Curve 8900 not connecting to Desktop Software version 6.0.0.40

I am not able to connect my Curve 8900 to the BlackBerry Desktop Software Version 6.0.0.40.  When I connect via USB it asks for the password  and then it says connecting in the bottom right corner - it never connects.  I also have the Blackberry Device Manager version 6.0.0.11 running at startup but it does say that the device is connected.  There are no errors in the device manager.  I am running Windows XP SP3.

No one else replied, but I seem to have solved the problem, more or less, so I thought I'd report back.  See previous message for the setup.
1) First attack - make a concerted effort to truly undelete the 2 old versions of Desktop Manager.  The typical list of "how to cleanly uninstall" (link above) is incomplete.  This document is much better: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02206 .
The part that matters is near the bottom, under Additional Information.  Basically, take a shovel to the Registry and start digging out absolutely every reference to "Research In Motion" using the Edit/Find.  I added to that recommendation a search on "BlackBerry" and even, for good measure, all the Roxio software (and removed the Roxio folders just like the Research In Motion folders).  I can't say which part did the trick, but I could see some of the Install and Uninstall list items go by.
This finally killed the zombie entries in the Add/Remove Programs list, and prevented the Windows Installer attempts on unfindable .msi files.
2) Problems: In killing Roxio, I may have accidentally munged a Sonic registry entry.  When I installed the Desktop Manager fresh from the CD, it complained about a registry-style confusion with Sonic software.  It allowed me to continue past that point anyway.
I can't fix that, but I will be swapping in new PCs in a couple of months and can live with whatever reduced functionality might be involved.
When I started the Desktop Manager for the first time, I could see Windows Installer popups fly by in the background, but none of them stayed open, and perhaps that will be a one-time problem.  Otherwise, if related to the Sonic issue, at least it's not a functional problem that prevents me from using the Desktop Manager.
3) I can now connect to the Desktop Manager via USB, but am unable to successfully update the device software.  It goes through the backup process apparently successfully, but issues an error message about "Fatal error" before installing much (any?) of the new software.  Seems to be a benigh error - phone still works.  Because this will be reinstalled on a clean PC in a couple of months, I can pass on upgrading the device software until then.
4) All I care about is the ability to synch the contact and calendar data and, by god, that seems to be working!!!  And it's much faster than my older BB.
If you're reading this, it's because you have an ongoing nightmare...  You have my sympathy.

  • Playbook will not connect with Desktop Software

Playbook won't connect with desktop software any longer. Seems to have started after latest update to 2.0. Still working fine with my Torch 9810, but not with the Playbook. I even tried reinstalling the Desktop software, but no go. Tried to "forget" Playbook, but now I can't even add it as a device any longer!

possible you need to uninstall Device Manager, not Desktop Software.
Disconnect the PB from the computer.
    Uninstall the Device Manager.
Reboot your computer (for good measure)
Connect the PB using the USB cable.
Now you should see a PlayBook CD-ROM.
In that CD-ROM you will find version 7 of the Device Manager, install it.
Once installed disconnect the PB from the computer.
Wait for about 15 seconds then plug it back in.
Windows should detect new device and start Device Manager. It may take up to two minutes for windows to detect and properly install.
Then device manager will map 'z' drive to the PB.

  • 8900 Not Connecting to Desktop Manager in Boot Camp

    Hi all
I have a problem in Boot Camp (XP Pro) on my new MacBook Pro. My 8900 shows up perfectly in device manager and I can also browse the media card. When I run Desktop Manager 4.7, it cannot pick up the BlackBerry and it shows as Disconnected. I have tried re-installing Desktop Manager and even tried the latest unreleased version 5.0. Browsing other forums have suggested I take the battery out for a minute and try again and this didn't work either.
I have tried going back to DM 4.7, re-installed Bootcamp 2.1 drivers and installed VMWare Fusion. Nothing gets it connected, yet every time the 8900 shows up perfectly in Device Manager.
I installed on my partners HP laptop and it connected immediately in DM. I really need this to work on my Mac (boot camp preferably) and i simply cannot understand why its not working.
Please help me! What am I doing wrong? I've been trying for hours and so frustrated!
    Thanks in advance...

  • Problems connecting to desktop software

    Your carrier: Vodafone UK
Model info and OS version: 8110 v4.5.0.180
File free before battery remove/replace: 12595211
Did a battery pull fix your issue?  No
Apps installed and their version if possible: Facebook, MapMyRun
    BT device model/version: None connected
    Details
Windows 7 64 bit, current fixpack
    Blackberry Desktop 7.1.0.41
Windows recognises the device.  Drivers are up to date and I have chnaged USB power management settings as outlined in the knowledgebase, disabled selective suspend plus set software to run as an administrator.  I have tried different USB cables and all three ports
After lots of tries (including starting with the battery out) I have managed to connect once today (not sure how), and it took almost an hour to transfer 2 35MB files to the newly encrypted media card - painful.  After that it didn't want to play any more!
When I connect now I am prompted for a password, and either a backup is attempted, which I can't cancel, or it sits in the "connecting" forever.
    Any clues?

It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.

  • Connector specific error - blackberry bold 9790 - desktop software version 6.1 and outlook 2010

    Hi there
I've recently upgraded my business partners' outlook from 2007 to 2010.  In doing so we've had a corrupt profile which we have had to delete and then replace with a new one.  In doing so his outlook started working again but now his blackberry isn't synching the calendar entries.
    Here's the basics:
    - Bberry model - Bold 9790
    - Bberry operating system - Blackberry's latest (7.1 I think)
    - Blackberry desktop software 6.1 - this is intentional as we have found in the newer version of hte desktop software that we cannot map our teamsite calendar from outlook and sync the entries
    - Outlook version 2010
    - Calendars we are trying to sync are a personal one from a pst folder and a teamsite one from sharepoint linked to our microsoft exchange set up.
The error we are getting is a 'connector specific error'
I have worked with him to create the PTtrace.log and tif.log files.  I've gotten reams of pages; but the errors on todays date (when the problem began) have come up with error 4238, 113, and 12.  We have tried un-installing and re-installing 6.1 as well and no luck.  We have re-set the configuration setup and re-mapped folders; chosen the new outlook profile, etc and still keep getting same error.
I'm now starting to think that there is a problem with the mapi profile as a start and wonder if outlook needs to repair itself or whether we are getting the error because of a duplicate entry somewhere (though if you asked me to tell you where from the logs I couldn't identify it).
I'm litterally tearing my hair out because my poor business partner lives and dies by his blackberry.  Really want to try to get this resolved; but need some help and suggestions as I've tried most of the main causes and fixes.
Any assistance would really be appreciated so I can put him and myself out of our misery.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cel

Hi and Welcome to the Community...apologies for the delayed reply...hopefully you already have this resolved, but just in case!
Thank you for the thorough report...that helps tremendously. Sadly, though, none of the errors you listed reveal anything useful when I search the public KBs...perhaps you will be more lucky

Even though it sounds like you may have done all or part of this, I encourage you to research the process in this thread:

Your suspicion about the MAPI Profile may well be warranted, in which case this KB might be useful.

Hey guys. My BB 8900 wont connect to desktop manager on my Mac. This seems strange to me, as my bold 2 connects fine. Here is the problem:
    - Connect BB, desktop Manager asks for device password

    - Then it stops trying to connect
Any idea what could cause this?

  • Desktop software version 6.0 won't sync with Curve 8310

I adore my Blackberry Curve 8310, but the desktop software has been a nightmare.  I have tried to download new versions, but the only one that will sync with my device is the one that came on a disk with the phone, version 4.2.2, which I have in my desktop computer.  I have a new laptop with Windows 7 and Outlook 2010 installed.  I downloaded the Desktop Software 6.0 from the Blackberry website, and when I try to configure the settings for syncing with Outlook, it gives me the message "The operation terminated unsuccessfully."  I uninstalled and reinstalled the software and updated my device software, but nothing works.  HELP!

    Hi staceyw,
Is your Outlook 32 bit or 64 bit? Currently only 32 bit is supported with BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0.
I would recommend a clean uninstall then reinstall of the Desktop software following this KB article. http://bbry.lv/bvwP5D
    Thanks,

Use this method to upgrade the OS, make sure that Desktop Manager is is not loaded or running.
First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

  • Curve 8330 not connected to computer

I have the blackberry Curve 8330v 4.5.0.186 (Platform 3.4.0.59). For hours I have been trying to get my computer to detect. I have downloaded the drivers, which you would need to do for any device. Specifically USB and Modem Drivers 6.0. It shows up in my Device Manager Under Ports : Virtual  Serial Port v2. I also have installed Blackberry desktop software, which excutes just fine. However, my problem appears to be all though all is installed and the phone is connected to my computer, the computer isn't detecting it. When I plug it into the computer the phone lights up indicating activity, but that's the only thing that happens. The computer doesn't give me my typical "new hardware found" alert or anything remotely closeto suggesting that there is connectivity. So, after failed attempts in many areas, even trying to connect via bluetooth. My ASUS model X401U notebook running Windows 7 does not have bluetooth capablities. SO, I know there is nothing wrong with the ports as I can move my plug and play mouse to any of them successfully. My phone does not have the storage card in it , but that should not stop my computer from detecting. The cord I am using MAY be the culprit, but even so it works with another device (specifially ran from a ps3 controller to the ps3). So the cord does work. You would think if it were the cord, that it wouldn't allow the phone to light up when plugged into the computer. At this point the phone wont even try to charge when plugged in. Anyone have any suggestions?

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
