Curve 9360 OS 7.1 update problems

Couldn't find any threads with this particular problem, so here goes....
I'm trying to upgrade my T-Mobile Curve 9360 to OS 7.1, so I try checking for updates, either over the wireless or connected to the desktop using the BB website and Desktop Software v7.  Every time, it tells me my phone is up to date, even though I'm running OS 7.0.0.319.  The only other version indicated available is the one I already have.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Hello!
Please refer to the official download portal to know what OS packages each carrier has released and is therefore supporting:
http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
Also, at the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for each model. You can use those as reference as you proceed.
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • Update problems with blackberry curve 9360

I need help, I downloaded the latest software update for my blackberry curve 9360, during installation the freezes at 9%, I've looked everywhere for the answer to fix... I've tried safe mode but it doesn't let me select the 'OK' option, I downloaded the bb desktop software where it can find my phone but down the bottom right corner it just says connecting, would really appreciate the help

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

There are two methods of recovery for you to try:
    One:
Open Blackberry Desktop Software & Connect your device with PC using USB cable, without inserting battery.
You will get three option Retry, Update Or Cancel, then click on update.
Once it is to the stage of the update "initializing handheld", then insert battery.
If this does not work, and you remain stuck on the backing up the Social Feeds database, go to the second method below.
    Secondly:
Start your BlackBerry in Safe mode.  Article ID: KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Modehttp://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB17877
Connect to the BlackBerry Desktop Software and allow your handheld to connect. If you are prompted to upgrade, cancel the upgrade for later.
IF you cannot connect or your Desktop Software does not recognize your device while in Safe Mode, please follow the directions here to force the detect:  Article ID: KB10144 How to force the detection of the BlackBerry smartphone using Application Loader
Go to Device > delete > SELECT DATA > select to delete both the Social Feeds and Smart Card databases, and follow the remaining prompts to complete it.
Now, you can return and click to upgrade the device through the Desktop Manager, or reboot the BlackBerry in normal mode and continue the over the air upgrade.

  • Problems with OS 7.1 on Curve 9360

Hello, I am new to the Blackberry world of things having been previous Apple and Android... I have just bought a new Blackberry Curve 9360 on Tesco Mobile (uses o2 network) and, it came pre installed with OS v7.0. (The 9360 came with a 4Gb memory card) As recommended, I have upgraded to OS v7.1 however; I seem to be having several issues with this... 1. Since the upgrade, the OS seems to hang and freeze quite a bit when switching between apps etc. I have tried a battery pull but no different. 2. I don't seem to be able to download some of the apps from Blackberry App World because my device is not compatible. I believe this is probably because the the App Developer hasn't updated the code for OS 7.0 / 7.1?? 3. Since the upgrade, I am unable to install ANY applications because it is saying I have less than 5Mb of storage space remaining on the internal storage. I have tried a battery pull but this hasn't fixed the issue. I also have a Blackberry Curve 9300 for work and, have no problems with this at all and, am very pleased with it. I noticed that my 9300 is running OS 6 and, that I have more apps available than on my 9360 so... If I downgrade my OS to v6.0 on my Curve 9360, will this (1), cure the slowness problem? (2) download the same amount of apps as on my 9300? (3) will a downgrade cure the space issue or, can you provide any other help on this?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Your assumption about app compatibility is correct...every app must be ported to every specific BB model number as well as major OS level. Some developers choose to not do so, others just take longer to catch up.
As for your other issues...every situation is unique. Each BB has a fixed amount of AppMemory which must house the OS, all apps, and some amount of app data, overhead, etc. So, the mixture of those that you choose will determine what you cam have as far as additional apps, performance, etc. But, this KB might give you some help:
KB14320 How to maximize battery life and free memory on the BlackBerry smartphone
You also should try other 7.1 packages...some are reported to be more stable than others.
Sadly, it's pretty much impossible to tell you what the exact results will be for you...every situation is unique as well as every users tolerance levels, so you must figure out what works best for you.
    Good luck!

  • Curve 9360 Charging Problems

I've had a couple problems with my blackberry curve 9360, battery life, slow, freezing, but this one is the worse.
When i go to charge my phone, it doesn't charge properly. I plug it in and it shows a plug type icon in the battery, not the normal charging icon. The phone charges for a minute then goes back to the icon, In order for it to charge properly I have to hold and push the plug harder into my phone.
Is this a problem I should just go to koodo and get fixed? Also, I have had this phone for only 4 months, is it possible I am entitled for a replacement, becasuse Im getting really tired of it.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Run, don't walk, to Koodo. But first, check your paperwork and know your warranty rights and provisions...those will govern what you are eligible for. Be sure to take everything with you so that you can properly demonstrate to them the exact behavior.
    Good luck!

  • Curve 9360 os problems

i am using an redington carrier curve 9360  indian handcet i cannot install os 7.1 on my cell it displays the os 7.0 only after formatting !! can you help ?

Redington might not have released OS7.1, but you can do this manually if you prefer.  Device operating system releases are "released" by specific carriers once they have certified and trained their support techs, but still, you are able to load to any carrier's same model by following the instructions below.
Instructions and download for OS 7.1.0.336 for the 9360
    http://www.blackberryos.com/9350-9360-9370-operating-software/29938-official-os-7-1-0-336-blackberry...
Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.
    1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

  • Curve 9360 not ringing with incoming calls

Good day. I am using a Blackberry Curve 9360 Smartphone.
Hope you can help me, I have inadvertently ticked the "All Alerts Off" option instead of the "Silent" option.
The phone rejects my attemps to change it back to All Alerts on, with a reply "Alerts  Off cannot be editted or deleted"
There's a red tick mark next to the icon, and the icon is also highlighted in red.
The "Normal" option is ticked at the moment but the "All Alerts Off" option remains the same.
Incoming calls go straight to voicemail without a ringing alert, and a sms informs me of a missed call.
Please advise me how to resolve this problem, URGENTLY !!!!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
That is strange indeed...typically, only one profile at a time can actually be active...from what you describe, both Normal and All Alerts Off are active at the same time...not normal. Lets try this...
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Now try to reset your sound profile as you desire.
    Best!

  • Red Light Curve 9360

I have a new Blackberry Curve 9360, barely a few days old.
I was sitting down when my phone fell at knee height onto carpet. The phone was on, with about half battery life, before it fell. When it hit the ground, the screen went blank. I tried a battery pull but this didn't fix the issue.
When I plugged it into my wall charger, a red LED light turned on for around 30s then that turn off. A few seconds later, a battery with a lightning bolt through it appeared on the screen.
I have no idea what the problem is. I've had another blackberry that fell on pavement while it was on and it didn't hurt the phone at all (except for a scratch).
The only apps I have where the ones that come with the phone as well as ScoreMobile, ScoreMobileFC and The Weather Network. However, I highly doubt that these are the problem because my phone had been working fine with theses apps for a couple days.
When I connected the phone to my PC, Desktop Manager could recognize my phone any longer. The error screen read "BlackBerry Desktop Software cannot communicate with the connected device". I do have the lastest update of Blackberry Desktop since I installed it today.
    Please help!

The on-device battery meter is 'off sync' with the actual battery charge. There are a couple of ways you can try to repair this...
Leave the device to charge an hours or so, and then, still connected to the charging cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. Watch over the next couple of days to see if the charge and the battery use is in sync.
Roughly every 30 charges, deliberately discharge your battery to 10-15%, and fully charge to 100% afterwards. This will help maintain the accuracy of the “fuel gauge” on the device (your battery meter or scale).
Don’t drain your battery every day to 10-20% of its charge. You can actually expect battery problems by draining the battery. Again, to repeat, top-off your charge during the day whenever convenient – even ten minutes in the car or at your desk will give you an extra 20-25% charge.

  • Curve 9360 Blackberry ID, other Apps stop syncing after about 2 hrs, must reset each time

I have a new Curve 9360, downloaded google sync, voice, and maps, but not much more.  After about 2 hrs or so, all applications including Blackberry ID, google sync, voice, and maps stop updating.  When I go to Blackberry ID Account, it gives error "Unable to retrieve your Blackberry ID account information."  But after a hard or soft reset all applications work for about 2 hrs.  I have already performed a "Factory Reset" with the Blackberry Desktop Software.
It seems like it must be a global setting that gets changed after a few hours each time.
Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Also the os that's installed is the 1st os 7 released if I'm not mistaken and buggy best to update to latest os.
Once update is do not install all 3rd party applications immediatley some maybe incompatible with os 7. Install 1 at a time and test phones response for a few days.

  • Can't download apps on appworld * Unlocked 2nd hand curve 9360 *

Help! I bought my BB Curve 9360 second hand and, despite making sure I was on a BB supported contract with Orange, have never been able to successfully download apps from appworld. I press 'download' and up comes the Agree/Disagree box, which disappears after I select 'Agree'. And then - nothing. It has returned to the previous screen detailing information about the app and when I check my downloads, there it isn't. I have experienced a similar thing when I go on the payment methods option - I select 'Agree' and the screen doesn't change.
I've been on several other forums but can't find any which have the same problem.
I don't understand whether it's my BB or Orange or what?!
(Oh, and can't use BBM either.. But browser works just fine!)
    thanks in advance...

    Peta_Clark wrote:
None of the above suggested solutions has worked. I'm wondering whether the phone, which was sold to me as 'unlocked' was infact jailbroken and not factory unlocked. Seems likely as it still says 'O2' when starting up.
Nope...the initial "splash screen", if it exists, will forever show that originally manufactured for carrier, no matter what. Rather, see this:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/General-BlackBerry-Functions-and/Unlocking-your-BlackBerry-Gu...
    Peta_Clark wrote:
Based on this assumption, I gather from other forums that businesses sometimes put blocks on their employees' work phones in order to prevent them downloading games etc. Does this seem likely based on the symptoms? I really can't do anything on appworld after agreeing to whatever it asks me to agree to.
It is possible that the BB was previously associated with a BES system, and that the IT policy was not properly cleansed from the BB. If so, then this step is required:
KB18998 How to reset the BlackBerry smartphone to factory defaults
    But, in addition, see this:
KB05099 Steps to take before selling or after buying a previously owned BlackBerry smartphone
If the Seller did not properly complete all of their steps, this BB may never be able to function correctly. For instance, if a BIS account exists for this BB on any carrier system anywhere in the world, then your carrier will be unable to create a BIS account for you. Further, if this BB is reported as lost or stolen, it could be locked out from the ability to properly function anywhere on any carrier.
You really need to talk to Orange and see if they can guide you about those issues.

  • Curve 9360 not getting switched on

    Hi All,
I have a BB curve 9360 and just upgraded my software version from 7.0 to 7.0  bundle 2355. I did this since I read in the forum here that upgrading will increase my battery life. I installed it (after hours of download 197MB!! hour:-) ) cleared every thing and installed the fone as a brand new . I then charged it overnight in switched off mode for around 7-8 hours till the indicator turned from amber to green. I swithched it on and it went on to the booting procedure and then suddenly swiched off!! I tried taking the battery out... waiting and inserting it again but to no avail... then I put it on charging and then took out the battery till i get the "no battery" signal on the screen after 30-40 seconds. then i put the battery back and it finally switched on after all the efforts. When it switched on, I was amazed to see that my fone went into "low battery" mode though it has been fully charged!!!! Well, right now the fone is getting charged.... but I am wondering what happened to the whole "charge"? how come it disappeared in seconds?
Wanted to confirm if same thing happned with others as well as I am confused over the whole episode... has my battery conged off? please note that the fone is just 3 months old and I can get the battery exchanged but the issue is how it happened or is it just another issue with the blackberry usage.
Request users to go ahead and comment on this...
    Thanks for reading....

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Text Message display on Curve 9360

Hi...just got a new Curve 9360. The default text message display shows all messages i.e. if I've sent a text most recently that is what I see at the top. What I want it to do is show the SMS Inbox (which I can navigate to via the folder options, but I can't find a way to set it as a default). Can't work out how to do it either on the device or when connected to the PC. Any suggestions...?...R

Do you mean that currently ALL of your email messages and SMS text messages are mixed in one folder when you view, and you want to see a folder on your homescreen of ONLY your SMS text messages? And your email messages in another folder?
If so, on your device, open that Messages folder > press the Menu key > Options > Inbox Management and check the box on "Text Messages", and save. That will put an SMS Text message folder on your screen.

Will you do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescribed for most glitches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.
After rebooted, let me know what you see on your homescreen?
If it remains the same with this notification bar missing, could you please post a screenshot here?
