Custom Repeats in iCal on IPhone

On my iCal on my computer...I can customize how an events repeats. On my iCal on my iPhone...I do not see that option. Am I missing something? How can I create an event, on my iPhone, using a custom repeat?

So...on the iPhone, I canNOT set up an event with a custom repeat...? I see the list mentioned in the above reply, but on my computer, there is an additional option CUSTOM. With custom, I can set up an event to happen say every 3rd Tuesday. Can I do such a repeat on iPhone? If so, how?

Can anyone Tell me how to schedule events that occur for example M-F only?
The old calander app let you select which days an event occurs. This new one only seems to give the following options:
Never,
Every Day
Every Week
Every Month
Every Year
The ability to schedule something that occurs on certain days of the week throught a year seems like a basic concept for a calander app to me. I would think apple would be smart enough to allow a user to do this. Any idea's?

These customizable settings have not been an option for the Calendar in iOS. There are a number of calendar apps available in the App store. You might want to do a search in the forum here for recommendations from others.

If your wireless environment is less than ideal, as it is in most inhabited areas, the influence of other wireless networks and devices competing for the same very small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum will affect your network's performance. Your own wireless network is a microcosm of that environment.
To mitigate the effects of competing wireless networks, use 5 GHz to the maximum practicable extent. It is comparatively free from interference contributed by other wireless devices and is likely to remain that way for some time. However, it is less tolerant of intervening obstructions and construction materials than the 2.4 GHz spectrum, so it's not a panacea. Every installation is different so you must experiment to determine the optimum configuration.
Place your wireless router (what kind is it?) in a central location, convenient to all the devices that require it. Most of the time a utility or ISP will locate it in some remote corner next to the utility service entrance. That is almost always the worst possible location.
Others find that only a direct wired Ethernet connection between router and devices will maintain uninterrupted access to Airplay.
That is almost certain to result in the best possible AirPlay performance. Short of having everything hard wired (it's not an option for the iPad for example) use an Ethernet connection for all the devices that lend themselves to that method. Your AppleTV is certainly one of them, since its location is not likely to change very often. Your AirPort Express should be another, since your audio systems are likely to stay put as well. Connect them both to your existing router, either directly or through an inexpensive Ethernet switch. Your problems are likely to be solved with just those two connections.

Custom repeat in Calendar.

Hello all,
Before this recent update for my iPhone and iPad when I would enter an event in calendar there was the option for doing a custom repeat. I would use that for meetings that are every 3 weeks. Now when doing a repeat it shows
Never
Every Day
Every Week
Every 2 Weeks
Every Month
Every Year
But for the life of me I cannot find the custom setting. I would appreciate greatly any help or advice that can be given.

Never mind, after posting my question a few topics popped up regarding the custom option, it is just not available on iCal.

How can I create a custom repeat ("second Wednesday") in Calendar in calender

I have some repeating events (I believe transferred from previous phone) where the "repeat" line says "Custom" and the "every second Wed." (for example" carried over and plots correctly on the iPhone calender, but I don't see any way to CREATE a custom repeat like that. Is it possible?

There is not a selection for every second Wednesday, but you can repeat the event every two weeks as that is a choice. Hope this helps :)

How to add custom field to ical

I run a small business from my mac pro and my iphone. I would like to get a good workflow but it seems I am missing a few bits of information.
First I would like to add custom fields to ical so that I can gather all the information I need in one spot. For example, I create a meeting with new client Tim Smith on Friday so I want to enter his name and contact info into ical because I need his address and phone number on the event so I can reference it.
Then I would like to find a way to automatically create a contact card based on that information. If I can find an apple script that reads the fields in Ical and creates new contacts based on new events that I created.
Then I would like to automate extracting the email addresses to send out preformed group mailers for people who were in my calendar that day ie "Thanks for meeting with me, I think we got a lot accomplished and hope to see you at the next meeting." etc etc
Then also automate reports based off of my ical events such as "Report for how many times I had a meeting in the Blue Room this week" or "How many times did I meet with Timothy Smith" this year
I have tried automator and it doesn't seem strong enough to do this so I am thinking AppleScript but I am not very good at it. Anyone have any ideas on any of these issues?

Custom repeat option in the iPad calendar app

Why is there no custom repeat option (i.e. repeat an event every 1st Thursday, etc.) in the iPad calendar app?

There's a $0.99 app called Calendar Event Pro that adds all the custom repeat and alert functionality to iPad Calendar. It works with the native Calendar app so you don't have to have a separate calendar.

Custom Repeats in Wiki calendar

I have a group set up using a wiki and calendar as a shared team calendar. I noticed that you can create repeating events, but only of a limited nature (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.). I see there is an entry for Custom (like in iCal) but it's disabled ("greyed-out"). Is this disabled intentionally? Is there some way to enable it?
Or alternatively, is there any way I can import existing ICS files (with custom repetitions in them) into this calendar instead of creating them within the calendar's web view?

I have the same question. About 50% of my users are on non-mac platforms and live on the web clients for collaboration. This has been requested by most of those users.

Custom Repeat Entry on Calendar

Does anyone know why Apple removed the ability to customize a "Repeat Event" on your calendar? I remember when I had the 1st generation iPhone, I was able to set a custom Repeat Event then after so many system updates I noticed that they took this option out which I find very puzzling - that option was very important!

What exactly are you doing and how or when does it revert to weekly, mine seems to work OK.

On the previous software version I used to be able to view all my calendar events as a list by clicking on the magnifying glass. Now you have to type into the search dialog box for a list to populate. This is very frustrating and annoying because I much prefer the list format to populate everything unless I specify what I am looking for into the search box. Is there a way to view all the events as a list without having to type anything into the search box?

And you are aware of the possible options for listing the months and having an optional export value for each month.
For listing the months, you can use a number, a 3 character string, or the full name.
For the export value, the full name, the 3 character value, the 1-2 number, or the 0-11 JavaScript value.
I would look at deciding how you want to populate the drop down box and build a one page form with just this field. You can then insert that page into a PDF and copy the field as needed and then delete the inserted page. Or you could create an FDF file to create the drop down box.

BUG: Calendar, Custom Repeat (1st Sunday)

Go to June 7th.
Create a new event.
Go to event details.
Tap "no repeat", "custom"
Change custom repeat and "Monthly on 2nd Sunday" pops up. This should be "Monthly in first Sunday".

This seems to happen whenever trying to create an event on the first day of the month. It is consistently reproduceable.
Attempt to create a monthly repeating event on the first day of the month. So for example, Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009. When you try to make it a repeating event, you will be told the only option is to have it repeat 5th Sunday of each the month. It should say the 1st Sunday of each month.
This problem is simple and need to be fixed in the next update.
Try it. You'll see it's a programming error.

Questions:
1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
3. Do you backup your computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427)?
--- If you don't regularly backup your computer, now is the time to start.
4. Do you backup your iPhone (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766)?
Check the calendar list on the left hand side of iCal. Is it that the individual events are duplicated or is it just that you have the same calendar listed more than once? If its that you have more than 1 copy of each calendar, you can delete one of the duplicate calendars to eliminate the duplicates.
If you find that it is the individual events that are duplicated then there are 2 options:
1. Restore your computer iCal database or iPhone from a backup made before the duplication occurred.
2. Use a duplication removal program (or do it by hand) to remove the duplicates: http://www.nhoj.co.uk/icaldupedeleter/
If you have a backup made before the duplication occurred, reply back with what kind of backup you have and I'll suggest how to recover the calendars.
To avoid this issue in the future:
Keep regular backups. They are your best defense against data anomalies which are a fact of life in computers (although hopefully rare).
Keep your computer and iPhone software fully up to date (Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update).
Make sure the date and time on your computer and iPhone are correct before you sync the two devices.
Make sure the cable connections between the two is solid and that the cable shows no signs of physical damage.

In meinem iCal-Kalender im iPhone herrscht das Chaos. Ereignisse, die ich ein- oder mehrmals in iCal meines MacBookPro verschoben habe, bleiben beim Syncen mit iTunes auf dem iPhone bestehen. So sind manche Einträge mehrfach vorhanden. Gewünscht wird, dass iCal im iPhone identisch mit iCal im MacBookPro ist.
Ich habe ein iPhone 4S und ein MacBookPro mit OS 10.6.8.
In iTunes habe ich bei den Syncoptionen «Erweitert» > «Informationen auf diesem iPhone ersetzen» > «Kalender» angewählt. Und auch ohne dieses Häkchen habe ich es versucht. Bis anhin alles ohne den gewünschten Erfolg.
Was kann ich tun, um das iPhone von den alten, nicht mehr gültigen Termineinträgen frei zu bekommen???

Basically he has two iMac24's one at home and one at work. He has the iPhone set to synch everything except calendar and addresses on the home Mac, and Calendar and addresses on the work mac. At work he uses Entourage.
Every time he synchs at work all music film and video are deleted from the iPhone although he has the phone set NOT to synch these items. Photos however do stay on the phone.
In the meantime he is using .mac as a workaround but this is not perfect as he cannot synch at work. If he synchs Addresses and Calendars on both imacs he gets duplicate entries - doesn’t matter whether he selects update or replace.
Does anyone have the same problem or even better a solution?

How do I create a Calendar custom repeat or custom alert other than the choices given?

I would like to create a custom repeat for my calendar such as every 6 weeks or, every other month or whatever choice - - the only choices are "Every Day, Every week, every 2 weeks, every month, every year"? I would also like to create a custom alert for 2 weeks before or 10 days, etc and there is no "custom" option???

Whenever you find out let me know. I wanted to assign a text tone to someone and now in iOS 7 i can't. Or I haven't figured this out yet.

Paul--you are a life-saver!! Worked great. I did have to look around to make sure I was getting 4.9 instead of 4.7 (even when the file was named 4.9 at techspot.com), but I finally got the right file, did the install as you suggested, and everything is now fine. One note, though, that I haven't seen mentioned in any of this thread: when I first tried to open up iTunes after getting back to 4.9, the following message appeared: "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." I merely went to the old .itl file that was created when I did the update to iTunes 5, renamed it, moved it over to my now new 4.9, and iTunes opened fine. My library was a few days out of date, because of the few days' lag from the time I did the iTunes update, but that was easily taken care of, and everything's now working fine. Thanks again!!!
