Curve 8520 completely frozen!!

Help please had my bb curve since xmas.  It has been freezing up the last couple of days.  I downloaded I took this on my phone app from bb apps and since then its completely frozen, cant switch on or off and just have a message that the phone cannot access data.  I have tried taking battery out and leaving for over 10 mins, cant do a soft or hard reset as need to get into the phone and cant.
Any help appreciated.

I'm not at all sure what you were trying to communicate there...

Is that the exact error message? The exact syntax would help in researching...

It is highly likely that you won't be able to -- hopefully you already have a good backup of your data.

  • My blackberry curve 8520 is frozen

I have Took the battery out several times but when I turn it on its stuck on the unlock page. I can move the scroller but I can't click anything so I can't use it! PLEASE HELP ITS URGENT.

Ohhhh!!! That makes a world of difference, and since my clairvoyance app has been out of service, I could not know that earlier from the words you posted earlier. Thanks! It makes much more sense now!
I still don't know what didn't work in the process, but no matter...from what you describe, you likely have a hardware problem with your "scroller". If that's a rollerball, they are prone to wear and tear, especially since it's a human digit that is in contact with them. What you did is often recommended -- not "hitting it", but pressing pretty hard and rolling at the same time. Also, removing it and very lightly cleaning with alcohol (with the batttery out, of course), and be sure to let it dry completely.
Anyway, it sounds like you are on your way. If you want to pursue the OS reload, then please post what went wrong in that so that perhaps we can guide you in the proper direction.
    Good luck!

  • Blackberry Curve 8520 'frozen'

My Blackberry Curve 8520 seems to have frozen. None of the functions such as the trackpad and answer button work at all, only the keys on the keypad SWLHG & Y do. I can't answer calls or place calls.  It connects to Desktop manager with no problems at all and I have tried updating the software. The phone has not been dropped or had any water damage and I checked inside for the water sticker, which is fine.
The phone is on a contract with Orange and I have insurance on it, but I am wondering if there is any 'fix'

Ah yes, knowing what has already been attempted certainly prevents wasting anyone's time.
So, with that, what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? Something else? The tiniest thing could be causal, so think very carefully.
If there was some change, then you have two possible ways to proceed.
    1) Remove the change. Given then behavior, you'll have to use the Desktop Software to remove whatever the offending thing is:
KB10376Remove applications from the BlackBerry smartphone
    2) Reload your OS clean, and then start putting apps back on. You'd want to go slow here...giving it time to know for sure that the behavior presents or not. Once it starts, you know the culprit.
If there was no change recently, then you likely can only go with method 2...
Lastly...don't rule out moisture damage. The behavior could actually indicate that. And moisture intrusion into a BB is much easier to suffer than one would think (with the indicators sometimes not presenting positive). To attempt to treat that, you'd need to follow this FAQ:

  • Curve 8520 won't turn on all the way, please help!

I have a blackberry curve 8520, i bought it last month sometime.
I woke up yesterday morning and the balckberry was off, and would not switch on after i pushed down the ON button. So I charged it for a while, and still, it wouldnt switch on. Then, i took it off charge, took out the battery put the battery back in and it rebooted. The loading bar went right to the end, and the logo of my service provider appeared. And that's when it stopped loading. All that will show is the logo, it wont turn off, unless i take the battery out again.
I had downloaded an app the night before it stopped working off appworld, could that have affected it? I tried to link it to my computer, but it wont let me remove or add applications.
I did take out the battery for hours, and the SD card. It still wiil only turn on until my service provider's logo.
PLEASE HELP! Any advice would be helpful.

    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

  • App error curve 8520

Need urgent help with this please. A friend of mine also has a bb curve 8520 and recently she keeps getting the "App error 523".
I've tried googling the problem and everywhere says to reset the o/s. While this is straightforward in theory, When I've tried to connect the device to the bb desktop, the phone loads up for about 5 seconds, and then the app screen appears.
It even does this when I boot up the bb in safe mode. I'm getting frustrated now as I cant do anything with the bb desktop (as in re-install the o/s) when the app error message screen comes up.
    Any ideas please?

If your BlackBerry stays powered off with a black screen, follow the instructions below. The only indication of life might be the blinking red LED light in the top corner. Nothing seems to wake it up and Desktop Manager doesn't recognize any device is connected.
    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
If you are on corporate/enterprise/BES, then stop now and seek assistance from your BES admins, for they control the IT Policy that your BB uses.
If you are not on BES, then somehow you have a latent IT Policy on your BB which is preventing this functionality. Sometime in this BBs life, it was associated with BES, but was not properly cleansed when it was removed from BES. So now you must do drastic things to cure it.
To start, please follow the backup instructions available via the link in my auto-sig on this post...you will need ALL of that, as your BB will be wiped totally clean in order to remove the IT Policy.
Once you have completed the backup, follow this KB to remove the IT Policy from your BB:
KB31291 How to reset a BlackBerry smartphone to factory settings using BlackBerry Desktop Software
However, once you have completed the reset to factory, DO NOT do a full restore of your data...rather, do a selective restore of only those databases you really require (e.g., contacts, calendar, messages, etc.), especially avoiding any databases that have anything to do with Corporate, Enterprise, or IT Policy. If you restore those, you will wind up right back where you are now.
    Good luck!

It seems that you have not installed the correct blackberry software for your device, or might be select the incorrect carrier for your blackberry handheld. You need to download the correct blackberry software with your service provider and before installing the software, disconnect your BB device from the computer and then install it with proper administrative privilege.
After installing the software on your computer, make sure to hard boot your blackberry handheld before connecting it to your computer. If the same problem persists, then use JVM Loder to complete wipe your blackberry device memory then connect with the desktop manager and install the software.
    Good luck..!!!

  • My Curve 8520 stops working

    Hello,
My Blackberry smartphone curve 8520 stops working. I can't call or ping. It has given me the message to reload software 552. Even my service provider can't help me. Is there anyone who can help me with this?

    Hi
    I'm sure we can help
This what I did to completely wipe my BB. I wrote this before starting and printed it off.
If your device is functioning, perform a backup now if you haven't already done so saving the file to a place and in a name that you can easily locate on computer.
I then uninstalled DTM and then deleted all other references to BB/Rim in Windows Explorer thus removing the OS for the BB from the computer in order to ensure that the version I would reinstall would be a brand new downloaded version.
Get the latest Desk Top Software (DTS)
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?CPID=OTC-DSKTPSW&cp=OTC-DSKTPSW
and install it on the computer.
Get the correct latest version of the OS
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    and save it to computer.
If the PC does not recognize the BB, You need to connect the via the USB cable. Then pull the battery from the BB.
With the battery pulled, connect the BlackBerry to the USB connector and as SOON as you see USB-PIN:UNKNOWN hit Next. You have to be quick. From there you can put the battery back in (make sure you install the battery or else when the OS update is completing and the device disconnects from the computer to reboot, it will lose the power provided by the USB connection and you will get an error and have to do it all over again!).
If you don't get it right the first time, try again (unplug from USB, pull battery, connect and hit Next while USB-PIN:Unknown is showing). You have to be fast and the timing is key, so it may take you three or four attempts.
To erase all the data on your BlackBerry device, complete the following steps.
    1) Download JL_Cmder from http://www.4shared.com/get/oqP9V-2Q/JL_Cmder_v19.html
    2) Install JL_Cmder to computer.
    3) Double check you have already backed-up the BB. If you DO NOT, you will lose ALL data.
    4) Make sure the DTS is closed and plug in the BB to computer via USB
    5) Go to the JL_Cmder on your computer and double click it to start. Now,this may take a few tries to connect, so keep trying until it does.
    6) On the first screen, Press any key to continue.
    7) Now, if your device uses a password, enter it now. If not, press "N"
    8) Press 4 to initiate the WIPE
    9) Press "Y" to continue
    10) Now type "blackberry" to continue
    11) On the BB you will see a white screen with a'507' Error. Don't worry, this is what you want! You are now ready to install the OS.
Launch the new Desk Top Software on the computer
1). On the home screen of the BlackBerry® Desktop Software, click Device > Update my device.
2). Click View Other Versions. Click the version of the new OS you previously downloaded.
3). Click Install. The DTM will install the OS and then provide you with a list of applications to install. If you have had difficulties with an app, do not install it.
Do not disconnect the device until the whole process is completed and the device has rebooted.
After 10 minutes reboot again by removing the battery whilst powered-on and leave it out for a couple of minutes.
Leave it again for 10 minutes. You should now have a fully functioning BB!

  • Automatic expensive downloads / connections BB Curve 8520

    Hi @ all,
I'm located in Germany and try to explain my problem/those of my girlfriend   with her curve 8520.
In September she added an internatflat  and one month later  the blackberry option to use the messenger and email.  provider is Mobilcom Debitel and the net is T mobile.
Now it came up that her bill increased a lot and the provider can not explain to us.
the internet flat is for 200 MB, afterwards slowlier.
The BB option is for 1 MB, actually the  private email is not much.
Now the single connection list shows per day several connections and sometimes at midnight as well   going to
    "gprs://blackberry.net"
the kilobytes for those connections are between 10 and 1440.
Now we disconnected the email account from the phone, but we still have this problem.
    Can somebody help?
Are there settings to be changed or what?
    Many thanks
    Best regards
    Chris

Interesting. But if it says that, just try clicking yes. And correct, the PSK is the pre-shared key, or the wifi password.
If that still doesn't work, then the solution may be to back up your phone using the BlackBerry Desktop Software and perform a security wipe. To do that, go to Options > Security Options > Security Wipe. Perform a wipe of the application data. Once that is complete, perform a selective restore using the BlackBerry Desktop Software and restore just the databases you need (e.g. messages, address book, calendar, etc).
You should then be able to start from scratch again.
If you want to thank someone for their comment, do so by clicking the Thumbs Up icon.
If your issue is resolved, don't forget to click the Solution button on the resolution!
