Curve 8900 Official unlocked - OS Download

Hello, I had bought my 8900 in Official unlocked state in India. As far as I understand - that means it is not locked to any service provider. Now for some reason all my instant messengers keep crashing while doing spell check and I am unable to open any word or PDF attachments. I need to reload my BB OS but it seems there is no link available to download it. Where ever I check it says I need to select a service provider. I remember earlier we could download non service provider linked OSs as well. What’s happening now? Am I looking somewhere wrong? How do I get the latest official OS and install it?

the latest official OS release for the 8900...

  • Curve 8900 network unlocking (UK)

Hi there, i have a 8900 on the vodaphone network (UK), and i need it unlocking for use on the orange network.
Unlocking itself is not an is not an issue. I know a guy
Although i was wondering if there were ANY problems swapping a handset from one network to another.
Such as mms/sms or any other settings.
Also, the phone is vodaphone branded, so will this pose any problems?
Thanks for any help, or advice given.
    Matt
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    No problemos.
As long as the network technology is the same ... GSM to GSM, you're good, and Voda to Orange is good.
Nothing will be affected. The unlocking does not affect the physicaly branding or flash screen you will on boot up.
    You won't notice any difference.

  • How to unlock bb curve 8900

hi how can i unlock my blackberry curve 8900 for free i dont want to pay

You're not very clear in what you're saying.
But regardless, then if your seller will not unlock the device for free, you must puchase the unlock code.
Just pay for it, no one here is going to give you one for free, RIM doesn't do that.
A good reputable unlocking vendor I know of personally is
    http://unlock.berryreview.com/
    And not expensive.

  • My 8900 curve hangs after unlock code?

    Hi all
I bought a blackberry curve 8900 second hand from a market thinking all I had to do was unlock the network and my sim card would work in it.
However when I enter my chosen sim a message comes up saying 'invalid sim' and at the startup page it reads 'the current sim card requires an unlock code do you want to unlock it now' I went to a shop to get this phone unlocked and the code used came up with the message 'code accepted' but afterwards the phone freezes (still displaying everything that was on the screen before) and the only thing I can do is a battery pull and this leaves me back at step 1
Sim lock I believe is t mobile uk (due to settings and startup logo being t mobile)
Do you know what could be the cause of this fault? I know it is not a software fault as I had a shop re install the software and the phone still freezes after the code has been 'accepted'
The phone us functioning in every way, I can use everything just not text, make calls (basically anything requiring a sim) even a tmobile sim comes up with 'invalid sim' and I an worried I have gone and bought a paperweight
    Regards

I may have misunderstood, but it seems like you are talking about 2 types of "unlocking" here.  You mentioned that you forgot your password, I'm assuming this is the lock password that you personally set on your BB lock screen to prevent unauthorized access?  If so, I'm not aware of any way to retrieve that lost password.
You also mentioned using your BB on a different carrier.  That type of "unlocking" is network unlocking.  To use your BB with a different carrier, you need an unlock code for that.  You can unlock your BlackBerry here.  Since you only have a few attempts left, my suggestion is to use the Checkout by MEP method which always generates the single 100% correct unlock code.
To checkout with this method, you'll need to obtain your BlackBerry's MEP number (note that this is different from the MEP unlock code) which you can get from either here or here.
Alternatively, you can just order your code using the Country/Network your Blackberry is CURRENTLY locked to as well as the model of your BlackBerry.
Good luck, let me know if you need help.

  • Curve 8900 - strange errors?!

    Hi everyone!
BB curve 8900; v4.4.1.310; Vodafone Portugal data plan.
    I'm having this problem:
My emails work wonderfully, so do text msgs, mms; blackberry messenger, all ok, BUT all my other apps won't connect.
Facebook says: error 101 try again later.
    BB App world says: java.lang.nullexception
browser via data plan: it gets stuck in "loading"
I can get them all working through Wifi though!
AND YET, they work from time to time...I will receive from time to time, for example, FB notifications on my FB app that I'd already received on my email (and not on the FB app at the same time)
I dunno...I've made several battery pulls; plugged it into my mac and updated, cleaned unused apps and themes, cleared space...
    I need some help..
    thank you all.

Find a friend with a PC, you can use for a few hours.
I would recommend Desktop Manager, version 6. Download Desktop Manager from here:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Use Desktop Manager to backup your BlackBerry first. If you don't already, you should do this on your own Mac Desktop for Blackberry as well.
See the link below, for the download and simple installation instructions.
    1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=06997F04A7DB92466A2BAA6EBC8B872D
    2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

  • Installation of Applications on BB Curve 8900

I am facing so much problem in installing themes on my black berry curve curve 8900. I downloaded the v4.6 Desktop Application software and installed it on my computer as my BB is having v4.6 OS Software. Then I downloaded themes from the web with both .alx and .cod files. I mean the download to my knowledge was complete. then i saw the installation process through application loader of my Desktop application software. Now the problem is that those themes are stored on my PC and when I browse the .alx file even, it gives me a message that " There are no new applications available for my device". I cant understand this problem. Can anybody help me plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

    Lauren,
It sounds like what I have seen multiple times on a device with moisture damage.
I hope by only putting yours in rice overnight that you'll be ok.
Even sitting on a bathroom counter during a hot steamy shower or bath can cause keyboard and trackball problems UNTIL properly dried out.
It really is more common than you think.
    1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
    2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 3 to 5 days* (see below)
    3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
    3. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.
*Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):
Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.
On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor
On the dashboard of your car on a sunny day

    ANYONE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please refer to this official download portal as you proceed. It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. After installing the OS package to your PC, please remeber to delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.
You may also want to try the "Bare Bones OS Reload Procedure" to attempt to narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.

KB27956 How to recover a BlackBerry smartphone from any state
    http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-lecture-12-how-reload-operating-system-nuked-blackberry
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • Need a new drivers CD for Curve 8900!!

I am trying to sell this unlocked Curve 8900 and have lost the CD drivers. It was originally bought with TMobile but I am in disputes with them so they are of no help. I am currently with ATT. I could check with them, but figured this may be a better place to put the question out there. How can I get a duplicate CD or are there downloadable drivers for the new buyer???
Help would be soooo appreciated. Thanks!

  • How can I get my blackberry curve 8900 to update to 5.0 and get wifi to work?

I bought a blackberry curve 8900 around a year ago on an AT&T plan back when data plans werent required, so it just has minutes and texting. because of an issue i had with data before, i have data disabled completely on my account to prevent any mistaken data being used up and charging me. my AT&T contract recently expired so i called them up and got my blackberry unlocked, and will be soon switching to tmobile.
My problem is that it refuses to update past 4.6 over to 5.0 because of some restriction on it placed by AT&T, and my wifi wont work unless i have data enabled for the same reason. Is there anything i can do? I've tried installing 5.0 from different service providers onto my phone but it never installs properly.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
While you can (with just a trick or two) use any carriers OS package for your specific model number, it won't do any good since all 5.0 level OS's require a data plan, regardless of which carrier. So, without that, you can't update to 5.0. Further, it is the data plan that activates BIS -- which is what is used to run the BlackBerry Browser...hence that non-functionality also. Basically, a BB without a data plan is, to many, pretty useless.
There are other browsers that bypass BIS and will use a generic data plan (assuming you have that)...OperaMini and Bolt come to mind. You might give those a try.
    Good luck!
