Custom Sort for nodes in a hierarchy

Hi All,
I would like to know how to sort nodes according to a specific order in a hierarchy. I know at the hierarchy level you can set the StandardHierSort property to a custom property i.e CustSortOrder.
But for the custom property CustSortOrder, how do i set it up so the nodes in the hierarchy will be sorted according to the custom list?

This is right out of the MDM_User_guide (Look under Custom Sort Order)
Custom Sort Order
Nodes can also be sorted in any explicit custom sort order (although limbs are always sorted
ahead of leaves.) The sort order can be defined by any property that has a property data type of
SortOrder. (The SortOrder data type is special case of an Integer data type.) By default, any
Hyperion MDM installation includes a property called Sort Order (assigned to the Default
property category) that can be used for this purpose.
To sort a hierarchy according to the value of a node-level sort order property, the hierarchylevel
property StandardHierSort must have its value set to point to the appropriate node-level
property that contains the sort order.
A custom sort order can also be used that applies only to a specific Hyperion MDM user ID,
enabling users to customize their display of Hyperion MDM data without impacting other users
of the same hierarchy. This is controlled by the hierarchy-level property UserHierSort. If this
property has been set to point to a node-level property that has a data type of Sort Order, then
this sort order takes precedence over both the StandardHierSort property and the default sort
order.
If there is no value assigned to the hierarchy-level property StandardHierSort nor to
UserHierSort, then the default sort order is applied.
The value of a custom sort order property can be set in any of the following ways:
1.Sort order values can be loaded into a node-level sort order property when data is initially
imported into Hyperion MDM (see following for details.)
2. Explicit values can be defined for the sort order property for any node.
If a sort order property has been selected for a hierarchy’s StandardHierSort or UserHierSort
properties, then the Order Children menu option is available by right-clicking on any node
in a hierarchy. This opens a dialog box that enables the sort order of limbs and leaves to be
set graphically.
3. A node-level sort order property might be defined as Derived, and so might be automatically
populated with a sort order.

...and a few people in the comments seemed to have the same problem as you, which seems to be a bug (clicking the ellipsis does not launch the custom values screen).
Perhaps you could try the solution offered by Gallin, which was to create a second input control, then retry the steps to create another input control and click the ellipsis to enter custom values.

Custom sorting for a Table column

I have a Table object with multiple columns. The first is an alphanumeric unique identifier that is usually utilized by clients as String representations of integers. When a client does use integers, the sorting is completely off. Here is a sample list of how Studio Creator sorts this data:

9I obviously would like 10, 11, and 12 to come after 9. One way I could do this is to sort the values after they have been left-padded with zeros; however, I don't know how to implement this. I created a small class that implements Comparator in a way that will left-pad all Strings up to a max of 25 characters long, and then sorts them.
How can I have Studio Creator sort like I want it to? Thanks.

Solved.
I continued down the path of the object that implements Comparator and left-pads all values with zeros up to a total length of 25; I also sorted alphanumeric characters after numeric characters. I overwrote .compare(), .equals(), and .toString(). The issue was that I had to create a custom Converter for the TextField to be able to write updates to it.

Customized Sort for Cross-Tab Row

I have a simple Cross-Tab on my report that needs to be sorted in a static Row order.
My cross tab has 1 Row (Name) and 1 column (Total Sales).
Currently the CrossTab sorts the Name Alphabetically (ASC). But I need to specify a specific order. I have added a numeric field to my table and I assign a numeric value to the last names so that I might be able to sort the Name Row based on my "CustomSortOrder" numeric field.
Currently it looks something like this:

C
D
E
I want it to be: (numeric value behind the scenes)
C (1)
D (2)
E (3)
A (4)
B (5)
ALL OTHERS (9999)
I cant seem to figure out where I need to set this. I have tried adding a group to the report. I have tried setting the Report Sort order. I am out of ideas.

Here's what you need to do :
1) Go to the Crosstab Expert > Remove the existing 'name' field from the 'Row'
3) Add the numeric field as the 'Row'
4) Select the Row > Group Options > Options Tab > Customize Group Name Field > Use formula as a Group Name > Click the formula button beside and use this code:
If {numeric_field} = 9999 then "All Others"

Sorting for ALV hierarchy

Hi Experts,
I want sorting and subtotal on the item level in hierarchial alv. The report which iam using, when sorted on item level on hierarchy level, given a message like....subtotal not possible for item level field.
Is it possible to hve sort and subtotal on hierarchy alv..if so..could you tell me how?

Custom sorting within "for-each-group:current-group"

Hi, I need some help in doing a custom sort within a "for-each-group:current-group". My formatting is in a table format but I'm not sure how to post a table here so I'm just arranging the column details out as it would look in a table. I have a column on the left for the YEAR and a second column on the right for the DESCR. Under the DESCR column I've inserted a nested table with four columns: SUBJECT, CATALOG_NBR, DESCR250 and GRADE.
COLUMN 1:

The DESCR values are below and I'm trying to sort them in the following order.
STATUS
SUMMER SEMESTER
FIRST SEMESTER
AUTUMN SEMESTER
WINTER SEMESTER
SECOND SEMESTER
SPRING SEMESTER
Because I need them in the above order, I can't use ascending or descending, and instead need to use a custom sort order. Do you know how I can go about creating a custom sort order?

Hierarchy Constraints for Node Properties in DRM 11.1.2.3

Hi,
The DRM documentation talks about a new feature "Hierarchy constraints". It is accompanied with the following text -
"Hierarchy constraints can limit the hierarchies and nodes available for viewing and selection when updating a node data type property value.
The hierarchy constraint feature uses hierarchy groups and hierarchy group properties, which must be configured before you can assign hierarchy constraints."
I am trying to create a derived property which would list nodes from another hierarchy. However, there is a constraint that only level 3 nodes should be displayed instead of all the 7 levels preesent in the hierarchy,
Is it possible to use this feature for this purpose.

You mentioned that constraints can be used to limit user entry.
I believe I am looking for something similar.
Scenario:
User drills down Hierarchy 1 and selects Node ABC.
For that node, he looks at the property tab and selects Property X.
This property X should let him select nodes from another hierarchy - hierarchy 2.
Now, the user should only be limited to picking up a node thats a level 3 node. So if Hierarchy 2 has 100 nodes in total out of which 20 are level 3 nodes, then the user should only be able to see those 20 nodes when he click on the selection [...] button for property ABC.
Is this something that Hierarchy constraints can help me with?

Custom Sort of Duplicated row walues in Webi based on SAP BW Universe

It is a duplicate thread i have already posted in Integration kits - SAP section.
This is regarding custom sorting of row value which are duplicated in Webi which is based on SAP BW Universe.
I have created Webi Report based on Characteristic structure. Using Alerter I provide some space for child node to notify it as child node below a parent node.
Please see a sample table below:
AAAA
onpeak
midpeak
offpeak
BBBB
onpeak
midpeak
offpeak.
If I enable Avoid duplicate row aggregation, i will be able to see duplicate rows for "onpeak" etc. Since Webi does a default sorting, I have to make a custom sort to replicate the structure followed. And in custom sort i dont see duplicated rows, and i see only one "onpeak". Accordingly if I try to sort using custom sort, then the result will be
AAAA
onpeak
onpeak
midpeak
midpeak
offpeak
offpeak
BBBB.
Please let me know if anyone has any solution for this.
I have already created report with modifying the row names in backend by adding letter before its value for example "1offpeak" for the duplicated row and then removing the letter "1" in webi using substring. But i know this is the crude way of doing it.

I have changed the naming convention in BI structure by introducing a white space before the name to avoid duplication and used it in report. Not a good solution anyway.

Insted of business content info objects (0PRODH, 0PRODH1, 0PRODH2, 0PRODH3, 0PRODH4, 0PRODH5, 0PRODH6), we are using customized objects (ZPRODH, ZPRODH1, ZPRODH2, ZPRODH3, ZPRODH4, ZPRODH5, ZPRODH6).
In transfer rules the mapped is as specified below
Fields => Info Objects.
0ZPRODH1 => ZPRODH1
0ZPRODH2 => ZPRODH2
0ZPRODH3 => ZPRODH3
0ZPRODH4 => ZPRODH4
0ZPRODH5 => ZPRODH5
0ZPRODH6 => ZPRODH6
Now, when I schedule the Info Package, it is ending with an errors
"Node characteristic 0PRODH1 is not entered as hierarchy charactersitic for ZPRODH"

Sort Order as per HFM Hierarchy

Hi,
I am in a situation, where I need to generate/export a hierarchy from DRM, ensuring members are in the exact order as they are in the upstream HFM application.
Is there a way to generate a sort order, or assign the sort order property values of members after loading them to the hierarchy.
Meaning, I want to manually change the order of the members in the hierarchy, and then have the sort order property take values based on the order of the member in the hierarchy.
Can anyone tell me how i can achieve this, or even create a derived sort order property which can employ such a logic?

Go to hierarchy properties for which you want node to have sort order.
give the property value for StandardHierSort as SortOrder.
Now run the automator to change the property SortOrder for each nodes.
You can set value as 1 for nodes you want first in extract then 2,3, so on.
Instead of running automator for each node, you can also create a derived property of type sort and use that in hier level property

I want to set priority for "n" number of characteristics through Import Manager.
I know Import manager allows us to set priority to one of the following : "Highest" "High" "Normal" "Low" "Lowest". But I have a requirement to set custom priority for each of the attribute through Import manager so as to avoid manual intervention.

Only leaf nodes can be assigned at the time of record creation.
Taxonomy
Used when particular hierarchy nodes needs some extra fields.
Example: If your hierarchy is like
Cars
    - Fiat
    - Maruti
Bikes
    - Hero Honda
    - Bajaj
Now for Cars, i want to store its Price but for Bikes i am not interested in Price but I want the Colour info. Now if you create the Price and Colour as fields of the repository then for all the records whose category is Cars will have NULL value for Colour and reverse in case of Bikes. Hence the concept of Taxonomy is introduced so that you can assign the fields (known as attributes) to the Nodes of the hierarchy.

Unique ID For Node Locking an Application?

I want to restrict the computers that a client application can run on. My original idea was to refuse server access outside of a restricted set of MAC addresses, but it seems difficult to grab the MAC address in a platform neutral way. (assume DHCP evironment so IP addresses may not be stable). Does anyone know of a way to access a hardware unique ID for doing a sort of node locking?

Would the CommAPI ( http://java.sun.com/products/javacomm/ ) and a dongle help?
