I just received my new Lenovo w530 machine. I have been using it for 2 days, but windows 8 corenrs come up in middle of somethings all the time. I have been using windows 8 for some time, and i have not had this issues.
I want to check on the this form, if anyone has gone through this exercise, and what is your experience and what process have you used.
I have already created bootable windows 8 USB Drive.
Thank you in advance.

Welcome to Lenovo Community! sompat
If you want to do a clean install of Windows 8. You need a couple of things:
- Windows 8 bootable DVD / USB drive
- Hardware driver setup files from Support Webpage
One thing before you start, test your Windows 8 USB drive to see if it boots up at UEFI mode. It is recommended to have a backup or a set of recovery disc before you continue just in case anything goes wrong.

  • Boot Camp Windows install format to NTFS not working.

    As a preface I am new to Apple and more complex computer issues in general. With that said I have spent several hours trying to get Windows 8.1 installed from the DVD media to a partition created using Boot Camp Assistant. I have tried several suggestions and looked through many threads, blogs and articles and none seem to have the correct answer. Below are the steps that I have followed and the issue that I run into every time.
    Open Boot Camp Assistant
         Select Download the latest Windows support software from Apple
         Select Install Windows 7 or later version
         Download support software to USB Drive (leave connected)
         Create a Partition (200GB)
    Hold Option on Reboot and Select Windows
    Begin the Windows install process
    Select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)
    Installation asks: Where do you want to install Windows?
    Select Drive 0 partition 4: BOOTCAMP
         Error Message Details:
              Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.
              Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS.
    Solution I found from many threads is that I need to "Format" the partition. To do so I:
         Select Drive 0 Partition 4: BOOTCAMP
         Select Format
         Select Drive 0 Partition 4 (No longer titled as BOOTCAMP after the reformat)
              Error Message Details:
                   Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.
    I cant seem to find a solution to this. Any help would be appreciated. I have tried removing all other connected drives and devices, and recreating the partition several times with no luck.
    Machine Info:
    OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
    Mac (27-inch, Late 2013)
    Processor: 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    I also have VMware Fusion installed on the machine and already used the Windows installation media to create a virtual machine. Is it possible to transfer my virtual machine to a Boot Camp partition? I did a little research and it looks as though thats not possible (at least not easily) but I figured I'd ask anyway.

    Sorry for the delayed response. I'm still working to get a solution so any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
    The installation media I purchased is for windows 8.1. Is that the issue? Do I need to install 8 not 8.1?

  • Custom Windows 8.1 .WIM doesn't work via WDS, works OK manually

    Hello,
    I have a very peculiar situation; I've created a custom Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 image, but when I deploy it using Windows Deployment Services on Windows Server 2012 R2, using the Windows 8.1 Enterprise x86 boot.wim as the Windows Deployment
    Services boot image, it deploys successfully, but malfunctions;
    it doesn't activate [against our KMS server]
    when a new user logs on, the process stalls; if you logoff then logon, Microsoft Office gives you a 1603 error.
    File Explorer [I think] doesn't work (apologies for vagueness; I absolutely
    wasn't expecting this and was somewhat floored by the symptoms)
    HOWEVER, if I manually deploy the SAME .WIM image, copy in the
    SAME unattend.xml, and manually replace %MACHINEDOMAIN% and %MACHINENAME% with the right values, it works fine.
    HOWEVER, I've already verified that Windows Deployment Services is working perfectly well because I've added the Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 install.wim as an install image, and used the unattend.xml to automate it.  In other words, with the
    install.wim from the .ISO, everything is working fine, but with a custom image, it malfunctions.
    I don't know why it's malfunctioning; nothing looking like a root cause appears in any event logs. I have injected some drivers into my custom image, but these are for relatively obscure devices such as scanners and smart card readers, which
    aren't even on the computer I'm testing this on.  The test computer would benefit from
    chipset, video and network drivers, but the inbox ones work OK.  In any event, they work fine when I manually deploy.
    Have more-or-less replicated this on test machines that are virtual, desktop and laptop, so I have no reason to believe the target device is a factor.
    For now, Windows Deployment Services doesn't have a client unattend file.
    This is a very peculiar problem. My existing, production environment has
    Windows 7 Enterprise in a custom image
    Windows Server 2008 R2
    Windows Deployment Services
    working perfectly, and was looking to maintain the same approach, but simply update it.
    Would welcome your ideas.
    Kind regards,
    Anwar

    Hi,
    For this issue,I think it is related to the custom image.
    I suggest we don't add any drivers to the custom image to test it.
    Meanwhile,I  suggest you upload following logs here for further research. SkyDrive or similar network sharing would be better to use to share your files.

  • Find Windows Install Date

    Hello,

  • Boot Camp won't recognize Windows install CD

    I am trying to install Windows XP on my MacBook Pro so I can use some software that only runs on older versions of Windows. When I insert the Windows install disk, it spins, makes some shuddering noises, and ejects the disk. The disk doesn't show up in Finder either. This seems to be the exact same problem a user had in a previous thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2562503?start=0&tstart=0), but I don't know if they came up with a solution in the end (also, I'm not quite sure I even understood their suggested solutions). My disk drive has no problem with other CDs (e.g. music CDs), and it doesn't look like the install disk is at all scratched or dirty.
    More details:
    I am using Boot Camp Assistant version 3.0.4 of a MacBook Pro on a 2011 MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.8. The version of Windows that I am trying to install is a 2009 CD of a full version Windows XP Pro with SP3, which the vendor (http://www.softwarespeedy.com/microsoft-windows-xp-pro-with-sp3/)
    described as "a full version on all brands of systems, Macs or custom butil systems. Purchase includes disk, UPK, and certificate of authenticity license which will validate with Microsoft and activate."
    Please help!
    Lisa

    I just tried using Virtual Box, but I am having trouble with that too. Virtual Box seemed to install fine, but I can't figure out how to install Windows on that since my CD drive still spits out my Windows installation disk. When I click Start in Virtual Box, it looks for and doesn't find a "bootable medium." I am assuming this is supposed to be my Windows XP installation disk, but I still have the problem that my computer doesn't recognize it.

  • BootCamp cannot detect custom WinXP install disc after entering key

    I have a friend who is attempting to install Windows XP through Boot Camp and I am helping him. We BTed a custom Windows XP Professional SP2 installation ISO and we burned it into a CD. It is perfectly bootable when run on a PC, and it would autorun and so on. It is also perfectly detectable on his new MacBook as a WinXP install disc. But when BootCamp attempts to look for the disc's existence, it fails.
    Now he got past every stage in BootCamp, from partition (32GB) to entering the license key. What could possibly be the problem? May I stress that although the disc is custom, it contains everything enough to have enabled me to reinstall my old PC and install a VMWare installation before.
    Thanks if anyone could help.

    Hi, hold alt key at bootup, or CMD+r keys at bootup.

  • Regarding Server object Model in Custom Windows service

    Hi,
    I am writing a custom windows service to update the Sharepoint 2013 list every morning. But when i am try to create a SPSite object by passing the SITE URL it is throwing the below error.
    Code :
    using(SPSite site = new SPSite(SITE_URL))
    Error :
    "The Web application at "" could not be found. Verify that you have typed the URL correctly. If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application."
    Even though the SITE URL is correct. It working while browsing in explorer.
    Not sure why it is happening.
    Thanks.
    Akhilesh Rao

    Hi Akhilesh,
    Please try to add yourself to the WSS_ADMIN_WPG group on the server.
    Or here are the most common reasons this error can occur:
    1.The code is executed on a different machine - The SharePoint object model (except the Client API) requires to be run on the SharePoint server itself. It is not possible to run the application on a server which is not within the same SharePoint farm the
    code is trying to access.
    2.Insufficient Rights on the site collection - The code is executed in context of an account which does not have read permission on the site collection
    3.Incorrect Url being used - Verify that the site works correct in a browser and double check that the server is correct registered in the AAM settings
    4.Incorrect bitness - The SharePoint object model needs to be executed with the same bitness as the operating system. That means you cannot use the SharePoint object model in a 32-bit application if the Operating System and SharePoint are installed as 64-bit
    version. Ensure to compile the project using the correct bitness (64-bit on a 64-bit machine vs. 32-bit on a 32-bit machine)
    5.Incorrect .NET framework version -  Ensure that the project is configured to use .NET 3.5 for SharePoint 2010 and below and .NET 4.0 for SharePoint 2013

  • 1.30 BIOS Screwed Up Windows Install

    I'm the owner of a W520 (system specs at the bottom). I finally decided to jump on the BIOS 1.30 train amid news of better power management and forsake my 1.16 BIOS that allowed me to use TurboBoost on battery. After I plugged in my laptop and finished with the BIOS Update Utility from Lenovo's website, the computer rebooted and the message about a chip being flashed was displayed in the lower-left (100% fan speed and all). I was at work at the time and was called away by a customer. When I got back, the power was on and the fans were at normal levels, but the screen was entirely black except for a slowly blinking underscore in the top-left corner. The hard drive activity light blinks extremely faintly, rapidly, and at a consistent pace. I let this be for about 20-25 minutes to be sure it wasn't part of the BIOS flashing process and then decided to troubleshoot. This activity persists every reboot.
    Here is what I've done so far:
    -Checked BIOS for version (displayed as ver. 1.30 w/ ECP at ver. 1.17)
    -Booted into Windows PE and ran MbrFix's "restoreMBR" command on the affected drive
    Tomorrow is my one day off a week and I'd like to have at least some of it for leisure, which is why I'm coming to you for help. Has anyone seen this before? Suggestions would be very helpful! Right now I'm wondering whether I should A) Format a flash drive and put my Windows install back on so I can do a Startup Repair or B) Investigate restoring/replacing the MBR or C) Run some kind of hard drive diagnostic or D) Replace the CMOS/Remove Battery/Invoke voodoo magic

    Here are the unsuccessful things I've done so far:
    -Checked BIOS for version (displayed as ver. 1.30 w/ ECP at ver. 1.17)
    -Booted into Windows PE and ran MbrFix's "restoreMBR" command on the affected drive
    -Tried pointing Windows repair image running off my USB drive to the drive controller (RST) files, iaStor.inf and iaAHCI.inf. It thinks the files are unrelated to my system hardware.
    -From cmd prompt, bootrec.exe/ScanOS sees my installationon the D: drive. Startup Repair claims it has successfully repaired the installation, but reboot produces same problem.
    -Built a custom Windows 7 image using RT7 Lite integrating iaStor.inf and iaAHCI.inf into the Drivers section and repeated last step.
    -Ran the familiar bootrec.exe /fixmbr then /fixboot then /rebuildBCD commands. They failed, giving the message "the requested system device cannot be found".
    -Manually marked partition 1 active on my system drive. Startup Repair failed again and gives me the following error:
    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
    Problem Sig 1: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Sig 2: 6.1.7600.16385

    -I finally got sick of troubleshooting and restored my C drive from a backup I ran a few days ago via my Macrium Reflect rescue ISO. Sadly, I'm still greeted by the black screen and continuously flickering disk activity LED. Booting to the hard disk from inside a multiboot menu (Xboot) reveals the message: "Error Loading OS". What should I do now?!

  • What is the best way to make a custom arch install cd?

    Hello, before I start I should mention that I have been reading about various tools and looking at wiki articles.  But I have had some trouble getting started.
    What I would like is an install cd that installs the packages I choose.  I'd like this to be either automatic, or allow me to select the packages I want (which are presumably on the cd), just like in the normal way of installing arch perhaps, maybe.
    I'd just like a way of installing arch, the way it is set up now, with minimal hassle, no internet access, just pop the cd in and out comes archlinux with a nice desktop environment so I can give it to my mum without having to travel hundreds of miles to install it for her.
    "just pop the cd in and out comes archlinux with a nice desktop environment" -Ahahahahahaha, I hear you react.  Well, you know, at least I would like it to be no MORE difficult than the standard install procedure.
    For example, is there no way I can just download the .pkg.tar.gz files I want, add 'em to the fracking archlinux iso I download from here, meddle about with a config file so pacman knows where to find the additional pkg.tar.gzips, and then run a script afterwards to copy a few configuration files to the relevant locations?  No?  Won't work?
    At least, I have not discovered a way to do this yet.  Please can someone get me started?
    Should I maybe start HERE?
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Qui … stallation
    It says it "may contain old, confusing and wrong information" -how unusual...
    Larch looks pretty good, will this do what I want?
    I actually think larch is definitely the answer.  I'm gonna mark it solved.  Even though I will probably have some trouble with it.  Sorry for asking this question for the hundredth time, but, well, the forums were down yesterday (the day I was trying to do this, obviously).
    Maybe I'll leave it unsolved until I get specific errors...

    But that isn't what I'm trying to do.  I want to learn how to build an install disc, too.  It takes me a long time to get arch up and running.  I would like to know how to automate it so that I end up with my own personal humble distribution.
    I realize there are many alternatives to doing what I am trying to do. But there are a hundred reasons I can think of why a custom archlinux install cd made by me that goes "do you want to install y/n" and then you press y and it formats the disk, shoves the stuff on and then it works would be the best option.
    This assumes, of course, that my mum can plug in the computer, monitor, mouse, keyboard and speakers, insert the disc and press y, all of which are long shots.
    Anyway, I'm making some progress with larch now.  I can roughly see how it's going to work, it's pretty straightforward, so it would seem.
    Thanks!
    Yeah I see your point. I like archiso because he has a barebone option there, and you can build it the way you like it from there. I just had trouble getting Arch to run for me, so his iso was just easier as I am very unlearned in linux, and at 63 I dont have a lot of time, or energy to learn what it seems everyone but me knows. I still have to work to earn a living, and with a limited education I may be more dense than alot of the younger folks on here, so this just made it a little easier for me. Good luck with it, I hope you get what your after.
    Maybe have a look at ISOMaster too, it seems simple enough to use.

  • How can i make the volume controller on a pavillion dv4 work after a clean windows install?

    Hello!
    Recently I performed a clean windows 7 install from a windows install disk I previously owned, the problem is that this disk didn't intalled the drivers and programs specific for this computer. What I want to know is which driver or program I need to install to make the volume controller on my computer to work again? The problem is that the volume bar that previously appeared on the screen and the "bing" sound indicating the volume level doesn't appear or sound now.
    All other things seem to work fine, this is the only problem so far.
    Thanks!

  • Custom window not displaying it's custom template

    I have created a custom window class named CrackenWindow, and a custom template in the Generic.xaml resource dictionary.
    After I create a new window, which inherits CrackenWindow, nothing happens. The visual remains the same and I cannot use CrackenWindow's extra functionality. If someone has the time, please review what I'm doing wrong. I have uploaded the code to https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=fa5f36f7b4d34c12%21106.
    Thank you for your time,
    suzi9spal

    I was kind of put off by seeing a collection of stuff there when I took a quick look on onedrive.
    Are you sure you want this thing to be a custom control rather than just a window that has a template?
    Custom controls ought to be the choice of last resort.
    If you explain what you're trying to do, maybe I/we can suggest an alternative route.
    Like what extra functionality?
    You can add eventhandlers, dependencyproperties and whatnot in a base class.
    For example:
    public class BaseFancyWindow : Window
    public BaseFancyWindow()
    CloseCommand = new RelayCommand(CloseExecute);
    public RelayCommand CloseCommand { get; set; }
    private void CloseExecute()
    this.Close();
    and use that
    <local:BaseFancyWindow x:Class="wpf_WindowChrome.Window6"
    xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
    xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"
    xmlns:local="clr-namespace:wpf_WindowChrome"
    Title="Finished Fancy Window" Height="300" Width="300"
    Style="{StaticResource FinishedWindow}"
    >
    <Grid>
    <TextBlock Text="This is some content in the window"/>
    </Grid>
    </local:BaseFancyWindow>
    And I have a template which is just in a resource dictionary which makes that window look
    Hope that helps.

  • Problems with Windows install and erasing Boot camp partition.

    I recently decided I'd try running a copy of XP on my Macbook, the only reason being that the software for my OU work is only available on Windows. I used Boot camp assistant to partition my hard drive which went smoothly. When I tried to install Windows, I get to the Windows install screen, and it says "Press enter to begin installation". Unfortunately, my keyboard doesn't seem to work, so obviously I can't begin the installation. I've tried using my old Apple USD keyboard, but it didn't make any difference. I thought I'd try the whole process from scratch, but found I can't erase the original partition. I've read that you should use Boot camp assistant again, but when I press the continue key, I get the message:
    "The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows."
    Does anybody know a way of sorting either of these problems out? Much appreciated.

    I've been doing a bit more reading into the problem. I think the keyboard problem's because I'm not using the SP2 version on XP. So hopefully once I get a copy, I should be able to sort it. But I still can't seem to use BCA to erase the partition.

    Do any of you have any ideas as to what might be the problem.

    Hi David,
         Thanks for getting back to me.  One question, Do I need to install CMS seperately or the does
         the BusinessObjects installs it?
         When I did the BusinessObjects install it installed the Microsoft SQL server 2008 Express and created an
         SQL Server Instance named BOE140.  I checked with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (which I downloaded from Microsoft) and saw that no tables were created.
         Regarding the message
         "(.\crypto.cpp:199). (FALSE : digest exception: The FIPS140 shared library could not be found (10027))."
         listed in the log file above,  what is my system missing.
         Looks like CMS is not getting installed.
         I am doing the install on a VMware Windows 2008 system with 8 GB ram and 50 GB file space.
         Are there any special requirements of configuration on the Windows system?
         Thanks for your help,
         Arvind

  • I am unable to select the correct paper size when printing photo's in iPhoto 11. When I select the paper size in the custom window for 4x6 prints the prints only appear on an 8 1/2x11 page. My Mac is a year old iMac running 10.8.2.

    I am unable to print 4x6 photo's using iPhoto 11. When I do they only print out on lettter size paper even though I enter 4x6 in the custom window in the print size menu. My older Snow Leopard system using iPhoto 9 the paper size window offered a 4x6 paper size which worked well.

    Selecting paper size in the first sreen tellis iPhoto what papery you are going to use - it does not tell the printer what paper to use - printer specific options on on the last (second or third if you customize the print) screen where you tell the print any specifics like paper source (typically printers need to you tell them where a specific paper is loaded - they do not really know the sizes in each paper tray)

  • How do you get a topic to open in a custom window when accessed from the index?

    I right click on an index key word and open Properties. There is only one topic associated with this key word. I click on the Advanced tab, select the custom window that I created. Click OK, compile, etc.
    When I try to access this topic from the index, it still opens in the default pane. When I access it from the TOC, it opens in the custom window. How can I get the topic to open in the custom window from the index?
    Thanks!
    Sue

    Hello,
    The link might not work in Preview (When the option to open link in new tab is checked) however it will work if you do a File>Preview page/site in Browser.
    Muse Preview has only one tab and cannot open another tab/window which is why this functionality does not work in Muse Preview. but works in preview in Browser and in published site.
    Regards,
    Sachin
