Custom sidebars in Wiki server

Apple's Wiki Server and Podcast Producer are one of the best if not the best product for serving podcasts BUT this application fails in certain areas that easily puts customers off considering that companies will always vie for a Pc solution.
My major issue with the Wiki server is the custom sidebar addition. Now this should so simple to add but if you try and add a custom sidebar following apples help directives below
Adding a sidebar to the home page
The home page of your wiki automatically displays items that are tagged "hot" in a sidebar, so that users will be more apt to notice them. If you're the site owner, you can add another sidebar that spotlights items tagged with another tag of your choosing.
*To add a custom sidebar:*
*Open your site's homepage and then click the Edit (pencil) button.*
*Click the Groups Settings button.*
*Click Sidebar and enter the tag that will be used to identify items to appear in the sidebar, such as "projectX."*
*Enter a title for sidebar, such as "Project X News," then click OK.*
*Click "save" in the toolbar to save your changes.*
*The five most recent Items tagged with the tag you specified will automatically appear in the sidebar.*
First the edit pencil in the home page does not provide one the capability to edit the custom sidebar settings but the actual appearance of the page such as the text and placement of media etc.
The custom sidebar settings can only be accessed via the Admin Functions/ settings/ even then you can add a single custom side bar and when you try to add another you will find that the details of the last custom sidebar is still in place. If you delete that information and add new information this will delete the previous custom sidebar creating a new one. Now this is such an annoying issue that Apple needs to resolve ASAP as some of us are trying to sell this product for it's other benefits.
Another area that it fails at is the display of items. Currently the maximum number of items displayable is 5. To increase this requires messing about with theme files and plist files! Now this should also be a simple feature that should exist in the Admin Functions settings area. Unless I am missing something then someone should enlighten me as to the mystery of these settings. I hope Snow leopard will have all these basic issues ironed out.

by "custom fields" i mean some additional fields. e.g i want a clerk to mail a minute sheet along with remarks of clerk, to an officer. now i have put some fields e.g clerk's name, type of mail (minute sheet etc), officer's name etc on the email form (i have designed that form in java and using javamail api to send/receive mails). while sending this email, clerk fills those fields and mail it to the officer. now depending upon the type of mail (if its a minute sheet or whatever), that mail should be opened in the appropriate form designed for that type of mail, showing all those additional fields, e.g clerk's name in clerk's name label, officer's name in officer's name label etc. is it possible that i can tel exchange server to store the information about those custom fields while storing the mail so that i can retrieve those fields later. hope u got my point.thanks

  • Lion Wiki Server - Custom sidebar will not save

I have migrated a 10.6 Server installation with a fairly large wiki over to 10.7 Server.  The upgrade seemed to go smoothly, however I have found that I cannot add a new custom sidebar.  It allows me to click the button to create a new one, enter the Label and the Tag, but when I click "Save", it drops me back to the General section of the wiki and the custom sidebar was not saved.
I've seen other mentions of this issue, but the solutions did not solve the issue.  I have 4 total wikis and it affects all of them.  I also created a new wiki and the issue persists.  Erasing and starting over is not an option for me at this point.
My Lion Server is bound to an OD Master and all the permissions seem to be fine.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Ok, I made it happen!  Here is what I did:
    DELETED com.apple.net.racoon entry from Keychain
    DELETED /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.RemoteAccessServers.plist
    DELETED /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.ppp.l2tp.plist
In Server.app, turned off VPN Service with the big ON/OFF button
    Rebooted computer
In Server.app, inputed the settings and switched to ON
The settings stayed on, the shared secret did not disappear and I was able to connect to the VPN from outside my network.
    Sweet!

  • Wiki Server Custom templates

    Hi All
We are currently looking to move more of our internal processes across the the Wiki. I was wondering is there a way to create custom wiki page templates? I don't mean to customise the apple supplied ones (they are fine) but to create templates for Meeting minutes, Customer call logs (In a a customer blog) that all have the same format? Or ultimately an entire project pre-build that we could deploy when a new project kicked off.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    Alex

For Snow Leopard 10.6 the Extending Your Wiki Server content was merged into the Wiki Server Admin manual (http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/WikiServer_Adminv10.6.pdf)
To create custom templates, you need to create custom XSL (which could break the wiki if the Apple defaults get updated), and Javascript (though I don't see why we should create custom nodes directly in the DOM just to make a series of pages.
CSS only affects the styling of the blocks.

  • Can I use Wiki Server with a custom build of Apache?

Hi there. For various reasons, I may need to roll my own build of Apache, PHP, and some other web technologies. What I'm hoping to do is use Wiki Server for the collaborative part of our site, but I don't know if it can be set up to run with an Apache build other than the one that comes with Leopard.
Can this be done? If so, how?

That could work, I suppose. I take it it's not possible to configure the Wiki Server to work with a different build of Apache?
I'd just as soon not run two Apache instances on our new system; that's what we're doing now, on our Tiger server, and it's a bit inconvenient to have two sets of web configuration settings to worry about.
If possible, I'd like to use the Wiki server with a custom Apache build. (I need to rebuild PHP, you see...)

  • WIKI Custom Sidebar Issues

Ok, so I have been able to add a custom sidebar, but I am encountering 2 issues that currently make it unusable.
    1) The new sidebar will populate with the 5 most recent entries upon login, however, almost immediately, it shrinks and shows only the heading of the sidebar. I am assuming that this is a CSS issue, however I am not sure as to which style sheet to modify nor which parameter.
    2) I am trying to find the correct coding to include a boolean request on the tags for the custom sidebar, in that I want it to exclude certain tags, i.e. "completed". This way once a task has been completed it will no longer show up in the sidebar.
Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Here's my restatement of the problem:
How does one go about modifying the standard calendar sidebar to change the number of days looking forward? The standard according to the Administrative Guide is 5 days but I'd like 14 or perhaps 30.

  • Wiki server templates

does anyone know a company that sells wiki server compatible templates ? I dont mind paying a small fee but I would really like a few more templates without digging into CSS - really not my cup of tea

  • Wiki - "Server starting up"

I have a mac mini server, early 2010. I have had it running for a few weeks, and I restarted it today and it wouldn't reboot. I had to start in single user mode and change root permissions, somehow the DNShost had got changed which caused havoc. I fixed the DNS so it is working, and I have my websites back up and running, (also the changeip -checkhostname looks good) but now the Wiki Server does not seam to run.
When I try to connect to any of the wikis I have, I just get a screen that shows the progress wheel and text "Server starting up..."
I have no idea what could have changed or what could be wrong. I can see the group folder for the wiki and all the files are still there. I have tried to stop and start teams from command prompt and that seems to have no effect.
Also as a side note in case it matters, I cant seem to disable php. When I uncheck it in Server Admin, when I click save, it just re enables with a check... not sure why.
I could only find one post about the Wiki Server stating up problem
(http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2365263&tstart=1") but there was no solution?
Anyone have any ideas where to even begin looking. I tried the manual, but I cant seem to find it referencing this issue.

There are two ways to assign the owner and group to the Collaboration folder and its contents:
    1. Run the command "sudo chown -R teamserver:teamserver /path/to/Collaboration" on the server.
    2. In Server Admin -> server name in the sidebar -> File Sharing -> navigate to the Collaboration folder -> Permissions tab under the browser, you can double-click on the owner and group listed in the POSIX section and it'll let you type in new User and Group names. Then Save, then select Propagate Permissions from the action (gear icon) menu under the permissions, and choose to propagate the owner and group names (but none of the other options).

  • How to disable or set manually Wiki server 3 documents previews?

    Hallo,
when a doc is uploaded to wiki server 3 the server rebuilds the file preview every time the page reloads. For big files is a mess... is it possibile to disable file preview or, even better, find a way to upload custom previews? Or, at least, to disable the refresh of the preview every time the page loads?
    thanks

Reloading of previews is a bug that has been fixed for an upcoming update.  Stay tuned.

  • Guide to Wiki Server 3?

I've tried to find information on what Wiki Server 3 (WS3) can actually do. It would be the only reason for me to upgrade to Lion Server. I'm trying to make the decision of going with MediaWiki, or WS3, and while I'm quite sure that WS3 will be easier to install and setup, I can't seem to find any information on how it is to use or manage, so I can make sure it fits my needs?
Can anyone provide me with links?
I will only use it for private information at first, limited to two users, and then later open it up for more. It should also be capable to run two different seperate instances, so I can have two seperate wikis. I have no experience in either Ruby on rails, or PHP/mySQL, so I'm also looking for the easiest solution to maintain (Although I'm absolutely not afraid of reading up on stuff - I just prefer not to have to learn a new language or two, just for a wiki, if possible).

If you want to run wikis for a couple users the Lion wiki server is easy to use and you can establish several wiki pages.  We've been using Wikis on our home Mac Mini Server for a couple years and hvae several wikis to assign different permissions - one the kids can write, one the kids are just read-only...  They've been quite helpful.  And maintaining them if carefree - I've had NO problems.  And if by maintaining you meant publishing content, that's fine too (although not completely flexible).
Having upgraded from 10.6 to 10.7 this fall, I will say that I preferred the 10.6 Snow Leopard Wiki over the new implementation, for example it offered several templates for customizing the Wiki look, editing CSS.., but those are gone now. Oh well, progress???
Regarding manuals for Lion Server I've only seen the online manauls.  Snow Leopard Server had a much more comprehensive set of manuals so you may learn more about the wiki reading them than anything available for Lion (of course Lion and SL have many differences  http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/WikiServerAdmin_v10.6.pdf
If you haven't run Mac Server before, there will probably be some learning curve pain involved, but we find it useful to run as a File Server (files, music, photos, videos), Time Machine Backup Server, WIki Server Mail Server, Mobile Home Accounts, and we'll even log directly into the server and use it as a desktop (but there are some tricks for using an account both locally and over the network).  If you have some of these broader needs consider implementing Mac Server.  If you just ned the wiki, implementing another wiki product may offer

  • Wiki Server 3: What is API URL for AtomPub/MetaWeblog?

Previously (OS X Server 10.6), AtomPub/MetaWeblog editors could connect to Wiki Server using the API access point http://example.com/RPC2 (Command Line, Ecto/Marsedit)
Now (OS X Server 10.7), attempts to hit /RPC2 are resulting in a 404 response. I've so far been unable to track down where the API access point has moved to, and didn't have any luck flailing around at other likely candidates (thanks, ecto list of common XML-RPC endpoints!)
Does anyone know where Lion Server puts the XML-RPC access point?

  • Wiki Server Favicon?

Does anyone know how to set a Favicon to a specific Wiki in Apple's Wiki Server?  I have about 5 Wiki's and I'd like to have a different Favicon for each one.  Where do I save the Favicon file?  If you are only limited to one Favicon for the entire server, where would I put the Favicon file?
    Thanks for your help!

    OK I've figured out...
Basically, what's written in Extending_Your_Wiki_Server.pdf applies to this particular subject.
Therefore, as written at the bottom of page 27 and after, you copy all the .xsl files from /usr/share/wikid/lib/apple_templates to your chosen wiki theme folder (located inside /Library/Application Support/Apple/WikiServer/Themes/), then edit default.xsl that you copied to specify the custom favicon.
(You may place your custom favicon file inside /Library/WebServer/Documents/ .)
    Some caveats:
You have to copy all the .xsl files, not only default.xsl.
You have to change the xsl:include paths in every .xsl files you copied so that they point to the new .xls files in the Themes folder.
The obove paths to the Themes folder porbably include Application Support, which you must write Application%20Support in order to make it work properly.
You have to restart the web service so that the modifications take effect.
And in order to have different favicons for each wiki site you have to make different wiki theme for each one and repeat the same thing.

  • How do I increase attachment file size in Wiki Server 3?

I have just setup Wiki Server 3 on Lion - Got it working.  I am using it for a community Video Library and manu of the files are between 1 to 3 gb.  I was able to attach video files as large at 500MB, but no larger.  I found a few poists discussing updates to the wikid.conf file for MaxAttachment.  That file exists on my machine - but it looks like it is leftover from Snow LEopard Server.
Is there a way to increase the maximum allowable attachment - or do I need to revert back to Snow Leopard Server... I am a novice in the Networking and Server world and had trouble setting up Snow Leopard Server in the past.
    Thanks

It might be something in the Apache config, but I don't know what. The first thing I'd try is to transfer a test file onto the wiki server host by some other means (AFP, SFTP), then open a web browser on the wiki host and connect to the wiki (i.e. connect to itself). Then try to upload the file. This will eliminate all external sources of interference. If you still cannot upload 1GB+ files, try a different browser. If it still doesn't work, the limitation must be in Apache or the Wiki code somewhere else.

  • Can't Host a Wiki Server's calendar using Server 10.8

I have setup server and attempted to have one of my calendars on iCal sync with the Wiki calendar
I have a user called bernard
I have a calendar in ical called bernardtraining
In the Wiki the user bernard has a calendar but I cant get ical to sync with the Wiki.
    In iCal Accounts
I set up an account in ical lets call it server.myserver.private (hiding actual name)
    user name = bernard
password is set to user password
    Refresh 5 minutes
    In Server Settings iCal Accounts
    Server address server.myserver.private
server path aut populates to /principals/__uids__/7A7D303D-8265-47D5-BAD1-01E3DDD4CC37/  (maybe this is the problem)
    Port = auto
    SSL = No (for now)
    No delgates
I then went through this process.....
When you set up iCal Server to provide the calendar service for a wiki, Wiki Server provides access to the calendars, so users who do not have wiki privileges do not have calendar service.
Use serveradmin via the Terminal app to change the setting.sudo serveradmin set calendar:Authentication:Wiki:Enabled = "<setting>" The default value for <setting> is “no”.
The other possible value is “yes.”
    Command example:
sudo serveradmin set calendar:Authentication:Wiki:Enabled = "yes"
Use serveradmin via the Terminal app to designate the Wiki server.sudo serveradmin set calendar:Authentication:Wiki:Hostname = "<DNSWikiServer>" The default value for <DNSWikiServer> is the Wiki server’s fully qualified domain name.
    Command example:
    sudo serveradmin set calendar:Authentication:Wiki:Hostname = "wikiweb.example.com"
Use serveradmin via the Terminal app to encrypt the connection.sudo serveradmin set set calendar:Authentication:Wiki:UseSSL = "(yes|no)" The default value is “no”.
    Command example:
sudo serveradmin set set calendar:Authentication:Wiki:UseSSL = "yes"
    Still no success.
    Can anyone help?

I did, and had it working last night. It won't now, though.
I don't understand port triggering, and when I attempted to look up the help files on the linksys site, they told me to register first - then they wouldn't let me fill in the email address section of the registration, so..
I don't use a firewall, and this computer I'm trying to host the server on is directly connected to the router. The wireless connection is with a laptop upstairs. I just checked, and my IP changed, but fixing that in Port Forwarding still does nothing. I can host the server... It just doesn't show up on gamespy.
Just about everywhere I read up on this, it mentions having to have a static IP address. I went through the guides that tell how to go about getting one set up, but still doesn't work. I don't have anything even remotely mentioning linksys in Network Connections though - that's on the laptop. Could this be the problem?
Another problem I ran into when setting up the router, was I'd get an error unpacking languages, or something. Got it every time, but it let me move on after closing the error so didn't think much of it.

  • How to upload data in a custom table in quality server

    Hi All,
I want to upload data in custom table in quality server.
I forgot to tranfer TMG into QA. I also don't send any upload program to QA.
Is there any way to upload data directly to table in quality server i.e. by use of debugging.
    Regards,
    Narendra

    Hi Narendra,
As suggested by Jorge you can create data through T-code SM30 (for this you need to have table maintainence generator in development) and get it tranported to Quality and production and maintain the data through it or else to can create a request for data creation through SM30 in development and get it transported to quality and production.
    Thanks,

  • Wiki Server Will Not Start After Installing Safari 4.0.5

    *PLEASE HELP*
We have a production server running MacOS X Server 10.5.8 with all software updates installed.
Wiki server refuses to launch, though launchd tries to open it every 10 seconds.
When visiting www.domain.com/groups/community we see an error 503 in the web browser
    *Steps Taken to Correct*
    % sudo chown -R 94:94 /Library/Collaboration
% serveradmin stop teams && serveradmin start teams
    Restarted the machine itself
    % cd /Library/Collaboration && find . -name '*.plist' -exec xmlwf {} \;
*Those steps proving ineffective, we're now just trying to start over. We've removed all user generated content from the wiki directories and we just want the wiki server to launch successfully.*
Removed "groups" and "users" directories from /Library/Collaboration
    Replaced /etc/wikid/wikid.conf with /etc/wikid/wikid.conf.default
    Deleted /Library/Application Support/Apple/WikiServer/directoryIndex.db
    Deleted /Library/Application Support/Apple/WikiServer/User Preferences/* (all user preferences)
WHAT AM I DO WRONG? HOW CAN I GET A FRESH WIKI INSTALL WITHOUT REINSTALLING THE OS? This is a production server. We'll have to go without wikis rather than introduce downtime. Thank you.
