Custom screen saver idle time

Is there a way to set a custom screen saver idle time? Through terminal? I tried "defaults -currentHost write com.apple.screensaver idleTime 160" for 3 minutes but that makes it go to 20 when I view it in preferences... lol, wow. This is hilarious. It's too much to have a slider or let the user enter any number? Too much for Apple, I know. It's tough. 100 billion dollar company. Can't even adjust the mouse acceleration either. Apple is Christ reincarnate.

i got it to work
I was runing it as root and you have to run it as Current console user on target computer in order for it to work.
just in case someone else ever needs it.

  • Creating a custom screen saver that won't blow a small image

    Hello All...
At work, my boss is trying to get me to create a custom screen saver with our business logo to display when activated. I'm usually pretty comfortable with these kinds of tasks, but for this one I'm at a loss.
I've have my logo in a designated folder and when I'm under Screen Saver in System Preferences, I have that folder selected and then would like the image to repeat itself, but basically jump around the screen (sort of like "gasp" the Windows XP default screen saver). My problem is that no matter what the size of my logo is, it is fitted automatically to the size of the monitor, even if it is a rather small logo. Therefore, 1) it is very pixelated and 2.) it defeats the purpose of the screen saver because it can't jump around.
I've turned off the option "Crop slides to fill screen" thinking that would work, but it hasn't. We're running OS 10.5.8 on 24" iMacs from early/mid 2009. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This is a heavy handed approach but how about creating a document the size of your screen, and paste the logo in its original size into it.
It's not heavy handed. this is the only thing that makes sense here and I was going to suggest that too. just make an image of appropriate size. that's not hard.
In fact, using Photoshop or Gimp you could make several layers, each with a different colour background, move the logo around on each layer, save each layer as a separate image and then play with them. Do a slideshow with transitions etc.
BTW, where did the quartz composer go? It used to be included in the previous versions of OSX.
Quartz composer would let you create "proper" screen savers.
    Edit:
    Have a look here:

Surely you'll find someone or something that can help you.

  • Screen saver start time greyed out

In Mavericks, The Screen saver start time menu is Greyed out at "20 minutes".  How do I activate this drop-down menu?.  Thanks

There is no lock icon on the window. I went into another preferences setting (Users) and unlocked the lock there, then went back to screensaver/display, and the "20 minutes" button is still greyed out.  thanks.

  • Setup a 15 Minute Screen Saver Start Time?

How do I set my screen saver to activate after 15 minutes?
My options in the CP are Never, 1 minute, 2, 5, 10, 20, 30, or 1 hour. I don't want any of those choices, I want it to start after 15 minutes. That number works best with the sleep settings in my energy saver plan.
Not sure when this CP option changed, maybe it was with Mavericks, but it's odd that I can't select the exact time I want my screen saver to kick in.

The screensaver running time is capped by the time you set the display to sleep. On my machine, the screensave kicks in after 5 minutes of idle use and the display sleeps after 10 minutes.

  • App rejected for disabling screen lock (idle timer) in iOS8

I just had an app rejected because I have a user changeable setting which allows the user to disable screen lock via
    [UIApplication sharedApplication].idleTimerDisabled = YES;
Apple says I used an undocumented API but it IS indeed documented here: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/uikit/reference/UIApplicat ion_Class/index.html#//apple_ref/occ/instp/UIApplication/idleTimerDisabled
My app graphs the barometric pressure and if you want the graph to run longer than a minute or two, it is important to disable screen lock. The default behavior is screen locking as usual, but there's an option in the settings to disable screen lock and this seems to be what Apple took issue with. I've had academic users request this feature, and I have used it in other apps successfully, however this time Apple rejected my app for using it. Is this normal? Is disabling screen lock via UIApplication really now allowed?

Just saw this in the doc:
However, apps that don't have user input except for the accelerometer—games, for instance—can, by setting this property to YES, disable the “idle timer” to avert system sleep.
    (emphasis added)
So does your app use the accelerometer? Seems weird that that would be the only case where an app could disable the idle timer but they did specifically mention it in the doc, so…
As a paid developer you can and should take this to the IOS dev site. You might can a more definitive answer.
    good luck
    regards
    <edit>
Looking at your last post I don;t think the problem is  using an undocumented API,  it is in not using it in the prescribed manner. At least that is how I read it.

  • Nokia 6350 How to alter screen save/idle mode/slee...

My wife's new Nokia 6350 seems to work great for about the first three minutes of each voice call.  After that, the screen dims, and quickly after that the call is often dropped.  Someone suggested there must be something such as an idle mode, or a screensaver, or a timeout setting, which could alter this behavior.  I've searched all through the user's guide and the menus under "settings", to no avail.  Please someone advise me how to access the correct setting to change this, if at all possible!!  Thanks sincerely!

    As a further note, I found this line in a recent Cnet review of the phone;
"Iin sleep mode, the screensaver shows up and calls drop if you don't answer quickly. No dropped calls if not in sleep mode."
So it seems like someone else has seen, and found a fix for, this problem.  But I cannot find anything like a 'sleep mode', 'idle mode' or 'screensaver' referenced in the phone's menus or in the pdf user guide.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  I posted a question to Nokia's online product support, but so far have received no response.
    Thanks -

  • 24" LED Cinema display doesn't display screen saver.

I have my MacBook Pro set to display a screen saver- (flurry). The MBP alone functions as desired. When plugged into the Cinema display, which is 90% of the time, it has only appeared maybe once or twice since purchased, even after Snow Leopard was installed. Anybody have a clue on what could be casing my flurry to be absent? Thanks!

I just answered my own question. I didn't realize that I had the sleep/ screen saver activation times set the same. (Hence the reason why I would see about .5 seconds of flurry before the screen would go black).

  • Screen Saver Won't Display

The screen on my iBook is going black after 5 minutes instead of running the screen saver. I've checked Energy Saver and that doesn't seem to be the issue.

    kc,
The only obvious cause for this would be to have the Display Sleep time set earlier or the same as the Screen Saver start time.
It's also possible you have the screen saver set to start with a black slide. If you have a hot corner set, use that to activate the screen saver and check its ordinary behavior.
Mine fades to black on battery, where both are set to the same time, but goes to the screen saver on ACD power, where the SS is set to activate before Display Sleep.

  • Sleep mode & screen saver

I have a PowerBook G4 1.5 Ghz and I have this weird problem: if I setup my screen saver startup time before the computer goes to sleep mode, the PB stop responding, it freezes and it never sleeps. On the other hand, if I move the “start screen saver” bar to the “never” position, so the computer do not turn on the screen saver, the computer turn off the screen (expected) and after that, it enters in sleep mode without any problem.
If somebody could help me, it would be great!!!!
    Thanks

Oh yeah I forgot to say I use an ETHERNET connection.

  • Screen Saver does not use selected Screen Saver when activated

Screen Saver does not use selected Screen Saver when activated. After "Start screen saver" elapse time has been reached, a blank black full screen is displayed. I can activate the selected screen saver by using the hot corners function. Any help with this matter will be greatfully received.

    Hi again sassey,
You're assuming correctly. Simply change the settings so that your screen saver activates before the sleep settings.
    Hope this solves your problem...

    Hi,
    I agree with SenneVL.
After you have created the .scr file that you want to apply, you may deploy the screensaver via the following group policy.
    User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Personalization\Force specific screen saver
If you enable this setting, type the name of the file that contains the screen saver, including the .scr file name extension. If the screen saver file is not in the %Systemroot%\System32
directory, type the fully qualified path to the file.
Note: This setting can be superseded by the "Enable Screen Saver" setting.  If the "Enable Screen Saver" setting is disabled, this setting is ignored,
and screen savers do not run.

    Hi boadiceaa,
Is the machine in a domain environment ?How did you configure the screensaver ?
Usually we can configure it here .
Right click the blank desktop ,choose personalize ,screensaver.
There is a registry key we can configure the timeout of the screensaver .
     HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\ScreenSaveTimeout
If it is a domain environment ,please check whether the screensaver group policy has been configured.
We can run "rsop " to have a check .
We also can try to configure it from the group policy
    Screen Saver timeout
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc961876.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
If the issue persists, we can try to login with another account and configure it to have a check .This will help us to narrow down whether this issue is caused by the specific account .
    Best regards
im not exactly sure what you mean by domain but its for my home network, just simple SOHO. ive tried using another user account to change it but it doesnt matter what it only goes to 15 mins max time.
youd suggest i look into the registry for starters or?
    thanks again for the reply

  • T61 display idle timer doesn't save

    Thinkpad T61P
    Windows 7 x64
I use a custom plan for PowerManager.  Each time I boot, the idle timer for "Turn off Display" is set to 5min/20min (battery/AC).  I bring up Power Manager, change them to never/never, and hit the OK button.  The display will now not be turned off when I am watching long videos.  When I reboot, however, the setting is again 5min/20min.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?  If a bug, how do I contact Lenovo Support to file it?
    Thanks for the help!

I'm not sure if the setting I am about to tell you about is tied to Power Manager, but this is worth a try.
    Try this:
     1) "right click" on your desktop and pick "personalize".
     2) Click on "screen saver" on the bottom right.
     3) On the window that pops up pick "Change power settings".
Your choices here are "Balanced" and "Power saver".  Now:
     1) Pick "Change plan settings" on the right of the plan that is selected.
     2) Change the "Turn off the display" setting to "Never" for both Bat and AC
This setting should not be disassociated from Power Manager, but.....
There are other ways to get to this setting but this one is easy.

  • ThinkVantage Power Manager - idle time for screen brightness fixed at 1minute (very anoying)

    Dear all,
    Please consider this problem:
I have just recieved my new X301 which I am very pleased with. However the ThinkVantage Power Manager has a very annoying bug. When creating a custom power scheme everything works as it should (as far as I can tell) except for one thing. Whilst in the "Idle timers" section the first drop down box which allows you to select the "lower display brightness" time in the "battery settings" column I find that I can select any of the options provided, i.e. "After 1 minute", "After 2 minutes", ...etc "After 45 minutes" or "Never". HOWEVER, regardless of what option I select the power manager instantly reverts back to "After 1 minute" as soon as I exit (selecting the "apply" button or the "okay" button does not help). This is incredibly anoying as it means I'm constantly harrased by the sreen changing brighness when I don't want it to OR having to set the "Lower to" setting to the same as the active screen brightness which means there are no power saving advantages at all and I get the anoying flash of the brightness bars on the screen every 60 seconds (that's 60 times in a working hour!)
I have done the following to try to resolve the problem:
    1) updated the power manager to the latest verion: 1.54
    2) uninstalled the power manager comletely and then reinstalled it, then applied the updates bit by bit and checking the problem at each stage
    3) completely restored the entire system to factory setup (formatting the SSD and losing all data and settings...)
NONE of these options have worked. Please note that this is a brand new system out of the box... (cost 2800USD...)
Can anyone please confirm whether or not this happens on their system as well? Is it just me or is this a global problem? I've called the Lenovo ThinkVantage call centre in the US but they couldn't help.
    Thanks for your help,
    AMS.

This is clearly a bug in PM 1.54. I get the same thing with my old X40, Win XP, SP3. I've recently installed PM 1.54, and have the same problem. It has nothing to do with scheduled tasks, as (a) I don't have any (and don't run the Task Scheduler service on my machine), and (b) it happens immediately (ie. edits are lost as soon as I try to apply them).
Does anyone know if there is an official place to log bugs for TP software?
[editM also kicks in with the 'idle' timer while I'm working.I like its functions, but PM does seem buggy]
