Curve 9300 OS6 Email Settings

I just updated a blackberry 9300 to OS6 and found some issues regarding the email settings. Here are the issues I've found
1. Somtimes, it takes a very long time to load up email settings. For this , I clicked on "Settings", and then "Email Accounts"
2. Under Email accounts, it is obvious that there are 2 types of emails, one being enterprise, and one for the other types.  I wanted to add an emaiil account, however when I click on the first option , nothing happens.
I tried to do some research about this, and came accross articles saying that I need to install "Email Settings", from the desktop manager. So I did, but apparently , it gives me an error that there are dependency issues, which means that I can't install "Email Settings" afterall.
I think blackberry has released an app that is not stable here, and It would really help if there are some updates for this already.

1. It could just be a slow connection to the server.
2. You need to select other types - Enterprise email is for use with a BES server.

  • Curve 9300 OS6 Upgrade

I'm intrigued to try and upgrade my 9300 to OS6, but also very skeptical.  I don't have any corporate support, and can't afford to be down for a day (or days).  I have a few questions:
    1) What is the success rate of upgrading to this OS?  Does it work every time, or are lots of people having trouble?
    2) When you make this upgrade, what gets wiped out and what stays?
Do you lose all configuration settings?
                         Do you lose any files?
Do you lose your email and calendar setups?
Do you just start with a blank device and have to re-customize and re-load everything?
    3) How long does the upgrade take?
    4) Are there any significant business benefits other than faster/better browsing?
    Thanks for the help.

I don't know of anyone here, on this user-to-user community, who has kept any stats. All is anecdotal, and your review of the relevant threads might provide you the insight you desire. Do keep in mind, of course, that forums like this tend to receive input from only those who have problems...rarely do we hear from folks for whom all worked just fine.

Performed properly (e.g., NOT OTA, but via the desktop software), you can first take a full manual backup of everything...see the link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions. The process itself will further take another backup, which it will restore from, and you should not lose anything at all. But, if it fails, you still have that manual backup you took from which to restore, so you can be relatively assured that you are safe (within the limits of all technology, of course...there is no perfection).

It should take no more than an hour I'd guess, but a lot depends on how large all of your databases are...they will take longer to backup/restore if they are larger. But all terms are relative...it will take as long as it takes.

Other users on that specific device and OS level will have to comment.
Do be aware that there is no such thing as "OS6"...rather, there are many release levels within the OS6 major levels. All OS identifications are 4 octets in length, each individual package contains various fixes, enhancements, bugs, etc. But formal information about that is the responsibility of the mobile service providers to release, and they are notoriously lax at doing so.

Does anyone know how to access the Browser Configuration on OS 6's browser? I want to set it to Internet Explorer and don't know how. It seems to have disappeared. I knew how to do it on the old software but since I upgraded I can't.

Did you get any messages saying your email account required validation?  When you go into your Email Setup application, do your email accounts appear?

  • BB Curve 9300 won't connect to email servers

Hi all please bear with me as I try to explain this!
I have a BB Curve 9300 on PAYG with Orange. It has always worked fine and emails for all email accounts always came through.
Then yesterday Orange tried to take the £5 for the BB services but I didn't have enough credit so obviously it all ended. I topped up today and they have taken the money. However my emails are not updating/downloading.
I have checked and I have the latest software and I have gone into options -device- advanced system settings etc and it says my handheld is registered for bb services. (But now when I go to options, I can't find the device option to re do this!). If I go to setup - email accounts, it tries to open up the emails I had set up it says checking etc then comes up with your device had a problem connecting to the server.
I've tried a battery out reset etc to no avail. If I click retry it just keeps coming up with the same message. I can access Twitter and Facebook on it (Twitter is slow and alerts take a good few minutes to come through).
My wifi is set up and working, I've got the 4/5 dots, i'm connected to 3G and have UMA in the top right of the screen. So everything appears to be the same as it was before the payment problem.
Can anyone please suggest what to do? Please keep it simple as I'm not that great with IT stuff, until I know what i'm doing!
Any advice will be much appreciated!!
    thanks
    Mary

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books (pre-BB10 devices only)
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Reboot
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you could try deleting and re-adding your configurations for the affected email accounts. Otherwise, you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
    Good luck!

  • Invisible cursor in email messages on Curve 9300

    Hello,
Just got new Curve 9300 (previously had Pearl). My OS is 6.0 Bundle 2534 (v6.0.0.570, Platform 6.6.0.212). My carrier is Orange.
I have noticed that the cursor is not visible in messages in my Desktop email box (i.e.. Email coming from my employer's BES), but the cursor is visible in other email boxes.
However, in my Desktop email box, I can make the cursor visible by clicking the Shift key.
This is not really a problem, but I am curious whether it is a bug or a feature and whether other Curve 9300 owners have had the same experience.

  • How often does my Curve 9300 check for new email messages?

    Hello everyone,
I hope that you are all well.
I use a Curve 9300 (3G) and assumed that it checked for and retrieved new emails all of the time. However, it seems that it only retreives new messages from my email account every so often. Could someone please let me know how often it checks for new emails?
Also, when I run a Diagnostic Test in the Mobile Network Options menu the result says NO when it tests to see if it is connected to my email account. When I ran tests a while ago the result was YES. Could someone please let me know if this is anything to worry about?
    Many thanks.

First, you have a misunderstanding that the handheld device "checks" for messages. They don't.
RIM's technology on which the company and popularity was built is that RIM servers go out to your email server and checks for new mail and "pushes" those messages to your handheld BlackBerry.
On a normal POP3 email server, that occurs every 15 minutes and if new messages are found they are pushed and the RIM server checks again in 2 minutes for a few cycles, and after 3-4 cycles of two minute checks, if no new messages are found, it reverts to 15 minutes.
On an IMAP email server, the push is instant. An example of this might gmail accounts, yahoo mail, and private domains hosted by GoDaddy.

  • Email set up on Curve 9300 and Music

I have just bought my daughter a used Curve 9300 and am having trouble setting up email account.  In the set up menu the only option for email takes me straight to the Enterprise option - I think I need personal email set up but I do not know where to find it.
Also have a music download issue.  I have synced it to our itunes and although I spent ages specify which tracks to add (using BB desktop software) and it seems to have added the whole libary!  I then tried to remove it all with no success.  Now seem to have double copies of everything!  How do I remove all the music and start again and get it right.
Can you tell I am an iphone user, this BB stuff is all new to me!!

To use the proprietary RIM Push email capability, you must have an adequate data plan from your carrier. The carriers host BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) for their BB users. Typically, BIS is not available via generic data plans. Many carriers call what is necessary The Blackberry Data Plan. Whatever they call it, it is the carrier who delivers BIS to their BB users -- contact them for assistance. Once you have a BIS-capable data plan on your BB (at whatever fees your carrier will charge, btw), you will should have Personal Email added to the email setup wizard.

Activate Mass Storage Mode and manage the music that way. From your PC, you will  be able to treat the BB as a USB drive, with all of the capabilities of file management via PC. You can find out how to activate Mass Storage Mode in your device user guide:

This actually concerns me the most. See this:
KB05099 Steps to take before selling or after buying a previously owned BlackBerry smartphone
If the seller did not properly complete all of their steps, then you have little hope of succeeding at anything with this BB. Further, if the device is not unlocked, then it can only be used on it's original carrier. Further still, if the device model is not specifically supported by the mobile network provider you wish to use, then you will have even further challenges getting it to work, with no guarantee of any success whatsoever.
BB's and i-devices are very very different.
Good luck and let us know!

  • WiFi and email on BB Curve 9300

Bell told me there is no way to use my WiFi in conjuction with email on the Blackberry Curve 9300 unless I sign up to one of their data plans.
Someone confirm this? I would have thought that a device that has WiFi built into it would be able to use the WiFi I have in my house.
I have an Ipod with WiFi and that is what I am using to check emails when I am in WiFi range.

They are correct. To use any of the blackberry push functions you need a blackberry data plan. Once in place you can also make use of a wifi connection.

  • Curve 9300 synching personal contacts has blocked work email address

    Hi,
I administer the cell phones for a small company. One of my new users sucessfully set-up his new BB Curve 9360's email with his work address last week. Over the weekend he synched his new phone with the contacts on his outlook at home which is attached to his personal email.
At first he could not send an email with his blackberry as it was trying to send them from his personal address. He added his personal email address to his new blackberry but now all the emails he sends are from that address.
Ideally, he would like to have all of his contacts on his new phone and have only his work email come to his phone.
    Thanks for the help,

    Thanks for the additional information.
I did go to our Pipex account and set up mrs.yellowtriumph as an alias for the [email protected] account.
So now if go to a computer and send an email to either  [email protected] or [email protected] - then 'yes' the email does get through to the [email protected] account ok - so the alias is clearly working ok.
I thought this was the answer. So, We went to the Blackberry 'set up email accounts' page on the handset and tried to set up an email account for the alias ([email protected]) using the password for the  'abc123' account. However, when the Blackerry 'went off' to check that this account existed (|I think that's what it does?) it came back with an error message along the lines of something like - unable to confirm/access? this account.
Looking at the PIpex information, it looks as though the alias faciity works on a 'day to day' basis - but if you actually want to access the account (which I presume the Blackberry is when it goes away to check the account) then you
have the use the 'real' account name ([email protected]) - so its a vicious circle really and we end up back at square one because the Blackberry cannot interrogate the [email protected] account during the set up phase.
I am not familiar with BIS? Is this something you do/access via the internet? There seems to be no way to do this on the handset itself.
Any info gratefully received and we appreciate the time you have taken so far.
