Hello
I need to create custom business content in NW2004s (cubes and data store object for Siebel).
Does somebody know how to create custom business content in BW 3.5/ BI NW2004s?

It seems like you are using IBM DB2 database.
In order to fix it, Please Check SAP Note: 1143932
Fixed: Language limitation on DB2 databases. Set parameter "IBMDB2 Use Long Varchar For Languages=True" in mds.ini file to activate the fix.

Business content - Customer, Business Partner or both
Hi
We have a task where we need to decide which business content to choose: Customer or Business Partner. Our current requirements points out that we can fulfill 90% of the requirement by utilizing the Customer information modell in SAP ECC.
Our MDM scenario (decentralized MDM strategy) looks like this:
Customer created in SAP ECC and then sent via SAP PI to SAP MDM. From SAP MDM the customer data is then distributed to SAP CRM and other non-SAP systems.
Should we utilize both the business content (Customer, Business Partner) in SAP MDM as templates since the business content for Customer is based on ECC and business content for Business Partner is based on SAP CRM. If so I assume that we need to create a syndication to the Business Partner repository for each customer created in the Customer repository. Then we need to initiate a syndication to SAP CRM from the Business Partner repository. Is it better in this scenario to have Customer- and Business Partner in the same repository?
So two questions based on the above input:
Which Business content to use Business Partner, Customer or both?
Should they be in separate repositories or in the same? (I understand that by keeping them in the same we create a more tight connection so that if you want to make changes in the Customer repository we need to unload the repository and thereby also influencing the Business Parter related harmonization processes).

I would suggest to consider Centralized MDM strategy (Still like to know the thought behind Decentralized MDM Strategy).
Customer should be created first in SAP MDM and then it should be syndicated to other systems.
Benefits of having Centralized MDM strategy are...
1. You can differentiate between potential Customers and Actual Customer by implementing Approval process.
2. You can use MDM key strength, that is Match & Merge feature which help avoiding duplicates.
3. You cat get most out of SAP MDM using Centralized MDM strategy.
Which Business content to use Business Partner, Customer or both?
Depends on your business need.
Should they be in separate repositories or in the same?
Having them in two independent repositories will be beneficial, because...
1. For avoiding tight connection (as you stated)
2. You can use SAP Business Content very well.
3. Repositories created based on SAP Business Content will be flexible from long term perspective (Upgrade, Maintenance etc). -

Hi Gurus,
I have following doubts on Extractors can u please clarify the following
1) what is the difference betwwen Business content Extractors and customer generated extractors?
2)why FI-GL and COPA are called as customer generated extractors ?
3)what is the difference between FI and Fi-sl and why FI-SL comes under customer generated extractors Extractors why not FI ??

You will go for Business Content extractor when the Customer requirement match with the content extractor delivered by SAP, other wise you will customize or create a Generic Extractor.

BI Business content in BI 7.0 flow
Is there any place where the release plan for BI Content is available?
The basic thing that I want to know is when will be the BI 7.0 Version of Business Content be available? This would help in deciding to activate the current BW 3.5 flow or wait for BI 7.0 flow.
I am planning to implement the Business Content for Plant Maintenanace (PM). I know that now the content is in BW 3.5 version, but no idea when will it be available in BI 7.0 flow.

My question is whether SAP is providing the Business Content for PM in BI 7.0 flow or not? We have to install the Business Content on BI 7.0 system. So if SAP is providing the content in 7.0 we will install that directly and enhance it when required.
Otherwise we have to install the 3.5 content and then upgrade to BI 7.0 flow as and when we modify/enhance the content. The only problem here is we will have to understand the custom routines in the content and migrate them to BI 7.0.
I hope you understand the requirement.

Copy Update Rule from Business Content
Hi All,
Currently I have activated some standard BI Content E.g. InfoCube 0FIAR_C03, DSO 0FIAR_O03, InfoSource 0FI_AR_4 and all the corresponding update rules.
Now I have copied both InfoCube and DSO into another customized version E.g. ZAR_C03 and ZAR_O03. I managed to copy the same update rule from InfoSource 0FI_AR_4 to ZAR_O03 using the template but I don't have the option of copying the same update rule from ZAR_O03 to ZAR_C03 using the same update rule of 0FIAR_O03 to 0FIAR_C03.
I know I have the choice to manually re-create all the details but is there any other workaround?
Please read through carefully my question. I have seen some forum asking to load data from 0FIAR_O03 to then ZAR_O03 then so forth.
Purpose of doing the above method is because I want to remain the business content as what it is and just to copy it to Z version for customization.

Business Content Activation of business partner
Hi,
I am activating standard business partner from business content.The business partner we have right now is of version 3.3/01 and has lot of custom fields. When I am activating the version 3.5/03 I want to make sure I don't lose those custom attributes and also want to know how this will impact the cubes,ODS,Infosets,Update rules,Transfer rules, queries etc associated with this InfoObject. Can anyone please help me out with this issue.
Also while trying to simulate installation of an InfoObject,it ends up with red light. It gives me a message that one of the attributes in the latest version is a navigational attribute and the older version it was a display attribute.Hence while simulating I check both the install and match/copy box so that I can transfer the selections without having to make it navigational but end up with the red light. Is it advisable that I go ahead with installation or how should I go above it.

when you activate the new version , the version is changed from M to A and the new business content would become the active state...
But then since the old BPartner IOBJ is being used in ODS.. cubes etc , I am not sure if your Business COntent installation can proceed since there is master data as well as the same being used across BW.
You could try a merge instead to see if he new fields as part of the new business content is carried over.

Business Content extractors' "other fields" - How do I get them?
Hi everyone.
I have installed <b>0CO_OM_OPA_6</b> from Business Content, however there are 6 fields that don't appear. If you right-click on 0CO_OM_OPA_6 in DataSource Overview (RSA1-->SourceSystems) and choose "Object Overview", a window pops up with all the contents listed and grouped as Characteristics, Key Figures, Time Characteristics and Units, and at the end there is a section called "Other Fields" which contains the object I want, AUTYP (Order Category).
Does anyone know how to get this? It did not appear when I activated the business content, and it is not available in Transfer Rules or Communication Structure.

yes field AUTYP isn't appear in transfer structure,
checking r/3 side, transaction rsa6, the field AUTYP is a selection, but going detail to table ROOSFIELD (se16), AUTYP has value '1' for field SELECTION, using F1, it's explained
'1': Pure selection field for the DataSource. The customer can change the selection, but not the visibility
it should mean it's not visible, which differ from AUFNR which has value 'X' (selectable and visible).
there also written
'A field that is not visible (or that is hidden) cannot be transferred into the transfer structure.'
we can update the value ROOSFIELD-SELECTION for AUTYP with abap program but don't know it will work or not. -

I am a bit confused with "..include into ODS structure ALL fields required for the cube" but you also noted noted that "...except navigational attributes and chars and KFs that are going to be determined in TRs or URs."
If you exclude ALL these, haven't you excluded all the fields you included in the ODS structure?
4.
"Consider carefully the ODS key fields selection. Their combination should not allow data aggregation that you dont need."
I may be missing the point here, I understand that you need to select the fields which will form the unique ID for the records in the ODS under the Key Field (please correct me if I am wrong with the purpose of the Key Field), but I don't understand the discussion of "aggregation" in the context.

I try to give some exaplanation based on the previous answer.
1. Data redundancy - make sure you do not store the same information. does not make sense to have data redundanty across you Data Warehouse. this is also a cost. just sotre the same information one time if you get all what you need.
2. whatwhever you build you dp, which consist of IO, you need to know with kind of relation (1:1 or 1:n - n:n and so on) exist between them. that will help you when you model you infoprovider. For example I would never pit togheter IO (n:m) in the same dimension if you expect an high number of cardinality. Sometime an IO can be an attribute of another one (depend on relation. For example
Business Partner and his Address. Usually you have a relation 1:1, in this case address is an attribute of BParten and store it in the Masterdata instead then DP
3. Sometime when you load from ODS to CUBE, you can fill some IO (which are in the infocube and not in the ODS)through ABAP routine in TR-Start Routine of Update Rule. Does not make sense to include these IO in the ODS as they are NULL or Blank (the deault value). This can happen when for example, you first load in the ODS (Price and Quantity) and then you calculate Sell price later (Price * Quantity). of course it could be doen also in the Bex. Depends on other factors (Performance - Loaidng -Sizing)
4. Make sure that the KEY definition of ODS is accordingly to the data otherwise you will aggregate the data and later maybe if you need the detail you miss it.
for example: customer - product - Distr Chan - Sell Price
if each Customer can buy each product for any Distrution Channel, then when you build your ODS(Customer - Product and Distribution must be KEY) otherwise (if you have only Customer - Product KEY for example) you will lose the details for Distribution Channel.

What should be needed for cost reports to be activated in Business Content?
Hi experts,
I am completely new to Business Content so sorry if I ask a silly question. Currently we are trying to migrate custom fixed queries to queries from Cubes in Business Content, because the company has growed in the past years.
Our first stage is to have the new queries that report costs for the company.
The reports should consider manufacturing costs such as
- maintenance
- outsourced special services (providers)
- new machinery
(not energy or service costs)
This reports should include country, plant, date, amount, etc.
I have been searching for the modules or cubes that should be activated for this requirement. So far i found that in MM there is a cube 0SRV_C01 that includes external services.
The data from the InfoCube External Services enables you to carry out analyses of services. Using this data, you can obtain answers to questions such as the following: "How much of each service was ordered from a certain vendor?" "What was the order value per service for a certain plant?"
However there should be another information where manufacturing costs could be exploited.
¿Can anyone give me some advice on how to resolve this requirement? ¿ does anyobody know which cube(s) include the information I am looking for?

Hi Guys,
When we are extracting data from LOS for ex, 2lis_12_vaitm, 2lis_12_scl or others. some times we are not using the SAP business content cubes. We are creating our own cubes by using the standard LOS.
Can some one please give a clear explnation of some examples which LOS DS and why we have gone for other then business content cube.

If we want more additional fields to be added to the cube, or the fields in the cube is no longer relevant for our analysis we decide for custom cubes
In that case, we modify the datasources and extract data to accomadate in cubes

Packages extend the concept of development classes to improve modularization, encapsulation, and decoupling in the SAP System.
Development classes, used until now, are simple containers for development objects, provided with a transport layer that specifies how they were to be transported. As an enhancement to development classes, packages include the following attributes: nesting, interfaces, visibility, and use accesses.
Nesting is the ability of a package to include other packages within the package hierarchy.
Visibility is an attribute of package elements. A development element can be visible from outside the package. (It is always visible inside its own package, though not necessarily all the packages embedded in this package). A development element is visible externally if it is included in at least one package interface.
The use access gives a package the right to use the development elements in the package interface of another package. Note that this right is one-way only.

Definition
Related objects in the ABAP Workbench are grouped together in a package. The assignment of an object to a package is entered in the object directory (TADIR). The package determines the transport layer that defines the transport attributes of an object.
The packages are entered in the table TDEVC. They can be maintained in the following transactions:
Transaction SE80 -> Enter package -> Double-click the package
Transaction SM30 - Table/view name V_TDEVC
The packages are themselves objects of the ABAP Workbench. They belong to their own packages.
In contrast to its predecessor, the development class, a package has the following additional characteristics:
Packages can be nested.
Packages can contain their 'visible development objects' (visible outside of the package) in package interfaces.
Packages can have use access defined for other package interfaces.
Use
When an ABAP Workbench object is created, the system prompts you to assign it to a package. The package should describe the area that the object belongs to.
The representation of the object tree in the ABAP Workbench (transaction SE80) uses the package as a navigation aid. If there are more than 100 objects of a certain type (that is, ABAP programs), the object tree can no longer be clearly represented and it becomes increasingly difficult to use the ABAP Workbench. In this case, we recommend creating new packages with the same transport layer and distributing the objects to the new packages on the basis of the areas they belong to.
The following naming conventions for packages determine the packages' functions:
Package begins with A-S or U-X:
These packages are for SAP standard objects. Customer objects cannot be created in them. Changes to objects of these packages are recorded by the Transport Organizer (Request management) and can be transported (see field transport layer.
Package begins with Y or Z:
Customer objects can be created in these packages. Changes to objects in these packages are recorded by the Transport Organizer (Request management). The objects can be transported to other SAP Systems (see the field transport layer ).
Package begins with T (private test package):
When you create a package of this type, you can specify whether you want changes to be recorded. If so, objects that are edited are recorded in local requests by the Transport Organizer. This package does not belong to a transport layer. Objects can only be transported to other SAP Systems if a transport request is created.
Package begins with $ (local package):
Changes to objects are not recorded by the Transport Organizer. The package does not belong to a transport layer. The objects cannot be transported.
Package begins with a namespace prefix:
If you have reserved a namespace, then you can create packages (and other objects) whose names begin with the namespace prefix.
(Example of a namespace prefix /COMPANY/, example of a corresponding package /COMPANY/DEVCLASS)
Changes to these packages are recorded by the Transport Organizer, and can be transported.
