Custom cursor is too slow in FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE
My custom cursor is fast in window mode (even maximized) but not in fullscreen where it is really slow.
Is there a solution to this?
Dear Rob,
Thanks for your answer.
I have put together a simple test case (see attached zip file) and the custom cursor is still "too slow to be usable" in fullscreen mode. Run it and see that the cursor is fast in window mode. Then hit ctrl+enter to go into fullscreen and see how slow the cursor becomes.
Code:
package
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.events.KeyboardEvent;
import flash.ui.Mouse;
import flash.ui.Keyboard;
import flash.display.StageDisplayState;
import flash.display.MovieClip;
public class Main extends MovieClip
private var _mousePointer:MousePointer;
public function Main()
super();
Mouse.hide();
_mousePointer = new MousePointer();
addChild(_mousePointer);
stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, onKeyboardDown);
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, onMouseMoved);
private function goFullscreen(fullscreen:Boolean)
if(fullscreen)
stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE;
else
stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.NORMAL;
private function onMouseMoved(evt:MouseEvent)
_mousePointer.x = mouseX;
_mousePointer.y = mouseY;
evt.updateAfterEvent();
private function onKeyboardDown(evt:KeyboardEvent)
if(evt.controlKey && evt.keyCode == Keyboard.ENTER)
goFullscreen(stage.displayState == StageDisplayState.NORMAL);

Custom cursor using image gets resized bigger
I have created a custom cursor using the following code:
ClassLoader cl = this.getClass().getClassLoader();
Toolkit tk = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
Image im = tk.getImage( cl.getResource("images/wallcursor.gif"));
Cursor Custom_Cursor = tk.createCustomCursor(im,new Point(9,9),"Drawing wall");
draftGrid.setCursor( Custom_Cursor );The cursor is loaded and it works, however - the image I use for the cursor is resized so it gets too big. Any clues on why this happens?
btw; draftGrid is one of my own classes that extends JComponent.
- bjornThanks for your replies guys.
I tried your code KPSeal, and it works in resizing the cursor image back to its original size. However, a gray square of size 32,32 (which is returned by getBestCursorSize()) is shown round the cursor.
Here is the updated code (yours hade some minor bugs)
Image im = tk.getImage( cl.getResource("images/wallcursor.gif"));
try {
tracker.addImage(im, 0 );
tracker.waitForID(0);
} catch( InterruptedException ie ) {
ie.printStackTrace();
int w = im.getWidth(this);
int h = im.getHeight(this);
int pw = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getBestCursorSize(w, h).width;
int ph = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getBestCursorSize(w, h).height;
System.out.println("w="+w+", h="+h+" - pw="+pw+", ph="+ph);
Image cim = createImage(pw, ph);
cim.getGraphics().drawImage(im,0,0, this);
Cursor Custom_Cursor = tk.createCustomCursor(cim,new Point(0,0),"Drawing wall");
draftGrid.setCursor( Custom_Cursor );The System.out.println statement prints: w=18, h=13 - pw=32, ph=32
If I try to do the createImage with w and h instead of pw and ph the same gray square (32,32) is created, and in addition the cursor's size is too big which was the probem to begin with ...

Hi all,
how to tune A PL/SQL block that traverse cursors and fetch millions of records then execute inserts in different tables,
using execute immediate statement.
It's too slow and takes 10 hours to populate 40 tables having millions of records,
as i have to do some modifications in data so can not do it by CTAS,

Forall bulk delete is too slow to work,seek advice.
I used PL/SQL stored procedure to do some ETL work. It is pick up refeshed records from staging table, then check to see whether the same record exists in target table, then do a Forall bulk deletion first, then do a Forall insert all refreshed records into target atble. the insert part is working fine. Only is the deleteion part, it is too slow to get job done. My code list below. Please advise where is the problem? Thansk.
Declare
TYPE t_distid IS TABLE OF VARCHAR2(15) INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER;
v_distid t_distid;
CURSOR dist_delete IS
select distinct distid FROM DIST_STG where data_type = 'H';
OPEN dist_delete;
LOOP
FETCH dist_delete BULK COLLECT INTO v_distid;
FORALL i IN v_distid.FIRST..v_distid.LAST
DELETE DIST_TARGET WHERE distid = v_distid(i);
END LOOP;
COMMIT;
end;

Justin:
The answers to your questions are:
1. why would I not use a single DELETE statement? Because this PL/SQL procedure is part of ETL process. The procedure is scheduled by Oracle scheduler. It will automatically run to refresh data. Putting DELETE in stored procedure is better to executed by scheduler.You can compile SQL inside a PL/SQL procedure / function just as easily as coding it the way you have so that's really not an excuse. As Justin pointed out, the straight SQL approach will be what you want to use.
>
2. The records in dist_stg with data_type = 'H' vary by each month. It range from 120 to 5,000 records. These records are inserted into target table before. But they are updated in transactional database. We need to delete old records in target and insert updated ones in to replace old ones. But the distID is the same and unique. I use distID to delete old one and insert updated records with the same distID into target again. When user run report, the updated records will show up on the report. In plain SQL statement, delete 5,000 records takes about seconds. In my code above, it take forever. The database is going without any error message. There is no trigger and FK associated
3. Merge. I haven't try that yet. I may give a try.Quite likely a good idea based on what you've outlined above, but at the very least, remove the procedural code with the delete as suggested by Justin.

Hi,
I've added some video to my Captivate7 module. The video loads too slow, so by the time it comes on the timeline has already past all the vital parts.
The module was generated in SWF, which is what is required by my customer.
Any advice?
Thanks,

Quality Custom Cursor (Dukes)
I have created my own Custom Cursor that is displayed while a long task is running (in a different thread) to show the user that the program is busy.
Cursor search1 = myToolKit.createCustomCursor(myToolKit.getImage("Resources/Images/Cursor1.png"), new Point(0, 0), "Search1");Sun says:
Note that multi-frame images are invalid and may cause this method to hang.
So I created a Timer that changes the icons every 500ms to give the impression of a slow animated cursor.
This works, however,
There are three problems:
1. The time between changing frames is not 500ms, it seems to be very jumpy. It is running in a different thread so I thought it wouldn't be a problem. Is there any way to regulate this?
2. The size of the cursor seems fixed, can I change it? (The size of the Image I use for the CustomCursor does not seem to make a difference)
3. The quality appears really bad. I am using a png file that looks really clear at 100% size in Photoshop. Should I use a particular format?
Thanks for any help
CharlieThanks very much for the quick reply.
I have done a bit of testing on your suggestions..
1. You could try upping the priority of that thread.Seems to work (sort of), think I'm just going to leave it!
2. Depends on your OS. See Toolkit.getBestCursorSize.Whatever size I give it, the bestCursorSize comes out as 32x32. Do you know if any other sizes are supported or if I can override it e.g. 64x64? Using XP (Can I change the settings in the OS?)
Would it just be best to resize my image files then?
3. See Toolkit.getBestCursorSize API doc.Thanks!
Think I'll give you the Dollars unless someone else comes up with a great answer soon

Nokia UK too slow to release firmwares for sim fre...
Why are Nokia UK being so slow in releasing a firmware for the UK sim free variant? I specifically bought an unbranded phone so I did not have to wait for a network branded update that may or may not happen. I read there is some customisation needed for the UK variant. What specifically is different? I mean the UK is one of the biggest markets for mobile phones, should we not be high on your priority list?
Considering this is your flagship phone, I am pretty disappointed with support thus far. Also in case anyone is wondering I know this is a user to user forum, but I also know Nokia employees do post from time to time!Hi Recall,
I don't work for Nokia so I can't comment on exactly whythey delay the release of firmware into the UK market but I do work in thehandset test industry and can explain the possible reason(s). I'mactually writing this from my hotel in Brasilia where I'm testing a device notas 'complicated' as the N97 and this is still taking 2 weeks.
I would like to point out that even the smallest changein software can have a big impact on the rest of the code so thorough testingis required. We call this regression testing in the industry and with theN97 device being so feature and technology rich it can take time to testproperly. Everything, and I mean everything has to be tested. Togive you an idea you are looking at GSM, GPRS, EDGE, R99 and R5 testingincluding calls, SMS, MMS, EMS, Email, Contacts, Bluetooth. incoming calls,outgoing calls, international calls, call forwarding, call barring then all theusability and product testing such as the GUI features and add-ons specific tothe N97. Now I have some reservations with Nokia on the N97 as some ofthe failures we see on the device you would have thought would have been caughtduring this type of testing previously. When you get customized versionsof code too, say Vodafone and the likes' all this needs done with that too.
As you say the UK is a big market for Nokia but that alsomeans they need to be extra vigilant on the quality of their software as anymajor failure could have a huge cost impact for device recall/service etc forNokia. However this is something you would have thought Nokia would haveplanned for during the release schedule of all their devices.
The other point is they may have found a bug in the codewhich only is apparent in the UK (or on UK networks) which would mean thesoftware they released they done so as an interim solution to other countriesto address the list of issues and upgrades while working on a newer version tobe released which includes a fix for the UK failure. This is just hypotheticalbut I've seen it happen before.
Sorry I've not answered you question with a direct answerbut it may help you, and others understand why we sometimes see such delays inthe release(s).

XML Parsing far too slow. (How can I speed it up)
Hey everyone,
I am converting a site from ASP to JSP and there are a bunch of pages that parse an XML document display certain information from it. One problem is that the JSP implementation I have is far too slow. It takes ~6 seconds to load the page as we wait for it to process. I am using <x:parse> and <x:forEach> to process it using an XPath statement with the appropriate predicate ($dom/foo/bar/Route[ID > 999] for example)
One problems I think is the size of the XML document. All the data for different pages is pushed to the same XML file and we use maybe 5-10% of the data in any one parse. I have looked at XML filters a little bit but can't seem to find a good example or a clear explanation as to whether or not this will even solve my problem.
The root node has 5 children and the biggest one which takes up probably 3/4 of the document isn't even used by us.
My boss wants it to be as fast as the ASP implementation which was really fast. It is 100% custom and manually probes the XML document and can skip any children which it knows won't contain any leaf's we want (mainly that big one) and is nearly instant.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
JohnHey guys, thanks for the responses and sorry it took so long to get back - I have been busy with school an all.
Well, first off let me say that everything in general seems far slower than what I would expect. I have eliminated different parts and everything I do eliminate seems to make is significantly faster. Does JSP seems relatively slow to you guys? I am serving it from a slower machine too but it just seems quite a bit slower than I would have expected and I don't feel I'll ever be able to match the speed of the ASP implementation.
However, I think there is light at the end of the tunnel. I believe I found the slowest part. Surprisingly, it is not the importing or even the parsing of the file. They seem like they could take at the very most 1/2 second and the whole file takes ~5 seconds to run. The part that is causing the most delay is the five x:set tags.
<x:set var="attrID" select="string($r/ID)"/>is one of them. If I replace them with a piece of servlet code to assign dummy values instead, it cuts the execution by 80-90%.
Any ideas why these may be so slow?
Also, do you think switching to a servlet implementation would be better? I actually use some servlet code that I mean to convert over to tags once I get it working. Shouldn't the tags be about the same speed and are considered the "better" way to do things if possible?
Thanks again,
John -

Please help me find the bottleneck of my T5440 server?Thanks so much for all your help.Moderator Comment and Action:
@ O.P.,
You cross-posted this to at least two other forum web sites:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/solaris-opensolaris-20/application-running-too-slow-on-sun-sparc-t5440-but-run-normal-on-sun-m3000-4175411155/
http://www.unix.com/solaris/189945-application-running-too-slow-sun-sparc-t5440-but-run-normal-sun-m3000.html
... and didn't think that was important enough to simply mention the fact.
Timestamps suggest that OTN was the last place you posted to.
Poor forum etiquette.
Why would anyone spend the time to try to give help that you have already received elsewhere? That's a waste of their time.
(Yes, you already received the suggestion to use Dtrace in one of those other sites.)

Hello,
I am new to Java Web Start. I have created a java web start application and when i enable web start from local Execution, then it works perfectly well. But when i upload it on server and then download the application, then it is too too slow...i mean it takes minutes to get the output on clicking some button....my jnlp file is as under:

I dont understand the reason. Could you please help me out.
Thank you,
Deepika Gohil.Check your web server's access logs to see how many requests web start is sending for each jar. After you've loaded the application the first time, for each subsequent launch, if you've got everything configured right, you should only see requests for the JNLP file and maybe some gifs because web start should load everything else out of the cache (if you're using the version-based download protocol). Or if you're using the basic download protocol, then you might see requests for each jar file, but even in this case, if your web server is prepared to evaluate the last-updated attribute for each jar request and for jars that have not changed, respond with no actual payload and a header value of Not-Modified, then that should run almost as fast.
You might also want to consider changing the "check" attribute of the "update" element from "always" to "background" for a couple of reasons. It should allow your app to start sooner (but this means that you might have to launch once or twice after an update is applied to the web server before the update shows up on the workstation). Also, my impression is that "always" is broken and prevents web start from ever checking to see if your jnlp file has been updated if you launch your app from a web start shortcut - launching from a browser is less likely to have this problem, depending on how often your browser is configured to check for updated resources. -
Please Help! All Sounds in Classic are too slow now!
Something dreadful happened (wish I knew what) and now every sound that is played back by any Classic application is about 70% too slow.
No matter if it is a Classic game like Unreal (I), Deus Ex, AvP for OS9 (the OSX version works fine), or Quicktime 6, or any other given Classic application. The only sounds that appear normal are the Platinum system sounds.
I don't know which files affect Classic sound playback or where they are located. Can't imagine what could cause that particular problem.
Hope someone could help...
Many thanks in advance

PowerMac G5 2x2Sorry, didnt get an email notification, so I just checked the thread.
Starting and quitting Garage Band actually helped!
(Imagine listening to the meaningful dialogues in "Deus Ex" spoken with Sesame Street's Cookie Monster voice. Aaaaannnd reeealllly sllloowwww. Doesn't quite capture the mood...)
Do you have an explanation why Garage Band should affect Classic sound output?
Thanks a lot,

New iMac running 10.10.1 frequently pauses, way too slow
I recently bought a 27 inch iMac, installed Yosemite, and migrated my files by time machine from a 5 year old macbook Pro running Snow Leopard. Since updating to 10.10.1, I frequently get the spinning beachball while I wait to continue, and everything seems much slower than it should. Safari downloads take forever, compared to Firefox. I ran an EtreCheck report pasted below. I tried some easy fixes like removing desktop clutter, reducing transparency, but that doesn't affect the overall slowness. Any solutions welcome!
Problem description:
Installed Yosemite on new iMac, migrating from snow leopard on an older macbook pro. Instead of being fast, processes frequently pause for bit while the beachball spins, then resume. Way too slow, much slower than my old macbook pro.

I just brought a brand new Macbook pro retina display, when i connect it to my apple tv through airplay its too slow and when it try to play a movie apply tv is always a minute or 2 behind. How can i fix this?
Hello HanaAmer1,
We've an article which provides troubleshooting steps that can help get AirPlay workign correctly.
iTunes: Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5209
Cheers,

Out of the blue, no audio playback. Was working just fine earlier today.
I repeatedly get the error message:
Disk is too slow. (Prepare)
(-10001)
NOTE: I have more than enough disc space. That is NOT the issue.
I also just got a second error message:
Part of the Project was not played
This project has too many real instrument tracks to be played in real-time. To optimize performance, see the 'Optimizing GarageBand performance' page in GarageBand Help.
NOTE: Odd as I have only 2 tracks in the GarageBand file.
Any others experience this? Suggestions?Have a look into the Preferences folder (YourUserFolder/Libraries/Preferences/) and trash all Logic preferences.
You'll have to setup the program again.
cheers

Built In application "YouTube" Is Way too slow!
Hey guys, I'm new here btw, so hi to all.
When i watch videos on youtube built in app IT TAKES FOREVER! to buffer the videos, I'm using WI-FI and my net connection is 20mb, I would love to use it but it just takes toooooo long to buffer it would take me 4-5 minute to watch a one minute clip, Any help you'll be my new idol!
The strange this is though, on my computer they load in literally seconds if not instantly are are completely buffered in under 5 seconds for almost any video, yet i could hardly watch a 2 minute youtube video, it buffers then 20 seconds later it stops and it won't supering buffer, i press play nothing happens, it just like it either WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too slow or it stops buffering completely, all i know is with youtube being such a big feature, it is almost useless by the terrible coding, or what ever the problem is to make it soo slow, i hear so much people talking about youtube and there iphone but mine is just too painfully slow to watch(and no 100% not my connection)Is there any youtube settings??? Can any setting be changed which relate to youtube? And is it possible to watch youtube through safari and not through the standard application?
NO, there are no settings. Flash will not play in Safari yet, but there is a workaround using VideoHamster.
Here are a couple of Flash YouTube videos on my server that I converted to QT with CosmoPod. How do they load for you? I have a 1M up cable connection. They should start loading and playing after a few seconds. YouTube videos start playing after about 5 seconds on mine.

NHL Gamecenter Live on ATV2 Freezing
I am able to watch NHL Gamecenter Live on other devices (iPhone, iPad, iMac and XBox) without any problem. But on the ATV2, the picture freezes about every 30 seconds to a minute. This lasts for about 15 seconds then picks up where it had frozen.
