Custom Theme crashes Keynote

Hello,
I'm creating a new theme. It's very simple. I start with the "White" theme, delete all the master slides except the blank one, then modify the background to be a color gradient. Then I go to File > Save Theme and give it a name.
If I now open a keynote document, choose a slide and select my new theme as the theme for that slide, I get the message "An unexpected error has occurred. Please Quit and reopen Keynote." Does anyone know what the problem might be?

I am getting the same message when I try to increase the font size in a text box on a Keynote slide. It happened several times and then all the images in my keynote 09 slides disappeared. At that point I purchased a new copy of Keynote from the Apple store and that solved the problem till now- the process is beginning again..... can anyone help?

    Hello,
usually Your custom themes are saved in:

  • Unable to locate custom themes in Keynote '09

I created some custom themes that I want to delete. I have been unable to locate them on my hard drive. The directions in the Keynote '09 User Guide don't point me to the right place. I found the stock themes in Applications> iWork'09> Keynote.app> Contents> Resources> Themes, but my custom themes aren't in there. I've done a global search for the file names and for .kth files, but they don't show up. Can anyone help me locate/delete these themes (that are outdated and cluttering up my themes menu)?
    Thanks!

Thanks, Kelly! I had actually just figured it out when I started to save a new template and looked backwards up the file tree. It's all under my user ID rather than the basic "Library" folder. So thanks so much!

  • Keynote Custom Theme Background

I have created my own custom theme in Keynote on my iMac, it works fine and has a white background, so previews fine.
However when I save it to Keynote on my iPad and view it, the white areas on the background go transparent and I just see the standard grey background, plus the colours have all changes.
    Why does it do this?
Can I change the background on my iPad Keynote to white?
The image I imported as a background on my iMac Keynote has a white background already so why doesnt this show up on iPad keynote.
If anyone can offer any pointers, I'd be really grateful.
    Ness

Others may correct me, but my understanding is that Keynote masters can only have one title text box, and one body text box. Any other text placed on the master will appear as that literal text, and not as a text container.

  • How do I change the theme of a custom theme presentation in Keynote?

How do I change the theme of a custom theme presentation in Keynote?
I have a beautiful preso that my designer created. I want to use the copy in those slides with a different theme more conducive to my audience. And use only some of the slides (I know how to do that part).
    Thanks!

    merv,
A rather simple way, regardless of version, may be to:
    1) Select everything and scale down;
    2) In the Select dropdown click Object, then Text Objects, then Object>Transform>Transform Each and scale up to the original size or to a(nother) suitable one.

  • Keynote - Changing chart textures in a custom theme

I know there are a couple different textures for the charts in the regular themes. I have created a custom theme for my company and I would like to be able to change the texture on the charts. But I can't seem to figure out how to choose which texture is used.
Does anyone know how to do that?

Darin, this is covered in the Keynote User Guide (p.179 in the KN3 guide). To quote:
    To set default chart attributes:
1 In the slide organizer, create a new slide based on the master slide you are designing.
2 Place a chart on the slide canvas.
3 Select the chart and set its attributes. (For more information, see Chapter 6, “Creating Charts.”)
4 To define defaults for another chart type, copy the chart and paste it on a new slide, change the chart type, and set the chart attributes. Repeat this step for each chart type.
5 When all the charts are formatted as you wish, select each of them, one at a time, and make the new properties the default by doing one of the following:
    - To make the chart’s attributes the default for the current master, choose Format > Advanced > Define [chart] for Current Master.
    - To make the chart’s attributes the default for all the masters in the current theme, choose Format > Advanced > Define [chart] for All Masters.
    - To make the chart’s type the default for all master slides in the current theme, choose Format > Advanced > Make [chart] the Default Chart Type.
6 In the dialog that appears, specify the total number of series for which you are defining attributes.
7 Delete the charts from the slides.

  • Custom themes: How do I create & edit an auto-text box?

    Hello
Continuing my exploration of custom themes
I have now found out how to make text boxes editable (control-command-option-T, that was carefully hidden!) and am now struggling with creating and editing 'auto text' boxes (not sure what their real name is in Keynote-speak)
    1) Creating new text boxes:
Let's take a simple theme like White. One of the Masters is Title + Bullets Left. Now let's assume I want to create two text boxes with bulllets - the existing on the left and another on the right. In PowerPoint it's pretty simple: highly text box; copy; paste; move & resize as needed. Well Keynote won't let me Copy so that's out. If I create a fresh Text box, I can mimick the indent levels, bullets, font attributes, etc. (long and painful) but it still won't work because it is not a placeholder text box (fixed size) but a regular text box (size depends on content).
    I'm sure I'm missing a trick!
    2) Edit auto-text boxes
Again, take any theme, say White again; If I choose a Master with a set text placement, say Photo Vertical, there is very little I can do with it: I can change text attributes and box size, but I can't touch the number of indentation levels for example. Then again what defines a text box as been 'double click here to edit' from a regular placeholder?
Overall I think I'm missing a whole editing 'avenue' regarding masters - Anyone care to guide me?
    Thanks!

You can set a text field to be multi-line and tick off the option to scroll
long text to have it automatically wrap, but you'll have a problem with the
first partial line, since form fields can only be rectangular. Another
problem might be the lines themselves, since you'll have to use a font size
that will fit them exactly, or it will look odd. I would suggest getting
rid of those lines altogether. They are not needed when filling in the form
electronically. It's a relic from printed out forms where people had to
    hand-write their answers.

  • Custom theme bloat

I've been working on creating some custom themes for my church to use - very simple, single background image. When I "save as theme", I end up with a relatively huge file - over 20MB. There are only 6 masters, each with the same 1MB image.
When I viewed the package contents, I found that most of the bloat was due to unused images embedded by Keynote - stonemarble_barB_flathi-Layer0Image-1.tiff, etc. Looking at the index.apxl file, it looks like these are used for creating textures on charts.
I've tried removing the files and recompressing, but then get the annoying Missing File alert. Given that I'm handing these themes off to be used by less technically-savvy endusers, I'd really like to eliminate this error message. Is there an easy way to prune the index.apxl file?

once you've unzipped the xml file, you can throw away the zipped version, then use a tool like Text Wrangler (or textedit if you have to) and do a find/replace for all those images. My suggestion is to make a small jpg or png that's a solid color and is a very small file, and use find/replace to replace all the other images with this single, small image. THen toss all the old files, and place that image inside the .key package (do this from your .key before making the theme). Double check that you get no errors and then export as a theme. DOing it this way will make sure your final theme has a zipped xml file and other tweaks that you might mess up if you edit the xml after making the theme.
    hope this helps!

  • Custom theme's masters partially available

I've created a custom theme with 14 masters, but only five of them are visible in the Masters drop down in the Tool bar. Any suggestions?

Are they all visible when you choose to Show Masters in the navigator? If so, Keynote probably thinks you have TWO different themes inside your file. It's sort of smart and dumb at the same time. It's smart in that it only shows you masters that are available for the currently used theme, and dumb because you can't tell it to see ALL masters as one theme. The reason that feature is in there is if you choose tons of themes for your different slides, that drop down menu would get HUGE, so it only shows you masters in the theme that the currently selected slide is using.
Confusing to say the least. No idea how you can reset it though as I've never had this happen to me when making a custom theme.
Are you by chance just using a .key file that you customized, or did you export it as a theme file (.kth) so it shows up in your theme selector window?

  • Custom Theme: change resolution graphics problems

    Hi
What can i do to make custom themes in a way that i can change the resolution anytime later by using that pulldown menu (e.g. 1024x768 to 800x600) without having problems with the graphics. I can make single themes in the right resolution but how do i tell keynote to use the right one when i want to change resolution? Or must i use only vector graphics?
The problem by change the resolution of my custom themes is that all the graphics move somewhere and everything looks confused. When i go back to the right resolution graphics still stay confused and scaled to small or to big too????

the way to do this properly is to make a theme file for each resolution, and then instead of just using the inspector to change the size, use the theme selector to choose your same theme in the new size. This will reapply the theme properly.

  • Horrible time making customs themes and masters

I'm having just the most difficult time working with Keynote (2.0.2) and custom themes. I've create a new master slides but all kinds of problems just keep creeping in. First the bullets that I created on the master would (sometimes) be hidden on the actual slides. Then I could just expand the body content on the actual slides and the bullets would come back. If I edit things a little more then would go away.
Sometimes when I make a new slide and see the words "Double-click to edit" I would double-click but I would never edit.
Now I have a problem where the indenting for a "Body Level Three" node is further left than a "Body Level Two" node. And I can't find out how to fix this for the life of me.
    http://www.moss-pultz.com/random/keynote_master.png
I've tried to create new documents based on this theme and still, nothing works right.
I'm pulling my hair out trying to get this program to work. Any ideas what's going on?

In version 3 you can go to your menu bar, click on the view tab and go to "show master slides".
On the left side you will see the two different boxes. The masters are on the top and the regular slides are on the bottom. Click on the master slide you want to edit at the top. Once you select it you are now working on the master.
As for the third bullet, you have two choices. You can change the indentation on the master, or you cand simply highlight the bullet, pull up the inspector, go to the text tool or "T" on the inspector. After you do that select bullets. There you can change any bullet to any indentation level you desire.
I realized after typing this that you said you had version 2. Version 2 bullet alignments in the masters are a little harder to manage. You have to click on show rulers and adjust the tabs stops for the text boxes. This really takes a little tweaking when you do that. Version 3 makes life much easier as you can set the indent level and also the spacing with specific numbers under the bullet information in the text area of the inspector tool.
Seriously, if you want an easier time, they really improved text and bulleting in version 3. You will save a ton of time by upgrading. Version 3 also has a ton of other enhancements including multiple text boxes with bulleting.
    Good luck.

  • Custom theme does not show up in theme chooser

    Hi all,
I'm just trying to create a custom theme based on a presentation template I created. When I do this on my private iMac 2009 with Keynote 5.1.1 this works without any troubles and the theme shows up when selecting "New from Theme".
If I do this on my brandnew MBP (very late 2011) it won't show the theme in the theme chooser.
I looked it up, the theme file is located in the right folder.
Another strange thing that happened to me is that if I save the presentation as a theme on the desktop and open the file from there, Keynote opens a new file but with 800x600 pixels instead if the original 1920x1080 pixels and completely messes up the dimensions etc.
    I did reboot, nothing changed.
    Any ideas?
P.S.: I transferred my complete Mac from a 2009 MBP with all content and apps.

This is happening to me too. So, what can we do about this? I am trying to make a custom theme for a high profile business client and this stuation is making me look bad.

  • NW2004s: Assigning a custom theme to a web dynpro running in the portal

    The situation is as follows:
Some web-dynpros (for java) have a custom theme, a theme which is <b>not</b> the default theme of the portal or  the default theme for web-dynpros in general.
In NW2004 this worked as follows:
When starting a web-dynpro in the portal it checked if it was started with the right theme. If <b>not</b> the exit plug of the WD interface view was called with an Url of the WD application plus a parameter for the right theme.
This is the famous parameter sap-cssurl.
For that parameter there are some values possible:
    1) sap-cssurl=http://<host>:<port>/irj/portalapps/com.sap.portal.design.urdesigndata/themes/portal/mytheme
    2) sap-cssurl=http://<host>:<port>/irj/portalapps/com.sap.portal.design.portaldesigndata/themes/portal/mytheme
    3) sap-cssurl=http://<portal>:<host>/webdynpro/resources/sap.com/tcwddispwda/global/SSR/themes/mytheme
The first 2 are locations of the portal environment, the last one is a location of the WD runtime environment.
As I noticed this must be a full qualified absolute Url including host and port.
This works in NW2004 for web dynpro's running standalone <b>AND</b> in the portal.
    Now for NW2004s:
The 3 variants of the parameter sap-cssurl work for web dynpro's running standalone.
But now for web dynpro's which are integrated in the portal:
The exit-plug with an Url is not possible anymore, this leads to the runtime error:
<i>com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.WDRuntimeException: Exit-Plug must no be triggered with an URL when running in portal. Use portal navigation instead to navigate to another application!</i>
Okay, as a first workaround I tried the portal navigation,
but somehow the supplied parameter sap-cssurl has no effect.
The code for that in the on-startup plug of the WD component:
    WDPortalNavigation.navigateAbsolute(
      PCD_ID,
      WDPortalNavigationMode.SHOW_INPLACE,
      null,
      null,
      WDPortalNavigationHistoryMode.NO_HISTORY,
      null,
      null,
      "theme_set=X&" + theme,
       theme,
       false,
       true
I used there absolute portal navigation and the  parameter (sap-cssurl=...) is part of the <b>launcher parameter</b> and the <b>business parameter</b> in the call to <b>WDPortalNavigation.navigateAbsolute</b>.
But as I wrote above, this has no effect on the theme.
In the I-View the parameter "Supply portal theme" is set to <b>NO</b>, otherwise the parameter "sap-cssurl" is supplied twice (this can be seen in the poroperties of the web-page in Internet Explorer).
What I tried afterwards was setting the parameter sap-cssurl hardcoded in the "Application parameters" of the I-View. This doesn't work either.
My question is: Should this be anyway possible for a NW2004s portal?
    Did anyone successfully implement this?
    Kind regards,
                Erich Lind

    Hi Erich,
I am facing the same problem. I am on 04 s and couldnot implement the custom theme to a web dynpro running in the portal. When I run the web dynpro app as stand alone, the custom theme applies fine. But when in portal, it takes the standard theme.
Was wondering if you figured this out.
    Thanks
