Customer Equipment for Metro Ethernet Link

Hi All
It has been some time since I utilised Cisco network kit to provide private circuit point to point connectivity and I wonder if someone could give me a little guidence.
The customer is shortly to implement a new 100Mb Metro Ethernet link to connect two of their branches. They initially intend to use the link for data only traffic but eventually will want to route VOIP traffic across the link so bandwidth management and QoS will be essential components. It is unlikely that further links will be added to this link so built in expansion of the chosen routers may not be required.
Budget will be an issue on this so I would appreciate any advice or recomendations.
Thanks
J.

Hello James,
I think it would be better to get in touch with your Cisco Account Team as this question cannot be answered on a forum post.
Thanks,
Karim

  • QoS on metro ethernet links

    We recently got a metro ethernet link (45Mbps) between 2 of our offices.
    Currently we do not have any QoS services from the provider on this link.
    I want to implement QoS over this link. Should i treat this as a normal P2P link and do the QoS or should i also need to ask the SP to do some sort of QoS in their MEN.
    Does it really matter to have the SP do QoS as well
    Note:- I will be using the link purely as a L3 P2P link
    Thanks in advance
    Narayan

    You would need the QOS on the MAN connect as well. Even though you are running a L3 P2P link you are traversing multiple L2 hops.
    And where there may be contention by others traffic contending for the resources.
    I believe in most cases your SP's 4 to 5 Classes would be good enough. Still you may want to understand his classes and also may want to negotiate the SLA terms.
    Once this is taken care you can simply ask him to trust the incoming DSCP on the attachment circuit at his UPE.
    You may also have to configure incoming DSCP trust on your Metro-CPE link which connects to you internal core routers.

  • Security for Metro Ethernet over Fiber

  • Metro ethernet configuration

    Months agao I had a 10MB metro ethernet link installed between two of my locations within 3 miles of each other. The link is fiber with a conversion module to copper, 10MB ethernet.
    I have the link on one end coming into a fastether port on a cisco 2620 router and the other end on a fastether cisco 3745.
    My routing the man like a frame link, each location is on a seperate subnet.
    I have not configured either end for IPsec, tunnel, etc.
    I have had the line checked by the ISP, but constantly received interface resets,output errors and excessive collisons.
    I feel I'm missing something from the configuration.
    I have verified my equipment is fine, both fastethers have been changed so my equipment is good.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    It is related to send a busty traffic to you Ethernet interface and check the duplex and speed for both ends (It should be match).Check any viruses updated from the local Computers. Normally collision will happen when an Ethernet or transceiver cable is too long or when there are more than two repeaters between stations. So if the error is more then automatically the interface is resets. I hope the below link provide you more information.

  • LMS Metro ethernet monitoring

    Hi,
    I'm pretty new with CiscoWorks LMS and need some advices. I need to find a way to monitor metro ethernet links between devices in my customer's network (through DFM and RME maybe). I've been searching through documentation but haven't found anything helpful. My idea was to monitor syslog traps regarding EIGRP and OSPF routing protocols but as far as I can see LMS doesn't have support for this, it supports just 27 different traps. Is there a way to customize LMS so it can react on traps that are interesting for me? To put it shortly - can I monitor routing protocols (maybe through gathering syslog messages and then alerting upon them)?
    Btw, LMS is version 3.2.
    Any advice is appreciated!
    Regards, Omar

    Hi,
    thanks for the advice. I'd like to be able to differentiate alarms between locations in my network. I'm attaching a drawing which presents my network. There are 2 ME links from different providers between bigger locations and edge locations. When OSPF neighborship is lost between router A and router B, meaning ME link x is down, customer would like to receive a message saying 'ME link between location A and location B is down'. When neighborship is up again, customer would like to receive a message saying 'ME link between  location A and location B is up'. In my opinion, the only way to do this is by making as many Automated actions as I have locations multiplied by 4 (2 ME links - for each set and clear events). Please correct me if I'm wrong. Do you maybe have an alternative solution (maybe to differentiate between IP addresses and locations on the application that would collect LMS emails, URL or script results)?
    Regards

  • Best way to detect failure in Metro ethernet networks

    Hello ,
    I am working for a well known provider and I am currently migrating one of my client from Frame-relay to Metro-ethernet link .
    I am actually looking for advices on what sort of mechanism to implement to detect a failure in the ME parth .
    As you probably know , failure on one of the links might cause the CE-SWITCH-PE interfaces to stay up/up and the network will not neceseraliy start converging .
    So far I have implemented BFD along with IP SLA route tracking , I am happy with BFD but the IP SLA is acting "weird" .
    - IP SLA ICMP tracking rely on ICMP packets and was too sensitive to packets lost
    - We switched to ip route sla tracking but I am still unsure about the best way to use or implement this .
    Is there some sort of best practices available somewhere for this ?
    thanks ¨
    T

    Hello Thomas,
    From what i have seen BFD is best bet as it allows to relax the L3 protocols timers ( BGP / any other protocol used between CE- PE ). Another option is to have gre tunnel between the PE - CE link and track this tunnel interface.

    Shreeram

  • 3750 Metro ethernet switch

    Folks,
    I have 6500's at the core and want to use the 3750 at the PE. My question is the following:
    1) 3750 would do Q-IN-Q.
    2) Once the packet reaches the 6500(sup 720) running MPLS. What happens to the frame. Do i use xconnect to transfer the frame to the appropriate PE?
    Just confussed about how does the PE use the Q-IN-Q information to direct it to the appropriate PE?
    Sample config would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Metro Ethernet in RAIL Transportation (MRTS) applications

    Dear Sir,
    I have a query related to Metro Ethernet technology.
    We are into TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS. We are coming up with a MRTS Project in Mumbai , India. We are at a planning stage at the moment. As per our experience, companies in RAIL MRTS Applications are using SDH technology (MUX and access multiplexers).
    Could you please suggest , should we go for METRO ETHERNET of SDH Technology.
    Are there any players/ any Metro Projects who have implemented Metro Ethernet ( instead of SDH).

    Hi Pankaj
    What kinda applications you are going to use and what kinda bandwidth requirement you have in place ?
    Also do revert back the number of locations and a bit more onto your topology which mite help to get back with our suggestions..

  • Switch vs. Router for Metro-E Customer Premise Solution

    What is the best customer premise solution for Metro-E connection? I am geting conflicting recommendations - If you have over 40 MAC addressess, use a router; less than 40, use a switch?

    I think it should be more feature driven. i.e. basic connectivity then simple switches - policy control etc then use a router.

  • Automatic updating for customer equipment card

    Hi!
    I am using SAP 8.8 PL12.  How can I set the Customer Equipment Card to update automatically once there is changes on the DR or AR?

    For Example: I have created a DR and cancelled it, I want my CEC to be updated based on this. Or if I change I cancelled the Invoice connected to it then created a new one, I want it to reflect on the CEC.
    Is there a way to do that?

    SharepointLearner

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to custom action for context menu in "Site Content and Structure" in SharePoint 2010.
    In "SiteManager.aspx", SharePoint use MenuItemTemplate class which represent a control that creates an item in a drop-down menu.
    For example, to create or delete the ECB menu for a list item in
    "Site Content and Structure", we can follow the steps below:
    To add the “My Like” menu, we can add the code below:
    <SharePoint:MenuItemTemplate
    UseShortId=false
    id="OLListItemLike"
    runat="server"
    Text="My Like"
    ImageUrl="/_layouts/images/DelItem.gif"
    ClientOnClickNavigateUrl="https://www.google.com.hk/"
    />
    To remove the “Delete” menu, we can comment the code below:
    <SharePoint:MenuItemTemplate
    UseShortId=false
    id="OLListItemDelete"
    runat="server"
    Text="<%$Resources:cms,SmtDelete%>"
    ImageUrl="/_layouts/images/DelItem.gif"
    ClientOnClickScript="%SmtObjectDeleteScript%"
    />
    The result is as below:
    More information:
    MenuItemTemplate Class (Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls)
    MenuItemTemplate.ClientOnClickScript property (Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls)

    As Peter wrote, Metro Ethernet is a vast topic.  However, from a non-provider perspective, the idea is to allow interconnecting widely physically separated (your) site networks just about as simply and similar to connecting your LAN together at one of your sites.  I.e. you just connect different (your) site devices with an Ethernet connection, and you use that connection pretty much like you would any other Ethernet link between your devices.
    From a carrier or MAN provider perspective, running a widely distributed, multiple customer Metro Ethernet (or a carrier Ethernet) network, you'll want some features not found in (as you say) "normal" Ethernet equipment.
    What's different about Metro Ethernet switches is they generally offer features not found in "normal" Ethernet switches.  Again, from a non-provider perspective, you often only need/desire a few additional features (and for that reason, it's not uncommon for non-providers to use "normal" Ethernet switches with Metro E - I've also seen Metro E switches used with "ordinary" LAN Ethernet networks).  From a provider's (carrier's) perceptive, you'll really want more features.  Because of these two perspectives, you'll often find Metro Ethernet switches marketed to non-providers, and Carrier Grade Ethernet switches marketed to the MAN Ethernet providers.
