Custom pagemarks (.mrk files) crash Acrobat X?

We have some custom .mrk files (installed in /Library/Application Support/Adobe/PrintSpt) for setting custom pagemarks on print proofs.
Generally speaking, we use them in InDesign.
Tonight, I tried using them in Acrobat X Pro (10.1.0) under Mac OS X 10.6.8, and they crash Acrobat.
I tried the sample pagemark files from Real World InDesign, http://blatner.com/rwid/mrk.zip, and they crash Acrobat as well.
Does anyone have an experience with custom pagemarks in Acrobat? Are they supposed to work? Or am I just fooling myself?
Curiously, or so it seems to me, the crash is not in the AdobeAGM librayr, but rather in the main Acrobat framework:

My next step is to try extracting the built-in .mrk files and seeing how they differ from mine, but I thought it would be good to ask first before I went ahead and did that.
Thanks!
(The purpose of our custom .mrk files, btw, is to print Page Information within the imageable area, so we can print the date/time of printing on our in-house 11x17 proofs of 11x17 pages before we go to press.)

Hi All,
I am posting here in elkalamar's discussion because it is on topic for a related question that is not getting response from my own discussion thread.  I hope someone can help.
I am using Indesign CS 5.5 on Windows 7 operating system.
I have converted a book (pdf print) to an interactive pdf.  Almost every page has an mp3 that plays on page load and ALMOST all of it is working like a charm, except:
there are two files (also mp3's, file size not necessarily larger than any of the other mp3s) that play in Indesign's preview panel and that also play in my iTunes media player, as well as if I export the document as an .swf.  But these two mp3s DO NOT play (or are playing with no sound somehow) in Interactive PDF export.
If I leave the 'media player' grey box enlarged instead of hiding it, I know that the mp3 IS appearing, but no sound or not playing.  Other buttons on the same page and throughout the rest of the document work just fine.
Any idea what could be going on with these two mp3s?
Thanks,

    My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • Please a solution against crashes when opening a file with Acrobat XI pro?

    Hello,
    Am a member of Adobe Creative Cloud.
    Am also constantly having crashes when opening a file with Acrobat XI pro.
    Am running on Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit - RAM 20 GB -
    The crash happens systematically after the installation of the update. Within one day I uninstalled and reinstalled the program 4x! It takes of a lot of my time.... Thank you for providing a definitive solution!
    Best regards

    I've been having the same issue!  I try to open it and it crashes - says re-open, it crashes...  I re-installed it yesterday and it opened and worked fine.  Closed it out at the end of the day thinking everything was finally fine but this morning the same crashes it had yesterday...  HELP!!!

  • How to create a "Custom Color" for highlighting? (Acrobat XI)

    March 10, 2014
    How to create a "Custom Color" for highlighting? (Acrobat XI)
    The numbers in the RGB and other fields change as various numbers are changed.
    I wanted to create a pale orange:
    Hue               13      Red      255
    Saturation   240      Green  177
    Luminosity    86       Blue     140
    I'd selected one of the orange squares in the color grid, to display the general orange area of the slider.
    I moved the slider to select a pale orange, which generated the above numbers.   Since this wasn't directly available to save to a Custom Color, I tried to  edit the numbers.  Unfortunately, the other numbers changed, making it impossible to actually create a color.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Note:  I used Techsmith's Snagit to show screen shots in a Word document.
    When I attempted to browse and upload the file, the error message said "[The content type of this image is not allowed.]"
    OK...what images *are* allowed?

    Hi Don,
    I saw Gilad answered your question in another forum post.

    it is a custom Pdf Profile but basically an X1a with a few tweeks, When I try a watch folder with distiller it just errors out all the files.
    Batch Processing using the "Create PDF, Batch Create Multiple Files " in Acrobat works but does not let me choose a pdf profile.

  • Combine supported files in acrobat missing in acrobat x pro when I right click drop down menu

    combine supported files in acrobat missing in adobe x pro when I right click drop down menu also Convert to Adobe PDF is missing too.  The open with & share with options are gone too when I right click files.  My computer crashed & I had to have the motherboard replaced.  The tech store put some of my programs back on my compter but not sure how or if they did stuff correctly.  Need help fixing my problem becasue I use this all the time.  Thanks

    I'm having the same issue. I got a new PC, insalled Acrobat X pro and when I right click on an Office file, I could not combine or convert Office files to PDF. I upgraded to Acrobat XI and still no fix. I triled to convert or combine office files to PDF from within Acrobat and I get an error message saying "Acrobat does not support the conversion of one or more of your files to PDF. Please remove these files or go to Settings and choose the PDF Portfolio option".
    I've tried to convert or combine Office 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013 files and none work. The weird thing is that the option shows up for Excel .csv files. Even more werid is that I have the PDF tabs showing in the Office applications.
    I contacted Adobe support via chat and they were unable to help. I was directed here, so any help would be great.
    Thanks.

  • Rasterization of complex postscript-file crashes in 64-bit Photoshop CS5

    Rasterization of complex PS-file crashes in 64-bit Photoshop CS5
    I have a variety of complex postscript files that were created in Adobe InDesign CS3 and CS5 through "print to postscript file". I try to rasterize these files in Photoshop CS5 (64 bit on Macintosh) and it crashes Photoshop even before the dialog box comes where one has to specify the dpi for rasterizing. If I use Photoshop CS3 or Photoshop CS5 with 32 Bit opening, it does not crash; and in this case I can rasterize a 100cm x 160cm format with 300 dpi.
    If I reduce the complexity to near triviality it works with the 64 bit version.
    A major reason why I bought CS5 was because I thought that with the 64 bit version I can handle rasterization of large files better: there are a few minor artifacts created by rasterization in Photoshop 32 bit version which are presumably due to some memory problems; I thought the 64 bit version can solve it. But now it turns out that the 64 bit version cannot handle complex files at all.
    If I use Distiller to convert the postscript-File into a pdf file, then the 64-bit version does the rasterization, but there are some reasons why I prefer the rasterization directly from the postscript file.
    Is that a bug of the 64 version?
    V.S.

    I did a lot of testing in the meantime since we have often the task to printout large charts with complex content on plotters of medium size printing companies who need tiffs since they cannot handle pdfs with complex contents.
    It turns out that for large charts with complex content the method to export from Indesign to pdf with PDF/X-1a profile and subsequent rasterization in photoshop to create the tiffs sometimes produces a few minor artifacts; mainly very thin white lines that you see in the printout. Also it is not good if your file contains graphics for which PDF/X-1a profile sometimes does not yield the desired high quality. (In addition the pdf file has a lot of display artifacts visible on screen but not manifesting in the rasterized photoshop file.)
    The use of the "High Quality Print" profile (instead of PDF/X-1a profile) makes it worse since sometimes semi-transparent objects are printed as 100 percent solid. The solution in this case is to change the Acrobat 5 compatibility of the "High Quality Print" profile to Acrobat 4 compatibility, this solves the semi-transparent problem, I don't understand why, but it does.
    On Macintosh one can print to pdf (instead of export to pdf), this solves all problems with artifacts as far as I can judge; however  "print to pdf" has PDF/X-1a profile and I don't see any direct way how to change it to "High Quality Print" profile. Presumably I would have to locate somewhere in the Library > Adobe Application Support > Adobe (on Mac) the presets for "print to pdf" and change it if possible.
    The easiest way on Macintosh that gives no artifacts is for large charts with complex content to "print to postscript" (with Adobe PDF 9.0 PPD), then use distiller with any suitable profile, like "PDF/X-1a-2001" profile or "High Quality Print" profile, to produce a pdf. This pdf looks fine on screen and simultaneously when rasterized with Photoshop (for example the 64 bit version of CS5) gives you a good photoshop file.
    You may be right that the workflow
    Indesign > print to postscript > pdf via distiller > rasterize to photoshop file
    is outdated for simple and medium complex projects, but for those really complex large charts this is the only viable way to my knowledge; I also know that some of my colleagues use this sometimes for complex projects when export to pdf creates artifacts.
    V.S.

  • Calling AVDocClose with more than one PDF open crashes Acrobat

    That pretty much sums it up. If I have a single PDF open and I call AVDocClose everything works great. If I have more than one PDF open it crashes Acrobat and takes down all of the open documents. Any ideas as to what might be happening and how to get around it? I'm seeing it in both Acrobat 8 and Acrobat 9.

    Okay, that sounds ike it could be something to look at. I'm certainly not an expert in using the SDK so maybe you can help me identify the potential issue. This is the code I'm using with some comments to help you understand what I'm doing. I just added the ASFileSysReleasePath references after reading your post but apparently I'm still missing something. The issue occurs in the code path where I'm working with local documents.
    ACCB1 void ACCB2 MyPluginCommand_Save(void *clientData)
    initializeVariables();
    if(myAVDoc==NULL)
    // if no doc is loaded, display a message.

    else
    //Here are a couple of functions that are just used to set up some file paths for both windows and acrobat
    string docName = getDocName();
    string path = buildAcroPath(docName);
    ASPathName upPath = ASFileSysCreatePathFromCString(NULL,path.c_str());
    //call doc exists to see if we have a local doc or one that is in control of my DMS - doesn't use any Acrobat SDK functions
    bool ndExists = ndDocExists(filename);
    if(!ndExists) //if the file is not from the DMS
    //save this file to a temporary location - this is what actually gets sent to the DMS
    PDDocSave(pdDoc, PDSaveFull | PDSaveCopy | PDSaveCollectGarbage , upPath, ASGetDefaultFileSys(), NULL, NULL);
    //send the document to the DMS and get the status of the operation back - doesn't use any Acrobat SDK functions
    int ndStatus = ndImport(path);
    checkNDStatus(ndStatus);
    else
    //This is a document from the DMS. Just do a regular file save
    PDDocSave(pdDoc, PDSaveFull | PDSaveCollectGarbage , pathName, ASGetDefaultFileSys(), NULL, NULL);
    ASFileSysReleasePath(ASGetDefaultFileSys(), upPath);
    ASFileSysReleasePath(ASGetDefaultFileSys(), pathName);

  • OCSP in DSS seems to be invalid and may crash Acrobat

    Hi there!
    I'm currently facing some problems when we try to add a DSS to a timestamped document. Afterwards the timestamp is not marked as LTV in Acrobat and if we try to re-add the verification data via Acrobat it crashes. You can find the document in question here.
    If I add the verification data to the initial version of the file via Acrobat, there's no problem.
    I compared the DSS structure (actually I didn't left the Certs in the VRI entry which is done by Acrobat but this didn't makes a difference to the actual situation) and the OCSP response in detail and noticed that there's only a single strange difference:
    This part represents the nonce extension in two ocsp responses (left by Acrobat - working, right by a webservice - not working). The extnValue isn't a valid ASN.1 structure which makes me thinks that this is the problem? The webservice/nonce in the request is out of our scope so I cannot play with this. I just want to ask if anybody can confirm that this little nonce value will let Acrobat crash and will ignore the response completely?
    Any comment is welcome!
    Thanks
    Jan

    I do not get a crash when I open your PDF (which I downloaded from the URL you provided) in my copy of Acrobat DC. Acrobat validates the signature fine but looks for OCSP on-line. It rejects the OCSP in DSS because it is malformed. The service that created this signature is at fault.

    These are not Acrobat. You need to download and install Acrobat in order to use it.
    Flr wrote:
    how to open file in Acrobat XI
    I am not sure I understand your question but I think you are looking for this.
    1. Right click on the PDF file.
    2. Click on "Open With". You will see Adobe Acrobat in the list.
    3. Click on it.
    Alternatively,
    1a. On Windows, open the Start Menu (bottom left of the screen).
    1b. On Mac, open the Spotlight (top right of the screen).
    2. Type Acrobat. You will see Adobe Acrobat in the list.
    3. Click on it. Acrobat will open.
    4. Goto File -> Open. Locate the file and click Open.
    If Acrobat is not displayed anywhere, it means that the software is not installed on your machine.
    To verify:
    1a. On Windows, open Control Panel, then open Programs and Features.
    1b. On Mac, open a Finder Window, then click Applications on the left.
    2. Look for Adobe Acrobat in the list.
    If Acrobat is not present, download and install from the website http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html or using Adobe Download Assistant.

  • Word 2007 won't save files with Acrobat Pro 9.0 Installed

    Last night an issue started occurring while trying to save a document in MS Word 2007 (part of an Office Ultimate install).  After about 10 hours of trying several suggestions from a variety of forums and MS suggestions I found that the only time I cannot save a file by traditional means is when Acrobat is installed.  I tried updating Acrobate and had the same thing happen.  MS says all that's left for me to do is get an answer from Adobe (I have to wonder if it's a copout).
    Steps taken so far:
    Disabled the PDF add-in - still unable to save Word files
    Removed PDF add-in - still unable to save Word files
    Removed entire CS4 suite - Word was able to properly save files
    Installed only the parts of the suite that I use frequently (Photoshop, Soundbooth, Premiere, Acrobat) - unable to save Word files
    Removed Acrobat Pro 9.0 - Word saves files properly again
    When I say it will not save a file I've tried the keyboard shortcuts for Save/Save As, Choosing the Save/Save As from drop down, and even attempted to save by closing the document.  When prompted with the option to save changes I say yes and nothing will happen, I have to close the document with nothing saved.
    I hate the idea of reinstalling Acrobat each time I need to use it to keep Word functional.  I've seen a ton of threads on other forums related to this issue.  Has anybody else seen this or know about a fix/work around?  Any help is appreciated.  Please let me know if additional detail is necessary.
    The operating system for the affected computer is Windows 7 32-bit.

    I installed each update individually (6 of them) and rebooted after each update.  Opened Word and attempted to save a document (after each update/reboot), the documents still cannot be saved (previously created documents still cannot have new detail saved).
    Decided to delete the Office folder in the following path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\PDFMaker\Office
    Opened up word and Acrobat went through an installation processes, to replace what was removed I assume.  After this was done I attempted to save a document and was still unable to do so.  Went back and deleted that Office folder in the above path again.  When opening Word this time I cancelled the installation process that Adobe was trying to complete.  Preventing the install of the settings and PDF add-in allowed documents to be saved again in word.
    I decided to try to remove the innactive add-in from my Word Options and received the following error message:
    "The connected state of Office Add-Ins registered in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE cannot be changed"
    Due to my deleting that folder?
    I suppose I could cancel that installation that initiates each time I open Word (or any other Office program that benefits from Acrobat Add-ins) but that will be a bit of an annoyance.
    Anybody have another suggestion, know what may need to be deleted from the registry to prevent the Add-ins installation when opening Word, or know where that setting can be changed?
    Hopefully getting close to a resolution

  • Default optimization for new files in Acrobat 9 Pro

    When I create a new file in Acrobat Pro 9, it automatically saves as version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x). Much as I would love the whole world to have the latest reader version on their computer, the reality is that many of my website's users have older versions installed. As a consequence, I need to optimize all files as version 1.4, otherwise they won't be able to open the documents in their browsers.
    Why isn't there a preference setting to optimize all new files as 1.4 by default? This would save having to run the optimizer every time. Also, if I start from a file that is already optimized as 1.4, I extract a page and save it, this saves as 1.6. Why? If I am starting from a 1.4 PDF, surely that's the version I want?
    So every time I extract a page, tese are the steps I have to take:
    1) Extract and save the page
    2) Optimize it for 1.4
    3) Save it again (after confirming that yes, I do indeed want to overwrite it).
    I do this several times a day and it's an absolute pain in the neck, which could be avoided by implemeting any of these features:
    1) A setting under Preferences> Default PDF Version for new files;
    2) A PDF version selection box within the "Save As" dialog (I believe this feature has been requested by others);
    3) Acrobat Pro realizing that you have extracted the page from a 1.4 file and therefore saving the new file with the same format;
    4) Some sort of batch optimization option, so I only have to run the conversion once.
    Frankly I'm surprised none of these features already exist.
    Come on Adobe, is this really so hard to do?
    Thank you.
