Custom Sizes for processing images

I am used to using Dr.Brown's Image Processor,
You simply request a size of image you want
from your RAW files and voila there it is. It seems
there are only canned sizes that I can process an
image to from my RAW files. Is this true or am I
missing the obvious (like usual)?
Peter

That's really a bummer, Imagine a 20000 images per year you want processed from
RAW directly to a 1280x1280 jpeg (because your editor insists) for preview,
Has anyone tried using Dr. Brown's Image processor for CS2,
Chris Cox, will Dr. Brown have java script for this purpose soon?

  • Solutions for processing images in LR, then printing as cards through ID?

    Hello,
Might anyone have experience with processing photographs in LR CC, then printing from ID CC through an inkjet printer? I thought it wouldn't be such a big deal, but am finding my colors are not holding true. What I see in Lightroom is nice on screen and if I print a single card through LR it looks nice. Export the same image as a tif or jpg and print it on the same paper stock through InDesign and the image is not correct. I am selecting the same color profile for the paper stock in each program. Somewhere I am overlooking a detail or two that really matters. Might anyone have a short list of items I must coordinate or synchronize between the two applications?

Re: Preference for Processing RAW in LR or PS Camera Raw
In any event even if you choose to edit the original in PS, as I believe you should be able to do you will still end up with a Tiff, PSD or jpeg file when you have finished your work in PS. Then why are you using Lightroom? This will have a bearing on the advice you will get.
Like I said above, LR and PS both serve specific functions, and yes they do overlap in some areas, and I yes do use both in my workflow.  PS isn't a cataloging program.  LR doens't have layers and sucks at complex editing tasks.  There's 2 reasons i use both, amoung many many others.
The point of my question is that i don't want LR creating and saving PSD files on my hard drive when i don't need a PSD of that specific photo.  You use to be able to make LR open a raw file in PS and use ACR to processs it.  That meant you could close the raw file in Photoshop, and nowhere along the way was a PSD file, or any other file saved.

  • Image size for LOCAL images

Is there still a size limit for the ZMG file for local images (not network
installations)? I have a ZMG that is 2.17g that works fine using the
network but I get the error message "end of archive" when using a dvd with
that same image. I found several messages from last year that indicate
that the zmg can not be greater than 2 gig for local installations. Is
that still true? I am going to have to span my media?

  • Most Practical Size For Multiple Images on Slideshows

    Dear All,
I'm creating a DVD that contains thousands of images on as slideshows. I've imported only a few hundred images and already Encore seems to be struggling with the file size of these pictures. I have lots of memory on my computer so I'm guessing I need to batch re-size all of my photos before importing them into the programme.
Can anyone tell me a typical file size for images if I were to be using alot of them. A file size so that I don't loose any of the quality and that won't slow down the project too much?
    Kind Regards,
    Jonny

Your images need to be 720x480 for NTSC or 720x576 for PAL, but that is with non-square pixels. They will be encoded to MPEG I-frames (similar to JPEG compression) by Encore.
Since most images are created with square pixels, you should resize to 720x534 for NTSC or 768x576 for PAL. The dpi is insignificant as it is the pixel dimensions that are important. Set it to 72 dpi for ease of viewing on the computer. If you save in an uncompressed image format such as bitmap, each image will be a little bit over 1 MB. If you save as JPEGs, they will be significantly smaller. If you do choose JPEG, make sure to set the quality high enough so that your images don't look degraded.
Edit: This is of course assuming that your images are in the 4:3 aspect ratio. If they are not, just use the dimensions I gave as an upper limit and Encore will frame the picture in black.

  • Script to "Reset size" for all images in a RoboHelp project

New UI. Quick fix to pull new screenshots is hampered by the size constraints of graphics.
Is there a (third party or built in) script that will reset size for all the images in a RoboHelp HTML project?
    RH8, RoboHelpHTML bulished as WebHelp.
PS the filter in Adobe Forums doesn't allow me to limit the search to RoboHelp HTML and WebHelp; I don't have any other Adobe products, so all the hits don't apply.

    Thanks for this script!
What needs to be done to convert a .jsx into an .exe executable that I can add to the RH Toolbox (pod) and run it in a project on my terms, rather than import into the project so it runs (whenever I compile?)
What is the ReSize tool for that already exists in the toolbox?

  • Custom size for DeskJet 710C

    Hi,
I'm trying to set custom dimensions for the paper size for my DeskJet 710C.
I see from this link that I should be able to do it however when I view the different paper sizes in the list there is no option to select Custom Size.
The layout of the driver dialog is also different from the documentation but the driver is certainly for the 710C installed via Windows.
Should I be looking for an update. Can anybody help?
    Many Thanks
    Dan

What operating system are you using? In Vista (and perhaps XP?) you could do the following:  go to the Printers folder and right click on a blank spot.  Select "Run as Administrator", then "Server Properties".  When the UAC prompt comes up click Continue.  Next click the "Create a new form" checkbox, then select a name and appropriate size for the form.  Next select Save Form, Close.
Next open the printer properties for the Deskjet 710c, the new form you defined previously should now be available.  (You may need to restart the computer to have the new form show up.)

  • What is the suggested pixel sizes for audiobook images?

I know album art is 600 x 600 for music. Does the audiobook format use these same dimensions? Or more of a rectangle size instead of perfect square?
    Thanks!

Are you creating the artwork or getting it from the Internet? If you're downloading it, there's not much consistency in format. Some publishers size the art as if it came from a paperback book cover, others size for CD jewel cases. The more recent stuff is 600x600.

  • Image size for still images

I've got a bunch of 300DPI 8x10 inch images I want to put into iMovie.
Do I need to reduce file size or will iMovie reduce the size automaticlly?

  • I can't to make custom size for PageMaker publication

Please, give me a piece of advice.
I need to make up a book with size 140 mm/205 mm.
But when I put in these settings in PageMaker 7.01, the programm resets them and put in others on default. I arrange the book for printer ScitexDolev 4.0.
So how can I deside this problem?
    Thank you.

What a surprise to see this subject.  I was about to post the same thing. I am trying to print on custom DVD cover paper, 1/2 margins with perferations. I set it all up and the program prints too far to the left and too far down, missing the set margins, 1/2 inch all around,  and the pereferations. Let's hope someone can help us out. I have been trying to solve this for quite a while. My work around is print on legal paper and trim.
I have done all kinds of fliers and brochures and never has this problem until I got into custom page size.
    Pagemaker 7.0

  • Photo resolution/size for Calendar images?

I have a small photo (4" x 3.293" @ 150 ppi) that I'd like to use in my calendar. When I drag it onto the calendar page, it seems that it's being enlarged and then I get the dreaded yellow exclamation point thingy telling me it may not print out well. I do not have the "Fit Photo to Frame Size" checked. I guess I'd like to know 2 things.
    1. Can't I use a small photo like this without it being enlarged?
    2. Is there a particular resolution/ppi that's recommended for my photos to print out well?
    Thank you!

Not that I have found - photos are fit to the frame - and frame sizes are not adjustable - so unless you can find a layout with a smaller frame you have what you have
    2. Is there a particular resolution/ppi that's recommended for my photos to print out well?
The warning comes on below 180 dpi (ppi) - but people have printed photos with warnings and been ok with them - it would be better to have a higher resolution photo but for me anyway the subject is what is important and if the technical quality is not perfect, the subject is still there - last year I included a couple of small 72 ppi photos I downloaded from the web of our son in a 4.5 x 5 frame and while you certainly can see that the resolution of the two photos is not great - the calendar page is great
Preview your calendar before sending it - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and set your expectations reasonably and you should be ok if the photos are not really big in the calendar - up to 4 x 3 I doubt that you will see any difference

  • Custom size for MPEG-1 files?

Hey everyone, I'm aware that compressor does not allow you to change the output size of a mpeg-1 file (it's locked at 320x240). However, does anyone know if there are plug-ins available that will allow you to do so? If not, can anyone recommend a good software package that will allow me to change the output size of an mpeg-1 file? Thanks!

I have used Compressor to make an mpeg-1 video that is 640 x 480 and looks great (for mpeg-1). I use this for clients that use trial presentation software to show video depositions. Just go into you 'Library' folder in your home folder and open the Compressor folder in 'Application Support'. Look for the DVD/MPEG-1 folder and open it up. Inside there is a Compressor preset document 'MPEG-1 DVD'. Duplicate this document and give it a unique name like 'MPEG-1 640X480' and then proceed to open this doc with TextEdit. About halfway down, look for the video settings 320 x 240 and change them to read 640 x 480 and save and quit. Launch Compressor from FCP. Once you've imported or selected your project that you will be using with Compressor, you can click on the setting button that reveals the pop-up settings and the preset that you created should be listed at the bottom of the preset list. Select this preset and away you go. Good luck.

  • How can I make Preview open to actual size for all images?

In Snow Leopard, Preview open all images actual size. In Mountain Lion, vertical images (and all images larger than the screen) fit to the screen and I have to use the keyboard command to see actual size. What happened, and is there any way to fix this?

Open a PDF in Preview. Now, right-click on the toolbar and select Customize Toolbar ...
Drag the circled items from the customize panel to your toolbar and release there.
Click the middle button in the Zoom panel. The Scale will report 100%.
Your future Preview documents will open at 100% now.

  • Lightroom 1.4.1:  Reducing File/Image Size for Web/E-Mail

This should be a simple thing.
I need to reduce my file size to upload it into various things on the web and e-mail and what not.  Sometimes it asks for a specific size.
Right now, I'm using the Export function to do this, which means I have to reset the Image Settings each time in order to get to the size required.
Isn't there and easier way to do this, like just type in the image size you want and have the program reset the image proportionately?
Is there a ratio chart for this, like 1000 x 1400 = # of bytes?
This is a function used all the time--I can't believe it's this cumbersome.

    (a)     How do I know I am selecting the correct pixel size for e-mail?  Just keep hunting and pecking until I find the right mix or is there a number combination that works consistently?  And if the latter is correct, what is that number combination.
I just can't believe that reducing the MP size to get it in shape for an e-mail "thumbprint" photo is this tough.  Even with the 'preset', I'd have to set up a preset for every picture because they vary by MP and the scaling seems to change.
There is no "standard" size for sending images via email. Just make it small. There is a save for email preset in recent releases of Lr. You can download the demo and see what that entails.
You don't have to create a preset for each picture. I don't know what you would say that. Yes, the amount it compress varies with the information in the image, but this has always been the case with JPEGs. You don't have to make an image that is exactly some size. You just have to make it small enough for most MTAs and MUAs to handle. Since there is no real standard for this, just make it small enough for you.
Something like 800px on the longest side, 70-80% quality should do it to find the JPEG compression sweet-spot.

  • Custom page sizes for Photosmart 6515

Just unpacked a Photosmart 6515. Running on old xp desktop computer.
My main item I print is 5.5"x8" but the custom option is grayed out. went to properties through the main printers/faxes set up and no option there either to set up custom sizes.
Is there seriously no option to print custom sizes? im not asking for boarderless. and all other hps I have had have always let me easliy set up this size.
Down to the wire for Christmas, don't want to have to return it and start over.
    Please Help
    -Frustrated

I was able to fool the printer by changing my paper size for the document to an A4 (actual size is 5.8" x 8.3").  Did some test printing on a scrap cut to 5.5 x 8.5 to see how it printed.  Tweeked the layout a little and got it to do what I wanted.  Would probably work for your 5.5 x 8 as long as you are not printing edge to edge.
Hope this helps.  I've NEVER had a printer that did not allow a custom size.  NOT HAPPY about the lack of feature.  If anyone can tell me how to put in a custom size for this printer model, PLEASE POST IT!
    Merry Christmas!

  • What size must an image be for iMovie?

    Hi Apple Community
Am wanting to add some stills to an iMovie production.
What is the ideal size for these images in pixels?
    Kind Regards
    Chris

video nowadays comes in two resolutions:
    1280x720
    1920x1080
If you plan to do excessive Ken Burns, for sure more (then you can pan along a whole coastline, for example)
and before anybody asks: NO, for video, the dpi is of no use! a 1920x1080 in 72dpi has the same quality than a 1000dpi or a 5dpi pic.
Much more important is the grade-of-compression ... a 20MioPixel pic,, squeezed into a 12.3kB jpg looks after done into 'video' terrible... (key word banding) ....
