Custom swatch, custom gradient?

Hello,
What I want to seems simple, but I can't figure it out.
I have several objects each of which I have a corresponding value. I want the object to be color coded according to this value on a color scale. I can only figure out how to do it with a gradient between white and red, however I would like a gradient between blue -> white -> red, and the value will be some percentage on this scale where 100% will be red and and 0% will be blue. Is this possible? I see lots of stuff on gradients but it sets up a color gradient within the object.
Any help would be awesome!
Jordan

Perhaps this will work for you
I made three squares Blue White Red like such
Then I made a blend of the three and expanded the blend with smooth color  as the Blend Option, If you do specified steps you can better limit the number of colors
After I expanded the blend I left the art selected and went to Eidt>Edit Colors>Recolor Art if you look at the top left you see the color range that is being used to make the color group.
I then made a color group using the make color group icon on the top right
This will then show up in the swatches panel after clicking OK
What you get in the swatches panel not sure how you would label the swatches as percentages

  • CS4 Custom Gradient

Has anyone else seen this? In CS4 Extended, when I create a custom gradient the dialog box OK & Cancel buttons become inactive & there is no way to get out of the dialog (and save the new gradient without saving to disk -- I just want it for this project, not saved, just to use).
Seems consistent -- don't know if it's a CS4 bug or just my system. I'd love to know if others can create custom gradients or not.

Just checked by the way & this only happens after a new gradient is created. When the dialog is first opened, before creating the new gradient, it closes just fine, but once there's an new gradient the buttons become inoperative...

  • Custom gradients that follow an object from start to finish?

    Hello,
I want to create special shapes, with custom gradients that follow the object from start to finish.
I manage to do this for a single line using an artwok pencil (see "Custom gradient" in image below), but not for a more complicated shape (see "The shape I want" in image below as an example)
Help would be very muh appreciated!
    Kind regards
    Pete

    Hello again,
I might be thick in the head, but I cant get this to work.
    1. When creating the art brush, should any special setting be made? I used the defaults
    These are my results:

  • Save a custom gradient map

I can't figure out how to save a custom gradient map using the gradient map tool(image>adjustments>gradient map).
So that I can use it on other images. Mac/CS6. I have tried countless times, but can't figure it out. What seems like it should work doesn't I can never find/load the custom gradient map I create.?

Select the Gradient tool from behind the Paint Bucket.
Click on the gradient in the Options bar to open the editor
Select any of the current presets to use as a template.
Edit to make your new preset.
Click on New and give it a name
Click on Save (if you want your gradient to load next time you open Photoshop)
Your new gradient will now be available from the drop down in the Gradient Map command.

  • Custom Gradient

    Mac OS 10.3.9, PSE 4.0
I have just spent three hours with the PSE Help learning about layers and
fills and while I've come a long way, I still cannot figure out how I create
    a custom-colored and custom-shaped gradient layer.
I have to use a regular layer, not a fill layer, right? Otherwise it
appears I can only select preset options.
Once I've created the layer and set my foreground and background colors, I
then choose a gradient mode and draw a line on the layer. Result: I get a
black/grey/white gradient. So the first question is, how do I get PSE to
    use my color choices?
Second problem: I would like to use an elliptical (not circular) radiant
gradient (cute :-). I was able to do this in a simpler application than
PSE, but I can't figure out how to do it here.
    Thanks,
    Beth

  • Custom Gradient Effect

    Hi,
    How is this effect achieved...
    http://www.kitwilkins.com/Picture2.png
On the fading white circular shape, the gradient wraps around in a circle following its path giving the illusion of a fading "tail"
    How is this done?
    Anyone?

You can achieve the same effect with a blend.
Draw two rectangles, one black, one white
Go to Object > Blend > Make blend
Draw a circle, select the blend and the circle, and choose Object > Blend > Replace Spine
Using the scissors tool, cut the circle in one place
If it doesn't look right, check the orientation in Blend options that it is Align to path

  • Custom gradient stroke

    Hello
I was trying to get a gradient stroke to a text using the Photoshop Live Effects but it seems I can only set the gradient to be black/white
I would like to know how can I chage that
Below is what I did so far
Now I would like the cradient colors to be for example red and blue or to add 3 or more color to it!
    Is it possible?

A gradient you can't change isn't very useful, is it. Odd.
Well, I managed something much more complicated, but it will allow you to create a color gradient even if you want bold text.
It's a Fireworks .png, so you can copy it and open it up. Layer 2 is the visible result; Layer 1 has copies of the components so you can see them individually.
Start with three copies of the word "Text." The green one does not have the Photoshop Live Effects gradient stroke. For the other two, one has white text and one has black text. Make sure to copy and then not move any of the text elements. Turn off their visibility for working, because you need them to stay aligned.
For the one with black text, the gradient stroke is white on top. If we use this for a mask, we can create the gradient fade where the object is white, going to transparent where the object is black. I layered this over a blue rectangle then used the text object as a mask. (Select black text object with stroke and blue rectangle, then menu Modify > Mask > Group as Mask.) This gives me a fading blue outline at the top of the text.
To make a mask for the lower part of the gradient, we need that to be white, but it's black. Take the text object with the white text and invert it with menu Filters > Adjust Color > Invert. This will create a bitmap from the vector object, but it will work just fine. I took this bitmap and used it as a mask for a red rectangle. This gives me a fading red outline at the bottom of the text.
Pretty complex, but it gets the effect on bold text as well as any other shape you might apply the filter to.
Hmm. A fading blue outline over a straight red outline would probably work too! Just thought of that.

  • Changes to appearance of repeat swatch and gradient (both with transparency applied) when .ai saved in PDF 1.3 compatibility

I need to send a complex vector print to a commercial printer who requires my .ai file to be saved as 1.3 PDF compatibility.  All the graphics display & print correctly bar two elements:
    1. A gradient with transparency applied
    2. A repeat pattern swatch with transparency applied
Both of these elements are layered between a solid colour background and a complex array of vector art.
The gradient displays as solid white when converted to 1.3 PDF.  The pattern swatch displays partly white, with some elements of the pattern repeat visible as a watermark.
    1. I have tried to rasterise these elements within the a@rt, and while they both display correctly while in .ai format, as soon as I convert to PDF the appearance changes as above.
    2. I have tried to apply the transparency to the paint buckets on the gradient slider instead of applying it to the shape with gradient fil
    3. I've fiddled with the Transparency Flattening presets, Document Raster Effect Settings, and everything I can think of in the 'Save as PDF' dialogue box
    4. I've tried to rasterise the full file with an even worse outcome (all colour information lost, appears only on grey scale with fewer elements visible)
Could this have something to do with spot colours or overprint?  Any help would be most appeciated!
    I'm using:
Illustrator CC 18.1.1 (doc colour set to CMYK)
on a Macbook Pro OSX Yosemite Version 10.10.1
    Apple Preview Version 8.0 (859)

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for taking an interest! I tried rebuilding my gradient as suggested to see whether it would make a difference, but was still having issues.  Tried to save every which way with the save as PDF options in 1.3 profile.  Finally went back into the file to unpack each layer and see what I could adjust to save the appearance.
Found this fix in my swatches palette: for some reason the swatches I was working with had converted to "Book Colour", something I never use.  I changed the dropdown back to CMYK and changed the colours from spot to process, which fixed the file    Relief after hours of searching and late nights!
    Thanks again!

  • Add "Add to Swatch" in gradient mode

Why in the gradient palette removed for either Add a swatch? Instead, the hare is a creation I have to leave to go back and add a gradient to add a swatch.
    1. Why cut off two to three additional options?
    2. Why removed last option used color?
    3. Overall, there is no possibility for the rapid use of the recent elections — concerns not only the color.

In case anyone looked, I was missing the commit.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Can  not get any color swatches into Gradient Swatch panel.

I've tried dragging, clicking dragging and only get the circle/line-thru-it.  And there is no New Gradient Swatch option anywhere that I can see.
Listen:  I've now spent over 4 hours online -- today alone! -- reading instructions that simply do not work. After 4 years of InDesign work and design changes made because I can't get two colors to simply gradient, its time for this function to work for me.

You have at least two possibilites to add gradients to your swatches:
    1. Select an Object with a gradient applied. (Take care to have the gradient part selcted in the stroke/fill part in the tool panel.) Got to the Swatch Panel and in the menu of the panel select "New Gradient Swatch…"
    or
    2. In the swatch panel menu got to "New gradient Swatch…", edit the color stoppers, add some ore remove some and click on the add or ok button.

  • Use CC Libraries Swatches in Gradients and on Text

I like the new Creative Cloud Libraries panel, and think in time it will prove itself useful. But it seems like there are a lot of use cases that haven't quite been ironed out. For example, it doesn't appear that you can directly use a color swatch from the library as a gradient stop, either by double clicking the stop or by dragging the swatch to the gradient. Likewise, if I select some characters in a text area, I cannot apply a color swatch from the Libraries panel. In both cases I'm having to create an object, assign the swatch, create a "real" color swatch from the object, and use that instead. Can I request these features in a future update to Illustrator? (Or if it's possible now, and I'm just being dense, please enlighten me!)

I have the same problem, and dragging the swatch from the Library to the document Swatch definitely does NOT work for me.
I understand why Larry thinks it should work, because that was also the first thing I tried.
I plead ignorance if there is another way, but I still believe this is the preferred logical modus operandi.

  • Is there anyway to check for duplicate swatches/patterns/gradients?

Besides looking at each one yourself.

    nope.
maybe a script could compare colors and gradients and eliminiate dups, but i doubt you can do it with patterns.

  • Modifying gradient swatches through an action no longer works?!

I'm currently using Illustrator CC 2014, with the latest update. I have a set of actions that I use to create several icons and they were working just fine until today. It wouldn't be much of a hassle to make those actions again to try and fix it, and that's what I did. But one of them doesn't seem to work no matter what I do.
The action I'm trying to recreate applies a gradient to a fill, and then sets the first swatch to black (100% opacity) and the second one to black as well(0% opacity) and then angles it -45º to make a long soft shadow. The problem is, the moment I modify the second swatch to black, nothing works anymore. Every action that tries to do something with that gradient resets it.
    For example:
    Apply gradient
Set Gradient (1st swatch is now Rick Black 100% Opacity)
Set Gradient > This is where everything goes to hell. The gradient is suddenly reset, containing 100% Opacity white to "normal black" like the default configuration.
Set Gradient (45º angle) > Resets swatches
Set Gradient (20% opacity to the whole fill) > Resets swatches again.
So in the end, this is what I have:
I also tried adding the gradient to the swatches panel, but again, as soon as the action applies the 45º angle, the swatches are reset, AGAIN.
I'm completely lost. Everything was working just fine until today. Now I can't even create a new set because this bug doesn't seem to go away.

  • Gradient Layer Issue

    Mac OS X 10.5.8; PSE 6.0
I would like to create a layer that contains a gradient that shades from a color to transparent (not white).  I can't see any way to do this since the gradient tool/color selector doesn't offer "none" as a color selection.  Reducing the transparency of the layer doesn't work either because the entire layer is affected equally.
The effect I want to achieve is to gradually darken an underlying, background layer containing an image from right to left so that the left side of the image is unaffected and the right appears darker.  How can I achieve this?
    TIA,
    Beth

    Hi,
You specify a transparency in a gradient using the Gradient Editor. Assuming you are using the gradient tool, look in the options bar for the window that displays the currently selected gradient. Double click this window. The gradient editor dialog will come up. If it's just color to transparent, you might consider using the foreground color to transparent preset. You can click the color stop; then the black color swatch to change the color if desired. You can also build your own custom gradient. Opacity stops are the top pencil like arrows...fill in % box to specify opacity for that stop. Here's a tutorial on using the Gradient Editor.

You can also get this same dialog using the gradient fill adjustment layer and gradient map adjustment layer...same with these items when selected from the menu bar.
