Custom Page Numbering

I would like the automatic page numbers to be at least two digits. For example, page numbers 1-9 should show as 01, 02, 03...etc. Is there a way to automatically do this?
Thank you,
Kevin

My own trick to do this was adding "0000" in front of the page number code on the master page. Then paste a white rectangle over the digits I didn't want ...
(I was pretty pleased with this trick, but then the client commented "Nah, actually that's not what I want. Please use regular page numbering.")

  • How to preserve custom page numbers when combining PDF's?

When combining multiple PDF's into one, the custom page numbers are lost.
Example: As four separate files (one page each), the pages are numbered as follows:  AC-77, AC-78, AC-79, AC-80.  When combining them into a single PDF, the page numbers become 1, 2, 3, 4.
How can I preserve the original page numbers?

What is ' custom page numbers' ? How did you create the page numbers?

  • Is there a way to create custom page numbering (ie 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, etc.)?

I have a document that needs special treatment for its page numbering. This is a two page spread that I need to have the same page number on facing pages. The page numbering would look like 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4 and so on. I have looked through the forums and all the help documentation I can find, and the only thing remotely related is doing a print merge of two documents - but this doesn't solve my need to have the numbering scenario in the actual document. Is there a way to create a macro or script that I can add to the master pages that can calculate the correct page number? This is an Instructor's Guide that is well over 300 pages so I'm looking for some way to automate the process.

Just if I understood your need correctly... Automatic Page Number shows the number of the page, where center of its text frame lies. The actual number may be on other page. Please see attached screenshots:

  • Acrobat custom page numbers (box around page numbers)

        Hi,
I need to add page numbers to multiple documents and I need each page number to have a border box around it.  This is for an appendix I am putting together.  Is there an easy way to do this so that all pages are numbered sequentially with an alpha prefix (i.e. A1, A2, etc.) and so that each "A" number has a black box around it.  IF there is a more complicated way using java script or similar could someone be so friendly as to provide the basic script and explain how to apply it in Acrobat.  Then I can adjust attributes of the script unti it looks right.  I am using Acrobat Pro 9.
Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated!!!

The header/footer command only support text numbers so if you would like to include a graphic then you can use the Background command in conjunction with the Header/Footer command. You can create a background border box in another file that is placed around the page numbers using the Background command.

  • Customer Statement - Page Numbers

Has anyone been able to solve the page numbering problem on the statement report?
For example: If you have page numbers visible, the report runs each page 1,2,3,4 etc, where we need to have 1st customer page 1, 2nd customer page 1 and page 2, 3rd customer page 1 etc.

    Hi,
In version 2005 there is no solution for this and unfortunately there is no workaround either as I know.

  • Customer statement PLD page numbers

    Experts,
I have a client who have a valid question on the page numbers on the Customer Statement Report (One page per customer) when this is run for multiple customers.
Is there a way for this to print the page numbers at the bottom starting with 1 for each customer. This numbering sequence just keeps on and this is confusing to their clients when they receive a statement starting with a page other than 1.
    Thanks for your help,
    Marli

    Hi Jacques,
Unfortunately you can't do this in the current versions of PLD. I had the same problem with the statement layout, raised it with SAP and they confirmed that it couldn't be done.
Hopefully it will appear soon (I haven't checked the 2007 preview version yet for this).
    Kind Regards,

  • Page numbers not working in pages

    Help!
I'm working on a document that will be 100+ pages, printing it double sided to be bound together. I would like to have the pages numbers listed in the footer on the outside of the page as well as some text in the center of the footer. Working with Pages '09 version 4.1.
I have "facing pages" selected. "Left and Right pages different" selected. "Use previous headers and footers" selected. I selected "Insert Auto page numbers" and told it to put them on the outside.
The problem - only some pages have the numbers on the outside like I selected. Pages 1-12 have the page numbers are all left justified. Pages 13-16 are correct. Pages 17-23 have the page numbers are all left justified. So on and so forth. There is no rhyme or reason why some of these are different. I do have different sections in the document - but sometimes it's in the middle of the section that it decides to change the formatting on me.
On top of that, I added the text I wanted in the center. On some pages it's there, others it isn't. And again, no rhyme or reason as to why. Sometimes, the page numbers ARE in the correct place, but the text IS NOT there. Sometimes the page numbers ARE NOT in the correct place, and the text IS there. Leaving me with very few pages that are 100% correct.
The only thing I have going for me at the moment is that every page has a page number on it! I suppose that's something. And I believe I know how to go in and change the footers individually. But, like I said, this will be 100+ pages, I'd really like to just do it once, not individually for each page.
    Help please! Thanks!

    Hello black94,
Ok I can load the WinForm project and know part of your game, although I'm not so sure how to play the game. I cannot understand your language.
When I checked the WPF project it seems you build the UI with WPF and only write events here, I haven't find binding related xaml code. Anyway, can you quote the problem or code about how you insert the white cell in WPF?

So the following place is where the error raised?
    PrintDocument printdocument = new PrintDocument();

  • Page numbers not appearing in PDF output past a certain point

Hi.  I have a very large book layout in Aperture (> 300 pages) which I output to a PDF file (using the Print button followed by selecting PDF).  I have successfully done this many times in the past, but there have occasionally been times when Aperture's output just stops including page numbers past a certain point.  I think what it's doing is deciding on white page numbers for the rest of the book, which doesn't work so well when the background is white.  (I can see this because there are occasional pages which are full bleed, and the page numbers appear in white on those pages).
Has anyone else come across this?  I have seen this problem for years (Aperture 1, Aperture 2).  The solution seems to be to carefully modify the page layout so that no elements impinge on the location of the page number.  But doing this does not always solve the problem.  Just this morning I duplicated a page, changed its content, then output and... the page numbers just stopped in the output 30 pages *after* this page.  I just changed the page to move a text element up, hoping that this would solve the problem, and now... page numbers stop at page 263 instead of page 98.
This is a very bizarre and annoying bug.  Extremely annoying.  I am not going to print a book which has page numbers in only the first half or 3/4 of the book.  But if there is no workaround, and Apple seems not to have noticed the problem, I could be stuck.
Has anyone else seen this?  Any suggestions?  How can I report the bug to Apple?  I can't very well give them the output as an example, as it's about 800 MB.

Hi leonieDF.  Thanks for your reply!  I didn't know about the "Provide Aperture Feedback" link.
Alas the Theme is a custom one, it's 9"x11.5" so that the result is 8.5x11" after chopping off 1/4" from all sides.  (The printer does "full bleed" with 1/4" margins).  I originally created it by hand for Aperture 1.5, by simply copying one of the themes and adjusting the dimensions.  (Custom themes weren't possible until Aperture 2, if I remember correctly).  Perhaps that's the source of the issue.  Though I'm not sure how...

  • Page numbers incorrect after conversion from Excel to pdf

Page numbers incorrect after conversion from Excel to pdf
""This above link (thread:834599) is from a case back in 2011 that claims to solve this problem, but it does not solve this problem. I think that customer only cared about having continuous page numbering, not discrete page numbering per sheet.
    ========================
I still have this issue in Acrobat XI and MS Office Professional Plus 2010. I keep upgrading to no avail. This regression has resulted in a huge time drain for me. If you fixed it, please explain how I can get my hands on the resolution.
Previous versions of Excel and Adobe Acrobat enabled flexibility around the "Page #" of "Number of Pages" (Page &[Page] of &[Pages]) token, depending on context and usage. The "# of pages" token could represent EITHER the number of pages in the workbook OR the number of pages in the tab/sheet, depending on how you generated the PDF:
You could select "Selected Sheets" and then select all or some of the individual sheets in the workbook, and the PDF would honor the discrete numbering of each of the sheets, so the first page of each sheet was p1 and the "# of pages" was the number of pages in the sheet; not the number of pages in the workbook; or
You could select "Entire Workbook" and the PDF would honor continuous page numbers across all sheets, as a single document.
Now, it only honors the total number of pages in the workbook, regardless of the method you use to publish to PDF: saving as PDF, printing to PDF, using "createPDF" from Acrobat plugin to Excel's menu ribbon; selecting all sheets, some sheets, or Entire Workbook; automatic First page number or "1" under Page Setup > Page> First page number. (This last option, btw, does restart every sheet at p1, but it hardly makes sense if the total number of pages is still the total number in the workbook instead of the number in the sheet.)
I spent a lot of time trying each which way that the blog posts recommended and have tried this on multiple versions of Excel and Acrobat now.
NONE of these time-consuming experiments gave me what I wanted. They all insist that "Page #" of "Number of Pages" (Page &[Page] of &[Pages]) is the total number of pages in the workbook or the total number of pages in the selected sheets combined.
The numbering are correct in Excel Page Layout.
The same issue happens when using LibreOffice calc. (Although, I never tested with Libre Office before, so I don't know that it ever worked).
The workaround now is to create PDF for each spreadsheet one at a time, and then compile them using the Acrobat combine/binder feature. All alternatives are extremely time consuming and tedious. It used to be automatic. This is a major regression that has gone untreated for over a year now, maybe two years.
My task takes infinitely more time to complete than it did with previous versions of Acrobat. That means that days are added to my project, when the functionality used to enable a quick pdf generation that was ready for review, now I have to do this very manual time-consuming set of steps to generate a draft. As the project has grown and more tabs are added, my pdf-generation task takes that much longer. We require lots of drafts. It used to be easy and fast. Now it is hard and time-consuming.
In my opinion, the problem is not Excel; it is Acrobat because it was introduced with an upgrade in Acrobat, not an upgrade in Excel. The problem was introduced in Acrobat 9 or 10. Please provide a patch or add-on or something.

If you are setting up the page numbers in Excel, the resulting PDF would display the the page numbers created in Excel. On Excel 2010 support page, (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/insert-and-remove-page-numbers-on-worksheets- HA010342619.aspx#BM2) is stated the following "tip" which indicates by default Excel 2010 starts numbering each tab with 1. Exel's workaround tip is below -
Set a different number for the starting page
Tip   To number all of the worksheet pages in a workbook sequentially, first add page numbers to all worksheets in a workbook, and then use the following procedure to begin the page number for each worksheet with the appropriate number. For example, if your workbook contains two worksheets that with both be printed as two pages, you would use this procedure to begin the page numbering for the second worksheet with the number 3.
On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click the Dialog Box Launcher next to Page Setup.
On the Page tab, in the First page number box, type the number that you want to use for the first page.
Tip   To use the default numbering system, type Auto in the First page number box.
Also helpful in the same section is the note on viewing page numbers. To see if the page numbering dilemma originates in Excel make sure you are using the Page Layout View see below:
    Hide All
If you want numbers shown on pages when you print a worksheet  you can insert page numbers in the headers or footers of the worksheet pages. Page numbers that you insert are not displayed on the worksheet in Normal view — they are shown only in Page Layout view and on the printed pages.
Overall it may be easier not to create the page numbers in Excel but instead create then in Acrobat using the Headers and Footers option in Acrobat.  I hope this helps - it sounds like a frustrating issue you are experiencing.

  • Page numbers wrong in PDF - original Quark file ok!

We do magazines mainly and have a Homes and Interiors publication which I have produced for over 7 years. The workflow has changed over the years and is now a PDF one as you'd expect. We output from Quark 7.31 to a postscript file then distill using our custom job option file as provided by the printers we use. Then the files are uploaded to the Agfa Delano system for them to process.
I just had a call from them to say some of the page numbers were wrong so they removed them. The page numbers are inserted using the auto numbering in QuarkXpress and the original file is correct.
The odd thing here is it's not that pages are mixed up - it's just the page numbers that are wrong - the content of each page is correct!! The only change we have done recently is go to Acrobat 9 which obviously uses the new Distiller too - but I am still using my Acrobat 7 printer option when I go to the Print dialogue within Quark. The magazine is 128 pages if that has any bearing and the pages with wrong numbers on them are in sequence (92-111).
Has anyone seen this kind of thing before or are there any known issues with Distiller 9 that could cause this?

Why don't you export the pdf from Quark using the latest pdf printer available?

  • Page Numbering for the aging report

    Hi,
Does any one know how I can achieve the following:
For the customer ageing report we need to print all customer statements at once. On our print layout we currently use the following CurrentPage()/TotalPages() formula fields to dispaly the page number. The result we get is 1/10, 2/10, 3/10....etc.
We actually need the following, for total 10 pages statement would like to display the page number as follows:
    Customer A: 1/1
    Customer B: 1/3, 2/3, 3/3
    Customer C: 1/1
    Customer D: 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4/5, 5/5
Does anyone know how to achieve the above for continuous print?
Your assistance in this matter is highly appreciated.
    BR,
    Jimmy

    Hi,
You are trying to print the detailed aging report. Right?
It seems that there is no way of "splitting" the page numbers within a collection report.
The system could not count the pages for EACH customer. The total number per pages will be per whole document, and cannot be per business partner within the same document when using the formula currentpage().

  • Thumbnail Page Numbering in Acrobat 6.0

    Hi All
I have Acrobat Professional 6.06 patched on a win XP Pro SP2, core 2duo, 3gb ram, Dell optiplex.
When i insert extra pdf pages to a chapter of a pdf document the pages are knocked on in thumbnail view, if i delete the pages i inserted then all the chaptering is removed totally ruining the document. If the document is printed it reads okay with the numbering but in thumbnail view it is ruined and we need these thumbnail page numbering to be there for a customer.
    This is our procedure:
Highlight all pages to be numbered
Right click and select Number pages
    Ie. Numbering begin new section
    Prefix Chap 1 Page
    Start 1
    OK
On the final page of the chapter repeat above but:
    Chap 1 Page 9/
    Start 10
    OK
All subsequent chapters are numbered accordingly.
I now want to add some pages to Chapter 1 because of an amendment. Page 9/10 will become 9 and pages 10 to 13/14 will be added.
I insert 5 blank pages at the end of the chapter, then drop the amended pages on to the blank pages and renumber the thumbnails.
Any subsequent chapters and their thumbnail page numbering should not be affected. -- this does not happen the pages are knocked on
If I delete any page or extract and delete then all thumbnail page numbering disappears. --- This does not happen all chaptering dissappears and normal page numbering is in place.
Any hekp or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I've never heard of the problem. But what I'd do is to figure out which of the source PDFs is causing the problem. Try recreating the combined PDF file by removing one page/section at a time to try to isolate it. It could be that that source PDF needs to be recreated.

  • How to do this Page Numbering

    Hi,
I am developing a report of customer wise sales analysis report, in this report we can generate range of customer, every customer have more than one page.
In this report I want to display page no in customer wise, ie; each customer wise I want to re-initialize page no.
Please give me a solution to solve this.
    Ex.
    Page 1/ 2
    A0001
    Page 2/ 2
    A0001
    Page 1/3
    C0001
    Page 2/3
    C0001
    Page 3/3
    C0001
    Thanks,
    Jen.

    Hi,
1- In the paper layout view of your report click the Edit Margin button in the toolbar
2- Create a field object for the customer wise
3- In the property inspector of the field set the source property to page number, set the visible property to no and the horizontal elasticity to variable.
4- In the page numbering property under field, double click the page numbering property.
5- In the page numbering dialogue box choose reset at your customer group, so that the page number will reset at the beginning of each new customer.
Repeat the five steps for the total number of report pages and put reset at to report.
Create a boilerplate text object in your margin area and reference the two created fields.

  • Keep unique page numbering when combining PDFs

I have a series of PDFs that I am combining for a project, but I need to keep the unique page numbering found in each file. Each PDF is a volume in a set and has page numbering like "v1 100" for page 100 of volume one. There are also seperate page numbering styles for unnumbered pages that have images. This is done so that each page has a unique page number in acrobat that matches the number on the image of a page.
However when I combine PDFs it throws out all of the page numbering and goes back to 1, 2 ,3, etc. If I open the first PDF and insert the second at the end it just sets the whole second volume to have the page numbering schema for the last page of volume one.
Does anyone know of a solution for this problem? I don't want to go through 1000+ pages of renumberingagain.

    Hi Sunder,
