Curve 8530 and photos without media card?

An acquaintance replaced her Curve 8530 with a Droid and wants to get her photos off the Curve. She has never installed BB Desktop nor backed up her photos before. She claims she has no media card in it but I wonder if you can save photos without one and I'm not there to check out her phone myself right now.
So my 2 questions  are 1) If you do not add a micro-SD card, can you still take and store photos? (I wonder if she has a card and doesn't know it). And 2) If it is possible without a media card, how can she download her photos to her computer? (If it's a media card, I know what to do)
TIA

To answer your questions, yes you can store photos without a media card.  There is a limited amount of memory available in the phone for media storage.  Without a media card, the easiest method would have been for her to email the photos to an account accessed on a PC.  Of course I am guessing that option is probably no longer available.
While I do not have a Curve 8530, I am guessing they came loaded with a micro SD card and your friend just doesn't realize it is there.  I also guess the new Droid has one that could be used to access the 8530 files if necessary.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    Assuming you are on Windows:
Article ID: KB29523 How to manually transfer files between a BlackBerry smartphone and a Windows computer
    Otherwise, for Mac:
Article ID: KB11850 How to manually transfer files between a BlackBerry smartphone and a Macintosh computer
Another way is to simply remove your media card from your BB device and use a media card reader on your computer (assuming the card is not encrypted, of course).
Good luck and let us know!

  • Recovery deleted photo (without SD card)

hello everybody! my father had deleted the photo on his phone... I am triyng to recover them, but i cannot connect the phone as phisycal drive.. it appears as network drive.. how can i do? i have windows 7 ultimate..thanks to all.

When you connect the phone to your computer it should be seen as a physical drive. You should see two drives. One is the SD card and the other is the internal memory of the phone.
For this to work, make sure you have Z10 the drivers installed. By installing the Link sofware the drivers are automatically installed when the Z10 is connected.
As for SD cards, when data is erased, it is not like with DOS and some operating systems where only the header ID flag in the directory table is changed, and the data is intact until some other data writes over it. The deleted flag tells the OS that the space
is available and the space can be overwritten with new data.
In Windows when a file is normally deleted it is flagged to be part of the Waste Bin folder which is designed as a system folder. The file is not really deleted while in the Waste Bin Folder. It is in a sense re-alocated. When you tell the waste bin utility
to delete the file, then it overwrites it entirely with the equivalent of 0's. This makes the file securely deleted.
With SD cards the system is different. There is no waste area for the files. There is no easy access to re-set the delete flag. If you did more writing to the card, the flagged data can be easily over written. There are some utility programs out there that
claim to be able to undelete files on the SD card. You will need a Windows computer and a card reader to do this. I found some software that are supposed to be able to do this. I never used them, or know if they will charge a fee to use it once it claims it
    can undelete the file.

  • Log and Transfer without original cards?

I had to go back to FCP7 for a project and I forgot to "log and transfer" and just pulled in my H.264 files.  I have all the raw movie files in a folder on my HDD, but I do not have the CF cards or disk images.  Is there anyway to go through log and transfer to transcode my H.264 files?  For what I remember it wants the directory structure from my CF card (shot on Canon Mark iii) but I don't have those anymore.  I do have the movie files themselves so I don't feel like I should be sorry out of luck.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks!

You don't need Log and Transfer for this...you can use Compressor to convert this footage to ProRes 422. There are presets in Compressor so it'll all just be drag and drop.

  • Curve 8530 and Vista

I just bought my 1st blackberry... and I want to backup my contact information to my computer.  I have a PC that runs on Vista.  It looks like the disk that came with the package installed the desktop manager correctly; however, when I click and try to open it, nothing happens.  I've reinstalled it twice and still have the same problem.  Does anyone know if the software is compatible with Vista?  Is it possible that I have a virus or something wrong with my computer?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
Some have found the use of a Registry cleansing tool to be helpful at this point
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the backup process over.
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Curve 8530 and backup assistant

I had bu assistant working for months. I don't know if it's the upgraded OS or something else but the addition I made to my contacts a week ago does not show up online. If I click on bu assistant on the BB it only offers to "restore" which is probabloy not a great idea if the online version is not as updated as the cell. If I "sync" on the bu assistant online page, the red and black thing keeps moving but I don't see anything else happening.
Any suggestions? (BTW I do use the BB desktop software for backups and I installed aurkon bu but can't tell if it's up to date.)
    Thanks.....

On one phone I uninstalled, it rebooted, I downloaded it from vzstart, installed and it rebooted. But all it wanted to do was to restore. I ignored it and an hour later it did the backup. No new pin.
On the 2nd phone I did all that above, twice, with no luck. Did it again the next day and decided to let it do a restore. Ironically it did a backup of over 10 numbers after the restore but did not show up on the web.I installed "lookout" which Verizon suggested when they phoned me after I had left an email on their contact page. They told me there are issues with BUA and they are working on it.  Guess what - 3 hours later the changes showed up on the web. So I supposedly have 3 backups going (BB desktop, BUA, lookout) and don't know if any work or if upgrading the OS ruins them.
The thing is, is this going to happen every single time there is an OS upgrade?. (This message looks half like a complaint and  half like I'm happy things are working! Oh well)

  • Media card password

My daughter's Torch 9800 broke, so it has been replaced.  Before sending it off, I backed up the phone content, and removed the media card.
Having replaced the card in the new phone, it is now asking for the media card password....I have no idea what that would be - would be the same as the phone lock password, or would that have been set separately (i don't recall doing that)
If I can't recall the password, is there any other way that i can restore the back up, without the encryption?  At the moemnt my daughter can't access her music or photos, so Dad is getting a great deal of grief!

    Hi,
I wish i cud help u out but this is strange that without setting up any password, its asking for a password...try giving the phone's lock password...unlike bluetooth handsfree, there is no preset password for a card...
As far as i knw, there is no option by which u can access the card at home...wud suggest u to take the card to a ph repair shop, might they can do sumthing...

  • Get pictures off Blackberry to PC - no media card

I want to get the pictures off my phone and into my computer into my hp software - My Curve does not have a media card - how can I get them off my curve??

To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you can use third-party apps such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer e.g. their file size and dimensions may be different, colours might look different etc

  • Curve 8310 fails to read microSD card

    Greetings,
I bought a Blackberry Curve 8310 last summer and it worked fine until November of last year when the phone failed to read my Micro SD media card. Thinking the media card was the problem, I have bought a new media card a few months ago to try fixing the problem. The problem still persists and I need help getting this fixed.
I currently use Blackberry 4.5 Device OS. Under Options in the phone's menu:
    Media card support: on
    Encryption mode: none
    Mass storage mode support: on
Auto enable MSM when connected: Yes
    Total space: 1.8 GB
    Free Space: 1.4 GB.
This means the phone knows I have a media card but just cannot read it. For pictures, only the pictures I saved onto the microSD card using my computer can be seen, but pictures I took using the phone doesn't show up. When taking pictures, the camera indicates "File system out of resources". For music, all the music is visible, but when trying to play the songs, it doesn't do anything.
I have tried everything from turning off/on the phone, removing the battery to do a hard reset, not downloading any applications to see if they were the cause, and formatting the media card for blackberry use. I have even reformatted the phone 5 to 6 times and installed a clean new OS onto the phone and the problem is still there. The only short-term solution I found in fixing this problem is when using the Desktop Manager to backup my data on the phone. After backing up the data, the phone will recognize my media card and I can access it fine for about 2 to 3 days. Then the phone fails again and I have to keep backing up my data to get my phone to work. Now I am very tired of repeating this process. Either I get a long-term solution or I need a new phone (I believe I still have warrenty).
The phone is great but this problem is getting on my nerves. Someone please help me!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
From everything you've described, you've done everything possible. Hence, I recommend you seek out your warranty support.

  • BB Pearl not Recognizing Media Card

I have a 2GB Kingston MicroSD card installed in my BB.  It has been working fine for the past month or so (since I got the phone) and has 4 or 5 pictures and another 5 of 6 ringtones stored on it.  Earlier this week, I had been hooking the phone up to the computer using the USB cable and it would prompt me if I wanted to access the media.  I would say no and go on from there.  Then Wednesday, all of a sudden the BB started no longer recognizing the card.  Today, I went into the settings and they are:
    Media Card Support - On
    Encryption Mode - None
Mass Storage Mode Support - On
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected - Prompt
A media card is not presently inserted in the device.
I take the media card out and plug it into the computer and it is still showing all the files on there.  When I plug the phone into the computer, it is not being recognized by the computer.
    Any suggestions?

  • Media Card

I have a 8330 BlackBerry. When I go to Options and click on Media Card, it says, "Media card cannot be read. Verify that the memory card is formatted". When I format it I get a message that reads, "Media Card Format Failed".  Any solutions?

I recommend that you take the media card out of the phone and try to read it on a PC.  If it reads OK, I would then back up the files on the card (on to the PC) and format the card using the PC's system which is more thorough than the phones format system.
If you have problems reading the media card on your PC, use the data recovery tools in your PC operating system to try and recover the media card contents.
If the PC format is successful, then return the media card to your phone and see if can be read.  You may need to format it (in the phone).  FYI;  format in the phone typically is just to create the folders for your files (pictures, music, documents, etc.).
Now copy your 'backed up' files from the PC onto the media card and you should be good.
If none of these operations are successful, you may have a damaged media card and need a replacement.
    Good luck.
