Custom borders?

Hi Forum...long time no post...
Question...I was wondering if there is a tutorial out there or if anyone knew if I can create an "animated" border for one of my clips... I've got some 4:3 footage I need to use in a 16:9 project...and it's not as good made "larger"....so I thought to crop it...and maybe put a border around it...better than the basic FC border.... Can it be done in Motion? I don't have photoshop or any other tools...just FCS1
Thanks
Mark

You can do it in FCP...just crop off the top and bottom, then layer MOTION CONTENT behind it. Rather simple really...

  • Creating custom borders

    I would like to create a video in Adobe Premiere Elements 11 with custom color borders around each video clip.  I have not been able to find out how to do this and would appreciate any help.  I would also like to know if this is just not possible so I stop looking.

    Premiere - Help
    I do not know if we are on the same wave length on this, but here is my take on the description of what you seek.
    You should be able to do that using the Titler Shapes. Please take a look at the following blog post, especially the apart about frames. Although the idea was demo'd with still, the concept should be applicable to your video.
    http://atr935.blogspot.com/2013/08/pe11-titler-shapes-for-highlighting.html
    You would put your Title (frame) on Video 2 directly above your video on Video 1 and drag out the title to cover the whole duration of the video below it. In the blog post maybe look at the Lithos Pro Wide White 51 for starters.
    Have you gotten into the use of the Track Matte Key?
    Track Matte (could be created in Titler) in the shape of a rectangle, Video 3
    Video on Video 2 with Track Matte Key applied
    Color Matte on Video 1 with color of frame.
    More later with more details if necessary.

  • How to create custom borders in Illustrator CS5

    Hello,
    I'm working in Illustrator CS5.1 and unsure to go about  creating DASHED borders. The problem I've having is the corners are not connected and they should be. Is there a way to do this.
    Thank you!

  • InDesign Borders

    I'm facing a major frustration, and I'm wondering if there's already a solution, or if this needs to be a new feature to be implemented in future InDesign versions.
    Adobe Illustrator has a wonderful palette for brushes which can be used as borders for text, etc. However, InDesign seems to be at a standstill in its border palette development since.. well, since the beginning of InDesign. With the exception of some minor corner style developments, designers still seem to be constrained to creating flat, simple multi-lined "Quark" style borders. (e.g.: Thick-Thick, Thick-Thin, etc.) with a propriatory file type: *.inst.
    It's impossible to find designers trading *.inst files online, versus the Illustrator Brush file types, *.ai files which can be found in abundance both for free or charge. My theory behind this is that, at some point in the last 10 years, a developer must have intended to expand the border creation abilities in InDesign, but never received any attention and concentrated on other more important features. Well, I'm here to appeal to the developers! It's time! Time, I say!
    Now, why would I want the Illustrator Brush/Stroke functionality in InDesign?
    Well, it seems like a no-brainer to me; it's a matter of workflow. When I'm designing anything more complicated than a logo or digital illustration, such as a flyer, a book, or any other multi-page piece with text and illustrations, I use InDesign for its pre-press abilities, bleed setups, typography styles, linking, etc. Thus, it just makes sense that if I make a border around a page, I should have a nice, wide variety of borders to choose from, or create ones on the fly from Illustrator *.ai files just like in Illustrator.
    This apparent lack of cross-compatibility means in order to achieve anything more than a flat line or easter-egg smiley faces, I'm limited to creating a pre-shaped border Illustrator and placing it into the page. Resizing becomes a disaster as they end up having to be treated as illustrations rather than borders. "Edit original", "Edit original", "Edit original".
    During my scouring of the net for a solution, I've found many other designers out there with the same question., some dating all the way back to CS2 days.
    Incidentally, while we're at it, heck, I'd love to see the same abilities in Photoshop. I mean why not? It's got vector tools in there as well. There really needs to be more universal palettes in the entire Adobe Creative Suite series. It just makes sense. The unification theory of palettes! Mwahahaha! *clasps his hands* Yes, I ask for too much.. but.. well, it's a good idea, ain't it?
    But seriously. It would be of massive use in InDesign; I'm surprised that it doesn't yet exist ten years into InDesign history. Is there a solution at this point? Or is this more of a feature request?
    Cheers.

    I know I'm a trifle late as this question is shown as answered. Anyway, a couple of points. I used to use an app called Graphic Type Designer (GTD for short).
    http://www.graphictype.co.uk/using_gtd.php?
    It could create borders,corner peices, lines and corner effects using specially designed fonts. It would save these designs in WMF (Windows MetaFile) or plain text formats. I used it a lot with PageMaker and for a short while, InDesign as InDesign barely improves on the border selection that came with PM. I had to stop using it as it does not wotk with 64 bit Windows as although it is a 32 bit app, it retains a 16bit installer.
    Anothe alternative I have found today by searching for, and finding some great Illustrator brushes is this site:
    http://www.graphicxtras.com/
    There seems to be a hell of a lot of brushes, borders and patterns for Illustrator on this site alone. As bob says, it is probably best (unles they add a ton more borders and effects in InDesign) to use Illustrator's borders and brush libraries to create custom borders. Hope this helps...

  • Creating specialised Borders, HOW?

    Hi Everyone,
    I am currently creating a number of borders for components on a GUI. I have had no trouble using the standard borders (raisedbevel, line, etc) and I have had no trouble creating a few basic custom borders such as double raisedbeveling. However I am currently trying to create my own Bevel Border with the following method:
    createBevelBorder(int, Color, Color, Color, Color);
    The Color values poss no challenge however I cannot work out the first int part! According to my notes the int part can either be RAISED or LOWERED, however everytime that I type either of these values in I get errors. I know that I am missing a step but I'm not sure what the step is!
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    my code
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.border.BevelBorder;
    myJComponent.setBorder(BorderFactory.createBevelBorder(BevelBorder.LOWERED, Color.CYAN, Color.GREEN ));
    ...and I use the jdk1.4 !!!
    If that doesn't work check your jdk and post your code.

  • Clone column groups with custom cells

    I have set up custom bordered cells meaning to copy them along with the border. Instead only the contents are copied, when I paste the columns the borders are ignored. How do I copy and paste blocks of cells including the borders?

    We may do that in two operations.
    • copy then paste the contents
    • use the "Copy Style" button on the source block of cell
    select the destination block (with the correct number of cells) then use the "Paste Style" button.
    These two buttons aren't installed by default so, we must install them by ourself.

  • Using Borders in Lightroom

    Lightroom doesn't ship with frames or custom borders, but as you may know from Sid Jervis of LightroomExtra.com, Andreas Norén found a way around this. I've just posted a video tutorial on getting frames in the Print Module that differs from the way Sid suggests. It's rough and ready because Garageband wouldn't accept my edits. Check it on on the
    Lightroom Blog

    It is Andreas Norén's idea, Sean and Sid are the presenters! It is brilliant. You can also use this to do a semi-transparent © overlay. Currently works only for print and slideshow. Can't do both at once, though. Maybe in future?

  • Creating a custom LookAndFeel for a JFrame

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a LookAndFeel to draw custom borders and change the layout of the close/minimise/maximise buttons etc on a JFrame.
    I have sucessfully created a new LookAndFeel and I can load and apply my look and feel to a JFrame. My LookAndFeel extends the MetalLookAndFeel.
    My question is which UI delegate (?) do I have to extend to paint my own borders?
    I have to date tried;
    Viewport
    DesktopPane
    RootPane
    InternalFrame
    From the the uiDefaults table printed below I can see that my LookAndFeel is loaded and has installed the items I was trying to use.
    {InternalFrameUI=widgets.feedbackcallout.FeedbackInternalFrameUI, ViewportUI=widgets.feedbackcallout.FeedbackViewportUI, ScrollBarUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalScrollBarUI, ToolTipUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalToolTipUI, MenuItemUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicMenuItemUI, MenuUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicMenuUI, TextAreaUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicTextAreaUI, FileChooserUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalFileChooserUI, PopupMenuUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicPopupMenuUI, ScrollPaneUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalScrollPaneUI, SliderUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalSliderUI, ComboBoxUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalComboBoxUI, RadioButtonUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalRadioButtonUI, FormattedTextFieldUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicFormattedTextFieldUI, TreeUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalTreeUI, MenuBarUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicMenuBarUI, RadioButtonMenuItemUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicRadioButtonMenuItemUI, ProgressBarUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalProgressBarUI, ToolBarUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalToolBarUI, ColorChooserUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicColorChooserUI, ToolBarSeparatorUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicToolBarSeparatorUI, TabbedPaneUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalTabbedPaneUI, DesktopPaneUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicDesktopPaneUI, TableUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicTableUI, PanelUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicPanelUI, CheckBoxMenuItemUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicCheckBoxMenuItemUI, PasswordFieldUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicPasswordFieldUI, CheckBoxUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalCheckBoxUI, TableHeaderUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicTableHeaderUI, SplitPaneUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalSplitPaneUI, EditorPaneUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicEditorPaneUI, ListUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicListUI, SpinnerUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicSpinnerUI, DesktopIconUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalDesktopIconUI, TextFieldUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalTextFieldUI, TextPaneUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicTextPaneUI, LabelUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLabelUI, ButtonUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalButtonUI, ToggleButtonUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalToggleButtonUI, OptionPaneUI=javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicOptionPaneUI, PopupMenuSeparatorUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalPopupMenuSeparatorUI, RootPaneUI=widgets.feedbackcallout.FeedbackRootPaneUI, SeparatorUI=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalSeparatorUI}
    Unfortunately none of these override the border/window decorations of my JFrame, any pointers would be much appreciated ....

    You both had me going nuts trying to figure how to get to that property. Basically just right click the DAQmx property node and "Select filter..." . This brings up the "Configure Filter Settings" where I chose 'show all attributes'. I could then get to the AI Custom Scale Name property.
     Interestingly when you use the Property Browser and select the magnifying glass you can get to that property...but you just can't select it if you have the filter set incorrectly. Lesson Learned.
    I also found this community example and that one.

  • How do you select text behind a shape in Pages 5.0?

    I created a document in Pages 4.x in which I used rectangle outline shapes to create nice custom borders both for the page itself and for some contents in the body of document. (I've used text boxes before, but for this particular document the shapes worked much better and allowed for a look I couldn't achieve with text boxes.) Unfortunately, since updating to Pages 5.0, I can no longer select text within the shape spaces. In order to select and/or edit that text, I either have to delete the shapes first, or move them so that I can click inside the body of the document, and then use the arrows to get to the text I need to edit. This is very time-consuming. Is there an easier way to select text in the body of the document without having to move/delete the overlapping shape? This was easy to do in Pages 4.

    Pablo,
    Making the Shape or Text Box a Section Master will put it behind the text without having to delete or move it.
    Arrange > Section Masters > Move Object to Section Master
    and
    Arrange > Section Masters > Move Object to Page

  • Is there a way to hide gridlines in Numbers?

    This is not the same as custom borders on cells -- I'm referring to the soft gray cell grid on the screen. I'm doing some work requiring screen shots, and they would look better without the lines.

    It doesn't matter if you are setting borders over gridlines or removing gridlines the system is the same.
    The easiest way would be to remove all the gridlines by setting the line option to NONE then set the borders you require.
    If the line is set to NONE instead of changing the colour the grid will show faintly when selected.
    Copy of Setting Borders Post:
    The Border options are on the format bar but the Border options in Inspector might be easier to follow.
    NOTE: Blue double lines show which borders are selected, they disappear when the borders have been changed.
    Inspector > Tables > Cell Borders or Format bar
    First select the cell / cells in your Table or select the Whole table in the sidebar > select which borders you want to change in the Inspector > Then select the line but remember Thin will not allow you to change the next box which is the point size of the line. > next box is color.
    If you just want to select separate lines in the table select "allow border selection" on the Menu bar Table dropdown.
    If you get a mess which we all do at times Select the whole table in the side bar and set the Line option box to None and start again.

  • Newsletter Issue - 11x17 2 page layout problem

    I am doing a 9 page layout. I want it to print on 11x17 (tabloid) paper to reduce the costs. So that's 2 11x17 double-sided and 1-LETTER size double sided pull out.
    The 9th page is a application & evaluation (pull-out).
    I am having trouble finding the 11x17 size on the page set-up. Than once I get it all ready, I send it as a pdf to a copy center via email. So I need your help!

    Hi!
    You can use a custom page size.
    You have to set it up in the page-format-dialogue in the inspector/document.
    Choose format and the then go to paper-format. Choose "custom" at the bottom of the list. You get a dialogue where you can define your own page-format. Click on the "+" set the page-size you want and define your borders. give it a name by doubleclicking the "unnamed" list-entry. Click okay.
    Your custom format now shows up on the lower part of the list.
    (The names can differ for i use a non-english system)
    If the custom borders accord to the minimal technical borders of your printer you can insert paper of the specified size and print.
    I used this for booklet 21*21 cm and it worked.
    If you want printing a booklet that prints i.e. format A5 on a A4-sheet (page 1 right on the back, 2&3 on the front-side and page 4 on the left back) you need other software. I call to remember the name was "cocoa-booklet" (it has been mentioned several times in this forum).
    If you want to printed it professional, simply print it as a .pdf and send it to the print-shop. They usually do the rest. But in this case you should be a bit familiar with cmyk-colouring and how to do this in pages (there are several threads here). If not, the colour of your prints you get can differ from the colours you have on screen (more then nessesary).

  • Add UINavigationController without App Delegate

    I have been researching on how to add UINavigationController (I've been using UINavigationBars since) but all of them include putting the UINavigationController code in the App Delegate. The problem here is that only 2 view (root and detail) are the only ones that use UINavigationController and UITableViews. All my other views (10 so far, more to come) use modal transitions. So creating a UINavigationController in the appdelegate would be useless. How can I add a UINavigationController only in the .h & .m? And then push a detail view controller from a row (Only the top row, but I already have to code working on checking if the user taps on the first row. Right now when the user taps o the first row, it shows the next view in a modal tradition, but I want to replace it with push, but I know my current code works)? Also, the current view I want to be root contains (currently) a UINavigationBar with a done button (left side) and a custom bordered button (on the right), a UITableView, and a UIToolbar with 2 custom buttons and 3 flexible spaces. I need all of these shown (UInavigationBar will be replaced by UINavigationController and the done button needs to show only on the root view and get replaced by back button on the detail, and custom buton needs to remain there on both views.) Pushing view controllers and UINavigationControllers are new to me, I'm trying to grasp it.

    Just create the the UINavigationController wherever you need to show its root view controller. With no storyboard segue you would typically use something like this. I initiated from a UIButton action for this example. Instead of a generic UITableViewController, use the custom view controller class of your root view controller (PauseMenuTableViewController?). If you are using old-school nib/xib, replace initWithStyle with initWithNibName.
    - (IBAction)showWhateverViewButtonClick:(id)sender {
        // create whatever view controller type will be the root of the navigation controller
        UIViewController *rootViewController = [[UITableViewController alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStylePlain];
        // create a navigation controller using that view controller for the root
        UINavigationController *navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:rootViewController];
        // show the navigation controller (modal)
        [self presentViewController:navigationController animated:YES completion:NULL];

  • Button Shape

    Hi All,
    I would like to make a button with the shape of an ellipse/ oval shape, how can I do this?
    Also, I tried to make an image and put it on the button, but the border of the button still apear, how can I fix this?
    Thanks

    b) Check out this article:
    http://java.sun.com/developer/TechTips/1999/tt0826.htm
    That's a decent article, but typically, I would more likely suggest customizing the UI delegate rather than the actual JButton. Some advantages of this are:
    1. The user can switch from the rounded look to a normal jbutton look without changing the actual object that is instantiated -- the component heirarchy doesn't change.
    2. You can apply the same look and feel to Toggle Buttons, etc, without needing to override those classes as well.
    3. Instead of hardcoding how to draw the border, you could create several customized borders, one of which could be installed by the installUI method. This would allow the user to decide to used customized bevel borders, or etched, or matte, etc, borders for his / her rounded button.
    4. You can subclass the UI delegate to create several similar look and feels for rounded buttons, which may not necessarily have the same perimeter and bounded area, because you delegate the contains method to the UI contains method. Again, these still all work with a normal JButton component.
    5. You can switch UI's DURING the application execution EASILY, becase it doesn't require removing one button and installing another, AND transferring all of the event listeners, resetting all of the stylistic properties, etc, etc, etc.

  • Table rulings - help!

    I'm working in Framemaker 7.0, running on XP, and have a problem with a particular table. It runs across multiple pages and I need an outside border at the end of each page. I've already goofed around with settings in Table Designer (where it says: Draw Bottom Ruling on Last Sheet Only)and in Custom Rulings and Shading, but can't seem to figure out why it won't put a border at the end of each page.
    PS. This is a document created by someone else awhile ago.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Anita,
    I make tables all the time and they all display a border at the bottom of the page. Try this to get back to square one:
    In the Table Designer CLEAR the Draw Bottom Ruling on Last Sheet Only box, that is UNchecked.
    Select the entire table, and select the menu Table > Custom Ruling & Shading.
    In the dialog box, CHECK all boxes and select From Table in all lists and dropdowns.
    Click Apply.
    This makes all the rules and shadings match what the table style dictates. If some cells requires special rules and shadings, then you have to select those cells and use the custom rules and shadings box to set them the way you want.
    I am guess that maybe the previous writer gave some rows no rules and that is where the page is breaking, but just a guess.
    There should always be a rule at the bottom of the page unless you check Draw Bottom Ruling on Last Sheet Only in the table designer OR add custom borders of none at the row where the page breaks.
    Good luck,
    Van
