Custom shortcuts in Lion?

In Snow Leopard I set up several custom shortcuts for the system and for Safari. Has that functionality completely gone away in Lion? Or has it moved, or am I just getting senile?

BUG: CS6 Custom Shortcuts config file UTF8 entity encoding

When saving custom shortcuts with this "Cmd+<" or "Cmd+Opt+<" Photoshop saves it. I can Use it. Everything Work.
After restarting photoshop, shortcuts not work. Only these two, other work fine.

Probably there is bug in UTF8 entity parsing from shortcuts config.
It cant read entities. But can save them.

Using CDATA or replacing "<" entity by ">". In both cases photoshop returns error in conf file.

There are multiple ways to do similar things. One, built into the system, is to use text replacement. See:

There are other programs you can buy that can do the job in different ways, such as TextExpander. You could also just create a clipping file by dragging your e-mail address to somewhere like the desktop, and then you can simply drag that file to wherever you like to insert your e-mail address there.

Not able to set custom shortcut for increase/decrease brush size in Photoshop CC 2014 on Win 8

I am using Windows 8 and PS CC2014 and the issue is that I can't assign custom shortcut to the dot. I have been using , and . as decreasing and increasing brush size and it has worked well in every photoshop, even cc2014 in win7 but not in win8 it seems. It lets me to change the , and just tells me that it is in use in somewhere else but i can still change it. But I can't do the same with . as it complains it being used by an application although I have cleared that from the original place and left it empty, photoshop still recognizes it if I press it although it would be empty but I can't assign that key to anything else either.
Small thing but drives me crazy as I had to assign it to another keys and I am using the shortcuts from muscle memory mostly and end up changing the brush when I had an intention to increase the size. I tried to google this but couldn't find anything similar solution.

I didn't manage to get it to work :c Restart won't do anything and I tried to reset the preferences by deleting manually the file with keyboard shortcuts. I managed to get them to the factory settings but that was about it. Everytime I try to assign "." to somewhere (including to the place where it already is), it gives the red x and says "the shortcut is not valid. It is being used by another application." (not sure what it is in english exactly, I happen to have my PS in finnish unfortunately ). Plugin disabled mode did nothing either.
I have changed that shortcut many times to different versions earlier and this is first time I see that message or am not being able to change the shortcut. And I installed the photoshop yesterday from fresh and first thing I did was making the shortcuts and it gave the error from the first use.

Any way to link a controls' custom shortcut menu to a new .rtm file?

My project programmatically generates controls from a template. The template has a custom shortcut menu that is saved in the project directory, and the generated controls all work fine with this. However, now I need to be able to export the project to other directories/machines, and so now the generated controls can no longer 'find' the .rtm shortcut file, despite it being in the same folder as the control. This means if I want to be able to use the menu I have to open every generated control (which there can be hundreds of) and right-click -> advanced -> run-time shortcut menu -> and then reopen the file.
Is there any way to programmatically link a controls' shortcut menu to a new .rtm file, or is there any way to set a controls' custom shortcut file as a relative path instead of an absolute one?

It is possible to use the onClick -> go to State and set states on a custom component or any of its subcomponents.
Catalyst does not currently support linking to a local files.

How: create keyboard shortcuts in Lion-Safari and Preview

I've been trying to create a keyboard shortcut for Preview (and perhaps it would work in Safari) so that when I click command and arrow up, the cursor will jump to the top of the document. For example, I'm reading on page 450 of a pdf file and want to go back to the top I'd have to grab the tiny, tiny doodah on the right side of the page and drag it all the way up. In Windows (I do have two Macs and two Windows PCs) you click on control-up arrow and it happens. I tried to modify the keyboard shortcuts in Lion and it does let me do it, but it doesn't work.
I click on System Preferences, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts, Application Shortcuts. It gives me a choice to add a shortcut by clicking on the plus sign, then I I select Preview and it gives me the choice to write the Menu Title (this is probably the problem) and I write gototop (go to the top of document) and then on Keyboard Shortcut I press command and the up arrow. But it doesn't work. Where do I find the Menu Titles for all programs?

There is a page on the Apple site that has all the keyboard shortcuts grouped by function/application.
Don;t have the URL in front of me now but if you poke around you should find it. There are a lot of nice features in there (like these) and is worth looking at.

Adobe Captivate 8 - How to Assign Custom Shortcut Key

I want to switch between the Film Strip view and the Master Slide view quickly. To show/hide the Film Strip there is a default shortcut key CTRL+ALT+B. For the Master Slide there is none.
Is there a way to assign a custom shortcut key to toggle Master Slide view?

I wonder why the lack of support for custom shortcuts keys does NOT surprise me. In overall, shortcut keys are typical and always required in expert applications.
Anyway, thanks for the tip. I noticed that keeping a number of panels ON slows down the performance so toggling between them ad-hoc might mitigate users frustration.
Again...fruit for thought.

Custom shortcut changes back to default BUG?

hi,
i created custom shortcuts for Flip Horizontal (⌥⌘H) and Flip Vertical (⌥⌘V).
(⌥⌘V) is used by default by Vanishing Point Filter.
I created also other custom shortcuts using other default assignments.
But only (⌥⌘V) gets back to the default assignment each time i start photoshop.
I need to open the "Keyboard Shortcuts" and just reselect my preset to have it back as i want.
this should be some kind of bug? it is quite annjoyng.

Seems to be working with photoshop cc 2014.2.2 on mac os x 10.10.1, so far.
I'd reset the photoshop preferences and see if that makes any difference.
Press and hold down the Shift+Command+Option keys just after starting the launch of photoshop
Keep holding the keys down until you get a dialog asking if you want to delete the adobe photoshop settings file
Press Yes

Allow 'control' key for custom shortcuts!

seems like a 'beyond no-brainer'... let user's use the control key for custom shortcuts.

Well, the Keyboard Shortcuts panel doesn’t show the warning triangle as shown for other conflicts. Shouldn't the panel reject such key combinations if they're not available? Instead it shows them as being OK. I would have thought it reasonable to use such key combinations in non-EMACS applications anyway. Also, why is it that other utilities make it possible to use them? Most odd. I'll just have to use other methods I suppose!

Custom shortcut to .vbs script has other .vbs files pinning to it as 'Recent' items (Windows 7)

More of a nuisance this, rather than a major problem, but one I'd like to take care of.
I have a split Access DB on a network drive, where the BE and a 'master' copy of the FE reside. I have multiple users, so for ease of distribution, I have a .bat file (also on the network) which I can distribute to each user when they want to start
using the DB. All the .bat file does is copy a shortcut to the users desktop and Start menu. The shortcut points to a .vbs file on the network.
The .vbs file checks the users local machine, creates some temporary folders if necessary, makes a local copy of the FE and launches it. All nice and neat, with a custom icon on the shortcut so my DB application looks quite professional, and is easy
to find and launch.
However - I noticed the other day that, if I open another .vbs file (completely unrelated to my DB), Windows automatically pins it to the 'Recent Items' list on my custom shortcut on the Start menu. Simply because it is another .vbs file. I don't want any
'Recent Items' to be associated with this shortcut; it should only ever point to my DB and nothing else. I am worried my users will get confused when this random list of scripts grows out of it.
Is there anything I can do to prevent this happening on the end users' machines? Bear in mind - I don't want to block
all 'Recent Items' on their Start Menus - just for this one custom shortcut?

Custom OS X Lion Wallpaper not rendering correctly

Upgraded to Lion on Wednesday July 20th (Final Release)
I have tried rebooting to correct the serious rendering issue that my iMac 27" (Late 2009) had with this custom wallpaper after upgrading to lion yesterday. Before upgrading snow leopard had no issue with this desktop wallpaper. After I changed back to the standard milkyway image that lion comes with only the first space in mission control shows the change the other 8 desktop spaces still show the seriould messed up desktop. Clearly this is a bug in the lion final release but I do not want to register as a developer to submit a bug report.

I just viewed your image above, then 'Right-Clicked' to get Contextual Menu and selected "Use Image as Desktop Picture', & it did so, instantly & beautifully... {Lion}
just on the one Desktop though, but I think you can change that in Settings anyway {different Backgrounds for each Desktop}

Login Screen, custom shortcut keys possible?

I'd like to create a keyboard shortcut to "lock the screen" (login screen). I read through the helpfile and it's not clear this is possible.
I'd like, for example to do Apple-L to get that to work.
Is this possible?

Based on your recommendation, I did some research on QuicKeys and also found another, similar program iKey (http://www.scriptsoftware.com/ikey/). I downloaded trial versions of both, and found iKey easier to manage. Plus it was cheaper ($30 versus 79.95). I was able to assign shortcut keys using modifiers (alt, cmd, ctl) and the keys that Apple won't let you assign via Keyboard preferences (home, end, forward delete, arrows). I even set up some customized menus or more complex actions (automate) with shortcut key triggers (e.g., creating a footer and inserting a file name and path in a word document with two keystrokes; opening itunes finding a radio station and begin streaming it live with two keystrokes). I'm sure that some of this can be done with automater or applescripts, but since I'm new to apple, I'm happy to start with this.
iKey does have one annoying feature that I discovered -- you can set keyboard shortcuts to operate in different contexts (e.g., Finder front, Safari not running) but you cannot use the same keyboard shortcut to launch different actions in mutually exclusive contexts.
By the way, I called Apple support about this question before I started playing with either of the programs. The person I talked to made a special call over to the OS X division and confirmed that forward delete cannot be assigned in user-defined keyboard shortcuts -- "yet." No one was clear if this capability might be developed in the future.

Can't install Apple Remote Desktop 3.5.1 custom installer on Lion 10.7.3

Ever since Lion 10.7.3 was released, I've not been able to install the custom client installer package that I've made with Apple Remote Desktop 3.5.1.
The error I get is "Remote Desktop Client Update can't be installed on this disk. A newer version of this package is already installed".
I'm guessing this is to do with Apple releasing the ARD 3.5.2 client, but not releasing a new server.
Is there any way of me tweaking the custom installer, so this can be installed? Or do I have have to wait for ARD server to be upgraded to 3.5.2? :-|

I was able to download the ARD 3.5.2 Client and take the customisations from the generated custom client installer.
To do this you need to expand the Custom Installer to a directory somewhere (in this example I'll expand it to a directory on the desktop)
pkgutil --expand CustomClientInstaller.pkg ~/Desktop/CustomClientInstaller
Inside the expanded package, there are 3 files which are appended with "_entries" which seem to contain the customisations that are specified during the package generation process. So, we need to copy these to a temporary location...
cp ~/Desktop/CustomClientInstaller/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg/Scripts/Tools/*_entries ~/Desktop
Now, what we need to do is expand the ARD Client we just downloaded (3.5.2) and apply the customisations to it...
pkgutil --expand RemoteDesktopClient.pkg ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient
cp ~/Desktop/*_entries ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg/Scripts/Tools
pkgutil --flatten ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient CustomRemoteDesktopClient.pkg
You should now have an up-to-date customised ARD client. Note that I have not fully tested all of the options, such as creating users. It may be necessary to look at this post if the newly customised ARD client has problems creating a new user.

How can I copy the .lnk file to desktop of all Windows 7 users, I have placed the .ico file in the shared network folder.

There are a number of ways, but basically you can just create a shortcut on
your desktop to upload to the server or to a shared location, then copy that
..lnk file down to the folder "${CommonDesktop}" on the workstations.

Deleting custom shortcuts

In my HP B209a Photosmart printer, CD305A, in “Settings“, “Printer Settings”, “Features”, “Size” drop down menu, under “More”, there are many original fixed sizes to chose from. There are also many additional custom sizes I have made and named.
Question: How can I delete or eliminate these duplicate or unnecessary custom sizes I’ve made. Can’t seem to figure that out. Thanks, Carl O

Two & 1/2 days... found my own answer. In "Features", "Size" dropdown, in "More", highlight shortcut, then in "Custom", it is available to "Delete". Simple to do, hard to figure out, and no HP info available ANYWHERE on how to eliminate MANY unused/un-necessary shortcuts! Carl O.
