Curve 8900 is non-responsive

My alarm went off this morning, and whilst searching for my phone, I realised I'd been sleeping on it.
The screen doesn't come on, the LED has stopped flashing (it would do if the phone were on, as I've received emails this morning), and taking the battery out and replacing it only causes the LED to light up red for a second or two - as it does when the battery is replaced - before the phone goes dark again.
I have my phone on charge now, and that hasn't provoked a response. The screen came on for a moment then promptly went off again.
Has anybody else experienced this? Or is it time for me to buy a new phone? I've had this BlackBerry for just a year now, and it is third hand - it's 13, 14 months oldest at the most.
UPDATE: My phone responds to be connected to my laptop; I've managed to get my pictures etc. off the phone.
Still isn't turning on though.

How can I get my blackberry curve 8900 to update to 5.0 and get wifi to work?

I bought a blackberry curve 8900 around a year ago on an AT&T plan back when data plans werent required, so it just has minutes and texting. because of an issue i had with data before, i have data disabled completely on my account to prevent any mistaken data being used up and charging me. my AT&T contract recently expired so i called them up and got my blackberry unlocked, and will be soon switching to tmobile.
My problem is that it refuses to update past 4.6 over to 5.0 because of some restriction on it placed by AT&T, and my wifi wont work unless i have data enabled for the same reason. Is there anything i can do? I've tried installing 5.0 from different service providers onto my phone but it never installs properly.

While you can (with just a trick or two) use any carriers OS package for your specific model number, it won't do any good since all 5.0 level OS's require a data plan, regardless of which carrier. So, without that, you can't update to 5.0. Further, it is the data plan that activates BIS -- which is what is used to run the BlackBerry Browser...hence that non-functionality also. Basically, a BB without a data plan is, to many, pretty useless.
There are other browsers that bypass BIS and will use a generic data plan (assuming you have that)...OperaMini and Bolt come to mind. You might give those a try.

Connection problem curve 8900

hi
i got a new o2 branded curve 8900, i set it up and it is working. but sometimes the connection went of and i have to make a reset to get back the connection. mostly after i turned off the wlan, but still edge is running or in installed or deinstalled a software. i have also a bold 8100 with same simcard running and never had this problems.
its running with a prepaid card from german o2. as i said i had the same card in the bold 8100 without any problems, also with my turkcell card in turkey, no problem, only with the curve 8900.
i checked the service books. in the bold their are non, in the curve several.
do anybody knows a way to solve this problem. i love this phone, but this problem drives me crazy.
i send now a sms and the connection was gone also

i've got the same problem and not only with google maps but with facebook application as well. yet found no solution for this. my network people say PTA(Pakistan Telecom Authority) has blocked the Google maps and facebook application. have no idea what's going on but if anyone finds a solution please share.

Bold vs Curve 8900

Hi
Other than the ability to hook up to 3G networks is there anything else that the Bold can do that the new Curve 8900 can't do?
If there are no 3G networks (and none planned) in my region (and I don't travel very often) is there any compelling reason not to go for the Curve 8900?

MY personal opinion, IF all things are equal to you between the two devices, get the 8900, as you have increased 128MB application memory, double that of other (and Bold) devices.

Curve 8900 Keeps going in Standby Mode

Hi,
My Curve 8900 keeps going into Standby mode by itself even when nothing has been touched. Gives message "Entering Standby mode. Press the Mute key again to exit Standby mode." Looks like others have posted similar problems. The device is quite new but without warranty.

Mine keeps going into standby too. What a piece of **bleep** all blackberrys are. If it weren't for the messenger I would have switched to a nokia a long time ago. I doubt this thread will raise a response from RIM.

Curve 8900 not connecting to Desktop Software version 6.0.0.40

I am not able to connect my Curve 8900 to the BlackBerry Desktop Software Version 6.0.0.40. When I connect via USB it asks for the password and then it says connecting in the bottom right corner - it never connects. I also have the Blackberry Device Manager version 6.0.0.11 running at startup but it does say that the device is connected. There are no errors in the device manager. I am running Windows XP SP3.

No one else replied, but I seem to have solved the problem, more or less, so I thought I'd report back. See previous message for the setup.
1) First attack - make a concerted effort to truly undelete the 2 old versions of Desktop Manager. The typical list of "how to cleanly uninstall" (link above) is incomplete. This document is much better: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02206 .
The part that matters is near the bottom, under Additional Information. Basically, take a shovel to the Registry and start digging out absolutely every reference to "Research In Motion" using the Edit/Find. I added to that recommendation a search on "BlackBerry" and even, for good measure, all the Roxio software (and removed the Roxio folders just like the Research In Motion folders). I can't say which part did the trick, but I could see some of the Install and Uninstall list items go by.
This finally killed the zombie entries in the Add/Remove Programs list, and prevented the Windows Installer attempts on unfindable .msi files.
2) Problems: In killing Roxio, I may have accidentally munged a Sonic registry entry. When I installed the Desktop Manager fresh from the CD, it complained about a registry-style confusion with Sonic software. It allowed me to continue past that point anyway.
I can't fix that, but I will be swapping in new PCs in a couple of months and can live with whatever reduced functionality might be involved.
When I started the Desktop Manager for the first time, I could see Windows Installer popups fly by in the background, but none of them stayed open, and perhaps that will be a one-time problem. Otherwise, if related to the Sonic issue, at least it's not a functional problem that prevents me from using the Desktop Manager.
3) I can now connect to the Desktop Manager via USB, but am unable to successfully update the device software. It goes through the backup process apparently successfully, but issues an error message about "Fatal error" before installing much (any?) of the new software. Seems to be a benigh error - phone still works. Because this will be reinstalled on a clean PC in a couple of months, I can pass on upgrading the device software until then.
4) All I care about is the ability to synch the contact and calendar data and, by god, that seems to be working!!! And it's much faster than my older BB.

Light does not flash when I get a message BB Curve 8900 T Mobile

Hi! I have only had my blackberry Curve 8900 for a week. It used to blink when I got a text message. It has stopped blinking. Does anyone know why? T Mobile is my carrier. I am 50 plus women, so this is all new to me. I am learning fast and love my BB but some thing still get me confused.

PREloadED Word To Go, NONpremium Edition on my Curve 8900 (T-Mobile)

a few parters questions...so start using said app recently:
((1)) So i sent a .doc files (off my PC) to myself through my Yahoo email. I THEN open said email account through my Curve 8900. When I clickED on THE Attachment, menu POPped UP offering:
1) OPEN attachment
2) DOWNLOAD attachment
3) FULL menu
4a) COPY 4b) FILE 4c) DELETE...
...obvious questionS: what are these DIF-FER-ENT choices (which command pertains to the attachment and/or said particular email itself, knowatimean?) BUT MOST IMPORTANT, ESPECIALLY what's the different between 1) AND 2) ??? WHICH ONE should I CHOOSE? Whether I decide to perform 1) OR 2) (basing on you guys' answer(s) ), IS THEN SAID .doc file storeD anywhere on my Curve 8900? WHERE? HOW do I GET to it (for examples: so I can transfer to a 2nd or 3rd or 4th PC, PRINT it out, etc, what else can I do to it? On transferring AND printing said file, what protocol/mechanism of said phone can I use?) ??? Bottom line, HOW do I GET to said file? (I have a microSD card installED if that mattered.)
((2)) Since NON-prenium Word To Go, I can't edit said Word file...BUT my ULTIMATE agenda IS to be able to E-D-I-T said IMported .doc file--withOUT paying ($zero!!) for said EDIT-ING ability (I'm trying to maximize my ability to work on whatever school's paper that I need to type up...whereEVER part of town I'm in--that's all...=MY AGENDA!!)...so I tried docs.google.com ONline (I've got a DATA plan), but UNfortunately, I don't think Google Docs let me edit either, on my Curve 8900 (or am I wrong here/I didn't see/missing something?).......So I need some FREEbies ALTERNATIVEs that suit my AGENDA meaning edit-ABLE AND works on my Curve 8900, whether maybe some (1) FREE app(S) I can get/install at BlackBerry App World, or (2) FREE ONline services ???
Sorry for the somewhat long-winded nature of my dilemma but I thought I made my case in a clear enough manner/presentation/nature.......AND THANKS FORWARD to any help that help me achieve my ULTIMATE goal...SO CHEERS!!!

(1) Are there any free apps or cheap apps that will let me open and edit word and excel files? I don’t need the power point function. I am self employed so this would be extremely helpful but its hard to justify me spending $50
(2) @oldglory Documents to go is your only option here. If you upgrade your OS to a minimum of 4.5 you will have access to the standard package of Documents To Go
...so (2) is saying Word To Go will let me edit--IF I have BB OS 4.5 or newer??? Is that right? If so, how do I find what OS version is on my Curve 8900?

When playing games on my iPod touch. Some are stutters and non responsive

Trying to play games on my iPod touch and they are slow, stuttery and non responsive. iPod software is up to date

Do the games require an internet connection? If so then maybe slow connection.

Data Issues with New Curve 8900 on ATT

Hi, I just got this Blackberry Curve 8900 yesterday for ATT, and it's my first Blackberry. Everything was working fine up until earlier today when I realized that my data wasn't working properly. The data will work with certain apps, but certain apps with also not connect. My e-mail and BB Messenger also will not connect. The only way for me to get them to work is if I connect to wifi, but other than that on my EDGE the majority won't connect.
Here is a list of apps i've compiled that shows what works with what:

I went to Manage Connections, and Mobile Network Options and my data is set to on, and i've done muliple battery pulls to no avail. When I turn on my WiFi all my emails and alerts that I missed come rushing in. For example I resent a Service Book to my device and I did not receive that until my WiFi was turned on. My "EDGE" is in capital letters so i'm receiving data.
Can someone please help me solve this frustrating topic? It really is mind boggling.

You have a BlackBerry Data plan right? I'm assuming so since it works sometimes
Also if you notice when the Wi-Fi is off, if you go into Manage Connections | Service Status does the BlackBerry Internet Service say it's connected to the Mobile Network? Or if you go into Mobile Network Options can you run a Diagnostics Test and see if it sees that your data is connected?

Firefox 13 is unusable hanging/non-responsive. I've downgraded flash, uninstalled plugins & un/reinstalled Firefox but I can't use it to try other possibl fixes

Since updating to Firefox 13 it not only runs slow but hangs and becomes non-responsive on all different websites. I was told that the most recent Flash update was known to be incompatible with Ffx 13, so down-dated Flash and uninstalled non-essential plugins - which definitely helped, but has not fixed the problem.
I haven't even been able to try the other potential fixes I've found on the Support site (adding into my computer's safe settings in case of firewall issue or creating a new profile) because Firefox won't work long enough for me to access them. At this point, shouldn't I just down-date to the last version of Firefox??

All of a sudden firefox has become unstable - its hanging on the NYTIMEs website. I've done done everything - uninstalled, reinstalled, removed all add-ons, used default themes, reset firefox. Some serious problem here - I had to switch back to IE9. (Version 16.0.1 Firefox running under Windows 7)

Now that I was sent by Microsoft to your download update site to get the latest version 4.0.1, Firefox crashes (becomes non-responsive) before opening any site page I try. When will you fix this problem?

For two weeks I have tried to use your automatic download of the latest version 4.0.1. It would sit there telling me it is trying to connect to the download computer for hours, several times overnight. Then, it became non-responsive and error messages were sent to Microsoft who directed me to your download site. After downloading your latest version several times, the new page would open. After selecting a bookmarked site, it would open (sometimes only partially) but when I tried to scroll down, it would freeze up and become non-responsive, again prompting error messages to Microsoft. They must be getting a kick out of this. I'm running a Gateway 7200S desktop with Microsoft XP and Intel single range Pentium 4 processor. I have been using your Mozilla Firefox as my default browser for several years with much satisfaction. Unfortunately, whatever upgrades were made have rendered it useless for me.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

What are you considering non responsive with the plugins? Flash player is working just fine then I get your crash page in the middle of doing something. You say it only crashes when it's been unresponsive for 45 seconds. Mine is crashing in less then 1

I have had problems with firefox crashing for the last three month. I have updated to the latest version with the crash protection. Now the flash player crashes about every 20 minutes or so. On your blog page you state that I will get the crash page when the plugin has been non-responsive for 45 seconds well with mine the games are going along just fine then wham crash page. Flash player was responding and you gave me crash report anyway. What's up???? Flash player is crashing within seconds not 45 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your check plugin page always states that my plugins are UP TO DATE!!!!!

Safari (7.0.1) is non-responsive (spinning pinwheel) upon start up. It will work in temp user account but not in my main user acct. I tried reinstall via comman-r prompt on start up but the problem persists. Any suggestion for reinstall or repair?

Safari is non-responsive after intitial start up. Before it can load the homepage (google), it will hang and give a perpetual pinwheel until I force quit the program. Safari works in temporary user account but not in my primary user account. I have reinstalled osx via the command-r upon start up and the problem still persists. Any suggestions on how to reinstall or repair safari?

Thanks for thinking about my problem. I've already experimented with creating a new user, a co-administrator. The programs don't crash when that account is running, just as they don't crash when the guest-user's account runs. So it seems that the problem is limited to the default user's account, which is the one that was running when I installed the updates to the OS and the firmware. Another clue is that the programs that crash as soon as they are launched are *probably* the ones that were open at that time in that account. Yet deleting Saved Application States does not keep the programs from crashing when next launched.
So the mystery continues, but these additional facts will help with the diagnosis, I hope.

Can the Genius Bar cable my 5S to their computer or separate keyboard to enter my passcode on a broken, non-responsive touchscreen? I need to get past the passcode to either transfer my data and pics to a new 5S or my PC computer (that the 5S has never been synced with.
