documented in the link you can find in my auto-sig on this post. After you have a full backup, you can conduct this:
    KB31291 How to reset a BlackBerry smartphone to factory settings using BlackBerry Desktop Software
    After that completes, when you conduct your restore, DO NOT do a full restore...rather, restore only those databases you need (e.g., contacts, calendar) and especially avoid any databases that have anything to do with Enterprise or IT Policy...if you restore those, you'll just wind up back where you are now.
     >>  I have checked my BB for any IT Policy but didn't find a thing. Maybe I didn't search for it right?
    Furthermore I don't know what this BES and BIS are about, I am using the normal BB Browser if it's that what you were asking for. Should I reset my smartphone anyway?

    I might have to add the all the other applications are working. But the WhatsApp had to be updated and then it disappeared, since that I work on downloading it again and again and again ...
    Hmmm...an IT Policy may or may not be at fault here...

  • Error while updating Curve 9300 OS to Os6 Pls help!

    While I was updating my Blackberry Curve 9300 this notice popped up "An error has occurred while downloading software for your device.  Please verify your Internet connection or try again later, if the problem persists." My internet connection is fine and my firewall is not blocking it. What am I doing wrong? Pls help. My device software is 6.0 Bundle 1879

    Are you still able to use your device? If so, backup your data then go through the following clean application load: http://bbry.lv/cKy9A0 If you can't use your device, follow the steps in the previous link.
    Once reload of the device software is successful, restore your data and test using your BlackBerry.

  • Curve 8520 won't turn on all the way, please help!

    I have a blackberry curve 8520, i bought it last month sometime.
    I woke up yesterday morning and the balckberry was off, and would not switch on after i pushed down the ON button. So I charged it for a while, and still, it wouldnt switch on. Then, i took it off charge, took out the battery put the battery back in and it rebooted. The loading bar went right to the end, and the logo of my service provider appeared. And that's when it stopped loading. All that will show is the logo, it wont turn off, unless i take the battery out again.
    I had downloaded an app the night before it stopped working off appworld, could that have affected it? I tried to link it to my computer, but it wont let me remove or add applications.
    I did take out the battery for hours, and the SD card. It still wiil only turn on until my service provider's logo.
    PLEASE HELP! Any advice would be helpful.

    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
    NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
    Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

  • Help required with upgrading to OS5 on curve 8520

    Hello everyone,
    I'm using an unlocked version of the bb curve 8520 and want to upgrade my bb device os to v5.0. (current version- 4.6.1)
    I tried using the application loader on the bb website (NA & India both) but it just tells me that my OS is updated and that i will be notified if there are any updates available. I would be really grateful if someone could help me update my os.

    Hello,
    Your warranty is not endangered. You are free to use any carriers OS package on your BB. Your carrier may, however, refuse to provide you with support (including Warranty evaluation/service) until you fall back to their supported device OS level. But your warranty per se is not endangered.
    Good luck!
