Custom mailbox columns in Mail?

I'm using Mail 3.5 on 10.5.6.
I've been trying set up Mail to display different columns in different mailboxes in ON MY MAC section in the left hand nav panel. Example: I'd like to show Received date in one mailbox without showing Sent date, and vice versa in another mailbox (ie show only Sent column but not Received column).
Unfortunately, every time I set either of the above, the other mailbox also shows the change. I want the 2 mailboxes to have different columns.
Is this possible? If so, how?
Many thanks in advance for any help offered. Thank you.

I have this EXACT same problem. I was trying to figure it out today. It's like Mail needs a "save" function when you set the columns. Did you ever figure it out? What's weird is that I have another computer, same OS, same version of Mail, and I can set the columns.
Thanks.

  • Why don't VIP names show up in the Mailboxes column on Mail for Yosemite?

    I added a couple of new colleagues to my VIP list in mail yesterday after installing Yosemite. The colleagues were added to the VIP list, but their names are not displayed in the Mailboxes column. Everything about the VIP functionality works -- the messages I expect to find when clicking on the un-named stars in the list are the right messages. Only the name label is missing:
    I've tried the obvious things: quitting and relaunching Mail, logging out/logging back in, restarting my MacBook.
    This is an Office365 Exchange email account.
    Anyone else see this problem or have suggestions for how to get the names attached to the stars in the VIP mailbox list?

  • Mail 5: Change font size in Mailboxes column?

    Pretty happy with Mail 5 so far (one day in).
    Is there any way to change the font size for the left Mailboxes column? It's larger than the other two, and larger than I prefer.

    Also in the new layout which personally I think is dreadful and thank god I can still use classic, the display unread messages in bold option does not work as all messages are shwon in bold whether they have been read or not. This only works in Classic mode.

  • HT2500 how to alphabetize mailboxes (mail folders) in left column of Mail application

    Does anyone know how to how to alphabetize mailboxes (mail folders) in left column of Mail application? It should be easy, but I can't find a way.
    Thanks.

    Hi sanjampet, that didn't work for me.  I disabled my five email accounts, which made the emails dissappear, all mail folders were still visible, I closed the program.  I reopened the program, re-enabled the email accounts, and all the same folders were all still visible - not in alphabetical order, so frustrating.  One would think apple would have a simple button that could be clicked to put mail box folders into order?  Drag and drop is too difficult for me too due to the number of mailboxes.  Any other thoughts?

  • Mailbox icon size under Mailboxes column

    Hi,
    I LOVE Lion!  Here's a "dumn" question.  In "MAIL" - I seem to prefer the "Classic" layout, so in the Preferences of MAIL under 'viewing' - that's what I've chosen.  Good!
    But in the Mailbox column, the folders and icons just seem a bit large or spaced to far apart?  Jut asking . . . any way to set their size to be smaller?  I've looked, but can't seem to find where you can do that.  If you can?
    No big deal . . . but frequently with Apple, you can adjust relative sizes of diferent things!
    Thansk,

    OMG!!!  How did I miss THAT!   Duhhh!!. . . . .
    Thanks very very much.  You gotta love these chat boards!

  • "On My Mac" and AOL server are in mailbox column -- where is real email?

    am trying to help my father get transferred off AOL (but he is keeping his AOL email address, and is going to access it using Mac Mail). We ran the AOL Service Assistant, and got his mail and address book transferred from AOL. However, I don't understand how it has set up his mail. One problem is I use 10.4.10, but he uses 10.3, and I am helping him remotely, and I don't entirely remember what the 10.3 Mail looks like.
    In the mailbox column, it has In, Out, Draft and Sent, all of which I understand. Under that it says On May Mac, and inside that there is a folder named with his AOL account. And under that (at the same level as On My Mac) there is a server labeled with his AOL account. My question is, what is the difference between the mail in these three areas? Is the folder inside the On My Mac the same as the folders at the top level (In, Out, Drafts, Sent)? Is the email under the AOL server icon simply the email that is still on the server?
    When he cancels AOL, will he still be able to leave email on the server, or should he set it to delete as soon as he downloads it?
    And, a possibly related question -- we also did another person's email this way, who has a lot more email, and for some reason many of the messages in the In box seem to only have a header -- there is no body to the message. How do we get it to transfer everything?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello,
    If has more than one account, the Inbox icon, for example, should have a black triangle if the accounts have been correctly added via the assistant. If that triangle is pointing sideways, then he clicks on it, it should turn downward, and reveal the Inbox for each account. If he does not have but the one account, then the Inbox should be that of the AOL account. Same with Sent Drafts, etc.
    If the triangle beside Inbox reveals other folders such as Sent Items, click to open that, and then click Mailbox in the menubar, place cursor on Use this Mailbox for and choose Sent.
    AOL is IMAP access, so can be tricky. The folders under AOL lower in the Sidebar are for other archiving. AOL only allows messages to stay in the Inbox and Sent folder for 27 days, and then you must Move the messages to the Saved folder to keep longer on the server. Of course, various On My Mac mailboxes can be created to save messages, and those will be on the hard drive of his Mac.
    In Mail 2.x and OS 10.4.10 there is no longer a separator for On My Mac in the Sidebar, but is with 10.3.x and Mail 1.3.x
    This may or may not be such a good idea to have switched him without being in front of his computer to provide some instruction

  • How do I add a new mailbox to a mail account on iphone?

    How do I add a new mailbox to a mail account on iphone?

    One thing that might help out.
    To add a folder or a mailbox to your existing account, you need to add it on your computer.
    Now, this will work and reflect to the iphone if you are using an imap or exchange account.
    If you are using a pop account, you will not be able to add a folder to an account on the iphone.
    Hope this helps.

  • Tab between custom meta columns in the project panel

    If you've got a custom meta column in the project panel and you use are editing the previous column and then use the keyboard tab key to move to the next column (the custom meta field), that column is selected but not you can't edit it with out clicking in it with the mouse. This is not the case with built in meta columns such as the "comment" field.
    Does anyone know of any way to tab into a custom meta field and then have a further keyboard shortcut that puts the field into edit mode?

    Ok, found the answer already. Tab and then tab a second time.
    Obviously this seems wrong and would be better if the first tab allowed you to edit immediately.
    UPDATE: Spoke too soon. This is definitely a buggy mess. Sometime tabbing into a custom field makes it editable immediately. Other times, a second tab makes the field editable, sometime the second tab just moves you to the next field. And there seems to be no pattern, I can tab and shift-tab back and forth between custom fields and the behave seems to change at random. I'll log it as another custom meta bug!

  • F2 key not working with custom JTable Column

    I have a custom JTable Column (which is a JPanel with a JTextfield and JButton). Everything works as expected, except when the user presses "F2" to start editing the custom column cell. When the user presses F2, the custom cell goes into editing mode, but I am unable to type anything in it.
    Below is the SSCCE.
    Steps to Reproduce problem:
    1) Run the Program
    2) Select any cell in first Column.
    3) Press "F2" and try to type into the cell. Can't type anything.

    The F2 key when pressed generates an action event (either JTable generates it or some other component). I am not sure how to handle the action event in the isCellEditable() method. Also, F(X) range of keys other than F2 dump some junk character in the JTextfield when pressed. I am now stuck at this point and don't know how handle F(X) range of keys.

  • Wanted to know how to make new mailboxes in e mail.

    Wanted to know how to make new mailbox in e mail.

    If you are on iOS 5+ and it's an IMAP type account then you should get an Edit button at the top of the list of folders that you currently have on your email account. If it's a POP type account then you won't get the Edit button, and you are limited to the folders that you currently have.

  • How to change colour of mailbox containing new mail

    I have Thunderbird sort my incoming mail into various mailboxes based on various criteria.
    Until recently, when new mail arrived in any box, the title of that box (in the list, left hand pane) turned red - thus making it easy for me to identify which boxes needed my attention. For some reason this has stopped. The incremental number showing the number of unread messages still changes, but the title colour remains black.
    Anyone know how to change the behaviour to highlight mailboxes containing new mail please?
    Thanks..

    My point is that until recently the behaviour was automatic - it changed the colour of box names as amatter of course. This has now changed, wth all box names being in black whether or not there is new mail in the box.
    I receive a lot of mail and being able to quickly distinguish which box had received new mail would make life easier..
    I suspect there is a setting within Thunderbird to enable this but I'm damned if I can find it..

  • Custom JTable column (JCheckBox) not included in row selection.

    I am trying to use JCheckBox (for display only data) as one of my JTable columns. I have written custom cell renderer for the same. Every thing is working fine except that when I select a row, the new custom JCheckBox column is not included in selection. Here is the code that I am using.
        protected class CheckBoxColumnRenderer extends DefaultTableCellRenderer {
            JCheckBox ckb = new JCheckBox();
            public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table, Object value,
                        boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int column) {
                if (value instanceof Boolean) { // Boolean
                  ckb.setSelected(((Boolean) value));
                  ckb.setHorizontalAlignment(JLabel.CENTER);
                  ckb.setBackground(super.getBackground());
                  if (isSelected || hasFocus) {
                      ckb.setBackground(table.getSelectionBackground());
                return ckb;
        }How can I include the custom cell in the row selection.

    they have lots of dependencies and it is not always easy to strip out an SSCCE without a considerable effort.Exactly. And is the cause of the problem the dependencies or something else. The only way to know for sure is to strip out the code and simplify the problem, that way you truly understand what the problem is.
    The majority of time this can be done with minimal effort as in this case.
    Some times we are sure that the problem is with certain part of the code Is the problem the code or the way the code is invoked? How do we know the TableModel is created properly or that the column class is overwritten correctly when we can't see it?
    someone having a third look at it may actually find the enhancement required with ease.Exactly, but we need to see the big picture.
    So are you sure that I should post an SSCCE with every possible question where coding is involved ?In the majority of cases a SSCCE is easily created in 5-10 minutes, so if you want the fastest help then yes.
    Just twice this past week I was ready to ask a question on the forum and was preparing a SSCCE to post and sure enough both times the creation of the SSCCE caused me to look at the problem differently and I solved it. I would much rather solve a problem on my own then post a question and wait for hours (days) hoping someone else knows the answer.

  • Can't import my mailboxes from Tiger Mail into Leopard

    Hi everyone,
    I bought a new MBP and I'm now in the process of carefully importing my mailboxes from Tiger mail, on my Tiger backup HD, to the new mail program. I have about 20000 messages saved since 1999, sorted by project etc. Each time I select a batch of mailboxes to import, I get a failure message when it's almost done, saying that some messages couldn't be imported. This is very frustrating: my e-mail archive is possible the most important collection of files on the computer. I would hate for it to become messed up/corrupted.
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    Alex

    Try copying the directory ~/Library/Mail/ (the library folder in your home directory) from your old computer to the same location on your Leopard install. I believe the versions of Mail in Tiger and Leopard use the same directory structure, so this should work.
