Custom samples for read aloud books

I have uploaded a fixed layout read-aloud book and it needed a custom sample before it could go into the IBookstore. Imade one and reuploaded but now it says I still need a sample for the origina l as well as the preview. What am I doing wrong? In the asset guide it says something about type="preview" I assume that means that I have to insert something in the metadata of the preview to say it is a preview Is this right? If so can anybody tell me exatly what I need to insert.

You're not doing anything wrong. I used iTunesProducer and got the same message. So I called the people at iTunesConnect and tech told me it says that but it showed on his end. A week later my Children's ebook was in the iBookstore along with my sample being available.

Hey, I am having problems with Audacity and making the audio labels. I have several articles and Liz Castrol's Book on how to make read aloud epub books. I even have the easy epub code editor app that generates code for the read aloud. I can't get past the track labeling because the labeling doesn't work the way I see it on all other sites. When I hit Command-B, it gives a red flag with a red square. It looks nothing like the blue < and > symbols I see on Audacity's web site and Liz Castrol's book. I have the latest Audacity but can't make labels right. When I save the .txt file, it has the numbers next to my labels (I typed in the words in the labels) and it outputs one set of long numbers next to each word. The sample in the book and on the app has two long numbers next to each word. What is going on with my version of Audacity? Does anyone have the same issue? My book reads aloud (when combining the audio and .txt file) but it does not highlight the words.

Narration not playing for Read Aloud

To start, I am hand coding this, not using iBooks author or any 3rd party editor.
I can't seem to get my narration file to start playing.
I've used the Fixed Layout example from Apple to see what I need, and set up everything pretty similarly. When I turn on the narration, nothing happens.
I believe my SMIL is correct, as well as the audio being encoded correctly. If I embed the sound file directly, it plays no problem. If I set my narration as the background sound file, it plays just fine.
In fact, here is the code
I cannot figure out why I can't get it work.
Any help would be appreciated.

I strongly suspect that you cannot use the same name for the sample file and the book file. I would try with a different name, such as a _sample suffix.

Adobe Reader 9 will not let me change the voice for Read Aloud.

I use two voices on my computer (which is a Mac notebook running Snow Leopard), Alex, the standard voice for English, and a German voice, Infovox Juiia. When I try to change from Alex to Julia to have a German languge PDF read aloud, I go to Preferences, Reader, Read Out Loud options, but the Voice dropbox only offers me the Alex voice, and clicking on the up and down arrows does not work. If I check the Use Default Voice, it still uses Alex, even if I have set Julia as my System voice in System Preferences.

I have spent two days at ti, but have finally resolved it myself. I deleted my Adobe Reader and installed an older version, and the problem disappeared. By the way, I also tried AR11, but the probelm was there too.

IBooks read aloud has a bug for reading epub 3 book

I have ten pages read aloud book. ibooks reads page 1 to 10 smoothly but sometime after page 5 it read aloud page 1 audio(it does not go back to page1) and then start reading page 5.
I closed the ibook reopen and then it works fine.
I am testing several times and it is not repeatable but occurs 2 of out of ten.
I verified my epub 3 book with validator and it works fine.

No errors or warnings detected.
What could be wrong here?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

Ipad is disappointing for reading

I have been very disappointed in my Ipad Air. One reason I got it was to read aloud books and other things. I cannot make it work. I have been to the support discussions and followed the instructions to activate the voice over feature, but cannot get anything to work. The books that I have downloaded with my Kindle app are not read aloud, even with this feature activiated. The only audible books I see on IBooks are children's books. I would have been better off to have gotten the Kindle Fire, I think.

Amazon provides many audible books, and it is possible that many of the Kindle books you have already purchased have an audible counterpart which is avialable from Amazon for a few dollars:

Check out the "Find Your Match" section to see which of your current Kindle books have an audible counterpart. Then you also need to download the Audible app, which is available in the App Store for free:

Follow the instructions on the Amazon page. Going forward, when you purchase Kindle books, if you see a "Whispersync for Voice" option at the bottom of the Kindle Book summary page, then you can add the audible version of that book for a small additional fee.

There are quite a few apps available for iPad for read-along books for children. Is there some way to get something similar for my iMac without buying software like Reader Rabbit?

iBooks are DRM protected and will only open in the iBooks app on an iOS device or a Mac computer.

How do you add read aloud to a fixed layout book?

I have seen some ibooks (childrens books) with read aloud abilities. I know you have to do some programming but what program do you use to edit the code, can you preview it in ibooks (on ipad) if you modify the code, and is there a non-programming way to add audio/speech to your ibooks through ibooks author? Does anyone know the process or what steps and programs needed to add the read aloud feature to an ibook? (I know there are many others out their who would like to know the answers to these questions). Thanks.
Also, I have HD images (2000x1462) for my ibook in ibooks author and when I preview it on an ipad 2, it downsizes it to regular quality (like 1400x1200 ish). Since I don't yet own an iPad 3, do the images stay HD quality when an ibook (from ibooks author) is viewed on an iPad 3?

Okay, I just finished building my Ibook in Ibooks Author. I tested one of the free ibooks (Peter Rabit) and liked how it reads to you. I have read many articles and other posts here on Apple.com and everyone seems to want to add this read aloud feature. I have the Fixed Layout EPUBs Miniguide and iBookstore Asse Guide 4_8 and even though the miniguide explains things step by step, its like reading Greek. I am new to programming. Since I assume you are an expert, what I need is help getting started. I'm pretty good at figuring things out, I just need to get a jumpstart as fast as possible. (I don't want to spend a whole month trying to add this read aloud feature).
1. I have a finished book but its not looking like the fixed layout kids books I see on ibooks. Is there a simple way to just tell ibooks its a fixed layout and get rid of the textbook features without using programming? (I know there are people out there who agree with me)
2. I know that I need a XML SMIL compatable text editor (BBedit is the only one I heard is free and good). But where do I begin? Is there some kind of template of code where I just add in the code to get the book to read from audio files? If I edit the epub file, will this book still be able to be sent to the iPad through ibooks Author for a preview?
3. I am familiar with Audacity so the audio part is doable. But the coding is scaring me. To add a word by word reading for the ibook requires more programming.
4. Tell me a short list of what I need to do in order. I have all this information but its overwhelming because I hate programming. (I tried making an iphone app and gave up because it required Xcode, which is way out of my league). I don't know where to start from my finished iBook so what is the next thing I need to do?

The issue eventually resolved itself, I still don't really know why. I kept up with Windows update, and attempted downloading iTunes again from the Apple website, and it just... worked. It now works fine. I don't know why it took approximately 4 months to work, though.
I'm sorry I don't have any more helpful information. Posting here was my last resort, and clearly Apple never bothered to reply.

Auto picking Excise values while booking customs invoice for Import.

I want to have the excise values(...BED,CVD,CESS,HCESS,SAD...), to be picked up in my MIRO screen while booking customs invoice for my imports.
These excise values have to be captured based on my PO excise values.As my PO has number of lineitems,its tough to enter the excise values manually one by one while booking my customs invoice (before migo...).
Could you pls share your experience and valuable ideas to capture this automatically.

First of all, as we do MIRO before MIGO in case of imports, the duties cannot be defaulted as per standard SAP. another problem you will face in applying any exits/enhancements is that Your PO will be in foreign currency , you will do MIRO in INR, at time of MIRO , what exchange rate do you expect system to pick up? because customs have their own exchange rate for the month which is different from the exchange rate mantained as per Forex .

On both devices go to Settings>iBooks>Sync Bookmarks>On. Then when you want to quit reading on one device, tap the bookmark in the upper right corner and it will turn red. That marks your place. Close the book on the device now by tapping on the Library button in the upper left corner of the app. That will put the closed book back on the shelf. Tap the home button.
On the other device, when you tap on the book, it should open to that page. You have to be connected to WiFi in order for this to work. You can read this older discussion for more information. I was involved in that as well.
