Custom Folder Icons won't display in Cover Flow

When I paste a PNG or PICT or JPG file on the highlighted folder image in the Get Info window, the new icon for the folder will appear everywhere - icon view - list view - column view - except Cover Flow - What gives?

I use a different method to get custom icons on my folders, and they are displaying correctly in Cover Flow. Tried what I presume you are doing: open graphic file in Preview, select Copy, go to GetInfo window of the folder and paste. That folder does not show up in Cover Flow AT ALL, just a blank space. Weird. Definitely a bug.

• Album covers won't display in Cover Flow mode.

I've just recently re-installed my Windows XP, re-installed iTunes, and re-installed all my music again from my back-up discs. My iTunes is working fine ie plays the music, searches, displays iTunes store etc. However, when I click on the Cover View icon when playing an album it states, 'iTunes unable to browse album covers on this computer'. The album covers show up in the list/album view but not in cover view. It didn't do this before. Maybe it's something simple I've missed - any ideas?

Does this article help?

• Yosemite - custom folder icons

I made a set of custom folder icons in OS X many years ago. Those folder icons have stuck with me through many revs of OS X, from 10.4 onward - until Yosemite. Now all of my folders (and shortcuts to them) show a blank, generic icon. This happens both on my Mac Pro and my iMac, both of which now have Yosemite installed.
Where have my customs icons gone? Can I get them back without having to redo the artwork? Can I use my old custom icons in Yosemite?

I don't think there is as the custom icon information is stored as a separate fork, which SMB has no knowledge of.
A couple of possiblities are:
1) Enabling SFM (Microsoft Services for Macintosh) on the windows server. You can have the share mapped via SMB and AFP.
2) On the server use ExtremeZ-IP http://www.grouplogic.com/products/extreme/overview.cfm
3) Maybe on the clients use DAVE http://www.thursby.com/products/dave.html
I would recommend downloading the following Webcast, the first half gives a good overview of Mac's in a Windows environment:

• Custom Folder Icons

Alright, 8330 Curve with Sprint, running 4.5
When I upgraded from 4.2, I wanted to get rid of the Voice Activated Dialing feature, as well as several other carrier-specific features that I didn't want to take up space.....so I went in and removed the associated files, using a tutorial widely available.  I did know when doing this, that I would lose the ability to create custom colored folder icons.  No biggie.
Especially no big deal, when I used the standard Sprint theme, which has some very nice looking folders for IM/Social Networks/Entertainment.
However, I recently changed themes just to the simple BB L theme, and of course, lost all of those icons.  I found a post taken from another page, which gave a tutorial, using BBFileScout to load custom folder icons into the BlackBerry.  However, I have a small problem.  I don't have a subdirectory for "Folders" where it should be - presumably due to the removal of the VAD.
Any suggestions?

• Convert Windows folder.jpg into OS X custom folder icon

Hello everyone,
after months reading numerous post on the Web trying to find a way to convert the Windows "folder.jpg" into an OS X custom folder icon, I've come up with a solution using only the shell. Some users proposed using the Automator, which caused me lots of trouble (Spotlight sometimes wouldn't find the folder, or would return a Privacy error, and so on). Therefore, my solution uses only a Shell script with dependencies on some external libraries (most of them allowing to manipulate images and icons).
Here's the code on Pastebin.
I hope this will be as helpful for you as it was for me. It allowed me to apply the custom folder icons to thousands of folders, including the local Mac folders as well as the one on external storage (USB or LAN).

• Customized Folder icons in the Dock

There is a problem moving custom icons generated in 10.4. As one example, 10.4 Application and Home icons simply cannot be transferred to the 10.5 Dock without being badly distorted. They work properly but look terrible. The same thing happens with the custom icons that worked fine in 10.4 but do not appear properly in the Dock. I suspect there is a bug here that needs squashing

I don't think it is your custom icons that are the problem, anyway mine are all fine. If I make an alias of a folder with a custom icon and drag it to the Dock, the custom icon displays just as it always did. If I drag a file with custom icon the custom icon is fine. I suspect your problem is that you don't appreciate the full horror of the new Stacks behavior: if you drag a folder to the Dock Stacks does NOT, by design, display the icon of the folder. Instead it displays the icon of the first item that is IN the folder, plus some nonsense meant to represent the items behind the first item. Think this is insane? So does everyone else (with the possible exception of whoever came up with the idea of doing it this way). Send feedback to Apple:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html/
And do a search on the topic "Stacks" for various kludgy work arounds.

• IPod with folder icon, won't reset

I bought my third iPod at the end of summer, an iPod photo 60 GB. It has worked perfect until 2 days ago, when it suddenly froze. I rebooted it, but the display showed a sad iPod. Checked the support files and tried to put it into Disk mode, but it didn't work, so I just left it in the charger overnight, which, surprisingly enough, managed to solve the problem for a while. When I woke up, the iPod was OK.
So I took it out for another day of adventures. At first it skipped all of the songs from an album that I had recently transferred to my iPod, but it played older songs. But after maybe 20 minutes, it froze again. Another reboot and another sad iPod icon. This time, however, I managed to put it into Disk Mode, and restored it to factory settings. It didn't restart itself after the restoration (waited for an hour or so), so I manually removed it from my desktop and unplugged it. On the screen there is a folder icon with an exclamation point. Replugged it, and it appears on my desktop and in iTunes, and starts filling up with songs. When it's finally done I remove the iPod from my computer. Once again I see the folder icon.
Each time I connect the iPod to my iBook it's on my desktop and in iTunes. The software can't be out-of-date because there hasn't been an update since I bought it.
Restoring it to factory settings shouldn't have harmed the iPod - or should it?
It's charged, it's filled with music, at least according to iTunes. It's just that STUPID folder icon that I can't get my head around. Why is it there and what can I do to get rid of it?

Well, here are the two pages that might be useful to you:
iPod does not appear in iTunes or on the desktop, an exclamation point or sad iPod icon appears onscreen
iPod shows a folder icon with exclamation point when you turn it on
Those give some possible ways to deal with the Sad iPod/Folder problems. The first step in the Sad iPod steps involved putting it in disk mode:
Putting iPod into Disk Mode
If you can get it into disk mode, you may be able to get your music off. I hope so. But I also hope that if you do, you make sure to have a backup of all your music; since Apple only allows one download, it should be protected as any other investment would be.

• Blurry custom folder icons

I've put custom photo icons on hundreds of folders (using jpegs). Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, most of them have become blurry/pixelated. How do I fix them?
Also, when I try creating new custom icons, they don't show up right away, and when they do (usually hours later), they, too, are pixelated.

Have look at this link:

• Finder slow to show items in column, icon views (OK in list, cover flow)

I'm seeing new perplexing slow behavior on our three-month old iMac running 10.5.5: when in column view and selecting (or in icon view and double-clicking) a folder, there is an initial five-second lag before items will appear in the next column or window; meanwhile, the bottom of the window will only show the space available until items appear and only then will it list the number of items along with space available. It's enough to make you wonder if there actually is anything in the folder while you wait. I say "initial" lag because on subsequent selection, the listing is instantaneous. However, if you log out and in again, it's back to the delay while waiting for initial listings. None of this behavior happens in list or cover flow views, but column view is my routine, so I'd like to make it snappier.
I've gone through some basic troubleshooting steps (repairing permissions, checking Console and Activity Monitor) to no avail. I haven't run into this behavior on my 2-yr. old MBP, so I'm not sure what to look for. Any thoughts?

Get a utility such as TinkerTool System, Onyx, etc. that has a feature to remove all .DS_Store files. If they get corrupted this could cause the problem you describe. I would also consider disabling the View preference to Show Icon Preview. Use the Show View Options in the Finder's View menu. With Leopard you may need to do this for each new Finder window you open (press COMMAND-J to open the preference dialog for the active window.) Do the same for the Desktop. Show Icon Preview can slow down the content display in the Finder initially. Once the information is cached it displays much quicker. Hence the observation that you described.
It also may not hurt to delete the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist file in case there's problem with it. Then relaunch the Finder - open the task manager (COMMAND-OPTION-ESC,) select the Finder task and click on the Relaunch button.

• Jpeg Icons Instead of Images in Cover Flow

First time poster, not sure if this is the right place. Anyway...
For the past few days, when I'm opening folders of images, in Cover Flow mode, instead of seeing the images, all I see is the jpeg icon.
Q1: Did I do something to cause the change?
Q2: How do I restore it?
Thank you, in advance, for any advice!
Don

Welcome to Apple forums, Don.
Q1 No, I doubt yopu did anything.
Q2 Go to Users/yourname/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
Let us know if that helps.

• Folder or File "Ghost" remains in Cover Flow once Deleted

Has this happened to anyone else?
This happens when deleting Files or Folders with the Cover Flow view.
Side Note: This of course goes away once you click on another area of Finder,
like say going from Documents to Downloads then back to Documents.
This is just an annoyance but was wondering :-)

Yeah this is annoying... Yet another flaw in Mavericks. You have to refresh the view by switching to the list view or something else, THEN IT UPDATES the file listing.
Oh yeah and how about fixing the file tag colors so they HIGHLIGHT across the entire row as opposed to just a DOT?!
It boggles the mind how this Mavericks got out the door with all the problems it has... No way Jobs would stand for this garbage!

• Desktop icons won't display on Desktop

I recently installed a couple of what seemed to be interesting menubar items (MenuStrip and Isolator). Shortly after (not concurrent with) I lost the icons that show up on the Desktop of files in the Desktop folder. The files are all intact - nothing lost, they just don't show up on the Desktop.
I've removed these two applications using AppZapper, run the new DiskWarrior 4.1.1, repaired the permissions, run repair disk from Disk Utility, reinstalled Leopard from the DVD, and now I'm at a loss on how to bring back those icons.
I'm running OS X 10.5.5 on an Intel Mac Mini. I use a Newer MiniStack as my boot drive. If I boot from the internal drive (which is virtually virgin from the day of purchase), the Desktop icons from that user are displayed as they should be.
Is there someway to "rebuild" the Desktop or otherwise bring things back to normal?
Thanks in advance,
-Tod

Added info:
I also recently tried using Path Finder 5. It also has been "shredded."
I was just poking around my Desktop and found that clicking on the Desktop itself while another app (say like Safari) is frontmost, clicking won't bring the Finder to the front. Sounds like something left over from Path Finder, though I deleted all its prefs using AppZapper.

• Customer registration form won't display in testing environment.

Hi everyone,
I am using DWCS3 with the free version of MAMP.
I have put a customer registration form together and have just started to add the php $mailSent code.
In design view everything seems to be o.k the three gold shields are displayed at the top of my page.
However when I try to view the page in my local testing environment, the page doesn't display at all I just get a white screen. I was also getting an error message suggesting my site url's weren't mapped properly, or, my server wasn't serving pages with a .php extension.
I checked my datetest page and that is displaying today's date, I also checked my phpinfo page and that is also displaying.
I also checked that my site url's are mapped properly, I would say they are because my other site pages e.g. index page, links page, about page ect are opening up in my testing browser.
I have added my code for anyone to take a look at;
the 1st block of code I added at the top of the document before the <!DOCTYPE> (suggested in The Essential Guide to Dreamweaver CS3)
the 2nd block of code is added just after the page's main heading.
the 3rd line of code is added to the form action in the opening form tag.
Could someone please help, as I am stumped.
Thankyou.

• Temporary Fix for custom folder icons now working in dock...

First of all, this is kinda simplistic and you will NOT be able to use stacks with it. When you click these icons, the folder will open in finder immediately. All you have to do is create an alias to the folder you want and then drag the ALIAS to the dock. Works perfectly for me.

sorry, title should be not working in dock.

• 9iDS forms 9i gif icons won't display

I have been on metalink and have yet to get a ggod answer on how to make my gif icons appear on my forms in 9iDS Forms 9i. I am on adevelopment machine and have modified my %ORACLE_HOME%\forms90\j2ee\orion-web.xml by addidng the folling lines:
<virtual-directory virtual-path="/webicons"
real-path="d:\webicons" />
Then I modified %ORACLE_HOME%\forms90\java\forms\registry\registry.dat file to read:
default.icons.iconpath=/webicons/
default.icons.iconextension=gif
and I've tried
default.icons.iconpath=/webicons
default.icons.iconextension=gif
and I've tried
default.icons.iconpath=webicons/
default.icons.iconextension=gif
My %ORACLE_HOME%\forms90\server\formsweb.cfg reads:
imageBase=DocumentBase
I was told to remove imageBase=DocumentBase from %ORACLE_HOME%\forms90\server\basejini.htm but I only found:
<PARAM NAME="imageBase" VALUE="%imageBase%">
imageBase="%imageBase%"
in that file. But, even commenting on or the other or both did not yield positive results.
After each modification to the above files I made sure that I closed the browser and stopped and re-started the OC4J Instance before opening the browser.
Once again, I am doing this on a development computer with all files on that computer and I am NOT deploying any of this to 9iAS.
What is wrong?
TIA,
Ed.

Ed,
You're right, there's no reason that you must use the jar file method. For testing, it makes sense to use your images "as is".
I think I see the problem with your config. You should always do this test to to verify that you can see your icons before running your Form: look at your icon in a browser.
You said that you modified %ORACLE_HOME%\forms90\j2ee\orion-web.xml and created the following virtual path:
      <virtual-directory virtual-path="/webicons" real-path="d:\webicons" />Restart your OC4J listener, and see if you can see the icon in your browser:
      http://host:port/forms90/webicons/someicon.gif
I bet you can. That's because you edited the orion-web.xml for Forms, which affects everything under the /forms90/ path. That is, host:port/forms90/ is the document root to that orion-web.xml. This is perfectly ok, but in your registry.dat, you need to put in the full thing:
      default.icons.iconpath=/forms90/webiconsIf you want to do it the "normal" way, modify the following:
%ORACLE_HOME%\j2ee\Oracle9iDS\application-deployments\default\defaultWebApp\orion-web.xml
This is the xml file for the base web listener. Now you can see the icon in your browser:
      http://host:port/webicons/someicon.gif
which will let you use the following in your Registry.dat file:
      default.icons.iconpath=/webiconsSee, I told you that you were close!
