Custom cmyk profile not in proof setup

Working with Blurb.com Printer Profile CMYK  named Blurb_IC_Profile.ICC
Opened profile  and saved in Rose/AppData/Local/Adobe/Profile
Cannot bring it up in soft proof setup.  Also when I close CS5 and reopen the profile is no longer in that location.
I tried to see if the profile would work with changing the cmyk setting in the color settings under edit.
CS5 menu comes up and states not a good working cmyk profile and does not load it.
From what I have read on the Blurb forums people have downloaded this profile and it works.  No replies
for 2011, last was 2010.
I wanted to know if there is a special way to load this profile that I'm not aware of as I checked several photoshop sites
to ensure this was the right spot to put the profile in.
I am using Srgb setting for the images and  now want to soft proof them in cmyk before sending up to the Blurb they use
4 color press Hp printers.
Thanks
Rose

If you look closely at the image that states  blurb profile locked – there is a little golden image of a lock next to the blurb profile and it is locked – similar to what
we see when we open a image for the first time and there is a lock (layer background) so you double click it and then background layer becomes “o” .
I followed your image.png and your profile too.  I have watched their video 3 or 4 times.  I watched a color management
color flow for an hour in Blurb. But the one hour video is using a Mac instead of Windows and the profile was already
installed on the mac but they showed the process on the mac on where to place it – not windows.
I am doing everything that is shown for windows and where you told me to input the blurb profile,
However, when I close and reopen photoshop I do not see a blurb profile in proof setup.\
The 1 hour color management video shows that the profile is named Blurb.icc but it is not in my
setup for custom proof.   That video is done with a Mac and different placement  folders.
I can only assume that Blurb.com profile needs to be changed or updated.
I sent emails to them today again and hope to see some answers monday.
There showing a 32 bit profile video instead of 64 bit but you did help me to  get the profile in the right spot.  It is a very short
video for the download process.  two screens to be exact.
They don’t have a phone number or I would call them personally.  I have sent emails with pictures today.
Thank you
Rose

  • Specifying dot gain curves for custom CMYK profile

I am trying to create a custom CMYK profile that would mimic the FOGRA39 (coated) ICC profile but would provide more control.
When creating a custom ICC profile, I'm trying to specify the dot gain curves manually by entering the Tonal Value Increase data published by the International Color Consortium. But the last data point at far right (100 on the horizontal axis) always remains at 100% high instead of the appropriate 0%. In other words, the point at the top right corner should actually be at the bottom right corner. The point is uneditable, because it doesn't have a corresponding 100: entry field.
This is how the curve should actually look like:
I want to place the last point at the bottom right corner but I cannot figure out how to do that. I'm using Photoshop CC 2014 on Windows 8.1.
Do I misunderstand anything about the dot gain curves? Is this a bug? Does it actually affect the dot gain for dark shadows or is it merely a display problem?
I would appreciate any pointers to information about this problem.

Thank you. I have figured out by experimentation that you are right. I've fixed my dot gain curves to look like this:

  • Customized User Profiles not loading for Network Users

I manage Macs in public computer labs and classrooms at a university. My general set up is as follows:
Clients are running 10.8.5, OD Masters are running 10.7.5. Open Directory Master to manage client preferences for Login window and screen saver. Clients bind to Active Directory for authentication purposes only. Networked users home directories are stored locally then deleted at log out. Using Deploy Studio to image and restore clients.
My customized user profiles are stored in /User Templates/Non_Localized.lproj.(I also update English.lproj for any local users that may need to be created for various reasons).
Recently I have come across a situation where, randomly, my customized user profile does not load at Login, and I am given the out-of-the-box default Apple profile. This is happening in 11 of my 14 labs. I have three labs that seem to not be affected by this.
On some labs I manage the DHCP, some labs I do not, and rely on our Networking group to supply DHCP and DNS. Because of this setup I have six different DNS server that may be in the mix. Two are Unix boxes, the other four are the Active Directory Domain Control servers. I did create a spreadsheet of all the AD/OD settings for each lab to see if I could find some kind of pattern, but don't see a way to upload it.
The one thing I do notice is that when I do a mass login using a shell script via Apple Remote Desktop, when the profile fails to build correctly, the user login is quick, much quicker than when the correct profile loads. Almost as if a packet is sent the the OD server, it's rejected, and bam, Apple's default profile loads.
I have flushed the DNS cache of the local clients using killall --HUP mDNSResponder
I've got one week to figure this out before classes start, so if you have a clue as to what's going on, I sure would be grateful.
Here are logs from both the admin's account and the user's account when the default profile fails to build:

  • Custom color profiles not showing as available in InDesign CC

This is a college graphic design lab environment with iMacs running 10.9.4 and the CC versions of Adobe programs
We have a variety of custom color profiles for our specific printers and media.  They're located in a special folder and an alias of that folder is located in /Library/Colorsync/profiles.  The profiles in that folder do not show up  as available for selection in InDesign CC.  They did before the upgrade to the CC version.  They do show up in Photoshop CC, Lightroom 5 and Illustrator CC.  Is this a known InDesign flaw?  Any ideas for a fix... preferably one that doesn't involve moving the profiles?
    Thanks
    Bob Smith

I had the same issue when playing with my Xerox Phaser 6110 profiled with colormunki. All software except Aperture (3.0.3) recognized the profile (Color Sync, Print dialog, Preview soft-proffing, even LR 3b2). I too tried all possible locations and none worked.
Then I opened the profile in ColorSync, and edited (Profiles -> Xerox... -> Open ->'desc' tag) Ascii and unicode descriptions to read aaa.icc and did a Save As aaa.icc and there it was, available in Aperture, too.
To my great disappointment the soft-proof feature in Aperture seems to be broken for some monitor/printer profile combinations, and is compatibly broken for printing from Aperture. What happens is the resulting image is way too degraded, even beyond the (admittedly crappy) photo printing capabilities of this printer.
IOW printing the same JPG via Preview and/or soft-proofing with the printer's profile yields way more consistent results. Totally unacceptable for a €200 piece of software.

  • CMYK Profiles Not Options On Output?

Short : CMYK profiles are not showing up as export options. Why?
    Long:
I have recived a profile from the Printers [12 hours before the files have to be in ] and it's not showing up in Aperture. In fact no CMYK profiles show up in the export options. It does let me proof the colors so I know that the profile is installed, but doesn't allow me to export. Please tell me I don't have to re-process them all in Capture One [I guess I could batch them in photoshop.]
    Thanks for any advice.
    -J

There was a similar complaint in the Lightroom forums. One response seemed to sum up the situation which many others supported in a number of threads. Here's that one post (it was not from me) -
" Don't see much value in putting such capability into Lightroom. Nobody but prepress people want files in CMYK. And photos should not be converted to CMYK until they're ready to go to the printer, or maybe even let the printer do the conversion.
Lightroom is about what happens to photos before they go CMYK. It's such a restrictive color space that no one should be storing photos that aren't already converted for the specific purpose of printing. They should remain PhotoProRGB or Adobe RGB. Even sRGB should be reserved for exported jpegs.
The best solution is to create a folder action Applescript and when you drop files into the folder they are automatically converted to CMYK."

  • Custom lens profile not working

I decided to create a custome lens profile for my old Canon EF 17-35 2.8 L USM lens. I downloaded the Adobe Lens Profile creator and studied documentation. After figuring out it is time taking process I finally decided to shoot over 500 hundred images with the lens in RAW format with my 5D Mark III.
First I was a little too optimistic and imported all the photos to ALPC without separating them to distance groups. I shot 9 photo sets with apertures 2.8, 4, 5.6 and 8, focal lengths 17,  20, 24, 28 and 35 from 3 different distances. The ALPC created the profile ok (there were some skipped photos) and I can select that profile both in LR5.2 and PS CC. However nothing changes in the picture when I select that profile. I read the documentation again and decided to start again with just one set of 9 pictures (17mm, 8.0, one shooting position) profile gets created and is selectable in LR and PS, but it affects nothing. Even if the target photo (RAW) is shot with different focal length or aperture, shouldn't the approximation used then and some visual change to be seen?
    What am I doing wrong?

Please send the profile and an example raw image (taken with this 17-35 lens) to me at [email protected] (dropbox, yousendit.com, etc.).  It will help me determine what is going wrong.

  • Custom printer profiles not showing up

Has anyone found a resolution to this.
The RGB Spyder Print custom profile is installed in the correct directory and is associated with my Epson R2400.

    > I now got one profile that won't show up, the one for a Tecco PPG250
    > (RC semigloss).
    > Really weird, because the profiles of the RC luster (PL285) and of the
    > FA textured-matte (BP210), which shouldn't radically differ, do show up
    > instantly in the LR dialog after install.
    Sorted out!
In my personal case, that is only THE LAST PROFILE, by internal name / alphabetical order, that doesn't show up in the "other..." dialog - always one at a time hidden.
So, I edited an old minilab profile I won't use in LR to show internal name as "ZZ Frontier ...".
I now see all the profiles I want in LR - only the (long forgotten) frontier profile is missing.

  • Soft Proofing:  View Proof Setup Custom:  Profile Disappears when Re-opened

    Photoshop CS6 on Mac
Edit an image file and get it to where I like on the monitor
Duplicate the file and set the new file to the profile for the printer which will be used, by using View > Proof Setup > Custom and setting an imported printer profile for the printing company that I use.
As soon as you do that, the file looks like crap, so...
Edit the soft proof file to get it to where it looks good again.
Save off the file for the printer and also save the new PSD file.
    Close the PSD file.
Reopen the new (soft proofed) PSD file.
Still looks good, but.... when you check View > Proof Setup it's now generally set to Custom: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 instead of to the imported printer profile which was set previously.  WHY????  Where did the printer profile go?  Is it supposed to do this?
If I then reset View > Proof Setup to the correct printer profile, the image goes to crap again.
Is this me doing something wrong, or is the PSD file not properly remembering the printer profile, or... what's going on here?
    Thanks much!

None of what you write makes any sense whatsoever to me, sorry.
Let's start by using correct terminology.  For the last time, you are not "importing" any freaking profile.  Wrap your head around that once and for all, please.
Let me try once again, totally disregarding the scenarios you were unsuccessfully attempting to describe above.  Forget all that mumbo jumbo for now, please.
You have not mentioned what your working space is, so let's assume it's Adobe RGB.
You have finished editing an image, so now you have an AdobeRGB-tagged image.  Fine.
Now you want to soft proof it to see what it will look like in that FujiWonderPrinterInAlaskaUsingMatteThaiElephantPoopPaper printer in Anchorage.  (Made up names of course.)
So you make a duplicate COPY of your finished image file named BabyPictForPrint.psd.  You're still in Adobe RGB, of course.  You put the original away in a safe and forget about it—forever.  That's like your negative in film days.
Now you soft proof the BabyPictForPrint.psd COPY by using the infamous FujiWonderPrinterInAlaskaUsingMatteThaiElephantPoopPaper.icc profile the outfit in Alaska sent you.
When you soft proof it with that Alaska profile, you have not imported anything.  Photoshop is simply using the profile you pointed it to to show you in your monitor what it would look like.  Your pixels so far are untouched, yet yo see your image "die" before your very eyes.  Ouch!  Now you need to compensate for the effect of printing under those proposed conditions, so you set about the task of editing the copy accordingly.  Remember, you're still in Adobe RGB.
Once you have the copy just the way you like it, YOU SAVE ALL YOUR CHANGES in that copy.  Now you have a fully edited image file in the Adobe RGB space but tweaked to look fine when printed in the FujiWonderPrinterInAlaskaUsingMatteThaiElephantPoopPaper printer.
At that point you are done!  Finished!
Now you are faced with two choices:
    A) Sending the finished, saved ADOBE RGB COPY to your printer if you consider him capable of knowing what he's doing.  (If you think he does not know his business, look for another printer).  Or…
    B) Assume you're dealing with a moron on the other end who wants the image CONVERTED to his custom FujiWonderPrinterInAlaskaUsingMatteThaiElephantPoopPaper.icc.  If that is the case, then open your COPY in Photoshop, go to the Edit menu > CONVERT to Profile… and convert the copy to the infamous FujiWonderPrinterInAlaskaUsingMatteThaiElephantPoopPaper.icc profile.  It's critical to use CONVERT TO Profile, not "Assign Profile"!
At that point, under scenario B), you do not EVER want to return to Proof View / Soft Proof mode, ever, EVER again, because then you would be applying the profile doubly and you'd see your image die before your eyes once again, and if you edited it you'd have real elephant poop!
    Hope that helps.

  • Adding Custom Profile under Proof Setup

In prior versions of PS, if I added a custom profile under Proof Setup, it would be pinned to the Proof Setup menu (along with the default profiles).  That doesn't appear to happen in PS CS6.
Is there a specific place I need to save the custom Proof profiles to so that they will appear in the menu?

I have had no issues with that and the location for me is
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Proofing/
Where exactly have you saved the file to?
    Could you provide a screenshot?

  • Custom profile not appearing in "Devices to simulate"

I've downloaded a custom printer/paper profile from Dry Creek Photo for my local Costco. I've saved the .icc profile to to the Users\[user name]\Library\ColorSync\Profiles folder. However, when I try to soft proof using View > Proof Setup > Custom, I cannot find the newly installed file under the "Devices to Simulate" window. Have I missed a step?

Did you relaunch Photoshop or rebooted your Mac after the installation?
Also be mindful of the fact that profiles have two names:  an external one which you see in the Finder when you look at the profile icon, and an internal one, which is what shows in Photoshop.  If the two names are not identical, you need to look in the list a little more carefully, or ask Dry Creek what the internal name of their profile is.

  • Generic questions about CMYK profiles and proofing

I just read a big book about color management and am trying to make it happen but it seems that in real life I can't get good results.
I have my scanner profiled and it produces aRGB docs.
All good and fine. The images look good on the monitor (which also is profiled.)
Now these images I place inside InDesign as aRGB.
And at some point comes the time for soft proofing.
So I start experimenting with different CMYK profiles.
First question: Should I already do a CMYK conversion for my images in Photoshop or is it ok to do it in InDesign when exporting to PDF?
Coated Fogra27/39, ISO Coated v2 and Euroscale Coated v2 seem to change the colors only slightly.
But when I turn on "Simulate Paper Color" all hell breaks loose. The paper color seems to be always a cold horrible grey and the image is darkened and dulled. It looks like in need of serious color correction.
And further how do these generic profiles know about my paper color anyway?
So maybe this feature should only be used if the profile is custom made for a specific printer and paper.
Second question: has anyone succesfully used the simulation of paper color with a custom made profile?
But it seems that custom profiles are something I can only use at home because the printing service providers seem to be quite unaware of profiling their machines for a specific paper (or profiling it at all).
They tell me to send a "pure" CMYK file without any profiles. But that is impossible because to transform an RGB in CMYK one MUST use a profile.
Third question: Which kind of profile should I use when I am instructed to provide a profile-less CMYK document?
And finally what is the purpose of proofing in the first place if I don't know exactly the profile created for the combination of the output machine and output paper? This issue becomes clearer when using (slightly) colored paper.
    - Rami Ojares

    >First question: Should I already do a CMYK conversion for my images in Photoshop or is it ok to do it in InDesign when exporting to PDF?
You can save the conversion until you make the PDF if you like, especially if you don't know the correct profile in advance, but you lose the ability to fine-tune and individual image.
    >But when I turn on "Simulate Paper Color" all hell breaks loose. The paper color seems to be always a cold horrible grey and the image is darkened and dulled. It looks like in need of serious color correction.
I think this is mostly a case of your eye accommodating to the brightness of the screen. I'm not sure how to avoid this, and I generally don't use the simulate paper color. Comparing my screen to the real printed output without the simulation seems pretty close. Even a generic profile makes an assumption about the color of the paper stock, but a custom profile would be more accurate.
    >Third question: Which kind of profile should I use when I am instructed to provide a profile-less CMYK document?
As you already said, you can't do the conversion without knowing the profile. What they are asking is that you don't embed that profile when you do the conversion to PDF. This means they can use a file prepared for the wrong profile and not risk further conversion at the RIP which would create rich blacks from you 100% K elements (type), but the colors wouldn't be 100% correct unless the profile you chose for conversion originally matched the press.
Generic profiles are a quasi-standard that most presses can match, but may not be able to produce quite as wide a color gamut as a custom profile, but many presses don't have a custom profile available. You should ask for a "contract proof" to check the color before the press runs, and if possible go to the printer for the make-ready and check the color on the press before the whole run is printed. There is a LOT of color control available to a skilled press operator, and expect some variation through the run.

  • Cs5.5 - OSX 10.7 CMYK ICC Profile not visible?

    Hi
    Hoping someone can help here.
IT department have installed a new Macpro into our prepress/design area using OSX 10.7 Lion with CS5.5 and now we are not able to use/see any of the custom CMYK ICC profile we use for printers - laser or epson wide format inkjet on any of the CS5 apps.  Prior to the new mac we had no issues as we were using 10.6.8 and CS4.  I have read through many forums and release notes regarding issues with Lion and CS5 but haven't found any reference to Custom ICC Profile issues.
The ICC profile we urgently need is for our Epson 7800 using custom stock for proofing - specifically supplied for our color management to output to Forgra39 standard.
Had a specialist come in and he's baffled as well.
Any help with this would be MOST appreciated.
    Thanks Mike

The ICC profiles are not visible to Applications as Output profiles i.e. Printer profiles.  We have double checked the paths and they are correct and the profiles are installed.  but they do not show up in Indesign, illustrator etc as a printer profile... In fact no cmyk profiles (even those supplied from Adobe i.e fogra39.icc) show up.   When we open up colorsync we can see them but when we try any application to output to a cmyk print (laser or inkjet) the cmyk profiles are not visible.
any help much appreciated in advance
    cheers Mike

  • Is it possible and how to create bright preview mode for a custom Proof Setup

You know how there is Proof Setup preview modes under the View menu. Can I create a custom preview mode so that when I choose it and press Ctrl + y it shows the image very bright without changing it.
I need this because I want to see and edit more details in the dark areas which I may not be seeing on my monitor or room lighting conditions and thus to create images with more rich and dynamic shading in the darks so when viewed on brighter monitors or when levels are eventually changed the darks reveal nice shading instead of flat black.
I'm looking for per image solution that doesn't affect other images or applications like using global gamma.
    I'll greatly appreciate your help

That's what I use Adjustment layers but they are a big pain because the color picker can't disregard them. So every time I want ot use the color picker I have to hide the adjustment layer and then when I paint I have to enable it again. I want a color picker that picks from all but not the adjustment layer. This makes this workflow impossible. I need this for painting artworks from scratch.
There are no two equal monitors out there and some are quite off, so I want to create artworks that look as good as possible on all kinds of monitor including miscalabrated ones. These are samples to sell artwork. Not only that but the artwork often is edited from other designers not by brush repainting but using global adjustments like levels. And I don't want to use 32 bit workflows. What I'm asking will serve the purpose perfectly.
I feel that since PS pulls the preview information from profiles that probably reside in files somewhere, I can modify a copy of a profile and I was hoping if someone here knows more details about this and helps.
    Thanks anyway

  • Custom Proof setup script issue

Hey all, I'm writing some code here that applies a specific icc profile via the View>Proof Setup>Custom  > Device to Simulate: dialogue.  Forgive me for the lengthy post, I'm just trying to figure out if I've hit a software bug here or maybe my code is just lacking.  At any rate, here's the rundown:
The reason I am writing this is because I'm in a situation where I have hundreds (literally) of different .icc profiles to load at any given time, but if I load them all in at once, then if I try to view the list of .icc profiles, it takes a long time for PS to build that list.  So what I've devised is to use the name of the file in order to copy the necessary .icc over from where it lives to the local machine.  Currently this works like a charm.  The script opens the file, finds the .icc and copies it over to the right directory for PS to be able to read it.  No problems there.  The problem comes in with refreshing that list....
This is where it gets tricky for me,  to help illustrate, I've added a pic here of the file menu item i'm referring to, and the resulting sub-menu in question
So just to be clear, the problem is with the "CPC Menu" when I copy files over, they appear just fine, but the hitch is that they are invisible to PS until I call the CPC>Device to Simulate list manually.
If I try to assign the .icc file using a script, it will work if the .icc has already been seen by literally showing the Device to Simulate list, but until that list has been manually updated, assigning the .icc profile will throw an error and not apply the .icc profle.
Hopefully this makes sense, I'm hoping that there's some sort of full app refresh command that will force the list to be rebuilt.  A couple things to note is that I've tried the app.Refresh() command, and that hasn't helped at all, it seems to only refresh the graphic components as opposed to lists.  Another thing I found to be interesting is that the CPC>Device to Simulate list is rebuilt when you create a new document, but I run into the same problem if I have the script make a new document after copying the .icc over but before trying to apply it.  Is this a known bug or is there any way I can get some help with this?  I can't really post the code, but I don't think the code is the problem here anyhow.  At best I could post some stripped down code but I'm hoping someone from Adobe might see this and know exactly what sort of wall I'm hitting.  Thanks in advance!

You need a color profiling system (hardware/software) to create ICC profiles. Another alternative is to use a service like Chromix. There are several other service companies on the internet as well.

  • Illustrator CC how to setup custom document profile

How do I set up a custom document profile in Illustrator CC and save it for future use?
I do not see any way to save it.

I think you have to create a new document, set all your preferred options, leave it empty, and save it as a template file, ready to reuse .
    Otherwise you can:
Create a new document, set all your preferred options, leave it empty, and save it in the same folder of the adobe preset.
To find the correct path select the preset profile menu, in the new document window, and choose browse.
    I hope this help"
